Doi Moi was such a lively dinner spot, and we happened to catch the tail end of happy hour, which was a nice bonus. We started with the spring rolls and bao buns, and both were great. Everyone also really enjoyed their cocktails. For dinner, we ordered the drunken noodles with shrimp, mala peanut noodles, and shaken beef. Everything was flavorful and delicious, and the beef was cooked perfectly. Our server was also incredibly patient with us (we were chatting and being indecisive), which we really appreciated. Overall, a fun atmosphere with great food and drinks! read more

- Lots of options for Ayce Brunch at a good price but Felt like it was the same items in different fonts - There were times when the kitchen would get backed up so we'd have to wait before putting our orders in - Wish smaller portions of the main meals would be included in ayce brunch - Cute decor - Great egg rolls, fried jerky, crepes, tofu, pandan cake, samosas, and french toast - everything was mainly fusion. not big fan of the pork crepe or the tuna. read more

extreme busy and loud inside. the walk in wait was estimated 15-20 mins for outside seating, inside seating was packed but I was able to be seated quicker. bar is first come open seating. I was sat and immediately given water with an extra refill glass container. my waitress apologized to me in advance that the kitchen was backed up with orders. even then my drinks and food came out quick for how busy it was and were delicious. dishes came with side of unique sauces, all the food was so flavorful, I didn't need extra condiments. the protein was melt in your mouth. the only thing that took so long was their summer rolls and it wasn't that good, the rice paper was still hard. portions are reasonable for the price. all the employees were polite and checked on me, they cleared my table of empty plates and cups quickly and asked me if I was done before taking anything away. read more

I went for happy hour and really enjoyed the food (Bao buns, gyoza, brussel sprouts, wings, spring rolls) and cocktails. Personally, I think certain items were a little pricey for happy hour. Happy hour is only served at the bar area, and I liked that they extended the area to the tables surrounding bar as well, so there is enough space and it wasn't too crowded. read more

I had a wonderful solo dinner here. I chose to sit outside and despite the rainy weather it was still cozy with their space heaters. I had a Komodo dragon for a drink, I loved the cherry coconut foam it was topped with. Spring rolls were very tasty, loads of shrimp and pork. The duck curry was great. Skin could've been a tad crispier but flavor was all there. I really enjoyed the broccolini it came with as well. Glad I gave this place a try among so many options in the area. read more

Very busy on a Saturday night, but they had open bar and speakeasy seating that worked out to be seated immediately! Service was very kind and they gave suggestions for what was most popular and what they liked, and I went with their suggestions, and it was all so good! The hamachi crudo had a really nice refreshing sauce to go with the yellowtail, and the curry for the duck was really really good. The tofu was what I liked the least because the fry seemed a bit too doughy, and not crunchy enough, and the sauce wasn't the best. Overall very positive though! Definitely recommend this viet fusion restaurant! read more

Doi moi does not disappoint. We went to brunch and it was fantastic. Food was fresh, tapas were great, and service was amazing. We stopped in for some drinks and possibly a bite to eat. Atmosphere is quite comfy and inviting - perfect for people-watching and chilling. Our bartender was friendly and funny. 5th Element cocktail - i don't know if the caramelized pineapple was forgotten but this drink was nothing but sour. No. Just no Stir fried rice noodles - Salty and incredibly greasy. The only saving grace was the sweet sausage, which offered a welcome reprieve from the torture my taste buds were in. I didn't even take the leftovers, a practically inedible dish. Given the sky high prices, you'd expect much better than what was received. First and last time here. read more

This establishment is on the corner of S street and 14 th. It is a big space with a nice bar area and seating outside. We are in town attending a very emotional event. It was a long wait for my dish but I think because there was a bit of a mix up, the girl wanted summer rolls without mint ( I know, I know it's soo good with the mint!) which we were told they could do it, but then was told they wouldn't be able to. Totally understandable. Girl decided to eat elsewhere. I ordered the duck curry. It was so good, crispy skin on the outside with nice pink tender meat on the inside. It went very well with the gai lan (Chinese broccoli) and my fragrant coconut-jasmine rice. I also enjoyed a refreshing and strong iced beverage called Bittersweet Slow Drip. I really don't enjoy sweet coffee so I was happy when they got my drink just right. I would like to give a special shout out to the manager, thank you so much! I will be back. read more

Finally got to check this spot out and went for happy hour. They have some really amazing deals for happy hour (including 50% off all drinks). That was a great selling point for me as someone who isn't drinking, but still got happy hour deals on my drinks (including my tea)! The food was pretty good. They had a good variety for happy hour and I really really enjoyed the pork bao buns. The fried pork dumplings and steamed chicken dumplings were also amazing. The service was a little slow that day, but it was packed so that probably contributed to that. I won't hold that against them. Overall, this spot is a good vibe. I could certainly see myself coming back for dinner or happy hour again. read more

I think Doi Moi has gone a bit downhill for me. I love their banh mi sandwich but I've been a couple times and haven't felt the same way I did my first time. I will say I love the shaken beef and their noodles and I think both are really well seasoned... but aside from that I think there are a lot of misses. For example their whole fish felt a bit one dimensional and their duck curry sounded good on paper but there was practically no curry which was such a bummer. Additionally their butterfly mango sticky rice dessert felt more for show, and that was prioritized over taste. read more

I haven't had a meal this good in a while. The food comes out fast and servers are helpful, direct, and professional. We ordered the brussel sprouts first--I was expecting them to be dry. They were not! Succulent sauce with crispy onion toppings. It was gone. Next we had the fried tofu. A delicious accompaniment not as tasty as the Brussels but overall good seasoning. I did not get a picture of the drunken noodles because we devoured them so quickly. It wasn't too saucy and there was a good amount of vegetables. The spice/heat was light. Finally, we did two orders of the whole fried fish with sticky rice. I can't say how much I enjoyed this. Had the perfect crisp on the outside and the meat was still tender. The spice blend was on point and the sauce took it to another level. My mouth is still watering thinking about it. The gin cocktail I had was a bit sweet for my taste, but otherwise my friends enjoyed their wine selections. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us on the high tables. The seats are a little uncomfortable for me so next time I would def try to reserve a table. I liked the decor, it was festive and bright. read more

Doi Moi has instantly become one of my faves. The service is amazing and the food is bomb. It feels like I've left DC and walked into a vacation every time I walk in. Stopped in for lunch and was seated right away. Our server gave us a few recommendations and then some time to discuss. The decor is calming. I ordered the Kimoto dragon cocktail, and my husband got a mango daiquiri. For food, we got the flash fried beef jerky and the crispy brussels sprouts along with the drunken noodles. We added pork belly to the noodles. I was a little underwhelmed with the cherry coconut foam on my drink. My husband's daiquiri tasted good and it was a great deal at $10. The flash fried beef jerky was amazing. Tender and flavorful. I will comeback for this dish alone. The crispy brussels sprouts were a little soggy. The drunken noodles were a tad oily, but delicious nonetheless. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and will come back again to try more dishes soon. read more

I love Doi Moi. I've only been a handful of times, but on my most recent visit--chosen from a list of restaurants I gave to a close friend visiting from Florida--I finally got to sample a wide range of menu items. And wow... delicious. Doi Moi is a trendy, vibrant bar and restaurant located in the U Street Corridor, just off 14th & U. The main floor offers varied seating, an open kitchen (which I love), and a lively bar. Downstairs feels almost like a speakeasy--dim lighting, bold colors, and cozy nooks with beaded curtains that add a little mystery and privacy. Honestly, it's a whole vibe. We went on Monday night and were likely among the last guests seated--and the last to leave--but we ate very well. We started with drinks, the Kimoto Dragon, which wasn't our favorite. It leaned overly bitter, and the ginger and honey notes didn't really come through. I'm convinced the bartender didn't make it correctly, but what do I know? Everything else, though, was exceptional. Our second round of drinks were daiquiris. I had the banana flavor and enjoyed it. We ordered the wings and the Tháp Mǎu (sample tower), which included chicken dumplings, beef jerky (sensational), pork and shrimp spring rolls, and pork belly bao buns. Each dish came with its own dipping sauce, all of which were thoughtfully paired--adding depth, cutting through the richness, and elevating every bite. We also ordered the Sài Gòn Fried Rice, made with jasmine rice, sausage, shrimp, mushrooms soy sauce, and scallions. The portion was generous, but that didn't stop us from scraping the bowl clean--absolutely superb. And did I mention the wings? So good we ordered them twice! Super crispy, flavorful, and piping hot! The sauces and pickled vegetables complement them perfectly. Doi Moi has yet to disappoint me--perfect for an impromptu lunch, date night, or group meal. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted warmly and seated promptly if space allows. The food comes out hot and quickly, and the concept of family-style dining with shareable small plates really shines and it's appreciated. Since dishes come out as they're ready, I recommend ordering a variety and enjoying the spread--just like we did. read more

I think my expectations may have been just a tad high, but the food overall was very good. The service was also impeccable - shout-out to all the staff members here! Banh mi was good but it felt very Americanized. It was also slightly on the higher end at $17. The duck curry was good except there was actually very little curry. The curry felt more like a dressing for the duck. read more

My son recommended trying Doi Moi for Sunday brunch and I'm glad we did. $37 for most of the shareable dishes on the menu and a limited selection of "Sai Gon sips" for $5/drink. The bottomless drink option adds $27 which seemed steep for us. We each opted for just one of the $5 cocktails each. The apricot spritz was light and refreshing. The food is excellent and comes out quickly. Favorites included the crepes Suzette, spring rolls, chicken skewers and the crispy potato dumpling. Even though the dishes are small, you will get full. There are several dishes I didn't get around to trying, so I guess I'll have to come back!! The interior provided a lively ambiance - the noise level rose as the restaurant filled. Had it been warmer we would've chosen the charming street-side seating. Service was friendly and quick. read more

First time eating here after it was recommended by a family member. Took a larger party-- and one of the people in the group had a food allergy to sesame-- the chef/staff were very accommodating and made sure it was clear which dishes contained sesame! Service was prompt and food came out quickly. I think it's best served family style so you can try a little bit of everything. Summer rolls were okay. Spring rolls were a little too shrimp forward for me. Lemon Grass Chicken-- super tender and left a residual spicy feeling on my tongue! The rice was noted to be both sweet and salty which people enjoyed and the drinks were great! LoMein & Drunken noodles were great! Everyone's favorite dish was the shaking beef! We then inquired about a speakeasy and were taken down the stairs (under a pink lightbulb) and found a super popular speakeasy with good vibes & r&b music which i loved! Would highly recommend! Dinner for 7 people was around $300 (alcohol & tip included!) -- felt appropriate for the amount of food we received! everyone left stuffed! read more

IMHO, this place has overpriced food that is not authentic Vietnamese. Came here for lunch on our visit to DC to see the cherry blossoms. We ordered the shaken beef which was chewy and fatty at the same time, and supposedly it's filet mignon and it was a price gauging $28!!! It was the worst beef I had tasted in a long time. Also got the Saigon fried rice which was ok. The servers brought the wrong food to our table 3 times, not sure what happened there. The spring rolls were pathetic, chewy rice paper with wilted veggies. I knew it wasn't authentic when the menu was in English, shoulda trust my instinct and go somewhere else. Poor quality food, ridonkilous prices. Don't waste your money here. Decor was cute and staff was friendly. read more

Still a fan. Did a take-out recently during the big freeze; the food tasted the same as if I had dined at the restaurant. To me, consistency is a great indicator of quality control. Doi Moi was pretty underwhelming, to be honest. And overpriced too, but that's fairly standard for DC. I went with a small party on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was pretty busy and quite warm inside. I was sweating pretty soon after being seated. The servers were all nice and offered some recommendations for our drinks and entrees though. The drinks were fine, and I think the cocktails were more reasonably priced than the food. The food was sub-par at best. I ordered the Sai Gon fried rice, and it tasted like home cooking - but not in a "wow this is so authentic" way, more so in a "my child helped me prep this dish" way. There were pieces of onion skin, super stringy onion pieces, and giant chunks of only partially chopped up onion throughout my dish. If I'm paying $23 for an entree, I really would expect it to be more refined. My partner also tried the stir fried noodles and that dish was pretty bland overall. I will also note that a friend of ours has a garlic allergy and when asked what options on the menu could be made without garlic, the waiter relayed that she could only have dessert or a plain salad with lime juice as the dressing. I find it hard to believe the French fries couldn't be made without garlic? They also have summer rolls and sides of vegetables on the menu that likely can be made without garlic too. I know a lot of the menu is made of marinated meat, and cross contamination could have been an issue, so we didn't argue. But it did feel pretty dismissive and unhelpful. read more

I really wanted to like this place because of all of the good reviews and everytime I've been to DC/NoVa, I'm blown away by the vietnamese food. I think I came in with different expectations because I was expecting traditional authentic vietnamese flavors. And this is more of a westernized fusion take on vietnamese food which isn't a bad thing. Clearly there were a lot of people there enjoying their food so I'm not here to yuck anyone's yum. The shaken beef and tofu banh mi were fine and objectively speaking they're tasty on its own but knowing how it could taste like, was what made me dock a star. read more

The food menu was extensive so it was hard to make a choice. But I got the Brussel sprouts and chicken dumplings. We had Doi Moi delivered right to our table at Aslin Beer Company, and it elevated our aslin experience. The assortment of food was impressive -- vibrant, flavorful, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Even in takeout form, the quality and presentation held up beautifully.
