green tea cream cake piece

located in a busy neighborhood and very busy inside. I had to try to move around people trying to get items from the bakery area and I had kids bumping into me several times when I was in line to pay. line went by quick. I didn't get any utensils or napkins in my to go order. I came in the afternoon on a weekend and they still had a good amount of selection. I thought the desserts and bakery items were ok. the bottom of one of the cakes I had was soggy. some of the bakery items tasted and felt over baked. They gave me one of their new glass cups for free for spending over $30

Like any other asian bakery expensive, sweet, and light. If you have a sweet tooth this is for you! Their donuts were filled to the brim and the cream was so light fluffy and flavorful!! Service is friendly but it's more like you browse and pick up what you want. The store's pretty small so there isn't too much seating but there's some outside and also Uwajimaya is very close by!

This is the only place/cafe in DC where I go every time I'm in the area. I'm not a big fan of the area surrounding it, but it is very accessible if you're visiting museums etc. It reminds me of my time in Korea. I like their matcha, and desserts include the custard and cream cheese breads. The ube latte was okay (just ube syrup with milk - so not worth the $ imo)

Inside Luna Food Hall in Chinatown. Lots of fresh pastries and cakes. We ordered 4*Kimchi Croquette: fried golden, tasted great. 4.5*Cheese Lake Mini: not overly sweet, subtle and mild, very good.

If you are a big fan of Korean Bakery items, check out this location. For a bakery, the place opens a bit late (11am, I believe). The location has other food options, a bar, and hang out place with comfy chair!

Inside of Luna Food Hall in Chinatown. Easy to miss if you're just walking around the area, signage for the food hall isn't huge. Once inside, you run straight into the bakery. They have a good assortment of pastries with a few varieties I hadn't seen in other locations. We got the Ube cream, the strawberry cream, lemon slice and red bean. All were delicious. The ube and strawberry cream ones were especially good...light, airy and the perfect amount of sweetness.

The dessert was delicious and so was the great quality of the tea that they use. I would be coming back here again. Thank you to the guy at the counter who help make my friend birthday special.

Love this as an affordable and acessible option for Asian style desserts. The flakey pastries may not be super crispy but pull on familiar and expirmental flavors in east asian bakery similar to Paris Baguette and 85 Degree chains alike. To have that option in DC and view the cake showcase and take a cake bag home is so cutesy. After trying the dessert, we found the cream to run a little chemically with the cake dry and lacking flavor. The cakes don't seem to be made to order or baked fresh. And after being in a long showcase all day, it takes on the flavor of the fridge it was in.

Inside Luna Hall inside Chinatown is a Tous Les Jours! It's quite a bit smaller than a free standing TLJ but still had a decent variety of pastries available. We picked out a flat croissant to try and it was crispy and the lightly sweet taste reminded me of a palmier which I liked!

In Luna food hall, decent selection as pictured. They do have cakes and some of the packaged goods they sell. Very neat and organized No labeled place to return your trays so I just left on a big counter by the bar. Workers seemed kinda shy that day I did enjoy the treats though big fan of this business

This was in the wall!! Cute!!

Good desserts. Interesting atmosphere. Had the chocolate cake and macarons. The macarons were 7/10. Enough to come back! Enjoyed our late night treat!!

I was super excited that TLJ opened in metropolitan DC area (finally!!!) and I went to Luna Hall to try it out today. They're probably sold out for a lot of items when I arrived at 6ish and there's no more TLJ puddings available. I tried their green tea cake which still seems a little frozen but tasty. I appreciate that their desserts aren't too sweet. I chatted with the staff and they told me that this opened 2-3 months ago. Would love to be back here to try out other stalls as well.

Yes yes and yes. We came here to get some fun treats to take back to some new friends while visiting the area. Walking in, I knew we picked well. There were so many options and not all typical! We tried the strawberry cake, orange cake, chocolate cake, earl grey macarons, salted caramel macaron and sponge cake. OMG. Everything was amazing. The strawberry cake was so light and fluffy but flavorful. The orange cake was a dream! Wish we tried the chocolate but we gave those away as gifts. Macarons were super flavorful which is awesome because I often find them boring. If we lived here, we would have a hard time going somewhere else. The prices are similar to home and we thought they'd cost way more. Super reasonable. Our cashier was quick and super sweet. Very cute place.

We were lucky enough to snag some goodies and got a bit of everything, we just weren't patient enough to wait to photograph everything. We did the Za'atar Gruyère Croissant, chocolate croissant, the cheese biscuit item they had (don't remember exact name) and the sfogliatelle. I'm in search of the best croissant in DC, so I regret not getting the regular croissant on this visit, but the chocolate croissant gave me an idea of what to expect. Buttery, flaky, crispy, with just the perfect amount of sweetness. The typical chocolate croissant was my personal favorite. When we asked what the most popular items were, we were surprised it wasn't the more classic bakery items, but we enjoyed what we tried. We want to go back soon to try some other items as well. My friend got a coffee and also enjoyed that! This is the perfect place to stop by for a treat if you make it in time!

I'm on a kick with trying new whole grains, wheat berries, etc. so this bakery was calling my name. I also loved that they offered some unique pastries that I hadn't seen elsewhere. We ended up picking out four of their pastries and coffee drinks to have breakfast on-site as a family. In our typical tradition, we cut everything into fourths and the whole family tries every pastry (everyone wins... ;). We thoroughly enjoyed both the savory and sweet (chocolate) options. I could see how this would be an acquired taste for some. I loved being able to peak into the kitchen to see the big oven and where all the magic happens. I also appreciated their sweet neighborhood location and the big windows offering lots of natural light. Overall, a positive and tasty experience.

That's when I stumbled onto Sharbat. It's a rather quaint and cute Azerbaijani bakery and as I was window shopping all the cakes and baklavas, someone across the counter says "let me know if you have any questions" and I look up to see an angelic beautiful woman (this does not affect my rating haha) but I guess I wasn't expecting to see that. Anyway, she went through explaining various pastries and had a couple Turkish ones as well. I went with a pistachio baklava and a slice of honey cake. Honestly, I wanted to try all the cakes and even though they say honey cake is their most popular, there were a few that looked more appetizing. However, slightly convinced by the one other customer there eating her slice of honey cake, I decided to try it. I've only had honey cake once before so I won't act like I know what's best but that time the layers were thinner which I prefer but I like how it wasn't overly sweet despite it being honey forward. The baklava was one of the best, but I probably say that about most baklavas.

But still I shunned the baklava, my friends' favorite but at the very top of my list of pastries I could do without. I find it papery and drenched in syrup - way too sweet! But now I suggest that Sharbat is a bakery for people who think they don't like baklava. My friends finally persuaded me to try some, and oh man is it good. It's nothing like the baklava I know. Perhaps because it is made Azerbaijani style - at the eastern end of Turkish culinary reach. It is more cakey and less sweet. But still plenty sweet, with a nice nutty crunch. I don't know whether to kiss or curse my friends for turning me on to this, but now I know. And now so do you.

With the temperatures getting colder out, no better time to try to become a pie fan. Almost immediately, I dug into the pie with a fork because the ooegy gooey of the pecan (see photo for proof) was calling to me. Nope, did not bother to cut it like a normal human, not even an ounce. When the fork cut through the pie, I knew I was in for a treat: it broke through the soft brown sugar filling and picked up the right amount of crust. YUM! It was sweet, it was indulgent, and it was crunchy because of the generous pecans on top. I finished just two days later... I mean, the 6" size means it's a personal pie, right?

They have both indoor and outdoor seating, so it's a great spot whether you're meeting friends or getting some work done. The pastry case also looked incredible, I had such a hard time choosing, and I'll definitely be back to try more. I ordered a matcha, and I really appreciated that it wasn't pre-sweetened. It was creamy, earthy, and let the matcha shine. If you like your matcha a little sweeter, I'd recommend adding their in-house pistachio syrup. The only small downside was that it seemed like they use matcha concentrate that's prepared in advance rather than whisking each drink fresh. It was still good, but I do prefer freshly whisked matcha. Even with that, I'd absolutely come back.
