For a non-local cafe option, Bluestone Lane is a reasonable option. This Aussie corner cafe has a full food and coffee menu and a few tables for meetings and eating. Staff aren't friendly, but they are efficient. If you visit, use the Metro as street parking can be harder to find.

Clean, casual, and cool. Cozy ambiance with plenty of seating after the morning rush. A great spot to meet up with coworkers to go over the day's business or catch up. I ordered the strawberry matcha cloud made with almond milk on my way to grab a bite for breakfast, but I was quite disappointed. The matcha was low quality and bitter. Just stick to the coffee, and you'll be satisfied.

On the basis of croissants, this one is quite buttery. It is both crunchy and flakey, something I look for in each assessment. The bread itself is light and soft. As far as fast food cafes go I would get this croissant again. Came in hardly under 5 dollars. That is unfortunately uncommon the woman at the counter asked me how I was doing, and I did the same. Very nice vibe inside but a bit too busy to post up and study.

A charming and clean café with friendly staff. Service was quick and efficient. The coffee was good, though not particularly special. There are plenty of tables and chairs if you'd like to sit down and enjoy your drink.

Avoid at all cost, health hazard establishment with birds flying around and shit stains everywhere (shown on the images). Staff couldnt care less that a bird poop dropped an inch away from our coffee. Will be reporting it to the health department.

This is a nice bluestone location downtown to grab coffee and a quick bite. I tried the latte, and the sunshine burrito which was a healthy breakfast burrito and also filling enough for a breakfast or brunch order. There are seating options indoor and you can just seat yourself. The service was good and our food didn't take too long before coming out. Definitely worth it if you're in the area.

I stopped by here for some coffee and food while my fiancé was running the rock n roll half-marathon. My iced vanilla latte was great and my salmon toast was a little underwhelming. It was very sour like they juiced a whole lemon on top of it but overall, it was really quick and easy!

Overall vibe: the place is lovely. Very esthetic and the decor seemed up with the times. Service: there was only one barista, unfortunately. I felt for him. Even with the long line, he was really nice and got our drinks in a good time. I got the iced matcha with almond milk. It was my first time so I didn't know it was very lightly sweetened. It was good but I'd ask for more sweetener next time. I'm so used to overly sweetened matcha lattes. I also got a ginger and pineapple just to go. It was good but a little bitter. I ended up adding some more pineapple to it and it balanced out.

The food is fresh, the portion sizes and prices are reasonable, and the ambiance is light and airy. Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to interact with the staff much as I placed my order online before I arrived. My drink was waiting for me upon arrival, but my food took a bit longer. While none of the food is entirely foreign to Americans (short of the Vegemite), it's clear that the menu is made up of health conscious options. This location is located directly across the street from an Metro Center Metro (Red/Orange/Blue/Silver lines) exit at the intersection of 13th and G Streets, NW.

Nice friendly staff, decent tasting food. Very loud ambiance (concrete floors will do that). No plates so had to put my $11 sandwich on a paper towel. Returned my cappuccino for a redo because they put cinnamon powder on it.

    Chai Latte

I really appreciate the convenience of this Bluestone Lane to the Metro Center station. The drinks are fairly consistent in quality, and the location is clean and brightly lit. However, the drinks are incredibly expensive. My go to chai with oat milk is over 7 dollars after tax, and a large size is only 16 oz (a medium is 12). Additionally, I have had to consistently wait 15-20 minutes for my beverage, although there are only a few other people in cue. I think they are quite understaffed, but waiting that long for one latte is a little extreme, especially because their entire ordering system is electronic and no one has to man the register. I hope this location improves their efficiency, because I do like coming here and could better justify the cost if the customer service was a bit better.

Their medium coffee is smaller and more expensive than any of the other coffee shops in this area. Also understaffed and poor service.

I've been on a shakshuka kick lately, so I opted for the the Sweet Potato Shakshuka, which is described as: Sweet Potato Curry, with Chickpeas and Sunny Eggs with a the chicken add-on - gotta get that protein in, after all. This was one of the most unique shakshukas I'd ever had... It literally tasted like a curry dish you might get at your local Indian restaurant, with a bit of a brunch flair to it. The curry itself had a wee bit of spice and was a bit sweet - but that could have been from the sweet potatoes. The chicken was served in a bowl on the side, which felt a bit... odd... I would've expected it to be incorporated into the main dish. It was kind of bland and a bit lukewarm, so I don't know that I'd order that again... but I would definitely order this again!

The Tikka dish with fried egg was tasty, but wish paneer or larger protein option was built-in (not an upcharge)! The creamy red Tikka curry sauce, caramelized onions, crispy brussel sprouts, and fried ere tasty and paired well, the dish felt incomplete and something was missing, maybe some paneer or naan? I paid $5 for a side of zesty naan topped with different spices and really wish it came with the dish just came with it. While I was tempted to order the falafel, I couldn't justify shelling out another $5 for another upcharge and spend $10 on them for a total of $26 for just an entree - when these 2 upcharges should have been included in the entree by default. Wish there were more fun vegetarian dishes on the menu. Might come back for drinks and to explore the menu!

To be honest, I almost skipped it entirely after seeing the line, but I'm glad I stuck it out. Although I couldn't make out the menu until my time to order I was proud of what I ended up with- the halawa honey, a smooth balanced coffee for the coffee lover seeking a sweet treat, and the smoked amba chicken pita. Since it was later in the day, they were out of some of their baked goods items. So we grabbed the bbq lamb shoulder wood-fired pita sandwich and shatta batata tots to share. The sandwich was big in size, so you can easily share it. My daughter and I shared it and we both liked how filling it was and the ingredients were fresh. The lamb was super tender and the combination of flavors were amazing. The tots were also seasoned well. It also came with a tasty creamy dipping sauce. I did wished they were cut in layers like a hasselback potato like I saw on the show. I thing texturally it would have been more interesting than the current tots which had chunky pieces of potato in squares. For the drinks my sister got the coconut cardamom and I got the peanut dalgona. The peanut dalgona drink is the drink to get. I loved the flavor profile and the creamy topping. The place was busy. At the end of the day reservations aren't required. It's sit where ever available. Overall we had a great time. We would come back again.

The cheese puffs and artichokes were mediocre, and the macarons were fine but nothing memorable. The tarte flambée was slightly below average. We ordered it medium rare, which our server specifically said was also the chef's recommendation, but it arrived somewhere between medium and medium well. More surprisingly, it was one of the toughest steaks I have ever eaten. At $49, that is unacceptable. The mashed potatoes were equally disappointing: bland, not buttery, and nothing like the rich French pommes purée I expected. We also ordered the carrots, but they never arrived. At least we were not charged for them. The crème brûlée was good, but a good crème brûlée could not redeem the meal. The service was attentive and polished. The restaurant was also nearly empty at 5 p.m. on a Friday, with only one other table occupied inside and a few people outside, which in hindsight may have been a warning sign. Beautiful room, decent service, deeply disappointing food. I would not return.

That said, a couple missteps that should not have occurred took this review into the negative realm. Let's start with the positive. This appears to be a great new addition to the neighborhood, and I hope it is supported. The appetizers were delicious and nicely presented. The pistachio feta with grilled pita was tasty and interesting. The halloumi with orange marmalade was as well. The hostess was engaging and friendly. The atmosphere was calming with a touch of casual refinement. One of the entrees was delicious (the scallops and grits). I'd order all three items mentioned so far, again. The negative. The second entree was the short rib. It was tender and.... Wow, way too salty. A shame because it was otherwise well cooked and nicely plated. But whoa. When the hostess came by, my girlfriend kindly said it was a bit salty. I "refined" her answer and said she was being nice, but it was very salty. The hostess went to note this for the kitchen (a positive for her), and because we are on the first floor outside the kitchen window I heard the conversation. The chef responded that he knew what had happened. Earlier when preparing the short rib someone (in his words) blasted it with salt. What this tells me is that they knew they'd made something close to inedible but served it anyway. At the end of our meal we had leftovers of the two apps and the short rib. We asked for a bit of extra pita to take home and they provided. Then the bill arrived. Not only was there no adjustment for the inedible short rib, but they charged us $2 for the pita. The least they could have done was just given us the pita. Ah well. Those two missteps; 1) serving a known and improperly prepared entree, and 2) not doing something to make good when reported, have led to this sadly negative review for a place that could and should have gotten a positive one. Hopefully someone there will see this, and the experience and review will be a learning opportunity that will help them thrive.
