I have to say, this is definitely a nice go to for an inexpensive casual date night. They gave a Pho Friday with $5 small bowls (win!) all night and a series of apps on happy hour until 7pm. Beers are also $5 until 7. They were slightly less on their game last night (they forgot to give us basil and sprouts) but otherwise it was an enjoyable time. I order lunch thru Uber eats here to my job about once a week. I am never disappointed. I love soup but Pho is my absolute favorite. The chicken broth here is so flavorful and not full of grease like some I have had. Some restaurants are great in person but not as a to go order but this place is consistently great! I get chicken pho or pho ga every time with broccoli and carrots and add extra bean sprouts. They give you the hoisin sauce and sriracha mixed so if you want them separate make sure to ask for extra of either one. read more

This hearty delight definitely hit the spot last night! They have a versatile menu bursting with flavorful descriptions. My only concern was the tofu, as a vegan of many years I smelled egg in the TOFU (I suspect they used in the batter to fry the tofu) so I did not eat it. I am starting to become too trusting but make sure to ASK IF THE FRIED TOFU IS 100% VEGAN. My friend did not enjoy the watered down mango "smoothie" which supposedly contained condensed milk. 3 stars as credit due to friendly and attentive staffs, and cleanliness. I was excited to try a 4 solid star Vietnamese restaurant but my soul was crushed when all 3 rice dishes were served with old rice which is extremely hydrated being in the cooker too long and already turned yellow in some part. I politely pointed it out and the staff did admit that rice was "probably" old and offered vermicelli but we said it was alright as we already finished. Grilled pork that came with 2 of our dishes was left too long on the grill so the pieces, although cut thin, were tough to chew. Flavor was nothing to write home about either. It was, to me, missing a deep note that would make them stand out in a different class. And I am not referring to the fish sauce. Perhaps a little star anise or lemon grass and a touch of tamarind? Pho was strange. First time for me using the word "strange" for a food review. Again, broth was nothing to write home about and what strange about it was the green beef in pho bowl. We didn't eat any of the meat. The lotus salad deserves 4 stars. Although, if they scale back on the citrus dressing, it will get 5 stars from me. The proportion of basil to carrot to lotus stems was perfect and the herb was evenly distributed with different notes of flavor in this salad. A party in my mouth! Spring rolls were ok. Really, you can't screw up a good spring roll so a couple of things I will mention here is they could use a thinner kind of rice wrapper (I.e. the kind from Vietnam and has green bamboo trees on the packaging) The kind that was served to us was very thick and unexpectedly chewy. Peanut hoisin sauce ratio is wrong. It can use more peanut butter and less hoisin or whatever that makes it so unnecessarily salty. Some sautéed scallions on top in the sauce will kick it up a notch. Was excited to try Banh Hoi but it was nothing special. Same grilled pork suffering the same fate being left on the grill too long. Pork was supposed to be the star of this dish but It also has bland flavor and I wish it was marinated with some lemongrass at the very least. It does not have to be fully frontal but can offer a very nice back note. Banh Mi was way overpriced. I come from a big metropolis with good Vietnamese food and have never paid more than $6 a pop. Banh mi here in DC area costs $12 and it was a crime because the cold cut was mediocre. The meat was cut very thickly and the texture was very "hammy" in some part which is not traditionally how the cold cut is made. Pig ear parts were too crunchy borderline hard and it is tough to chew and not so much pleasant. I am a texture person and I would not have the cold cut banh mi again here. Stir fried vegetable with meat and rice is, once more, not something you mention to your friends as a recommendation. Especially with that old cooked rice. If I crave pho next time, Pho Anh Dao is on my hit list. As far as good traditional Vietnamese food here in DC, I am still on the hunt this side of the river. If I just want average traditional Vietnamese dish, I guess I could give it a second try hoping it would change my mind. read more

Bad service / decent food. Recently I ate there for the first time. I thought it was fine, apart from the service, which started with a long wait at the host's stand and long intervals between seeing the waiter again, who triples as the host and server. Today I went in and like before, there were some people, but fewer than the first time. Nonetheless, I stood for at least five minutes at the host's stand waiting for the man at the back to notice me. He was busy making some drinks. OK. But did he really not see me from his peripheral vision--at all? I doubt it. I stood silently until we made eye contact. To my surprise, this changed nothing; he continued about his business as if he hadn't seen me. Totally oblivious. I turned around and left. Other places are more deserving. My instinct says he's a decent person with unpolished manners, in a predicament because management makes him host / wait / serve, which is very unusual (no support at all), so in the end it reflects upon the owners. Pho is inherently a very simple dish, which adds to it's deliciousness. There are three main elements which include a slow simmer (over hours) broth, al dente rice noodles, and tender cuts of meat. Pho 14 has indubitably nailed every element on the head. This is by far the best pho money can buy in DC. In addition to the marvelous pho, the Park Rd NW location offers a crunchy fresh spring roll, which is the first I've ever seen out of the dozens of Vietnamese restaurants I've frequented. Essentially, it is a fresh spring roll, egg roll, and tender grilled meat all in one. Parking can be a bit of a headache, but Pho 14 also delivers. I often opt for delivery because the pho comes so meticulously packaged and tastes just as good as ordering it from the restaurant. read more

The quality of the food we've had here has always been on the upper end, the pho is pretty standard with good broth and the banh mi has always been great. Came on a Tuesday and their deals included half priced draft beer and a $5 Bun Bowl of their choosing - today it was the tofu two ways. The shredded tofu was good enough, but the fried tofu lacked flavor. All in all the bun had a good balance of noodles and refreshing vegetables. The dipping sauce is always a favorite and was quite sweet. We also ordered the lotus root salad - it was very flavorful with fresh basil, shrimp, and pork. My only reservation is the price - I think the salad could be less than the designated $13. read more

We're just visiting DC and staying in Columbia Heights. Found this little gem off of Park and 14th. Not only is it cute and clean, the vermicelli bowl was delicious! Ordered takeout from Pho 14 because I heard good things and was craving warm broth. As a meatball lover, I opted for the "Create Your Pho-Premium Toppings" with Ve Done (skirt flank), bo vien (meat balls), sach and gau (briskets). I'm not a pho expert by any means, but I was proud of myself for this combination of toppings, resulting in an insanely delicious bowl on a chilly December day. If you can, support your restaurants these days, especially as the winter months roll around. Pho 14 definitely gets my seal of approval. read more

This is the first phõ place I've ever visited that lists the spongy beef meatballs as "premium" toppings. They offer 3 different stock types (beef, chicken, veggie) and up to 4 different topping combinations including broccoli, carrots, and mushrooms. They give less accoutrements than other locations but they have a rather extensive beer list! The broth was flavorful but not as rich as Pho 75. read more

Imagine this: it's the fourth date. conversation is easy, you're used to the cadence of their speech pattern. You've done the movie, the fancy dinner, the day at the zoo, and you've met up in the evening to go out for drinks. The restaurant is cozy, well decorated, with unassuming decorations and the chairs you settle into are worn from the many patrons before you. Your date points out the various old accolades littering the wall behind you and briefly, you envision the robust hustling of Pho 14 in it's glory days, but then you return to the mildly dim and calm reality of the present. You both order pho and it arrives quickly, and you eat and chat, with the occasional lull to slurp some noodles. You reach for a lime and squeeze! but some of the juice gets on your shirt. You both giggle and share a smile. The food is standard fare, nothing surprising or special, but filling and hot. Another terrific light dinner at our favorite neighborhood Vietnamese spot! Last week, my partner and I went to Pho 14 around happy hour. They have pretty good specials on appetizers and a few dishes so I opted for a vermicelli bowl with pork egg rolls and she got a banh mi sandwich with meat. We also got two summer rolls as an appetizer. Everything was fresh and tasty. Such a great value and dinner only cost about $20 ($25 with tip). The service was also good. It pains me to drop stars for this former old haunt of mine. I've lived in the neighborhood for years and used to come here all the time for the fresh vermicelli (bun) noodle bowls topped with perfectly grilled pork or chicken and a host of cucumber, fried shallots, carrots, and a light pickled vinaigrette. But on my last visit, it was pretty stuffy and dim inside the place, the noodle bowls were just a tad sloppy (my bowl had the inner tube from the spiralized cucumber) with overfried spring rolls that otherwise lacked flavor, beef that was to tough I couldn't actually chew through it, unfresh shrimp, and grilled pork that was passable, but nothing like the deliciousness that used to top the bowls. The summer rolls were reasonably fresh but had really dry pork inside and really needed the sauce to make them edible. My friends swear that the Adams Morgan Columbia Road location is worlds above this one and I'm beginning to think they're right. read more

I am Vietnamese born and raised, so let me tell you that Pho 14 is mediocre and you should cross the street for Vietnamese food at Vietnam Chelsea. I only went on Pho 14 on Monday night because Chelsea was closed. Upon walking in, I had to wait an extra 10 mins because the staff was slow to arrange for new guests even though there were plenty of empty tables. It took us even more time to get water and order. I don't expect the best service at a Vietnamese place, but for how meh the food was, the service was definitely annoying. I order the Bun Bo Hue and my fiance ordered Pho. We also ordered 2 crunch garden rolls since it was still happy hour. The rolls took 30 mins to come out, and they were fine, just pricy for happy hour appetizer. My Bun Bo Hue took another 20 minutes to come out, and not only did they got my spicy level wrong (gave me blazing instead of medium), there was barely any beef or noodles in it. The bowl was covered in half an inch of chilli oil. My finances Pho was underwhelming to say the least. I am never coming back. read more

Prices are a bit much but the location is in a prime area. The menu isn't limited and has plenty of options, notably vegetarian and pesce ones which is good. Their service during COVID was straight forward and punctual. I've had pho here before which is good, but not my favorite. It's pretty rich but not as oniony/sweet as I prefer and they pre-add cilantro in the broth which I found too -stem-y. (I prefer holy basil over cilantro in my pho.) I ordered banh mi with ham and got the platter which came with a choice of spring or summer rolls and a pint of soup. The combo was perfect and for 11.99 the price wasn't shabby. It's not the best banh mi I've had (cmon, eden center is less than an hour away) but it's a solid, affordable meal for the area that isn't fast food. Major complaint would be how bland the summer roll is - the pork they put in it is too lean and end up feeling like an eraser. The sauce needed more hoisin in it because it was too salty and overwhelmed the summer rolls. I didn't taste the shrimp if there was any in it because of those two factors. read more

Pho 14 has a really light, delicate pho broth. I like it (I don't love it, it lacks some flavor), but my husband does not. He does enjoy their other dishes (specifically their grilled pork). The service is very hit or miss - I asked for my check 5 times over the course of over an hour (it wasn't busy, and fortunately we weren't in a rush). That was a one-time issue, and nothing close has happened again. The staff isn't particularly friendly nor are they particularly cold. Seeing it made me more excited about than looking at the menu. I the the Banh Mi Chay and anything with cilantro is good in my book. It had cilantro so I was very pleased. I read a couple of reviews where people mentioned there not being jalepeños. My food had them, I ended up picking a couple out. I got my food with two Vegetarian Garden Rolls. It was not an addition, the order came with my choice of rolls on the side and a broth that I wasn't expecting. It wasn't much broth but I had enough good food and the broth taste good too. My experience was a very good one. The only reason I don't give Five Stars is not the smoothie but the 1 unisex bathroom. I bet that's a problem when the restaurant is busier.
