It was a Saturday afternoon with a nice crowd--people connecting, coming and going, great energy without feeling chaotic. And let me tell you... the holiday menu is soooo good. We ordered the peppermint mocha and the rainbow cookie latte--YUM and YUM. Both were festive and perfectly balanced. The best part? No upcharge for almond milk. That alone earns major points. As far as coffee chains go, I'm a big fan of Gregorys (and it's a regional chain, so still pretty localized). The coffee is solid and the food options are great (especially if you're vegan or gluten-free)--personally I recommend the spicy avo toast or the energy balls. On the way to one of our tours, I popped in and grabbed a latte from Gregory's as well as a blueberry scone. The service was quick and friendly, and the shop is cute and cozy. This one even had two birds flying around. It was a very cold day, so they probably snuck in. My latte was very delicious and complemented the scone nicely. The scone wasn't like a traditional scone however, it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It wasn't too sweet and had the perfect amount of blueberries and walnuts. The walnuts gave it a nice nutty flavor. Apparently, they have these scattered in various places, including one in Southern California, which I will have to visit when I am back home from DC . My mom and I stopped by for a quick bite before hitting the Smithsonian museum. The service was good; the baristas were nice and helpful. It was toasty and humid and we were walking everywhere in the DC area with caffeine withdrawal. Gregorys was the closest one to us. We've never seen a Gregorys but learned that it's a chain that's everywhere. Their salted caramel cold brew is so good. I've enjoyed all of my visits at this Gregorys location. It is a good change of pace from the larger, local chain coffee shops monopolizing the coffee market in Washington, D.C. Gregorys invests in high quality coffee and baked goods. The dining area of the coffee shop is upscale and inviting compared to your contemporary coffee shop. There's almost a feel of dine-in restaurant turned coffee shot. The customer service is always very friendly and in fact, I've been able to spark meaningful conversation with every barista I have encountered there. Order fulfillment has also been consistently quick and accurate. I appreciate that on every visit they always ask to warm the pastries I order. I like their cold brew coffee which is delicious. We came here twice on our one day trip to DC and had three different drinks altogether. All three were very good. The first was the blueberry dream which is one of their specials now with the choice of espresso or matcha (we picked matcha) with hints of blueberry and butter pecan. LOVED! Based on this first time experience with this location in Washington DC I really think that if you don't mind having mediocre cafe (in my case a cup of matcha latte) and food then by all means go check out this place. The other problem with this place is their customer service. It's too early for me to use the excuse of having a long work day for these employees but rudeness should never be in that scenario. This was a convenient breakfast option a few steps away from the Kimpton Monaco where I stayed. Ordered the vegan burrito and fall oat boy based on recs here on yelp. Service was good not great. The vegan burrito came with choice of salsa or guac so that was really nice to have. I chose the guac and it paired perfectly with the warm burrito. The burrito was not too big or small and well seasoned. They grilled the tortilla after wrapping it and that is a necessity for me! However I wasn't too impressed with the fall oat boy. It satisified the coffee craving but found it too milky for my taste. But any place that has oatmilk is awesome in my book! There was no line, the baristas greeted us promptly and took our order. I had an iced oat milk latte, my friend had the mango chili refresher, we liked both of them. I didn't try the food but the pastry and breakfast sandwich section looked very similar to Starbucks variety (however, the coffee was MUCH BETTER than Starbucks!) I tried Gregory's for the first time around the first week of February and have since returned over a dozen times and made a stop at a NY location while traveling! It's usually pretty busy/noisy in the mornings when I stop in, but that's highly expected for a coffee shop and I still don't have waits that have ever exceeded 7ish minutes. Favorite coffee: Hall and Oats. As a big fan of cinnamon and oat milk, this drink overs me all the things I love. However I've also heard stellar reviews for the Honey Badger and the Nu Brew (If you're a Nutella fan). Favorite food: the DMV breakfast sandwich! Yum yum yum. I gladly skip breakfast at home some mornings and opt for this delicious morning treat. Gregory's is a gem and they deserve all the stars.
