My boyfriend and I came here on the very first day they offered bottomless brunch and oh my goodness we were delightfully surprised! We had the absolute best time - almost all of their dishes were amazing and I wish we had the stomach capacity to eat everything because there were other items that we didn't get a chance to try. Some of our favorites were the shrimp toast, the pink panther mocktail, the bread basket with its honey butter, lemongrass chicken noodles, and the pork belly crepes. I also loved the mango and blue sticky rice (it's the butterfly pea flower sauce that gives it the lovely blue color). One item I wasn't a fan of was the brioche ham & cheese - the ham wasn't that good and it was sweet / a weird mix of flavors in our opinion. Service was amazing / our server was delightful and hilarious! Doi Moi's ambiance is also really nice. If you have a dog, they allow dogs outside. Doi Moi had been on my mental must-visit list for a whiiiiile, so when a friend suggested we meet here for dinner, I was excited. The spoiler alert is this: I had a good experience overall (thanks to the service and ambiance), but find it unlikely that I'll opt to go back anytime soon (the food was not impressive at all, and in some cases kinda bad actually). I came here with two friends and we were seated out on the back patio on a beautiful weather day, so the vibes were pretty immaculate. It was positively buzzing but not too loud to hear each other, and our little corner seat was perfect. Our server, Allison H., was fantastic too! High marks on that front. As for what we ordered: - Vietnamese coffee: the serving was pretty small, but I have to say it was tasty and comforting and we all liked it, would totally get it again - Appetizers: we got a bunch and shared them; the spiced tofu was just okay, but the okra and brussels sprouts were pretty good - Drunken noodles: we filled up on apps so only got one entree, but my god was it disappointing -- $30 and barely any flavor, whaaaat (?!) - Desserts: we got the coconut beignets and the mango sticky rice, and I was disappointed with both (especially the mango sticky rice) So definitely a mix of good and bad. The cuisine is Vietnamese street food, which was influenced by French cuisine. Fresh vegetables and herbs plus some heat (spicy) create uniquely tasting offerings. And I've eaten quite a bit of Vietnamese food, but not the street food version. We didn't go downstairs to the "speakeasy" section, so we were upstairs in a pleasant setting. The waiter was very helpful, explaining options and providing recommendations. Food is served right after it's cooked, so everything is fresh and flavorful but will come in whatever order it's cooked The Drunken Noodles, a signature dish, are rice noodles mixed with various vegetables seasoned with basil, fresh ginger, chili paste and soy. It has balanced flavors with a kick. The Crispy Brussel Sprouts is flavored with vegetarian nurc cham, which contains lime, sugar, garlic, chili but is missing the usual fish sauce base. Added was crispy shallots. It was vibrant and spicy. I'm literally writing this review as I'm sitting at the restaurant. I was genuinely so excited to try a Vietnamese bottomless brunch place! We ordered a total of 12 dishes, only two of those dishes were good. That's crazy! I swear I am not trying to be picky, the food sincerely wasn't good. I tried to even gaslight myself into liking some of the dishes. To keep it short - the braised pork banh mi and the flash fried beef jerky are solid! Only dishes that had any reminisce of viet cuisine. To keep it long - * The nuoc mam served with these dishes were straight nuoc and no mam. * They tried to be innovated but the flavors just didn't complement each other. For example, the braised pork crepes did not taste good at all. The crepe was sweet and it stood out so much against the pork. Whatever sauce they had on it tasted sour. In reverse, the dessert crepe tasted eggy and savory so it did not mesh with the citrus flavors. * The egg roll skin was good, but the filling was unseasoned. * The papaya salad did not have any dressing at all. * The chicken skewers had good flavor but the meat itself had a weird texture. Doi Moi has been on my list of restaurants to try for a while. I came here with one of my friends, and we split one of the towers, which was a good amount of food for us. We got the pork dumplings, pork bao, crispy brussel sprouts, and spring rolls. We also gotten an additional crispy tofu since we were a little bit hungry afterwards. All the food was delicious and came out relatively quickly, and it's kind of the perfect set up if you wanna try a bunch of different flavors. Our favorites were the brussels sprouts and the tofu! The dumplings weren't anything to write home about, but they were nonetheless delicious. The fish sauce dip that comes with the spring rolls is also excellent. I recently took my brother out for his birthday for dinner. I gave him about 15 different restaurants to choose from and he chose Doi Moi. I've been here many of times and it is typically the location I highly recommend guest visiting DC. The waiter was great. My favorite item on the menu is the Sai Gon fried rice. Amazing! My friend and I stopped by for drinks and dessert after dinner. We chose to sit outside in the covered street-porch area which was really nice. I've previously been here for dinner a few years ago and wasn't impressed but recently decided to come for weekend lunch and I'm glad I did! The restaurant is in the heart of 14th St and always packed but was fairly quiet when we went. Lots of large windows which allowed a lot of sunlight in. I ordered the lemongrass chicken bowl and removed the cilantro and had them give me a sunny side egg as opposed to a poached egg. Absolutely amazing! The noodles were perfect tasty and everything in the bowl added to the experience. Our waiter was attentive and kept refilling our glasses before we even noticed. While Doi Moi does have many items labeled as gluten free, most of them are fried in a shared fryer and are cross contaminated. Which was a shame because I really wanted to try the chicken wings based on the video I saw. The cocktail I had was lovely, and the staff helped me pick the lemongrass chicken as an alternative option, which was very delicious! I re-ordered it, and while I am happy to see the Vietnamese sausage is indeed still a part of the dish, I only received one piece in the entire order. I would like to ask that there be some additional thought and quality control here - for a $23 dish (that comes out to ~$30 with fees and delivery) there really should be a generous amount of the main protein in the dish. They even have a little market in the front that sells some asian sauces and their own specialty products. During my time there we had brussel sprouts, dumplings and I think the beed jerky. We were visiting the DC area and everyone we spoke to highly recommended Doi Moi as a "Must Visit" place to grab a bite to eat with local flare! Every single dish that was brought over looked great and the whole staff at Doi Moi really made sure they covered each table. We never felt we were ignored. From refilling our water to bussing away an empty finished plate, the overall experience here was special. We really tried all the dishes they had! There's not much room for personal space and we could hear the conversations around us even when we did not want to. Between the two of us, we shared two appetizers and one big entree: CRISPY SPICED TOFU - 12.50 The tofu was indeed very crispy with a nice five spice seasoning. I enjoyed the nuoc cham sauce on the side since it was lightly sweet combined with the savoriness of fish sauce, but my friend was not a fan. FLASH-FRIED BEEF JERKY - 16 The steak strips were marinated, but I thought they were quite dry and bland. It was not tender, and I personally was not a fan. The dipping sauce on the side made it better, but I personally would skip this. MEKONG-STYLE FRIED WHOLE FISH PLATTER - 34.5 They give you a whole fried fish here, and on the menu it's a good sharable between two people. The fish was huge and very crispy. It's not deboned, but that's the fun and more authentic part of it. The crispiness was fantastic and the fish belly meat was very tender and juicy. I liked the chili salt on the side to add an extra kick. However, parts of the fish was dry and not as enjoyable. Overall, fun to eat and share with someone else, and I'd recommend this if you're going to eat here. Our server didn't really check in on us and only brought food to our table without saying/asking much. Overall, pretty mediocre experience in terms of food and service. It doesn't seem like they do anything birthday related at Doi Moi; the hostess did mention celebrating birthdays while taking us to our table, but no dessert on the house or anything like that. Doi Moi is our favorite Vietnamese restaurant - it quite in the neighborhood but within biking distance. Came here for a late brunch on a weekend - first time as before it was always for dinner. They serve brunch till 4 pm , which is pretty good. You have the option of having all you can eat or a la carte, which is what we did, since my main interest is one of their house favorites - the fried whole fish, a dish I always ordered because it's so wonderful, there's just nothing like it. In addition we also had daikon rice cake (completely different from the Chinese version), pork and shrimp spring rolls - the best I've had, and crispy Brussels sprout which turned out to be the only dish that was a bit of disappointment, not very crispy and I wasn't too keen on the sweetish taste. Also not sure about the sticky rice that came with the fish this time - it was really hard when sticky rice really should be softly chewy but not like dried glue. Overall it would still remain one of our favorite restaurants - not just for the food but for the high table seating in the bar area - and will definitely be back for more of that fried whole fish. read more

We went for lunch and they had bottomless deals too - while the drinks were good, the portions were SMALL. I mean, it's bottomless, so it ultimately doesn't matter, but literally one drink was 2-3 sips, so it was a little annoying that I needed to keep ordering drinks every 10 minutes (yes I sip fast); it was probably more annoying for my server haha. Food was great, experience was great, but it was pricey especially for the portions. Adjust expectations before going :) I would certainly visit Doi Moi again. The peanut sauce on top was sweet and complimented the savory pork filling. The drunken noodles were also great, though a bit spicy. The noodles were tossed with broccoli, mushrooms, squash, snap peas, basil ginger and soy sauce. The chili paste is what made it so spicy. The next dish we ordered was a little disappointing, the shaken beef. It wasn't bad. But we've had this dish at other places and the flavor and tenderness of the beef was much better at other places. With that said, we ate it all and it was perfectly fine. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice. This is a favorite dessert of my partner. Overall, this place was great. Summer rolls were a little bit old tasting, they were kind of hard - I would say going to a smaller Vietnamese restaurant is better for good fresh summer rolls. But the piña coladas were SO GOOD. Dinner at Doi Moi proved to be a surprisingly disappointing experience. Although the restaurant was only moderately busy -- approximately half full, with three bartenders actively working -- the service throughout the evening was exceptionally slow. To keep things straightforward, my friend and I ordered three neat Jameson shots, one draft beer, and requested a Coke as a back. Even this relatively simple order took nearly 20 minutes to arrive, and unfortunately the pace of service did not improve as the evening continued. The more significant issue arose when it came time to settle the checks. My friend and I had only ordered drinks and did not dine, while another group we encountered there maintained an entirely separate tab. Despite this, my friend was presented with an additional charge of nearly $60 for items we are certain we did not order. This reflected a concerning lack of attention to accurately tracking orders at the table. As we were preparing to leave, the server also stopped me to request an additional $5 payment for the Coke back. I paid the charge without objection; however, it had not been communicated that requesting a small chaser would result in being charged for a full unopened can of Coca-Cola. Had this been clarified in advance, the misunderstanding could easily have been avoided. While occasional mistakes are understandable in hospitality, the combination of slow service, questionable billing accuracy, and insufficient communication regarding charges resulted in an experience that felt inattentive and poorly managed. read more

This is for the bar service only- I had a couple drinks this Saturday afternoon and the bartender was attentive and cordial. Their drink menu was diverse and had a lot of tropical or fruity types- perfect for summer. I came here bc Garden District was packed (and really not my scene to begin with), which is across the street. Their outdoor seating appears quaint and cute. I'd come back to try the food but I do hear it's a bit too "Americanized," so a bit iffy on that front. read more
