My favorite coffee shop in DC so far, by far. Dua DC is an Indonesian-coffee shop serving delicious coffee and amazing vibes -- the kind that remind you life is beautiful. They were playing bossa and jazz. I opted for the Aren latte and Indonesian beef rissole. Aren latte: 5/5 Latte with an in-house made Aren (palm sugar from West Java) for that hint of molasses and dark brown sugar This was one of my favorite coffees I've had in a while. There was a delicious coffee taste not overshadowed but rather enhanced by the smoky sweet taste of the Aren. I'll be thinking about this latte for a while. Indonesian beef rissole: 3/5 Batter-like skin rolled in breadcrumbs filled with savory ground halal beef & sautéed vegetables While I've never had this dish before, I googled pictures of what it should look like, and mine seemed to have significantly less meat than it should've. The taste was still delicious and seasoned and hearty, but it was mostly mush with some veggies and hardly any beef. While I thought the rissole was disappointing, I love the aren latte so much I'll still keep the 5 star review. read more

Coffee hits different here with the right notes. DC's diverse crowd is truly served well here. While not a coffee expert per se, I try to be open to different flavors nuanced and not. I tend to like sugar (too much) but try to drink black sometimes to try to appreciate the actual coffee flavor and for health reasons. Nice way to hydrate in a fancy way. Art work doesn't typically grab me but this art work did. If I had money, time, and comfortable accessibility to purchase, I would. I am sure I could order online and have shipped but I like to avoid shipping costs if I can. The realism and detail grab me in a way I like. The DC tunnel views that continue to beautify DC's respectable metro system show you that Jimmy is truly a local DC artist. It is reminiscent for me of Juniper Lane's music album cover Tightrope. I didn't notice this until after the fact but apparently when you buy art directly from here you get 15% of your purchase for more coffee here too. Wow. Why the missing star? This is kinda picky but if I wasn't looking or a foreigner, I could've accidentally added hand sanitizer to my coffee and well that's a big no no. Granted the bottle is labeled but I am not a fan of this being in the same area as the coffee add-ons. I know spacing is tight and maybe someone moved this bottle in this area but I don't get that sense and just think it's not a good setup. If this place wanted to expand , I think finding good NYC locations would be optimal as well. I am unsure if Philly would be good or not as an additional location as a coffee culture crowd. I would give it 0 stars if possible! I ordered "pandan" oat milk latte. I add quotes because this drink was devoid of any flavor whatsoever and came in an exceptionally small container for a whopping $7. The positive reviews for this place are genuinely shocking. Friend also ordered a different drink that had no flavor. A better alternative is Childhood cafe, one block over, that is the same price but the drinks are extremely flavorful. read more

I ended up going to Dua DC Coffee 3 times during my visit here and ended up ordering their coffee beans and shipping a couple of bags to my home. I have been to a good amount of coffee shops and was very surprised with how great the coffee was here. No bitterness, just a smooth coffee drink that kept me coming back for more. The space itself is medium sized, with a couple of tables and seating options. The staff took about 10 minutes probably to make the coffee. Overall, I would come back every time I visit DC for the taste of the coffee. It was 5/5 excellent! read more

We were excited to visit this spot having gone to Indonesia recently and because my husband spent several years living in Jakarta. We eyed several drinks on their Yelp page that caught our eye and walked our way over to start the day. We entered and were the only folks in the shop. We ordered our drinks and were surprised to see three staff hanging around but no one particularly friendly or welcoming. Our drinks were ready but no one said anything despite us standing to the side watching - they quietly placed them at the counter. We only realized a few minutes later that the drinks had been sitting there. My Pandan oat latte was good don't get me wrong! Just wished for a more warm and engaging experience. read more

On spot cortado, better coffee than many chains in the area. We've tried the Aren Latte and Kopi Su in the past, both different and memorable. Regret not getting two onion cheese empanadas instead of one, they are so good. Perfect pick me up with your 11 am coffee. We were coffee/cafe hopping and craving a bagel by our second stop, glad to find one here. Cheddar Jalapeno cream cheese has enough heat to complement the crunchy bagel. Enough seating inside. Ordering is made easy with the big screen menu right before you order at the counter. Service is quick and friendly, crowded for the sunday morninh but then it was the holiday weekend. read more

Stopped by late afternoon for a pick me up latte. Ended up ordering the kopi susu latte iced and a bakwan for a snack. The bakwan was ready immediately and is a fried fritter made with sweet corn. It was crispy but also quite greasy. I used a couple of paper napkins to get the oil out. The latte took a long time to be ready. When I went to inquire I was told they're working on it. After that it was ready in a minute or so. The latte was good and hit the spot. Ambiance wise, it's a small cafe, not too much seating but there are some tables and chairs outside. read more

I came to DUA on a particularly freezinggggg cold Saturday morning after Pilates. It's a super tight space, like you literally run into the line when you open the door. However, there is some seating that you can manage to snag. I had a hot london fog and a plain bagel with cream cheese. Each item was solid and the staff were super nice. Because of the line behind me, I didn't look over the menu as carefully as I'd planned. Next time, I'd love to try something different. Either way, I'll definitely come back! I'm not sure if it's my top spot to remotely work, but it'd be great as a pop-in coffee spot. read more

And this being an Indonesian spot makes my heart so happy!! Highly recommend their aren brown latte - it's really not too sweet at all (I'm the type that can't finish sweet drinks). It always makes me happy when a place with great Yelp reviews is right next to my hotel. I made my stop at DUA first thing on Friday morning, and it did not disappoint. It was pretty busy but I managed to get a seat. The coffee was delicious. I also tried their cheese and onion empanadas and some sweet pastries. Everything was super fresh and tasty. I stopped in again today and got the aren latte. It's a strong espresso with some molasses and whole milk. The pour was beautiful! Our drinks were prepared quickly. They have a few seating options for being a compact space. We sat in the back at a table, which is a little darker. It's very quiet in this shop, which we enjoyed. They do a solid business. Stopped by for some much needed fuel after walking around for 15827954 hours. The worker was super friendly and he greeted us as we walked in and he had a big warm smile on his face the whole time he interacted with us. We weren't too sure what we wanted so he gave us time to look over the menu. I ordered a hot Kopu Susu latte and he said it was one of their best sellers. I waited a few minutes for my drink and it was called out when ready at the counter. It was pretty busy and every table was taken both inside and out. We settled on the bench along the wall (inside) and it turned our to be pretty comfy. My drink was good. I added a bit of half and half and it made it so much better. Overall (5/5): We visited here back in late September. Really fast service and decent price for the coffee. Probably wouldn't work/study here though as it's a bit small and pretty busy + noisy but it could be a nice place to have a quick catch up with friends or pop in for a quick break. During my recent trip to DC, I decided to try Dua DC Coffe since it near my hotel. When I arrived, there wasn't much of a wait; however, when it was my turn to order I wasn't greeted or anything. I had to ask if I was supposed to place my order at a kiosk or if someone would take my order. The barista responded by stating, he would take my order; I just needed to give him a moment. I thought this interaction was a little strange, but finally placed my order for a small Kopi Susu with oatmilk. It was decent, but not my favorite. Shoutout to this Indonesian specialty coffee shop that's woman owned right in downtown DC. I popped in on a Saturday late morning and the vibes were high. They were playing all the 90's R&B hits and I was in there sanggging lol. I'd already had coffee for the day so I just ordered one of their pastries. It was a sweet croissant that was a classic Indonesian pastry but I don't remember the name. It was tasty. Service was quick and easy and there was plenty of seating throughout the shop. Looking for a quick start to the day downtown, I found this Indonesian coffee shop. It indeed had a menu of small food items that were distinctively Indonesian, and I tried what was basically a flat banana and chocolate spring roll. Not a coffee person, I tried a matcha with mango pieces in it. This is a nice combination, although on a practical level, trying to actually extricate a bunch of mango pieces from similarly sized pieces of ice was kind of a hassle. Popped into this place on the way back to our hotel in DC and the coffee was super delicious. I ordered a latte, a "campfiyah" (campfire) cookie, and a hibiscus iced tea. The hibiscus tea was lightly sweetened and tart, and was delicious. The campfire cookie contained chocolate and marshmallows. The staff was very friendly and welcoming as soon as you walked in. The place is pretty cute and quite small like most things are in the DC area however they do offer seating if you walk down the long corridor towards the back. It's a local's favorite and worth the wait! Cozy, warm-tone space with a lot of traditional Indonesian decor. The menu was interesting and the coffee was great. We went right after an Indonesian barista won the WBC and were impressed by the Indonesian coffee here. Normally I am not an Indonesian coffee fan as it tasted a bit too earthy or herby to me. But here, wow, they did a great job in introducing Indonesian coffee at different roasting levels and from different farms, and creating yummy drinks out of them. The lattes are nicely done even when they are so busy - I absolutely love that attitude! We highly recommend this place - probably the most interesting one to check out in DC. read more

Every time work leads to me being in DC, I always stop in at Dua and this morning was no exception. This is one of my favorite coffee spots. More often than not there is a line out the door and honestly well deserved. My go to drink is an iced kopi susu latte. It is always delicious and exactly what I need. Its a small but cozy place.
