When you travel for a few days, a damn good coffeehouse is a necessity, and for that Compass Coffee absolutely delivered good java that I loved a latte! On the Philly coffee scale, I compare it to La Colombe since Compass was widespread throughout several parts of the DC area. But I also enjoyed how it catered to locals with a huge take-a-book/leave-a-book library, and provided a vast amount of seating options to chill and get work done in including a couple of outdoor benches. I also appreciated the good number of discount coupons that they provided through email. For my wake-up routine in DC I was craving some good lattes! And I loved that Compass had fall lattes that went beyond the typical pumpkin spice. While I didn't fully appreciate the apple cider donut latte, it also might have been my fault for making it a necessary red eye for my after-beer-fest Sunday. But I did love their maple latte, and their honey turmeric latte was an absolute revelation! With lattes like those, I wish I could make it my regular morning routine! read more

Delicious coffee with plenty of options. The cold brew only comes in nitro, but other than that the coffee options are great. The menu seems to be only on the TVs, so I didn't realize that they had breakfast sandwiches. The bacon egg and cheese was good. I stopped into Compass Coffee to grab a coffee in the afternoon and it was one of least welcoming experiences I've ever had at a coffee shop. I approached the counter and the barista just stared at me. Didn't acknowledge me at all, barely made eye contact. When I asked if I could order, she just shrugged and stared at me. After a little bit of awkward staring, she finally asked what I wanted. I had a question about the chai latte and she made it seem like I was asking the weirdest question in the world. I had one of their specialty cold brews and it was really just OK. Nothing to write home about and actually kind of disappointing. I often visit this location if I'm going to work. But I first stopped in because I wasn't close to a Starbucks one day and wanted to get a matcha latte lol. When I entered I was immediately greeted with a smile and hello. I was happy because you don't get that a lot especially early in the morning. So, I ordered a matcha latte and I begin to ask about their matcha lemonade and giving the guy with the dreads a spill about my obsession with matcha lemonade . I suggested he should try this other place for matcha lemonade as well and as I was tell him where it was located he told me he's always in the area. Fast forward because I haven't been here in about 3 weeks. I went to order my normal drink matcha latte ICED and proceeded to ask the same guy if he checked out the place I told him to check out but in the midst of me asking him a young lady who works there spoke up and said she knew about the spot I was talking about. Immediately I begin to ask if they heard of the baked bear and so on . Yes they both did and we had an amazing conversation around that. Now today I went and got my drink I was greeted like always but I was so excited when the guy half way remembered me ordered . What started talking about "National Ice Cream Day" this Sunday and other things lol Anyways they're always nice, very pleasant here. I feel loved entering this establishment and it's always nice and clean too. My drink is always delicious. Stopped by here and it was pretty hoppin' with empty seats being tough to find. Tried their caramel macchiato and some power non-sweet covered fruit. The carob covered fruit (?) was not my fav, but kept them none-the-less in case of a gotta eat something moment. Months later I saw them and sure enough they were perfect to help me out with a starvation situation. Nothing special so 3 starts to start. Been here only once. I'm not sure what happened to Compass Coffee...I used to go to Compass Coffee every single time I came to DC, which was often. The Matcha Latte pre-pandemic (early 2019) was only $3.50. It was $6.15 today!!! Furthermore, the matcha was diluted and tasted awful. Looks like the menu expanded too, we wanted to order a couple of vanilla lattes which was off the menu. The barista said they still sell the vanilla lattes but it's just not on the menu. I appreciate the effort to be sustainable but the compostable straws snap as you remove the paper. Super fragile! Literally would rather go to McDonald's. The only thing good here is their seating and Wi-Fi. Compass is the epitome establishment of overpriced for crappy food and drinks that monopolizes on a lack of other options. I work quite close, and unfortunately coworkers always suggest compass- so somehow I find myself here too often. But at least I am reputable when I say that my dislike for this establishment has not changed over dozens of times I've been. It was definitely nicer inside compared to the temperature outside, and not surprisingly, I wasn't the only person with the same thought. The place was full and there were only two tables available. This place is a medium sized cafe, and they had the same round tables and hard chairs set-up all around. They also had a few tables outside, but I passed on that idea. I've been to a couple other places around the city where they have actual sofas and cushioned chairs, bit that wasn't the case here. I also really like the way the cafe is set-up and its for sure a great place to do work or have a small get together. The manager, Malcolm was amazing. He was so kind and energetic. I genuinely thought he was the owner because he hyped up this place so much before we could even come in (Which we were planning to do anyway) He was outside, taking selfies and handing out espresso shots Free samples. Everything in the store was so clean and the menu was so nicely put together and while it was hard to make a choice on what to get because everything looked amazing I don't regret What I got at all it was amazing. It was a turmeric tea sort of drink, and my friend got something inspired by the cherry blossoms. Compass Café is doing something not many other cafés are doing Which is being original they don't just serve coffee with milk. They have so many unique flavors and combinations to try! The only thing I didn't like was that there wasn't a compass café in Richmond, Virginia, so that I could go every day but maybe my wallet will thank me for that hahah! read more

I've been here before and the coffee was great, but today was a deal breaker. I don't enjoy giving negative reviews but this is a safety hazard. The barista must have been upset that there were flies in the cafe, because she was spraying Raid bug spray all over the customer water serving station. I don't mean a quick spritz. I mean emptying the damn Raid bottle. She sprayed it all. The faucet, drinking glasses, everything was completely drenched. Then she just went back to serving folks like nothing happened. Absolutely loved this coffee shop! I got one of their special drinks, the almond butter latte with oat milk and it was so good we went back the next day and ordered it again. Their other specialty drinks also sounded amazing (they had a lavender latte which was tempting to try!) but ultimately I had to get that latte again because it was so delicious - the flavor and the coffee inside of it. They also had a bowl of espresso pods near the register for you to take home and try the espresso they sell in house. I got one of both flavors and they were both so delicious that I might have my brother send me some! I've never been to a coffee shop where you were able to leave with a sample to try at home but I think it was a great idea to sample their amazing coffee. I live in New York but any time I visit my brother in DC, I will definitely be stopping by to grab coffee from Compass Coffee! read more
