Yes the prices are high, but the food and drinks hit every time and if you're just getting a drink, service is pretty quick. I visited this location multiple times this week and got various drinks, including the hot and cold version of the pistachio white mocha (so good). I also ordered the chicken Caesar wrap twice (moist, crunchy, big portion, makes for a great lunch). The chocolate chip cookie was good if you're a fan of that thick levain-style cookie. Come for the espresso drinks, stay for the work-friendly WiFi.

I was very excited to try a matcha this morning. I paid 9 dollars. It was not good. I dislike writing poor reviews so maybe I'll come back for a pastry or coffee per the name suggestion. But I was told it was sweetened and I paid for a cup of milk.

For Five was started by two friends from Queens, New York but I actually didn't hear about them until I stopped by this location in DC city center! I do appreciate their creative coffee drink options; I just wish the explanations were somewhere more prominent so people in line can see/decide before ordering. I went for the Gotham Mocha which was not bad. Espresso flavors were present but I wish the chocolate part was more prominent. The spanakopita-like pastry seemed to look thicker in the display case but it was still very well-seasoned with a good amount of spinach and dill. Good amount of space and tables both indoor and out door. Its super close to the convention center and the nearby hotels.

Fabrizio was excellent on this casual slightly cooler Sunday morning. He explained to me that the orange? marmalade pound cake with mint and something else on top had no filling inside. Blueberry cake had nothing inside beside cake and more crème. It is picky of me but it is a way for me to not overindulge too. He and many others are expertly featured on this corny TV backdrop. I wish my Louie could be stronger on maple syrup and the cookie with more flavorful strawberry filling. The cookies here are made fresh. For those cookies not used up they should totally TooGoodToGo them away if they don't already. I was too full from food at other places and the day before . So I did not choose any food on this day. The clean bathroom is worth visiting just to visit lol.

Coffee / Tea is perfect! The atmosphere is good, and everything is clean and neat. Make sure you stop by!

A mostly strong portal-moment at For Five Coffee Roasters Visited during a conference stay in Washington, DC, looking for a café where I could unplug and write. From walk-up to takeaway, this was a near-complete sensory shift. First Impressions & Ambience - The exterior signage and outdoor seating invited me in; seating outside worked well for creative work. Food & Coffee - I ordered what I believe was the For Five Bacon Egg + Cheese (fresh-baked croissant, scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, harissa bacon) and a side salad, plus a specialty coffee with pistachio syrup ("Dubai Chocolate" variant). The sandwich was very good--flaky croissant, bold bacon, fresh greens on the side. The coffee was also very good. Service - This is where things faltered. The staff member taking my order seemed rushed and disengaged. Another diner overhead had the same reaction. The tone was curt, which felt discordant in an otherwise strong environment. Space & Flow - The café spaces were clean, well designed, and comfortable. When rain began, I packed up easily and caught my ride back to the hotel--so the follow-through was decent. Overall Experience - If the service element had matched the rest of the experience, I'd call this a full 'portal-crossing' (stepping into another world). As it stands: 4.5 stars. Highly recommend for food and coffee, with a note: the human connection needs work. Tip: Ask specifically about specialty syrups or off-menu drinks (e.g., pistachio syrup) if you're tempted, as the staff might not always present them clearly.

Coffee is good. Variety of corr s and teas is good. I wish it tasted a little more fresh or unique. Just taste like plain coffee. Service is really good though. They have lots of pastry's and the food specials are also good for the mornings.

Came in on a really cold day and just wanted a warm cup of coffee and a treat. Got the seasonal lavender latte and two cookies -s'more's and the double chocolate. The coffee shop serves a variety of coffee and food aside from pastries. It was busy and the food looked and smelled amazing. It was pretty busy. But service was fast and enjoyable! I would def recommend for a treat yo self day!

Food was good. Do not be in a hurry. Service was pleasant. The pancakes are more like donuts.

First off, positives. I like the vibe of this place. Clean, open, modern, well-lit- all good things in a coffee shop. Comfy chairs and booths mean you could stay here for a long time chatting or working. I was doing the former! You arrive and order at the counter where an appetizing display of pastries awaits. I ordered a pumpkin spice latte, 16 oz. And the For Five Breakfast sandwich. $33!!! I had seen a different sandwich on the online menu that sounded delicious but I didn't see it available in the restaurant itself. No worries. I sat down at a big table with a cushioned chair and waited. They called me up for my latte. It could've used more espresso and pumpkin spice flavor, it just tasted like hot milk. When my sandwich was brought out to me, it looked delicious. It was served with a little side salad too. My friend's sandwich also looked great. My other friend said the coffee was "too bitter" (I'm not sure what this means) and exchanged it for a hot coco which she said was better. My croissant sandwich was very buttery. Like, dripping. It was tasty but again, dripping. The bacon was a standout for sure. I don't think I'd go back since it was pretty costly and not delicious enough to make me a regular. I also don't live here. Perhaps I'd return for a pastry however...

Cortado (too much foam) and very tasty overnight oats.

The espresso and milk flavors in the cortado were fine enough, but it was served with way too much dry foam - more like a mini cappuccino instead of a mini flat white.

Couldn't "find" online order despite receipt and credit card transaction. Food nowhere near worth the price. Back to Tatte.

All the pastry was delightfully flaky and appropriately filled. Pistachio croissant was dancing on the edge of being a bit too sweet but went very well with my latte. Totally inoffensive and wouldn't hesitate to get another espresso drink if we were grabbing pastries again. Nice quaint limited outdoor seating. We also got a mocha and a vanilla latte made with their house vanilla syrup. Both drinks were delicious. The housemaid vanilla are up in the vanilla latte had great flavor and was not overly sweet. They didn't have a variety of milk options or your coffee drinks. A small table outside in minimal seating inside makes this bakery best for takeout. Staff was friendly and efficient. As bonus points, the merch is super cute with the little wiener dog on it!

I enjoyed their popular MASCARPONE AND BERRIES for one flavor. It was really good. Creamy with a slight cream cheese like flavor. The fresh berries are a wonderful mix in. I paired this with ROASTED STRAWBERRY. They literally roast the strawberries before adding to the gelato. It tastes like real strawberries! It was phenominal, and my favorite of the two if I had to pick. My daughter ordered the PISTACHIO falvor, a traditional gelato offering. It was extra dense while creamy delicious. I sampled the OLIVE OIL soft serve. It tasted predominantly like vanilla. I wouldn't order this one. Expect a long line coming out of the storefront. It moves reasonably quick and is worth the wait! The staff made it a fun experience, and were not frazzled over the long line (at least didn't show it).

Most recently went as a party of 4 and got the crab beignets, beef arepa, masa gnocci, and parillada for two. Crab beignets were our favorite - perfectly crispy and great flavor. Parillada was a hearty entree and probably best for 2-3 people. This amount of food altogether was just nice. We probably could have ordered one more thing to be extra full. I don't typically get Latin American food but love all the flavors at this restaurant. Next time will try their breakfast menu!
