Nice little cafe down in the national mall area. The employees and service was nice and quick. The restrooms were clean and large (perfect for a woman's needs) and they had water jug which was perfect as I like to sip water in between my latte to rinse my teeth. Stopped here for an afternoon pick-me-up before seeing the institutions nearby. I came in the hard way by going through the Reagan building. I wish I came in through the street area where you just have to walk downstairs. It was quite complicated. The interior is cozy and there were a handful of people chatting in there. I could see it as a study spot. It felt like a family-run business. It wasn't artisanal and it doesn't seem like a chain either. I got the Timgad latte which I think has dark chocolate? It came out in around 10 minutes. The coffee bar near the pick up area has spices like cinnamon so I sprinkled that in there. The drink was extremely hot so I sat down and opened the lid for a while, waiting for it to cool down before drinking. The drink woke me up a bit, but it was nothing to write home about nor anything special. The flavor was OK. I think I would not particularly recommend this spot, but it gets the job done. read more

Worst experience I have ever had in the food and drink industry. My girlfriend and I walked in on a cold day, seeking some warm drinks. It was quite small and a little bit unkempt, that should've been my first sign to walk out. I ordered a hot latte with sugar-free caramel and my girlfriend ordered a latte, iced with caramel. I headed to the bathroom while we waited to wash my hands, and this was another red flag. The bathroom was fine in appearance, but when I went to turn on the sink to wash my hands the knob fell straight off. I was completely shocked. I washed my hands and walked out to my girlfriend, who was very very agitated because the baristas were not wearing gloves. In fact, one of them was even touching the cash register and people's cash, and then going to make drinks. Appalling! I was then informed after taking a few sips of my drink that it (along with the drinks of pretty much everyone else in that café) had been touched by one of the hands of one of the gloveless baristas. The interior as a whole was very filthy and messy. With that, I immediately threw my drink away and my girlfriend did the same. $13 wasted and we will never be going back. read more

Super friendly smiles as soon as we walked in. Staff greeted us immediately which added to the homey vibe inside. We got the mocha the chocolate croissant and blueberry muffin. My boyfriend got the mocha and he doesn't really like coffee but he enjoyed it a lot. I got a blueberry muffin and I thought it was very good and moist. The chocolate croissant was pretty good it was larger than I expected. However they don't seem to heat it up for you which I would recommend asking them too. I originally didn't think that they had a heater but I realized that they did have a toaster to warm up food but they didn't offer to. Overall a pretty good experience! read more

Fresh vanilla chai tea latte with a stronger (in a good way) flavor than the big chain stores. Service was friendly and they did a good job keeping up with orders even though they was a massive influx that they probably didn't expect on a weekday morning. The location looks comfortable if you're settling in with your drink and a few folks were enjoying their beverages in the store but most were nearby office drones and got it to go. It's a little expensive (welcome to DC) but not horribly overpriced. I wouldn't make a special trip here but I'll come back if I'm in the area. read more

Although their espresso could use some dialing, the coffee shop's ambiance and friendliness of staff members is unparalleled. I normally get their dulce de leche Cafe Timgad, which is a sweet and silky milk coffee. The coffee is normally $6-7. They also carry sandwiches, baked goods, tea, juices, etc. with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. It's a few steps away from the Federal Triangle metro stop and close to many restaurants. I am absolutely appalled, disgusted, and concerned after attempting to get coffee in this establishment. I truly have never seen anything like this in the food industry. What a shame. I walked in with my girlfriend after a long day of traveling around D.C., hoping to get a refreshment. Let's just say I quickly got over my fatigue after I had to lock in from shock to see what was going on. We walk in, and it was absolutely filthy. Tables right next to the bathroom, a sofa with ripped fabric, floors covered in dirt, and everything in between. My girlfriend stopped by the bathroom, which had a bad smell and a broken faucet. While she was in the bathroom, I was watching something you absolutely don't want to see happen in any restaurant. The two gloveless baristas were handling cash and make drinks simultaneously, without putting on gloves or washing their hands. A big no-no. They were touching every single drink, with their thumbs going into the liquid, not just the cup. I was so disappointed and disgusted, and completely lost my appetite. I told my girlfriend that I was uncomfortable drinking the coffee, and we ended up throwing them away. Waste of money but save yourself the viral infections. Health code violations all around. Strolling around DC and need a pick me up cup of coffee - Timgad Cafe will fit the bill. The is located next to the children's museum located on the lower level of above the street. Follow the signs; you won't miss it. I ordered an iced latte and it was perfect. I didn't need to doctor it by adding sugar or anything else to it. It came with caramel and lite ice which was perfect. I definitely got my money's worth. The grounds weren't too strong or lite. The flavor was refreshing (yes, even for coffee). The staff is friendly and welcoming. They have other items on the menu however the fact I just ate, I didn't have the pleasure to try anything else. The latte was a huge win, though. The ambience is nice and cozy; even for a cafe in the city. They have a lot of branded swag that is also appealing. I'll definitely visit again when I'm in the area. Best coffee of the trip to DC so if going for coffee this is easily a 5. The ambiance is also fantastic. We were cold and a little excited when we saw they have hot slow-cooked soups and it sure was cold on this day so we got excited. It mentioned those soups several places, but the staff basically said they don't have it and sounded like it is not consistent. There was also some uncomfortable banter between some of the staff. After parking in the Ronald Reagan Building Parking Lot, I moseyed on over to Timgad Cafe since it's connected. The security guards said it's the best spot to grab coffee in the area. I got myself: 1) Toasted Parma Sandwich (Prosciutto, Genoa Salami, Hot Capicola, Provolone Cheese, Roasted Red Pepper, Tomato and Onion on a Fresh Baguette) 2) Cortado (espresso with a small amount of steamed milk) The sandwich was yummy but I didn't really like the Cortado. I should've just gotten some black drip coffee or an Americano. In a city with so many coffee spots, where can you just bask in good vibes? Timgad Cafe! Normally, I hold on writing reviews until I've gone a few times but the visit was that enjoyable! How so? Read on... When my friend and I arrived, it was pretty full yet didn't feel crowded or rushed. We were greeted and placed our orders. If you opt for a pastry, it is self-serve which is probably convenient in a rush. It also probably means it is not a hot pastry (perhaps in the morning?) I had an apple fritter which was not colossal (yay!) and was tasty. For beverage and in continuing my love of coffee art, I ordered a latte. While the taste wasn't my favorite, I loved the art! All about the latte art ;-) So what else rocked? Service, speed of beverage prep, consistency of coffee art and the vibes, yes calm vibes! Good place for lunch and coffee just off the mall. Had the soup of the day and a baguette which, along with the house mocha made a great lunch with a colleague. They have both inside and outside seating available. I'd suggest coming early or late for lunch. The line was short at 11:30, but had gotten much longer as we moved into core lunch hours. My coworkers raved about this place, however, I was left unimpressed. I've been here twice, just to be able to give a fair assessment. The first time, I ordered one of the special lattes they had written on the board, an iced almond joy latte. It sounded delicious. When the cashier took my order I asked her what type of milks they offered. She answered my question with the same question I asked her. I asked the question again. She then started naming the different type of milks (whole, skim, almond, etc) extremely painfully slow, as if she wad mocking me and trying to be funny. One of the other workers then bursts out laughing and they continue laughing in my face. I guess I missed the joke. Even though I felt awkward and uncomfortable at this point, I still paid for my drink anyway and proceeded to be blown away by an amazing latte, especially for around $7 with tax (yikes). The drink ended up being a serious disappointment, it tasted watered down and like it was basically full of syrup. It was not balanced at all. I drink a total of about 5 sips and ended up just throwing the rest on the trash. $7 down the drain. Terrible latte, terrible attitudes. I'm really disappointed since it seems like other people have good experiences here and this location is extremely convenient to my office. read more

It was refreshing but I wish the espresso was stronger since the vanilla and oatmilk were overpowering. It was also really expensive for a medium latte. We wanted to have better quality Coffee than what's usually served at the Smithsonian Museums. We found Timgad on Yelp. Most security we've been subjected to in order to partake a cup of Coffee. Located in a building where the US Customs and Border Patrol is headquartered- hence the security scrutiny. It's located on the concourse level - downstairs from street level (look for the street level sign with an arrow pointing to the stairs). I ordered a Latte. Reasonably priced at $4. Good Coffee. Much better Coffee than what we've gotten at the Smithsonian. Nice relaxing space to enjoy our Coffee. Well worth the 0.5 mile walk and the security process to get to. Timgad has been hit or miss for me. Each experience never like the previous one. I'm not sure if my visits are too sporadic, but I never have a consistent experience, which mostly keeps me grabbing coffee/breakfast elsewhere. One day I'll go in and the service, coffee, and breakfast options are great, another day not so much. Perhaps the issue is quality control? My most recent experience was a good one. I was greeted at the register, and my pumpkin latte was very good. On last visit, I purchase a coffee cake and it was terrible, very dry. A visit prior to that, and the coffee cake was amazing! I love the eclectic look inside, music is good, and I know they have live events, which makes for a packed cafe. If my experiences were more reliable, I'd visit more often. read more

I stopped in yesterday morning with a colleague for a working coffee meeting. I was really thrown off by the rudeness of the person who took our order. She never smiled, was impatient, and spoke disrespectfully, especially to my colleague who was visiting the cafe for the first time. This individual had been at this cafe since before the pandemic and I do not recall her being so unpleasant. I felt bad at my colleague's treatment. I enjoyed my visits here in the past and was pleased that it had reopened. Now, I'm not so keen as I was before. This place is always buzzing with patrons. I like the feel of the inside with the eclectic decor and coffee house vibes. It's hard to really say what's good here because my experiences have been very hit or miss. The one thing I can get here that seems to be good no matter what is a chai tea latte, but it's hard to mess that up. The other hot beverages I have gotten here were not rememberable at best and I have yet to get a food item that I really enjoyed. I tried the coffee cake on my last visit and it was very dry and kind of tasteless. It was huge so portions is definitely not an issue here but that doesn't help when you aren't longing for more after the first bite. It's so close to where I work so I would love to love this place but so far I have been unimpressed. Rendezvous with a fine cup of coffee! With a few chairs and tables outside, there was a larger seating arrangement inside, conducive for one to cozy up with one's preferred choice of java. There were some couches, some chairs, some simpler chairs by the window, some more elaborate tables; I chose a bar stool by the corner, facing the window. I, then ordered a cup of my regular cappuccino, and there it was - a piping hot cup of my stimulant decorated with latte art. The coffee was velvety smooth, rich with a perfect balance of aromatic beans and bitterness of a dark-roast; the body was mildly-acidic and it left a nutty aftertaste which bodes well with my taste-buds. I can safely say that this coffee is one of my favourites in the city (so far). read more

How to describe Timgad Cafe? Friendly and comfortable. From the first visit, I was greeted with a pleasant smile. They are eager to engage and compliment, and their ease and tropical music flows through me removing layers of stress from the hustle and bustle of DC business. It is a small café with about 20 indoor seats. Outdoor sitting area has more tables and chairs, but it offers too little insulation from cold DC winter these days. Timgad is always filled with people, drinking coffee and latte, having light meals, and working on laptops. It is perfect for quick meals, light snacks, and robust coffee. I usually take the bus to work; today I took the metro. Upon walking towards the Ronald Reagan Building, I smelled coffee and walked in this direction. Compass coffee is served and served with a smile. Great customer service. Nice quaint atmosphere with fantastic music piping out of the speakers. I ordered my usual coffee with caramel syrup. For a light roast coffee, the flavor was quite bold. Yet not overpowering or muddy flavor. Plenty of pastries in the pastry case. I did not have the opportunity to try any. Maybe next time..... So I was in town on a Black College Tour and we stopped in DC so that the kids could tour the nation's capital. After a long flight and non stop 20 hours of moving and monitoring 15-18 year olds I was in desperate need of a pick me up. I got on yelp to locate the closest coffee shop. To my delight the shop was around the corner from where the bus parked. At the bottom of the Regan building sat this busy little coffe shop. I entered with anxious anticipation hopeing that my needs would be met. I what I got when I entered was a whole cultural experience I needed to boost my spirits. The shop was bright and vibrant with multi colored cultural fabrics. The aroma of the coffee blend hit my nose and I was hooked. The staff was pleasant and patient with me and guided me through the menu. Although they were extremely busy, the staff was nice and talked me through the offerings. I ended up with a basic Timgad Latte. I dont remember anything specific about what I ordered. However, it was the best tasting latte I have ever have. I started this review in march of 2018 and here I sit in August of 2020 to finish this review and the statement I made prior stands to this day. Hopefully the Coronavirus cloud will dissipate and I will be able to fly back to DC. I promise the first place I go when I land is Timgad Cafe. read more

Fantastic local spot close to the mall! This was our first dining experience of the trip and it hit the spot. The walk from the mall to the cafe was filled with beautiful sights as well. As a craft coffee fan, I usually have low expectations for coffee when I'm traveling since you never know what you're going to get. My cappuccino exceeded my expectations! Perfectly frothed milk and taste. A friend of mine and I had the veggie sandwich and agreed that it was one of the best sandwiches we've had in awhile. It was served hot with fresh veggies, hummus and a delightful bread. Another friend had a the Parma and loved it as well! Every morning TC (we are close like that...you know..."hanging at TC's") greets me with a wonderful staff, who remember my order, and makes every cup with love (I swear I can taste the love)! Even as the lines stack up with caffeine fiends, the TC crew keep the pace moving, never sniping at customers, patiently finding that person who ordered the double-half-caff that isn't picking up/or can't hear above the din of the many work-meetings happening in the small but highly functional space. TCs is where (probably) thousands of staff who work in and around the hidden gem go to refuel, but also gossip, work, or escape for a beat. With sandwiches, oatmeal, and snack packs, it's also a spot to grab a small bite before your Segs in the City tour next door. If you are into supporting small and local, pick up a reusable cup (they'll charge you for the price of a small if you BYO cup), buy some Compass Coffee, or maybe some table coasters imported from North Africa, chillax to some Vieux Fraka Toure, and gulp down some of the most love-infused lattes this side of Pennsylvania Ave. read more

I recommend the iced coconut latte and strawberry mocha latte. Unfortunately, there isn't a great selection of baked goods or foods, although the sandwiches will suffice if you're really hungry when you come in. I've come here a few times to study and appreciate the warm ambiance, international flair, and consistent wifi. It's also great that the cafe is right next to the metro! An amazing little gem for the weary traveler in need of coffee, a snack, or lunch in a relaxed, friendly setting. Named for a lost Roman city in Algeria. Located in a lower level courtyard under the post office building in the federal triangle, with indoor and outdoor seating. We followed the signs they have placed at street level that made finding them easy. Friendly efficient staff and the most delicious coffee beverages ever! We had maciattos done right, not swimming in milk like that other place with the mermaids. So creamy and decorative, we almost hated to spoil them by drinking them. We weren't looking for a full meal but I'm betting the carrot ginger soup, sandwiches and other goodies were just as satisfying. The inviting coffee was equaled by the friendly staff who were very helpful to tourists finding their way around, and just plain nice to hang out with during a break from the busy streets above.
