It's officially DMV's restaurant week and 1789 has been on my list of restaurants to try for awhile. I got to go with one of my best friend's and we really enjoyed their menu. We shared scallops (not bad), and crude was really light and refreshing. She ordered the halibut (by far my favorite for the night) and the lamb --which was good but really heavy for me. Probably would recommend it for the men that are hungry. For dessert I had the deconstructed cheesecake and my friend had the chocolate ganache. We also purchased drinks (I think her cocktail was called first date?) and mine was the continental. I like my alcohol a bit stronger so I really enjoyed hers more. Service from the hostess could have been better. They called 30 minutes before our reservation as I originally wanted a table of 4 with friends but they told me they had only a table of 2 available. 30 minutes is definitely not enough time to gather my 2 other friends to swing by, I think that was poor timing on their end. It'd beautiful and intimate in the restaurant. A very good place for date night.

I took my new fiancé to 1789 for her birthday and it was such a phenomenal experience! Our waiter, Kyle, did such a great job of taking care of us and being very welcoming with us! I love that the focus was on her for her birthday and then even more after we discussed that we just got engaged the day before! He help recommend an amazing white wine and then went over the menu, and also gave her a special "Happy Birthday" menu, and helped us make very informed choices. Let's just start with the butter... it was soooo smooth and silky and was whipped and whipped and then it seems whipped again. And that's just the butter. From there we had the Wagyu Tartare, which came with Black Garlic Aioli, Quail Egg & Gaufrette Potato, which was incredibly tasty as well as very filling and a good sized portion to share! Following, we chose the Hudson Valley Foie Gras with Cherry Mostarda, Brioche, & Duck Jus. It was perfectly laid out and was so rich in flavor! She chose the Pekin Duck Breast with Confit Ravioli, Broccolini & Carrot-Gochujang Glaze. HUGE PORTION! But just like the rest, rich in flavor and she LOVED IT! Of course, I chose the New Zealand Venison with Balsamic-Port Reduction, King Trumpet & Potato Pavé, and it was SOOOOO AMAZING! It was a very hefty portion and the crust of it just exploded with flavor! They followed it up with a couple of coconut chocolates and a Happy Birthday and Congratulations chocolates for her as well! This was our first time there and even more, Kyle gave us a recommendation and a personal referral for a place he highly recommended. This was such a great experience and we cannot wait to check out his recommendation!!!

    Congratulations!

First Visit to 1789 Restaurant & Bar - A Memorable Experience This was my first time dining at 1789 Restaurant & Bar, and I was pleasantly surprised. From the moment I arrived, the 1789 Team made me feel right at home with their stellar service. The food was absolutely incredible, and the libations were top-notch. The atmosphere is charming--like taking a step back in time. The restaurant is cozy, warm, and filled with character. I'll definitely be returning! If you're ever in the area...GET SOME!

Nothing wrong with the restaurant per se. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't exceptional either. It was just ....expensive for no reason. It was plated ok, not too bad. My lamb lacked flavor. The entire dish lacked flavor. The restaurant is somewhere I'd take the elders in my family. The restaurant is very clean and quaint, but not trendy, modern or hip. It's going for upscale but doesn't quite hit that mark either. The staff was cool. After spending $250, I was still hungry. Left, walked around Georgetown a little and then went to 90 second pizza.

Incredible experience again at 1789! The dining room is very cozy with the big fireplace and historic vibes. Service was amazing all night - our servers made great recommendations for each of our courses (great restaurant week menu). Entire meal was incredible from cocktails and apps to the main course and dessert. Highly recommend the lobster bisque, filet, rockfish, and gelatos/sorbets!

Dinner at @ in Georgetown. My uncle took us to one of his favorite restaurants and wow was it good. Menu is not large, but every dish is executed very well. I am typically not a fan of snails, but the escargot here were amazing! The trout had a perfect crisp skin, while still maintaining a juicy, flakey center. The Pineapple Upside Down Cake was also really good as well! Great spot for a date night with great service! The ambiance has a 1940s vibe, dark wood, low ceilings with what sounded like the soundtrack to the Notebook. Service was top notch with several staff checking in on us, without being overbearing. The food was delicious and fresh. My favorite was the New Bedford Scallops. The sauce was sweet, salty and tart. I also enjoyed the fresh bread, which helped me wipe the bouillabaisse off my branzino dish. We received a complimentary birthday dessert along with a copy of the menu rolled up like a scroll as a keepsake. Recommended for a special occasion for sure.

So I went here for restaurant week and wow what a pick! This place is so good! It's a perfect date night, friends night etc. Ambiance is cute and romantic, dimly lit and cozy. The food? No complaints beginning to end. We got steak, halibut and the short rib and literally all of us were so satisfied. Food super flavorful. And a cute place to get good food. Service was on point too.

1789 is still one of my favorite restaurants. This time, my date and I on a whim decided to go without reservations. The restaurant takes their reservations seriously and said they only had room at the bar. The brioche crusted halibut is still exquisite. Also the bartender graciously made me a French Blonde even though he had never done so before. He nailed it. The dessert of a bananas foster was more deconstructed but still decadent. The only negatives is that the bread isn't as good as before Covid and we weren't treated to any amuse bouche like before.

Super popular tourist spot (and with good reason!),I def reccomend making a reservation. Luckily for my visit on a Saturday at 1pm, the wait to be seated wasn't too long, only about 10 minutes. I've never had oysters anywhere besides New York so I wanted to try them here and my mom got the fried oyster deviled eggs. Our sever Stephanie was such a delight and probably has the coolest pin collection I've ever seen. Also the restaurant just has a really beautiful atmosphere to sit down and enjoy some really great hospitality. Onto the food! Oysters were smaller than I thought they'd be but SO FLAVORFUL and just the right amount of brine, and slid beautifully from the shell 10/10 The deviled eggs were given a 10/10, presentation was beautiful and the pickled relish was a well rounded addition We then finished up by sharing the cheasapeake eggs Benedict! Which featured their famous crab cake. The HOLLANDAISE?? literally danced in my mouth. The crab meat was so tender and buttery! Only difference I would've loved if the smoked paprika that was on the deviled eggs to also be featured on the Benedict! Over all it was a very lovely and sense awakening experience 9/10

My spouse and I decided to treat ourselves on a beautiful Thursday night and - hold on - The Admiral was the place we selected. Ok, so it's halfway between our office and our house but even if it were WAY out of the way, we would gladly go there. The food is solid, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the service is always perfection. This time I had the Filibuster Smash Burger. OMG so good! A 4 ounce burger patty topped with shaved steak, some sort of sauce that kept it moist and tasty and some veggies to make my doctor happy. The menu said the sauce had jalapeno in it but there is not even a hint of spiciness on this burger. However, it is a total huge mess to eat so I had to eat like a grandpa, cutting the burger with a knife. But I didn't care because I loved this burger! My spouse had the All American Burger and he put the server through his paces asking for every topping to be served on the side. Sounds like a mean thing to do but the server gladly satisfied his wishes. To be honest, my spouse enjoyed the burger immensely and added only the toppings he wanted, in the amounts he wanted and there is nothing wrong with that. Our server, Declan, was very friendly, fast and served us perfectly. So, another great meal at The Admiral with great food, great service and great times!!!! She was most likely on auto pilot and appeared embarrassed when she realized it. I politely smiled and said (confidently), table for 1. We solo diners need to be loud and proud! I digress... Before being seated I found the restroom. I found it odd that it was extremely dim. The main dining room was brighter than the restroom! I also saw the Photo Booth. Interesting addition. $5 for pictures. I was seated at a small round table with two chairs by the window. The restaurant was plenty busy, and I'm just glad I wasn't asked if I wanted to sit at the bar (I didn't). My server Noel brought two bottles of water: still and sparkling. I requested lemon slices, which he brought. And I proceeded to finish the entire bottle of sparkling by the end of the meal...guess I was thirsty! But I appreciated the option of both. I forgot to ask for a straw, but saw them in a container at the register right behind my table, so I got one myself. After ordering I noticed a nearby table had some bread so I asked Noel if they served complimentary bread. He said yes and apologized for not bringing it initially. Not that I needed it, but I don't eat bread with butter often and this was a night out to indulge a bit. There were two slices, nothing special. My food arrived within about 10-15 minutes and looked so scrumptious. I ordered the lamb and short rib meatballs and Brussels sprouts. The meatballs were pretty good, but what made them even better was the tzatziki sauce. I didn't realize the green rice was on one side of the plate until I was almost done. That tzatziki sauce was really all I needed to go with the meatballs. It was cool and creamy to go with the dry, meatiness of the meatballs. I honestly wish there had been more of it! I did not finish the rice, which didn't look super appetizing because of the intense green color. I will say though, I'm not a fan of spicy food but the tzatziki had a kick. I think perhaps due to chopped jalapeños. I tried to avoid them once I realized. The Brussels were delicious! Roasted to perfection, not too charred and not too mushy. I requested the green goddess sauce on the side because I'm not a huge sauce person, but once I tried it, I couldn't stop. Again, the combination of the creaminess of the sauce with the flakiness of the Brussels was a genius pairing. During the meal the beverage manager stopped by. I didn't have any drinks with the meal, but perhaps I will return to see what they have. Noel brought the bill at my request, then brought over the portable device so I could pay at the table. While that process is efficient, it's always awkward leaving a tip when the server is standing right there. Anyhow, overall it was a good experience and a delicious meal!

It ended up being a little dry, but the fries were crispy, well-seasoned, and a hit with everyone at the table. My son had the NY strip steak with mashed potatoes and really enjoyed it. The steak was cooked well, and the mashed potatoes were incredibly creamy and smooth. I ordered the sugar snap pea salad with salmon, and it was exactly what I was looking for on a hot summer evening. The salad was fresh, light, and refreshing, with a subtle hint of mint that really made the flavors pop. The salmon was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with the salad. My friend ordered the sugar snap salad with chicken Milanese, and the portion was enormous. The chicken literally covered the entire plate! It looked delicious and would easily satisfy a hearty appetite. The Mac & cheese was cooked well with a nice crust on top. Overall, the food was fresh, the portions were generous, and there was something for everyone. I'd definitely return the next time I'm in DC.

We visited…read moreover the 4th of July weekend, and even with the holiday crowds, the experience was just as great as always. We've only been here for brunch, and it has been consistently excellent. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the restaurant is always clean and inviting. One thing that really stands out is their customer service. On our last visit, we arrived just five minutes before they switched from the brunch menu to lunch, and they still let us order brunch without making us feel rushed. That kind of flexibility and kindness really makes a difference. If you're a fan of Bloody Marys, don't skip them here! They make one of the best I've had and it's the perfect complement to brunch. The atmosphere is lively but comfortable, and unlike a few other restaurants we visited during the summer, they actually keep the air conditioning on, which made our meal much more enjoyable on a hot day. One thing to note is that the restrooms are located downstairs in the hotel next door. They were clean and easy to find once we asked. Overall, Chef Geoff's West End never disappoints. Great food, excellent service, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere keep us coming back every time we're in DC. It's definitely one of our favorite brunch spots, and we highly recommend it.
