The Coffee Bar was on my way back to my in-laws' apartment after running an errand in the area and I desperately needed an coffee. I had an iced Americano along with a slice of their banana bread and a raspberry muffin. The iced Americano was fantastic. The banana bread was good but I thought the muffin was a bit dry. Staff were very nice and prices were great. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town. read more

My first impression of the coffee bar aesthetically was pleasing. I had a great vibe and the employees did give good customer service with explain explaining to me what their menu consisted of. But that was about it. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and a cheddar biscuit. The latte was disappointing It tasted like milk with a hint of caffeine. One of my favorite cafes in DC, sporting delicious coffee, outstanding vibes, and super friendly staff! I've probably been to The Coffee Bar at least a dozen times already this year, and it continues to impress me each time with their attention to quality and crafting a relaxing, fun atmosphere for their guests. The coffee itself is just outstanding. The beans are rich, slightly nutty, and super smooth. The latte is phenomenal, but they also have one of the few coffees in DC that I'm willing to drink black (or in an americano). If you don't love coffee, they have other outstanding drinks -- in fact, the drink that made me first fall in love with The Coffee Bar was their matcha latte (which, admittedly, feels a bit odd to order at a place literally called The COFFEE Bar, but they're clearly able to deliver far more than just coffee). The staff is super friendly and the space is just gorgeous, all of which comes together to make The Coffee Bar a delightful and relaxing place to enjoy your cup of joe. They have a ton of outdoor seating, as well as a few tables and long counters / high tops inside, which are perfect for tapping away at your laptop or catching up over a warm beverage. If you're more in the mood for relaxing or just like to curl up with a book, they also have a few lovely cushioned chairs in the corners, including one of those lovely wicker egg-shaped chairs that makes you feel like you're sitting in a warm hug the entire time. Great coffee as well as matcha. The space is pretty big but it can get crowded, specially on the weekends.

Food: Not food, but the drinks are what keeps me coming back here whenever I can. It is just far enough to not bop in every single weekend, but a monthly little treat for myself. The chai is perfectly mixed and not too overpowering. Love that the dirty chai is balanced with the extra espresso. Wish oat milk was not an extra charge, but it is what it is. Service: Do not be worried about the line out of the door on a weekend morning. That is the way it is and they are always so fast. They are so quick with the drinks and have a to go service window if you have a pup. Ambiance The place does not have wifi so you really have to come with intention to chat with those around you and take in the neighborhood and the ambiance. Comfy couch is my go to, but sit outdoors in the lovely weather with a good book cannot be beat. read more

A solid local shop w fab foamed milk and vibes! I've been going here for about a decade now and love its location and vibes. It's on a corner of a residential neighborhood across from a school in a stereotypical old DC building. Theres's seating on the semi-bay windows, bar and a variety of seating inside, as well as ten small tables outside. I had a hot vanilla latte this trip paired with zucchini bread. The milk was foamed perfectly per usual and the drink wasn't too sweet. They use ceremony espresso beans, which is a very standard medium roast--not astringent or burnt, and an overall smooth crowd-pleaser. The zucchini bread was tender, moist, and had a great crumb. Perhaps it was the raisins, but overall it was a touch too sweet for me... But I would still eat it again lol! I overheard they get their baked goods from Hawthorne, a local wholesale bakery. Not sure when it happened, but this place always seems to be packed now. I always find a place to plunk down, nonetheless. They have their routine down and are able to pump our drinks quickly. I was in the area so I stopped by for coffee on Wed. Morning at 8:45. Small neighborhood place. Jazz softly playing in the background while lots of chatter's going on. If you see a line at the door, no worries. It moves quickly. I tried the House Blend. Nice. Not too strong for me. Dogs are tied up in the small, front courtyard. It's 2 min away from Garrison ES and 6 min away from 13th & U metro station. No parking spaces available. It's very tight in this residential neighborhood at this time of morning. Super close to the Airbnb I was staying at! It's my coworkers' favorite spot. Tons of outdoor seating too. Staff is super friendly and never seem stressed despite the long lines. It gets pretty busy around 8am on weekdays. People will already be on their laptops working. I came by a couple times. Tried the seasonal cardamom latte (only comes hot) and an iced vanilla latte. Delicious! Not strong on the espresso. My friends also enjoyed the chai, cappuccino, and lattes. Love it here! read more

OMG I love the coffee here and the truly affordable high quality here punches so far above its humble but cheerful and inviting row house charm. Truly a "neighborhood gem" across the street from an elementary school, with just enough isolation from the loud and busy storefront-packed U, FLorida, and 14th Streets. You can really enjoy the slower pace, the uncramped space, the quiet, your conversation and company, and I think that helps the coffee taste better - because you can be more relaxed and present in this more quiet, slowed-down ambience. Howevah! They need to get more creative with their walk up / online ordering. Good luck trying to get anyone's attention from the window (you can't enter with a non-service dog)... and I had to wait about 30 minutes for a small latte. I get it, they're often busy, but for godsakes, put an intercom with buzzer or a RING at the walk up window if you can't get your staff to routinely check the window. Trust me there IS a better, more creative way to do it. read more

As a Floridian and pure tourist, normally I wait to write reviews to collect my fullest thoughts on the product before writing. Well the "jury is out," and my opinion is very clear. TCB is amazing. This place has everything it needs to stand out as a local, cozy, and unique experience. From its location, exterior has spacious seating surrounded by tree's and quiet neighborhood roads. The interior, while a small space utilizes its room just enough to feel quaint and comfortable. As I sit on a couch, head leaning back into the couch - there is enough room for an individual to walk past, behind me, uninterrupted. The interior especially combines that homey experience with the modern with days gone metal decor with new pop of pink lights for those social media posts. Very ambient. From my experience, many coffee shops don't recommend straight black coffee - yet I sit here with the TCB Cold Brew Concentrate 24 Hour special (with an Option for 36 Hour special too). The roasting process must be rigorous as its flavor profile is so much - rich, bold, decadent, nutty, a Smokey after bit, coursing with caffeine through and through. I'd highly recommend when visiting. The cashier and the assistant (male and female; names to follow) were very helpful with considerations and opinions on what I should get. In the environment of DC, I wouldn't expect such customer service and care free as my experience has been opposite. Couldn't ask for better service as they took time even with a constant line behind me. Overall (I'm sorry long review) TCB has no right being this good when I hadn't heard of it before hand. No surprise I heard of this place from a local and as a tourist: couldn't be happier with the experience. The coffee is good, the indoor space has a lovely artsy vibe with high ceilings and cool knick knacks on the walls. The coffee prices are not cheap but not unusually high for the area. Much more of the seating is outdoors than indoors, so might not be the best spot for a rainy day. read more

The first thing I noticed walking inside was the lively atmosphere and customers ranging from students to young professionals. There was a fairly large, boisterous group that because of the small size of the place, made it a bit too loud to comfortably read, but other than that, it was great. I had a hazelnut latte while my boyfriend had a mocha. Both were great. They had your typical pastries but also a selection of biscotti that were really tasty! I genuinely appreciate their coffee, and it provides an excellent environment for both reading and engaging in conversations. The establishment offers both indoor and outdoor seating options. While their food selections may not be particularly inspiring, they are sufficient to meet basic needs. For that reason, I purchased a pastry from a nearby bakery and got a latte from the coffee bar. I settled in to enjoy my coffee and work while reading. However, halfway through my pastry and enjoying my latte, a staff member approached me to inform me that outside food is not permitted. She said she could pack my food for me, and then walked away and never came back. Which left me, to say the least, confused. While this policy is understandable, it would be beneficial to have it clearly posted somewhere prior to ordering so that patrons are aware. The targeted nature of this policy left me with a somewhat negative experience. Anyways Seylou has great pastries right down the road! read more

I love this place! Such a cute, cozy interior with incredible staff and great quality coffee drinks. The only drawback is the lack of seating. There is a decent amount of outdoor seating and some seats inside, but if you go on a nice day, good luck finding a place to sit. When I went, there was a line that filled up the place but despite that, it moved quickly and I got my drink after only 5 minutes or so of waiting! They know how to keep it moving. While there, I ordered a cappuccino and highly recommend it. It's strong, which I love! However, I tried to sit inside and do work (since all the outdoor seats were taken), but since it was so busy inside I had a hard time getting settled. So this is definitely a place to either stop in quickly to get coffee or come for fun and enjoy the outdoor space. I'll definitely try to come back in the Fall to enjoy the outdoor seating. read more

Writing an update as I realize my older review is dated and the reason you shouldn't review places after one visit. TCB is an awesome neighborhood coffee spot, has a great patio to hang at, accepts online ordering (now), so you can order and walk up to the window with your pups no issue. Note that if you order online, you have to check in at the window or they won't get your drink started, learned that the hard way once when they were slammed. They get very busy during peak times (aka weekend mornings), so I typically go somewhere else unless you're willing to wait. The iced latte with oat milk is one of my favorites in dc - simple but delicious. The food is fine, what you'd expect from a coffee shop offering a few small bites. read more

A lovely coffee shop in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood. I love taking a walk nearby and stopping in to grab a drink. Really great coffee options - especially the seasonal cardamom latte. It's very fragrant, mildly sweet, and feels like a warm hug on a chilly day. And yes, cardamom over pumpkin spice all the time. They have both indoor and outdoor seating.
