Had a great late dinner with a friend at Billy Hicks in Georgetown! We arrived around 9:30 p.m., and I believe the kitchen closed at 11 that night. The sweet potato gnocchi was so good and easily my favorite. The beet and goat cheese salad and wings were also delicious, and the Oreo cake wasn't overly sweet. The burger and chicken tenders with fries were pretty average. The only downside was slow service. Our corner table seemed to get overlooked, even while the server helped neighboring tables. Other guests actually tried to help flag him down! I learned to ask for everything at once whenever he stopped by because getting his attention again was difficult. Overall, a great experience with some standout dishes, plenty of seating, and a lively, casual atmosphere for catching up with friends. Extremely disappointing experience from start to finish. The food was mediocre at best. The jam served with the pancakes was terrible and tasted like something straight out of a supermarket rather than something made in-house. The omelette was nothing special, and the potatoes were undercooked, cold, and practically raw. For a brunch spot, I expected much better quality and attention to detail. Billy Hicks is such a cute little spot with major café vibes! The space is charming and cozy, although it is pretty small, so it can feel a little tight when it's busy. We started with the snacking bacon, and the flavor was AMAZING. I just wish ours had been a little crispier and served hotter. The steak and eggs were good, but the short rib Bennies were definitely my favorite of the savory dishes. And the breakfast potatoes? BOMB. The seasoning was absolutely perfect! But the true star of the meal was the churro French toast. It was SO good that I would honestly come back just for that alone. Definitely a must-try! Billy Hicks We had a rare weekend day off together so we decided to hit brunch. I immediately thought back to that time (Easter Sunday) we went to Billy Hicks and I said we gotta go back! The atmosphere is casual and fun, and when it's busy or empty it feels like just a simple easy spot to get good food. The first visit ordered some kind of potato hash with eggs on top and avocado slices. It was just ok. We shared the pancakes which were top tier. Fluffy and crispy. Perfect! That was the main reason I wanted to come back. Drinks: At this point I have to say beware of the "loaded" bloody Mary which is literally just a glass of the drink, not loaded with anything. I don't know why they call it that. But it's good! It just isn't loaded with anything. The coffee is great. I'm fancy sometimes so I opened with a bloody, then ate breakfast, then took it slow with an iced latte after the meal. We were sitting in the deck and the weather was perfect for relaxing. The GF reports that the mimosas are great... Poured to the top and a good ratio of orange to champagne. Back to the food: This latest visit I ordered the Bfast Sandie with fennel sausage. This was a good sandwich overall but it's served on a croissant which to me is too rich and buttery for a sandwich that already has sausage and cheese. Some other bread or English muffin would make this perfect. Such a cute spot sitting at the corner of a busy Georgetown block. This place looks like a British pub with its cute decor but the bathroom can use some renovations because the paint was falling. However, it's definitely the place where you could enjoy great brunch or sit at the bar and enjoy the game on one of their big screens. I was able to grab a seat without reservations but from the look of things, it was pretty packed in there so I'd likely advise that you make reservations online. Shoutout to our waiter Desha. He was managing several tables but doing it all with a smile and excellent service. My boyfriend ordered a latte and I ordered their French martini. He enjoyed his drink but wished that the sweetener added was mixed in and not settled at the bottom of the mug. My French martini was a refreshing drink, very subtle in taste. For food I ordered the Bfast Sandie....O-M-G! Talk about a scrumptious breakfast sandwich and delicious breakfast potatoes on the side. The croissant was buttery soft and the eggs were fluffy and bursting with flavor. The bacon had a sweet aftertaste, pulling this sandwich together well. I loved it! Came for dinner on a crowded Friday night. Cute bar area and decor with a casual diner/cafe vibe. We snagged a booth and so glad because the cafe tables are really packed in tightly! Service was excellent despite a packed house. Food was pretty average and overpriced, but it is Georgetown I guess. Everything we tried was excellent. The short rib was rich and tender, the hot chicken sandwich was a standout, and the thin-cut fries are easily some of the best I've had in DC. Not wheelchair accessible, and the manager and staff on duty showed very little empathy or concern for making the situation right. On Sept. 26, my son and daughter visited this establishment. My son uses a wheelchair. Before waiting for a table, they specifically asked about accessibility because the seating area was approximately five stairs up. They were assured that the restaurant had a wheelchair lift that my son would be able to use. After waiting 30 minutes, they were told that the lift was broken. His only option was to have strangers carry him and his wheelchair up the stairs. Carrying a person in a wheelchair up stairs is not a viable accessibility solution. It is dangerous for both the person being carried and those attempting to carry them, and it compromises the person's dignity. The other option was to leave, which is what they ultimately did. To add further insult, they were apparently sitting at a small table by the door while waiting ... and that was never even offered up as an option for them to sit at. As his parents, we called the manager on duty to better understand what had happened. Unfortunately, she was unapologetic, dismissive, and showed little empathy. She emphasized that it was "not their fault" and pointed to the option of having strangers carry my son upstairs. There was no accountability, no apology, and, most importantly, no attempt whatsoever to make the situation right. If an establishment relies on a wheelchair lift for accessibility, it should be checked in the morning to ensure it is working before guests are seated or asked to wait. Had my son and daughter been told when they arrived that the lift was not working, they would have understood and simply left. What was most disappointing was not just the broken lift, but the dismissive attitude and complete lack of effort to address the situation with any empathy or consideration. read more

Went here for brunch with my teenage daughter. Food was so good! We shared the blueberry ricotta pancakes were incredible? Topped with a blueberry compote and lemon curd with She got the steak and eggs. Steak was perfectly marinated and cooked to the absolute right temperature. Eggs were slightly undercooked but that's forgiven! I had the farm hash which was so delicious. Our coffees were delish as well. I can't recommend the food here enough! Now for the down side. The service was atrocious, from the host to the waiter to the person who brought the food to the table. As an example, we waited 15 minutes for our server to take our order. We waited 25 minutes for coffee then 10 more for our food. The coffee was delivered without sugar or a spoon and he didn't reappear. I asked another person for sugar and a spoon - she never returned. Then I asked a third young man who brought them immediately - my coffee was nearly cold at that point. One of several service issues. All that said, we'll come back for the food but won't come too hungry and will have low service expectations. Maybe the service will be better next time. read more

I asked the bartender if it was made with freshly brewed espresso and she said yes. I'm not a regular coffee drinker, but it didn't taste like brewed espresso. It did have a bold, rich, and smooth espresso like flavor. The bold aftertaste leaned more toward a coffee flavored liqueur. I also tried the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer, which the bartender highly recommended. While I appreciated the suggestion, I didn't love the pairing with the drink. The flavors just didn't complement each other. The shrimp itself wasn't quite my style, but that's more personal taste than anything. The server right away brought us waters and menu and welcomed us, even though our other two guests hadn't arrived. He also checked in again after about 10-15minutes to see if we still wanted to wait or but in a drink order. Great service from start to finish. - Definitely get the wings - they were a great crispy skin to moist chicken meat ratio. Lemon pepper was great seasoning not overly salty. The Ranch was a perfect dip. - I ordered the salmon entree with green beans (4 of 5), it was good but not exactly a wow factor. - I was happy that I could order an espresso bc we were headed to Blues Alley for a show after dinner and needed a little pick me up. Okay so I've been here one other time with my friend for her birthday (we loved it). But we had gone for lunch so I wanted to check this place out for dinner. Plus we had gone when they opened two days prior. So now they've been around the block since October... Ugh I loved it. But why am I at 4 stars then? I think the food is a 5/5, but our service was so bad. I can't remember our server's name, but it's probably because he was so inattentive. He didn't check on us at all and I wish we could've just tipped the busser instead. I can understand being so busy. But that's the thing. It wasn't that busy! After we sat down (and waited ten minutes), he took our drink order and then didn't return for 30 minutes! We had to flag him down to order our food because he just didn't care enough to check on us and would rather watch March Madness or chat with the bartender. Even after we finished eating and wanted to get a box to go, he was just not there and we had to wave over someone from the front. A restaurant this good should have 5 stars. Super cute place in a busy area of Georgetown. I loved that you could get brunch and lunch (if you were seated at the right time). Even though we got there way before brunch ended, it took quite awhile to get seated, so we had to order from the lunch menu. We were seated 15 minutes past their brunch time and they wouldn't even serve an açaí bowl, which didn't require cooking. But, moving on. I loved the fried-bread like donut that they provide at the beginning of the meal. Those were so good. We opted for the chop chop salad, the pretzel and the carne asada tacos. Food was really good. The pretzel was the favorite. Everything came out fairly quickly considering they were busy. I would say I wish our waiter would have been a bit more pleasant and present. The photos were misleading for sure :( Besides our server (isabelle/a?) disappearing for a good portion of the time we were seated, the food was not great. We tried the chips&dips which were mid at best, the "guac" was straight up mashed avocado with no seasoning or other veg added.. the fish tacos were just okay, and my steak was ordered medium and came very much well done and not seasoned?? I was annoyed at myself for trying this place instead of going somewhere familiar for my birthday. Best part of the entire meal were the Ozzy rolls I had to specifically ask for- and my server didn't seem to know what i meant until i described the circular bread...? Came here on a weekend afternoon for lunch. We were sat at a pretty small table. Usually tables for two are small, but this one felt particularly tiny. Perhaps it was just too closely situated near other tables, but I wish the table itself was a little bit more spacious and that we have more room in between tables. Otherwise, Billy Hicks has clean bathrooms that are spacious, and were some of the cuter bathrooms I've seen in DC (like their brass details). saw how popular this place was and had to check it out. besides the interior i do have some criticisms about this place.. including the service and food. we got the billy burger and fried chicken platter. the burger was way too salty - we had to leave half of it behind. the chicken platter was seasoned perfectly though, went amazing with the cole slaw. i agree with all the other reviews, the parmesan fries are the best!! service was meh, besides taking orders and the check we never saw our server. check took about 10-15 minutes after finishing our meal to get to us. people at the front looked upset to even be there. music is deafening.. i had to raise my voice significantly to talk to my partner. though, i do think everyone should try this place out at least once. it is worth the vibe. read more
