Croissant sandwhich with eggs, bacon and avocado
    Chris W.

Expensive with very poor service and disappointing coffee & food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Elegant setting filled with well dressed business people.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Let's start with the good. They have a great pastry selection. Ok...They claim to be coffee roasters, but the baristas were not knowledgeable. I was excited to see they offer POUR OVER brewed coffee. I asked what beans they offer, and was told: light, medium and dark. I was expecting single origin options. I asked if they had any single origin beans. Again, I was told, yes, light, medium or dark. I clarified again and asked, do you have Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. He said, yes, that is our medium roast. I really had to pull out this important information. I ordered and he didn't brew it properly. He kept taking long breaks, letting water empty out causing beans to cool below proper extraction temperature. The coffee didn't taste like freshly roasted pour over. It was a big disappointment. We dined in and waited a half hour to get our food and coffee. I ordered the CROISSANT SANDWHICH with eggs, bacon and avocado. It was tasty but very messy and I had to eat with fork and knife. It should be served open face My daughter ordered the FRITTATA WITH ZUCCHINI. She opted for egg white version. It was HUGE! You can easily share this. However it was bland and not very tasty. This was a very expensive breakfast. I had expected much better quality food and coffee for the money. Service was awful. It is quick if you order drip coffee and a premade pastry. Expect to wait if you select made-to-order items.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is beautiful! Inside is modern.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was actually surprised that their sweets were mostly cakes. I got an iced latte and some beans for home. The beans were freshly roasted in NYC. I can't fault them for that though I didn't think they tasted particularly fresh. With so many great local roasters, I'll stick closer to home in the future but I'm glad I gave this place a try.

I stumbled upon this cafe while walking to my conference. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I absolutely love how much seating area there was to get work done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a great options for lunch and breakfast. I ordered the chicken Caesar wrap with the honey oat latte and it was so divine! The staff was very nice as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I honestly loved the vibe of the coffee shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wish there was one in Orlando! I'll definitely come back when I visit dc again

Soup of the day - potato leek soup

Didn't get any drinks, just food. While it was incredibly expensive, most stuff in DC is. The muffin was good, but idk if it was worth the $7 something I paid for it. However, potato leek soup was delicious. Good ambiance and the workers were all super nice too. Knocked down to 4 stars just cause it was so expensive

This was ok. Went on a Saturday mid-morning. It wasn't empty but wasn't too full either. Most of the tables are large and had 1-2 people at each. Ambiance was nondescript nice. We tried coffee, pastries and breakfast. Coffee was fine but expensive- drip was over $5. Pastries were good. I was disappointed in the disposable cups and silverware for dine in orders. For breakfast I tried avocado toast and a breakfast sandwich. They were both pretty good quality with tons of avocado on them and a tasty side salad. Both were a bit pricey for what they were and took a long time to come to the table despite the many employees and relatively few patrons. WiFi didn't work for me without logging into a third party platform- no thanks Overall it satisfied the need at the time but unlikely that I will be back. Unsolicited advice for owner: replace disposable cups and silverware for reusable ones for dine in order.

Yes the prices are high, but the food and drinks hit every time and if you're just getting a drink, service is pretty quick. I visited this location multiple times this week and got various drinks, including the hot and cold version of the pistachio white mocha (so good). I also ordered the chicken Caesar wrap twice (moist, crunchy, big portion, makes for a great lunch). The chocolate chip cookie was good if you're a fan of that thick levain-style cookie. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Come for the espresso drinks, stay for the work-friendly WiFi.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

A mostly strong portal-moment at For Five Coffee Roasters Visited during a conference stay in Washington, DC, looking for a café where I could unplug and write. From walk-up to takeaway, this was a near-complete sensory shift. First Impressions & Ambience - [[HIGHLIGHT]]The exterior signage and outdoor seating invited me in; seating outside worked well for creative work.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food & Coffee - I ordered what I believe was the For Five Bacon Egg + Cheese (fresh-baked croissant, scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, harissa bacon) and a side salad, plus a specialty coffee with pistachio syrup ("Dubai Chocolate" variant). The sandwich was very good--flaky croissant, bold bacon, fresh greens on the side. The coffee was also very good. Service - This is where things faltered. The staff member taking my order seemed rushed and disengaged. Another diner overhead had the same reaction. The tone was curt, which felt discordant in an otherwise strong environment. Space & Flow - The café spaces were clean, well designed, and comfortable. When rain began, I packed up easily and caught my ride back to the hotel--so the follow-through was decent. Overall Experience - If the service element had matched the rest of the experience, I'd call this a full 'portal-crossing' (stepping into another world). As it stands: 4.5 stars. Highly recommend for food and coffee, with a note: the human connection needs work. Tip: Ask specifically about specialty syrups or off-menu drinks (e.g., pistachio syrup) if you're tempted, as the staff might not always present them clearly.

For Five was started by two friends from Queens, New York but I actually didn't hear about them until I stopped by this location in DC city center! I do appreciate their creative coffee drink options; I just wish the explanations were somewhere more prominent so people in line can see/decide before ordering. I went for the Gotham Mocha which was not bad. Espresso flavors were present but I wish the chocolate part was more prominent. The spanakopita-like pastry seemed to look thicker in the display case but it was still very well-seasoned with a good amount of spinach and dill. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good amount of space and tables both indoor and out door.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Its super close to the convention center and the nearby hotels.

Fabrizio was excellent on this casual slightly cooler Sunday morning. He explained to me that the orange? marmalade pound cake with mint and something else on top had no filling inside. Blueberry cake had nothing inside beside cake and more crème. It is picky of me but it is a way for me to not overindulge too. He and many others are expertly featured on this corny TV backdrop. I wish my Louie could be stronger on maple syrup and the cookie with more flavorful strawberry filling. The cookies here are made fresh. For those cookies not used up they should totally TooGoodToGo them away if they don't already. I was too full from food at other places and the day before . So I did not choose any food on this day. The clean bathroom is worth visiting just to visit lol.

I was very excited to try a matcha this morning. I paid 9 dollars. It was not good. I dislike writing poor reviews so maybe I'll come back for a pastry or coffee per the name suggestion. But I was told it was sweetened and I paid for a cup of milk.

Coffee is good. Variety of corr s and teas is good. I wish it tasted a little more fresh or unique. Just taste like plain coffee. Service is really good though. They have lots of pastry's and the food specials are also good for the mornings.

Coffee / Tea is perfect! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is good, and everything is clean and neat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Make sure you stop by!

    Blueberry scone

I love this cafe! Great service, delicious coffee and food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also loved the ambiance - modern and good vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Came here twice during my trip. The breakfast sandwich was so good and so was the blueberry scone.

They were playing bossa and jazz. I opted for the Aren latte and Indonesian beef rissole. Aren latte: 5/5 Latte with an in-house made Aren (palm sugar from West Java) for that hint of molasses and dark brown sugar This was one of my favorite coffees I've had in a while. There was a delicious coffee taste not overshadowed but rather enhanced by the smoky sweet taste of the Aren. I'll be thinking about this latte for a while. Indonesian beef rissole: 3/5 Batter-like skin rolled in breadcrumbs filled with savory ground halal beef & sautéed vegetables While I've never had this dish before, I googled pictures of what it should look like, and mine seemed to have significantly less meat than it should've. The taste was still delicious and seasoned and hearty, but it was mostly mush with some veggies and hardly any beef. While I thought the rissole was disappointing, I love the aren latte so much I'll still keep the 5 star review.

I tend to like sugar (too much) but try to drink black sometimes to try to appreciate the actual coffee flavor and for health reasons. Nice way to hydrate in a fancy way. Art work doesn't typically grab me but this art work did. If I had money, time, and comfortable accessibility to purchase, I would. I am sure I could order online and have shipped but I like to avoid shipping costs if I can. The realism and detail grab me in a way I like. The DC tunnel views that continue to beautify DC's respectable metro system show you that Jimmy is truly a local DC artist. It is reminiscent for me of Juniper Lane's music album cover Tightrope. I didn't notice this until after the fact but apparently when you buy art directly from here you get 15% of your purchase for more coffee here too. Wow. Why the missing star? This is kinda picky but if I wasn't looking or a foreigner, I could've accidentally added hand sanitizer to my coffee and well that's a big no no. Granted the bottle is labeled but I am not a fan of this being in the same area as the coffee add-ons. I know spacing is tight and maybe someone moved this bottle in this area but I don't get that sense and just think it's not a good setup. If this place wanted to expand , I think finding good NYC locations would be optimal as well. I am unsure if Philly would be good or not as an additional location as a coffee culture crowd. Of course I would still come back. It was worth the 15 min walk from the convention center in this hot August weather.

I'm in search of the best croissant in DC, so I regret not getting the regular croissant on this visit, but the chocolate croissant gave me an idea of what to expect. Buttery, flaky, crispy, with just the perfect amount of sweetness. The typical chocolate croissant was my personal favorite. When we asked what the most popular items were, we were surprised it wasn't the more classic bakery items, but we enjoyed what we tried. We want to go back soon to try some other items as well.
