Finally a coffee roaster worth its salt in DC. I spend about 30% of my work weeks in DC and while many places have good coffee (how could you not with the energy it takes to run the town!) I have lamented that no truly great coffee shops exist. Enter: Lost Sock. This is their second location, tucked in a mostly residential area right around the corner from the NOMA metro stop. The interior is immaculately branded, bright, and welcoming. My typical order of a cappuccino was well executed by the talented barista with beans roasted locally and sustainably. Writing based just on their incredible coffee. I haven't been to their standalone cafe, but the coffee is really good. Not gonna lie. I'm a coffee snob, after living in California for over 15 years. The coffee here is just fantastic. I brew their beans at home and have had many friends comment just how good it tastes. The beans are fresh. I need to visit this primary cafe to see how the service and ambience adds up. But I just feel it will be great based off the hight quality of the product I've purchased at local markets. read more

Let me preface this by saying that we live in NYC, so we're used to amazing coffee shops. We tried a few coffee shops in NoMa, and this was definitely the best one. Went twice, and both times it was pretty good. Their nitro brew was strong (as it should be). Lattes are fine too. Given the lack of options in the area (and, quite frankly in D. This is my second time coming to this chain, but my first time trying out this spot. Keep in mind there is not much seating. Not an ideal spot to work or have a group of friends, maybe for a quick pick up and enjoy your coffee around the area. But yes, love getting coffee here and getting my coffee beans here. Saw this place on yelp and when I noticed it was right around the corner from our airbnb in DC. Came in at 830am on a Tuesday. Place was packed. There is only tight street parking so it is mostly accessible walking. Ambiance was relaxed and cool vibe. They don't offer tables to sit just two side bars which was full of people, so we tooked our coffee to go. They offer food like avocado toast, pastries and Argentian Empanadas. We got a Cortado, Latte and two Chicken Empanadas. Everything was delicious. High quality coffee bean. Empanadas were super tasty. There is nothing gluten free though for eating options. Everything was super fresh. This will be my place to go for breakfast while visiting Washington. read more

Would be five stars for the beans. The service and ambiance are lacking. In the past month of summer dc heat, they have been out of their cold brew by 8:30am. How is that even possible? The worst part is that, both times they happened, I had waited in line for 5-10 minutes without knowing this as they hadn't posted a sign or told people. I only was told when placing my order. I had to leave and rush to another coffee shop to make it to work on time. Also, the seating is unwelcoming. Lost Sock was walking distance from my hotel. So happy I checked it out. Ordered a flat white with vanilla and it was so good. I also got the Egsando sandwhich and it was delicious. I stopped by here with some friends and had a lovely mid-morning snack! The place was absolutely packed and we waited in line for a long time, so be prepared for that. The steak and cheese empanada with aji sauce was delicious and a good pick-me-up. I tasted my friend's jasmine latte and enjoyed that too. Service was friendly and fast, considering how busy it was. I really wanted to enjoy this neighborhood gem but was sadly disappointed. The atmosphere and service were great, but my coffee was a tad watered down. It also wasn't initially clear that horchata lattes served were ice only no hot alternative. The empanadas while small packed a flavorful punch especially the Argentinian beef. Came here and saw a line coming out of the door (usually a good sign). I ordered a jasmine flower matcha and was one of the best matcha lattes I've had in DC. Though the price is steep, it's a nice sweet treat to reward yourself with during these trying times. There isn't much indoor seating, so you're better off seating somewhere else. I'm thankful Lost Sock Roasters opened a second location in NoMa, which is closer to me than their Takoma location. It's only an 8 minute walk from the NoMa-Gallaudet metro station and tucked in a more residential area. The interior is spacious, but only there is only counter seating (8 stool seats facing the window) at this location. I camped around for 5-10 minutes and was able to get a seat afterwards, but the seating isn't the most comfortable. When I stopped by earlier yesterday afternoon, they weren't making pour overs (darn!), so I got a 12 oz. iced americano with single origin espresso for $4, which was pretty refreshing but nothing to write home about. The espresso notes leaned fruity but not overly so. I think from all my Lost Sock experiences, their lattes (and specialty) and small bites are the noteworthy items to order. Lost Sock also closes pretty early at 4 PM, and they're closed on Mondays. Overall, it's a good spot for grab-and-go, but not a sit down. They sell beans, tea leaves, and coffee-making equipment at this location as well. read more

If you love quality coffee, pop into Lost Sock Market & Cafe. Their original location is in Takoma, but this one has history. It's inside a 1923 corner store, which explains Lost Sock's little market inside, a nod to the building's legacy. Open Tuesday-Sunday from 8am to 6pm, Lost Sock roasts their own coffee and serves a full coffee menu. Their vanilla latte is my favorite in the city. It comes out perfect with no need for more cream or sugar. It's very smooth! They also have teas for non-coffee drinkers. Their food menu includes all day breakfast, including avocado toast, egg sandos, and five different kinds of empanadas using a family recipe of one of the owners. Any of the empanadas are worth getting. They come with a delicious sauce on the side. The space itself is an oasis with plants everywhere, large windows letting natural light in, and exposed brick. There aren't any tables or chairs inside, but a bar table to stand around are in both window areas. An outdoor patio is coming soon. There aren't any outlets inside, but there is a unisex restroom that is kept clean. read more

Staff was a little definitely busy and there is not a lot of room to sit and post up. I got an iced oat milk matcha with oat milk and early grey syrup. If it wasn't 8 dollars I would get it every day. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, very charming. The matcha tastes really nice. I won't dog points for it being busy or the price. New coffee shop in the Noma neighborhood. A quick walk for me which is nice! They have plenty of options and several specialty lattes. They have a good array of pastries, which are decent and affordable. I'm basic so I got an almond croissant and a regular latte. Both were good. I've also tried the breakfast empanada, which was good. Pretty small but it was good. The highlight for me is the service. Even though it has been extremely busy and packed, the service and baristas are always friendly and attentive. The space is on the small side with window bar seating, about 4 chairs, but no other seating inside or outside. I'm sure they are working on seating options because that would be a nice addition. They are closed on Mondays, which is disappointing but they're open the other 6 days. They also close at 2 or 3... which is a new trend with coffee shops. I'm not a fan because I love an afternoon/evening coffee but I get it. Highly recommend you check this spot out! read more

Stopped by on a Friday afternoon, and it was quite busy! There's not much seating at all. The place in general is small and just has some counter seating near the windows. I got a Jasmine Blossom Latte. I asked for it to be short on milk, and they gave it to me as is instead. I was a bit disappointed with that. The espresso taste was nice, however, I could barely taste the syrup. If it were short and had less milk, it would probably be better. read more

I've come by this coffee shop on a couple occasions while in town and I have nothing but positive things to say! Everything looks delicious on the menu and I can confidently say, that everything I have ordered deserves 5 stars. From the lattes to the simple shots of espresso to the empanadas, you will not be disappointed. During the warmer weather, they have outdoor seating in addition to their inside options. London fog with espresso - excellent flavor with a burst of caffeine! Jasmine latte with espresso - excellent and light flavor of jasmine tea. It's a great floral drink with a hint of sweetness in it that hooked me. Perfect drink for some morning scroll around the neighborhood! Empanadas are perfect and probably the best in DC! Mixed experience here. I visited for a bag of beans and a drink or a snack, but only left with the beans. The beans were great - I think this place is a great roaster - but they don't have a lot in their cafe. We came a month or so after when Lost Sock Roastered opened and the neighborhood came to rally, which made the whole cafe overwhelmingly crowded. We asked for a cold brew, which the barista made with ICE (defeating the purpose of the coffee) and two breakfast sandwiches (only one with meat additions), costing us altogether $40+ with tax and tip. Kind of ridiculously priced for a grab and go place that had NO seating, mediocre sandwiches, and incorrectly made coffee. I would pass on this place. read more

Lost Sock has hands down some of the best coffee in the DMV- but the vibes at the Noma location fall a little flat compared to Takoma Park. They have limited seating inside despite the large space but they do have some fun little goodies like Swedish candies for purchase alongside your coffee. read more

Yesterday i stopped in because I was craving matcha. Not only did I get the most delicious matcha ever, but they have a truly divinely delicious jasmine syrup. Amazing lattes and food! This is probably one of my favorite cafes now. We tried the following: - Jasmine blossom latte (iced, with oat milk) - delicious!!! Definitely a must-get. Lightly floral, sweet, and refreshing on a hot summer day - London fog red eye latte (iced, with oat milk) - delicious too. It has a very calming and soothing feel, thanks to the London fog tea. - Egglote sando - delightfully fluffy brioche, zesty & slightly spicy lime/cilantro/tajin spread, and huge portions. It is an incredibly novel and delicious egg sandwich, but I'd recommend splitting one with another person because otherwise it's a bit too much in one sitting. - Empanadas are seriously the bomb here. Spinach & feta was all right, but Argentinian chicken and Argentinian beef empanadas were incredible. The beef one is probably my favorite in the DC area, just in terms of crispy exterior and unique rich flavors inside. - Saku saku (black sesame) cookie - lightly sweet, with a soft crumbly/powdery texture (made with almond flour?). Pretty good but not amazed by it, and definitely not as good as my black sesame cookies :) read more

I went back twice in one week and tried their croissant bagel sandwich and their empanadas as well. I've tried this place multiple times now and it's just meh. It's not bad but it's not good. I've gotten hot & cold drinks and I can tell they're trying but they aren't executing. The food is not great & it's expensive for what you get. The employees seem bored/uninterested and in a hurry which is uncomfortable. Lost Sock is serving up some of the best coffee in DC. This small coffee shop is bustling every weekend. The prices are reasonable the drink menu is straightforward with a few specialties. I live just around the corner so I'm totally thrilled a new coffee shop has opened in the neighborhood! I've gone a couple times and gotten different drinks but I wanted to wait to review before I got food from them so I had the full picture. This morning I stopped in on my way to work to get the egg-lote sando (which is delicious) but my order got lost in the shuffle so I had to wait a bit longer. No problem at all, I already leave chronically early for work so that was never an issue, but the baristas were SO generously kind and offered to make me a drink on the house! I got the horchata with a shot of espresso and it was SCRUMPTIOUS!! There's a lot of coffees I like in DC, but this is definitely going in my top 5. The sandwich was also delicious, I loved the lime crema with the roasted corn and the egg was done perfectly.
