Good choice for coffee in NoMa! I was greeted soon after I entered and I quickly settled on a drip coffee with almond milk and an apple caramel pastry. The coffee was strong and smooth. The pastry added the right dose of sweetness. I appreciated the eclectic mix of jazz, funk, and r&b music playing during my visit. Simona is around the corner from my office. When I'm feeling like I want something premium this is where I come, it's a treat because they don't offer a variety of size options. That being said, the coffees, espressos and teas are definitely top notch the quality is superior to other coffee shops nearby. The baristas and chefs were so kind and accommodating to my dietary needs. They were happy to substitute ingredients for me and when the sandwich came out wrong the first time, they remade it right away. This used to be Sweet Science, and I liked that aesthetic better. This new cafe similarly offers distinctive beverages, and I tried something called a "carrot cake matcha". Matcha goes well with a lot of things, but it sometimes bombs, and I thought that this combination had the potential to fail. But I have to say, the spices and hint of carrot somehow worked quite well with the distinctively green flavor. It was, however, quite a small beverage for the price. The space is one where most people would be walking to work somewhere in the area, and it's a nice treat along the way but I wouldn't come a long way for that small of a beverage. read more

any café that plays Dorothy Ashby's "Afro Harping" is an immediate winner in my book Simona is nothing special (aside from playing some deep cuts now and again, playlist promptly switched to edm...) It is one of those places that will make you end up paying for a $8-10 beverage but I will say, it's so good. Nice cafes like this are a nice luxury to yourself, especially if you're coming to do work. Take in the clean design and open seating. It's really made me fall in love with the London Fog, the tea was so aromatic, not too sweet to bring out the floral notes, and the fog had a perfectly creamy and foamed oat milk. Simona is a small, hole in the wall in NOMA DC which makes it the perfect little café gem of Northeast. Intimate seating and a cute, quick serve station in the middle of the cafe equipped with sugar, to-go utensils, and dish bin. An atmosphere made for to eat in or grab and go. The service is quick being that there is only one person manning the cashier and making the drink orders. I am sure there are staff in the back to cook the made to order breakfast items. Arrived during our spring break week of 2026 (Early April) at 10:30 ish with no expectations based on other review. It was packed when we walked in, but everyone was moving. Employees were working their butts off, keeping the line moving, and our party of 3 ordered our brunch and a few breakfast items for the next day, totaling $60. Totally worth every penny. A really pleasant find in the NOMA area. In a kind of "blink and you miss it" stretch of street, this cute shop really has a lot to offer. I stepped in for what I intended to be a quick cup of coffee, and ended up staying a while. The bright shop was very comfortable and welcoming on even a bleak cloudy day. I am a fan of smaller menus that focus on doing certain things really well. Their aeropress coffee was very well made and ratioed, and the flavor was perfectly balanced. I was intrigued by their in-house blended cacao for the mochas, which was also incredibly good. The pastries and croissants are also very very good. There is a small menu for food if you want something a little more substantial. Staff was very friendly, and the shop definitely deserves a return visit. read more

They brew a full coffee menu, including seasonal lattes. My pumpkin brown sugar latte was excellent- creamy and flavorful. Their chocolate croissant is very soft and delicious! Great local coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating, good coffee, and good ambiance. I've dropped by here once a week/biweekly since I moved to the area and my vanilla lattes are always great, although a bit on the pricier side, and they have simple tasty pastries as well. They have rotating seasonal drinks but don't necessarily have a ton of different syrups (ex: hazelnut) if that's what you're looking for. It's slightly busier on the weekends but most of the times I've dropped in during the week there's always been seats available! Sweet Science is now Simona cafe in Noma and I went to check it out for some coffee on a Sunday morning. As this was my first time there, I am unclear if they have the same staff or new staff but the cashier seemed new to the system but was very nice and patient as I figured out what to order. For my order, I decided to try the drip coffee and a decaf almond milk lavender latte. I do not like overly sweet drinks and walked up as they were finishing my latte to mention this and they said they use a standard ounce (not pumps) in the drinks and let me taste to confirm if I liked it. I took a sip and immediately it was the sweetest drink I've ever had and terrible. They kindly made me a new latte with half or less sweetness and it was way better. Def recommend asking for less sweetener if ordering a flavored beverage! I would come back if I was walking around the neighborhood but it isn't really a comfy and cozy coffee shop you post up in beyond finishing your coffee and breakfast (although there is free WiFi). I'm sure this is by design but none of the chairs are cushioned or anything. Since I didn't try any food, I would also come back for that. read more

Wanted to love this place and give more stars, but they seem to be constantly understaffed on weekends, leading to VERY long wait times, even just for coffee, and the everything was very mediocre. Paid $15 for a focaccia, egg, cheese, and prosciutto breakfast sandwich - pricey considering it's a small coffee shop but if it had been good I wouldn't have minded. Unfortunately, nothing I had was very good. The latte i got was blah despite adding vanilla, and the breakfast sandwich was surprisingly bland and had an odd texture to the bread...the focaccia was too hard, either from toasting too long, not being fresh, or what I suspect was a combo of both. Staff was so overwhelmed that they didn't have time to be pleasant, and the person at the counter when I ordered was so flustered that the only greeting I received was a deer in the headlights look. Given the fact that there are MUCH better options nearby - like my beloved Pluma Bakery, which is consistently on point and delicious - I likely will not be returning. read more

Simona Cafe offers a nice variety of menu that includes coffee, wine, and food. They have another location out in Arlington, but this space is much larger with ample seating. I had the NOVA, which was an open-faced focaccia topped with smoked salmon, lemon ricotta, smokey red pepper salsa, pickled onions, and arugula - this was really tasty, and I really liked the creamy lemon ricotta as it added a nice freshness to it. I didn't mind the smokey red pepper salsa this time around, as I felt it complemented all the other toppings. Note that everything is made-to-order, so you may wait a few, depending on the queue. Staff were super friendly, kind, and welcoming! I wish I could give this spot a 4 and a half. Decor wise it is nice, very airy, lots of plants, and just a nice vibe! It is also very spacious with lots of nooks. The coffee was good. The Iced latte was smooth and delicious. I got the NOVA. The smoked salmon on it was good. The bread was delicious. The ricotta was creamy. I like how it is reminiscent of the classic bagel, lox, and cream cheese; hitting the red onion element with pickled red onion, the cheese element and the lemon with lemon ricotta but with some heat and adding some pizazz. For my taste, if it is open-faced I expected two pieces of bread. It was a little small for my taste/expectations. Recently opened following the Arlington location's move from Sweet Science to Simona. The coffee and options appear to be similar, with more options for food. We come for the espresso/lattes and the espresso tonic drinks - 5 stars for them. Espresso is very smooth, not bitter. They use crushed ice. 3-4 stars for the other stuff I've tried - the regular drip which tastes almost watery (but I'm not a big coffee drinker). Also had a breakfast focaccia sandwich which was decent but needs some tweaks especially at $14 - the focaccia is pretty thin and heated up gets a bit crispy, not as much of the pillowy focaccia feel. The scrambled eggs were overdone and could've benefitted from butter and salt. The guanciale was a paper thin slice that was barely discernible, the pepper salsa also didn't come through that much. Some minor updates and the sandwiches would benefit greatly read more

I love Simona in Arlington so was excited to get another chance to have it, this time in noma! I came early Wednesday morning about 30 minutes after they opened. It was pretty quiet so I decided to eat there. I got an iced coffee with milk and a chocolate croissant. The employees were so friendly and welcoming, and I love when cafes have actual plates and mugs for customers that eat there. My iced coffee was great and my chocolate croissant was delicious! So warm and soft. I like that each table has a little flower pot which has the Wi-Fi password listed. It makes it convenient to not get up to find the password at the counter or asking someone. Their fall specialty drinks looked good too, especially the brown sugar pumpkin. I hope to come back and try it before it's gone! read more
