I went here for brunch. The bahn mi wasn't good at all. The food was cold and the pork meatballs were disgusting. However, they have a variety of items on the menu. Maybe other entrees on the menu are tastier. The croissants were to die for though! They came out warm and fresh. The spicy butter that came with the croissants were delicious! The service was awful. Came for a friend's birthday for the first time and really liked it! My friends loved their 888 deal: $8 daquiris, 8 days a week, before 8 PM. They had unique flavors like lychee, banana, and lemongrass. I didn't try any this time but my friends had multiple. Our server, I think his name was David, was very good about checking up on us. For my friend's free birthday dessert they gave us 7 beignets so one for all 6 of us plus an extra. Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts! We loved the first batch so much we ordered more. I had the lemongrass pork skewers as my entree - it was tasty but I'd definitely recommend supplementing it with either another side or splitting another entree with someone. Doi Moi is our favorite Vietnamese restaurant - it quite in the neighborhood but within biking distance. Came here for a late brunch on a weekend - first time as before it was always for dinner. They serve brunch till 4 pm , which is pretty good. You have the option of having all you can eat or a la carte, which is what we did, since my main interest is one of their house favorites - the fried whole fish, a dish I always ordered because it's so wonderful, there's just nothing like it. In addition we also had daikon rice cake (completely different from the Chinese version), pork and shrimp spring rolls - the best I've had, and crispy Brussels sprout which turned out to be the only dish that was a bit of disappointment, not very crispy and I wasn't too keen on the sweetish taste. Also not sure about the sticky rice that came with the fish this time - it was really hard when sticky rice really should be softly chewy but not like dried glue. Overall it would still remain one of our favorite restaurants - not just for the food but for the high table seating in the bar area - and will definitely be back for more of that fried whole fish. read more

Doi Moi is nestled amongst a lot of other restaurants on 14th street. The place was filled with people when I popped in on a weekday evening. The interior design is really cute and low lit. They even have a little market in the front that sells some asian sauces and their own specialty products. During my time there we had brussel sprouts, dumplings and I think the beed jerky. Nothing really stood out and I felt like the flavors lacked. The drinks were also the same, good but not amazing enough to come back necessarily. They have a downstairs bar that I didn't get to visit but my friend said that it's pretty cool. I'd probably come back for happy hour and that is it. read more

This place is awesome! As soon as I walked in, I could smell all the great good! It was busy, but didnt seem packed or crowded. There was a really good energy in the restaurant! I sat at the bar waiting for my party to arrive and for our table to be ready. We had some last minute friends join us and they were able to accommodate our added guests. The bartender was super friendly and took time to explain the menu and make recommendations. Same for our server once we got a table. I ordered their $10 daiquiri, both mango and lychee. So good! My friend and I got dinner at Doi Moi this past Wednesday evening to celebrate her birthday. We made a reservation, just in case. The table we were seated at was honestly such a tight squeeze. There's not much room for personal space and we could hear the conversations around us even when we did not want to. Between the two of us, we shared two appetizers and one big entree: CRISPY SPICED TOFU - 12.50 The tofu was indeed very crispy with a nice five spice seasoning. I enjoyed the nuoc cham sauce on the side since it was lightly sweet combined with the savoriness of fish sauce, but my friend was not a fan. FLASH-FRIED BEEF JERKY - 16 The steak strips were marinated, but I thought they were quite dry and bland. It was not tender, and I personally was not a fan. The dipping sauce on the side made it better, but I personally would skip this. MEKONG-STYLE FRIED WHOLE FISH PLATTER - 34.5 They give you a whole fried fish here, and on the menu it's a good sharable between two people. The fish was huge and very crispy. It's not deboned, but that's the fun and more authentic part of it. The crispiness was fantastic and the fish belly meat was very tender and juicy. I liked the chili salt on the side to add an extra kick. However, parts of the fish was dry and not as enjoyable. Overall, fun to eat and share with someone else, and I'd recommend this if you're going to eat here. Our server didn't really check in on us and only brought food to our table without saying/asking much. Overall, pretty mediocre experience in terms of food and service. It doesn't seem like they do anything birthday related at Doi Moi; the hostess did mention celebrating birthdays while taking us to our table, but no dessert on the house or anything like that. It was so pleasant to eat and everything complimented each other perfectly. I wish I can have it again just from writing this review. Contained honey soy marinated pork with chilled rice noodles, vegetables that were seasoned to perfection, sauce and garnish to top it off. The flavor of the pork was phenomenal. The food indeed made this dining experience worth it. The bathroom also features eclectic decor that is great for all of your influencer photos. Good food. Undeniable -- Doi Moi chefs can COOK. Doi Moi is a street food style spot, and the interior has a fun, colorful and hip vibe. It's a tapas style, so make sure to order accordingly. Drunken noodle was my favorite dish! Flavors were balanced perfectly, noodles cooked just right. My husband loved their beef jerky. We went for lunch and they had bottomless deals too - while the drinks were good, the portions were SMALL. I mean, it's bottomless, so it ultimately doesn't matter, but literally one drink was 2-3 sips, so it was a little annoying that I needed to keep ordering drinks every 10 minutes (yes I sip fast); it was probably more annoying for my server haha. Food was great, experience was great, but it was pricey especially for the portions. Adjust expectations before going :) I would certainly visit Doi Moi again. And recommend you try it out at least once. read more

Drinks- Now this is how you can become an alcoholic, the drinks were amazing. I literally would come back just for drinks! Watermelon Daiquiri and Lychee See, Lychee Do, PERFECTION! Spring Rolls - Good but not my favorite! They have a different take on the spring roll. I am used to veggies but they have pork and shrimp that is somewhat grounded. Not my fave! Note: the menu clearly says it's pork and shrimp, but it's just not what I expected. Asian Wings - Full of flavor! Met expectations! Sai Gon Fried Rice - Lots of Shrimp and tons of flavor. I visited here on a rainy DC night and loved our experience. Normally, this place looks very busy but on the night we went, it was pretty empty. We were able to take our pick of tables. We grabbed a spot right in the front window at a high top table. The ambiance was perfect for our date night. The food was overall very good. The steamed pork dumplings were the hit of the night. The peanut sauce on top was sweet and complimented the savory pork filling. The drunken noodles were also great, though a bit spicy. The noodles were tossed with broccoli, mushrooms, squash, snap peas, basil ginger and soy sauce. The chili paste is what made it so spicy. The next dish we ordered was a little disappointing, the shaken beef. It wasn't bad. But we've had this dish at other places and the flavor and tenderness of the beef was much better at other places. With that said, we ate it all and it was perfectly fine. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice. This is a favorite dessert of my partner. Overall, this place was great. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I like the casual, cool vibe of the spot that isn't always something you find in DC. I would love to come back and try some of the other dishes, like the Ratatouille Curry, which our server recommended. My partner isn't into total vege dishes. That's more my jam. This restaurant used to be one of my favorite spots whenever I visited DC. In fact, I dined here almost every night during my 2023 trip. Unfortunately, my husband and I were very disappointed with our dinner tonight. We were seated in the Happy Hour bar area around 5 p.m., specifically at the long raised cushion seating against the wall. It was one of the most uncomfortable setups I've ever experienced -- awkwardly designed, with the seat height falling somewhere between a bar stool and a standard dining chair. It made it difficult to sit comfortably and left my legs and lower back aching. The food quality has noticeably declined compared to before, and while the service was acceptable, it lacked the warmth and attentiveness I remembered. This review is intended for management's awareness. I truly hope you'll take a moment to experience that particular seating area yourselves -- it might help improve comfort for future guests. read more

Walked into Doi Moi with a DC local a few nights ago and instantly felt the energy and vibes--the speakeasy was especially aesthetic. One of the most flavorful and delicious dining experiences I've had this year! Every dish was so delicious, and each accompanying sauce was a flavor explosion. The whole grilled fish, okra, fried oyster mushrooms, drunken noodles and fried chicken were standouts. The shaken beef was also good. The Vietnamese iced coffee softserve was sensational. This meal had people who didn't like okra trying (and loving) okra, people who didn't like mushroom trying (and loving) the fried oyster mushrooms, and people who didn't like coffee ice cream, licking the last drops of the softserve. Doi Moi is highly recommended. We came mid-afternoon on a Saturday and it was not crowded. Reservation options were abundant. I like that for your reservation you can specify for a table whether you want dining room, hightop or outdoor. The ambience is comfortable and the music played at just the right volume. Service was absolutely stellar. Now on to the food. We had the best dumplings ever. The pork filling was so delicious, accompanied by a nice dipping sauce. Our excellent server also brought me some sweet soy sauce to use as a dipping sauce since the regular sauce has cilantro. This was my first encounter with sweet soy sauce and I would posit that it can go with just about anything. So good! I ordered the stir-fried rice noodles. This is one of the best dishes I have ever eaten anywhere! Incredibly delicious! Besides the rice noodles, this dish contains bite-sized pieces of shrimp, slices of tasty Portuguese-like sausage, onion, black garlic sauce and then topped with an over-easy egg. JP ordered the Doi Moi Benedict. It consists of poached eggs and pork belly squares over two flattened ovals of rice. Note that the rice is just rice, not the gelantous pasta-like item you might think of when you picture rice cakes, as in Korean cuisine. Restaurants do right by their customers when they are specific and detailed in their menu descriptions. In the case of the Doi Moi Benedict, they should have mentioned, but didn't, that the pork belly is loaded with five spice seasoning. Five spice is pungent and not everybody likes it. The mango sticky rice was decent. The pre-scored mango was ripe, fresh and full-flavored. Loved the purple sweet coconut sauce that came with the rice. The service was great and was quick - considering how many people were there. The waitress was great! She was super knowledgeable of the menu and recommended some great things for us to try. I ordered the lychee daquiri which was perfect for a hot summer day! It was super refreshing and was made better with the $8 happy hour deal that was happening. The portions are definitely big enough to share. We ended up getting the Crispy Pork Belly Bao Buns, the Crispy Pork Belly entre and the Stir Fried Rice Noodles. All of these dishes were DELICIOUS. The bao buns were the perfect starter and the Crispy Pork Belly entre had just the right amount of spice. I was so surprised to stumble across this place via the drinking passport being that I've ventured this neighborhood so many times. Luckily, it helped me stumble across this little gem. I sat at the bar for happy hour and was taken care of by Patrick bartender. He provided excellent customer service. In addition to making great drinks he also had great convo. Went here for their new bottomless brunch menu and or definitely exceeded our expectations. We got the bottomless options (everyone at the table had to get it which was perfectly fine with us) and were pleased to note there was a wide variety of drinks and food. I usually am not a fan of bottomless food options because the food is usually not great (thinking of a certain Balkan restaurant here), but was very happy with the food here. We came on the day they first offered the bottomless brunch, and they did a great job explaining our options and the limitations. We got seated on the outside patio on a warm spring Saturday, so we got to people watch and enjoy the food and drink. Our waiter, James, was great and patient and he offered to put in orders for the food and have them come out for us and we could order anything else that caught our eye if it didn't come out. The dumplings were delicious and the brussel sprouts were also very good. The favorites of the table were the sesame bread in the bread basket with the honey butter, the lemongrass chicken noodles, the basil fried rice, and the skewers, but everything we tasted was very good. The only sad thing was that we got so full on the main dishes that we couldn't really try the dessert. I'll save room for next time. The drinks were delicious and not too boozy but not watered down, and having different options for the drinks was amazing. The Kimoto Dragon was my favorite and the daiquiris were well executed. My friend who loves Bloody Marys said the taste was fine, but he needed a little more spice and umami flavor, so he switched to other cocktails instead.
