OK, so high-level view: this is more than just a coffee shop. There's a full menu for food, fresh baked pastries, and a comfortable atmosphere with an outdoor patio for additional seating. Did I mention there's a fireplace? The service is truly unbelievable. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The barista made a recommendation for food and beverage, and the food came out very quickly after being ordered. They even were able to accommodate a special request to customize my meal. I've been drinking coffee regularly for over two decades. I come from a city where coffee inexplicably woven into the culture. That noted, I can assure you that this is highly above average product. Come for an energy boost, but stay for the espresso. This was definitely my favorite coffee shop that I visited during my extended stay in the DC area. I found the staff to be refreshingly considerate and the food to be both fresh and delicious. Did I mention there's a fireplace? For a while I assumed that this place was primarily coffee and maybe pastries. But boy was I wrong! After visiting one day for coffee I realized they had a breakfast and lunch menu so I visited a few more times to experience the food. I've probably gone at least 4-5 times so I've added photos from a few of those visits. Chicken ceasar wrap: soo good, balanced with dressing (I find some ceasar wraps to be under dressed but this one was perfect) and a small spring mix is included as well; Mexican Birria Grilled cheese; fire , I love that it comes with avocado on it. It's very flavorful and the dip didn't disappoint. Salmon bowl: salmon was cooked well, the rice was really good and their ranch. I appreciate that they do in house dressings. Great location, lovely ambiance, decent food... but the service was terrible. As soon as my plate was set down, I noticed a hair on it. When I pointed it out, the waiter seemed annoyed that I even mentioned it, even though it was obvious to everyone at the table. After quite a while, he brought back a new plate with no acknowledgment and no apology. Looking back, the hair wasn't even the worst part. The waiter had no manners, seemed like he hated his job, and was just rude. Mistakes happen, but how they're handled says a lot about a place. read more

Expensive with very poor service and disappointing coffee & food. Elegant setting filled with well dressed business people. Let's start with the good. They have a great pastry selection. Ok...They claim to be coffee roasters, but the baristas were not knowledgeable. I was excited to see they offer POUR OVER brewed coffee. I asked what beans they offer, and was told: light, medium and dark. I was expecting single origin options. I asked if they had any single origin beans. Again, I was told, yes, light, medium or dark. I clarified again and asked, do you have Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. He said, yes, that is our medium roast. I really had to pull out this important information. I ordered and he didn't brew it properly. He kept taking long breaks, letting water empty out causing beans to cool below proper extraction temperature. The coffee didn't taste like freshly roasted pour over. It was a big disappointment. We dined in and waited a half hour to get our food and coffee. I ordered the CROISSANT SANDWHICH with eggs, bacon and avocado. It was tasty but very messy and I had to eat with fork and knife. It should be served open face My daughter ordered the FRITTATA WITH ZUCCHINI. She opted for egg white version. It was HUGE! You can easily share this. However it was bland and not very tasty. This was a very expensive breakfast. I had expected much better quality food and coffee for the money. Service was awful. It is quick if you order drip coffee and a premade pastry. This place is beautiful! Inside is modern. I was actually surprised that their sweets were mostly cakes. I got an iced latte and some beans for home. The beans were freshly roasted in NYC. I can't fault them for that though I didn't think they tasted particularly fresh. As a barista myself..... Why is it so expensive yet poor quality? Got a cortado there and it's more like a macchiato - very foamy, steamed way too hot, espresso not dialed (or did not redial) so very bitter. The staff was chatting before a manager/ other staff noticed me to tell the register staff to ring me in... And they had the espresso prepared in the portafilter already before I order. So they did not ground the coffee fresh once order... Makes sense it's bitter. It's so low quality I'm in shock they get to charge it so much for a tiny cortado. I do appreciate their creative coffee drink options; I just wish the explanations were somewhere more prominent so people in line can see/decide before ordering. I went for the Gotham Mocha which was not bad. Espresso flavors were present but I wish the chocolate part was more prominent. The spanakopita-like pastry seemed to look thicker in the display case but it was still very well-seasoned with a good amount of spinach and dill. Fabrizio was excellent on this casual slightly cooler Sunday morning. He explained to me that the orange? marmalade pound cake with mint and something else on top had no filling inside. Blueberry cake had nothing inside beside cake and more crème. It is picky of me but it is a way for me to not overindulge too. He and many others are expertly featured on this corny TV backdrop. I wish my Louie could be stronger on maple syrup and the cookie with more flavorful strawberry filling. The cookies here are made fresh. For those cookies not used up they should totally TooGoodToGo them away if they don't already. I was too full from food at other places and the day before . So I did not choose any food on this day. I sat down at a big table with a cushioned chair and waited. They called me up for my latte. It could've used more espresso and pumpkin spice flavor, it just tasted like hot milk. When my sandwich was brought out to me, it looked delicious. It was served with a little side salad too. My friend's sandwich also looked great. My other friend said the coffee was "too bitter" (I'm not sure what this means) and exchanged it for a hot coco which she said was better. My croissant sandwich was very buttery. Like, dripping. I have to say the sign they have out the front advertising their matcha lavender honey latte did its job. I totally was convinced to stop by and try it. I didn't try any of the food but it had a few items on the menu that look really tasty. There's plenty of seats to choose and they also offer outdoor seating. The matcha latte was very good. You have the option to switch out your milk from the standard which is made with macadamia milk. They also have an oat milk option. Always love places with non dairy alternatives.
