Cute hole in the wall spot with delicious coffee and mouth watering food. Despite being a tiny place and packed on a Saturday morning, service was speedy. Flat white was perfect. Breakfast burrito looks simple but it was absolutely divine, with queso fresco, scrambled eggs, guac and salsa. My avocado toast was served on French bread of the perfect thickness, a GENEROUS helping of fresh avocado, pickled onions and tomatoes. Fried egg on top (for extra $$) sealed the deal, especially after a night out celebrating a friend's wedding, this breakfast spot cured my hangover. read more

Stopped into Emissary to get some work done while I had a break from teaching yoga classes. Here's everything I loved and didn't below ... + loved the empanadas, highly recommend the beef ones. The sauce that comes with it is delicious and they're only $4 + WiFi was strong and easy to get into + there was seating both inside and outside of the cafe + the team quickly remade my chai because I didn't know that they put whole milk in all of their drinks + unfortunately I didn't feel the most welcome by the team. + didn't love the chai and despite it being a non fat milk added it still made my stomach ache a ton plus there was a ton of cinnamon + when I ordered the chai they didn't ask if I wanted the medium or large option and just assumed the large Probably won't be back unless I'm teaching in this area and just need a coffee shop to get work done at or if I'm craving empanadas. read more

Hey now my YELPies!!! Stopped by this quaint little coffee shop on my way to a Yoga retreat in DC. So cute with outdoor and indoor seating with music you will sing to while ordering (Yes, it was a personal karaoke coffee experience )It had the feel of a coffee shop and bakery in the little cobblestone street villages in Spain. The customer service was so personal and my Matcha Latte was made with the most care and her obvious love of matcha. I had the Almond Croissant and when I say.. FRESH.. it was FRESH!!! I am most definitely a sucker for small businesses and especially when they love on their patrons. Staff change is BAD! This has been my go to place for a couple years, but no longer. The new staff don't know the differences between the coffee types. The bacon on the bacon avocado sandwich is no longer crispy and overcooked. And the almond croissant is no longer fresh. You can tell it's from the day before---not crispy, neither the croissant nor the almonds. Not sure what has happened to the management on this side of Dupont Circle with this Emissary, but hope it can be rescued soon before Daily Provisions opens and takes over! read more

after a late flight in and still being in Pacific time zone, a coffee was exactly what I needed to hit the ground running. But this place wasn't it. The home make their chai which was incredibly watery. Definitely wasn't what I was hoping for even with an espresso shot. Unfortunately, I threw it away after about three sips. Wow! What a great find! This local coffee shop hidden on the back road of Connecticut Avenue. Taken by a friend, I will be a repeat visitor going forward. They have terrific holiday latte selections and also a delightful lunch menu to include baked empanadas. I had the Gingerbread Latte with Oat Milk, Yumm! Delicious! I had an Arepa con queso with the side of avocado and a green smoothie and it was a perfect meal. The service is very courteous and people are kind. I do think they need to put a limit on how long people sit out doing work at the tables because it seems egregious and is inconsiderate to other customers. read more

Favorite coffee spot in DC. Friendly staff, great beans (they use counter culture) and a fun menu for a quick breakfast or lunch.

What a great neighborhood coffee spot in DuPont Circle! I met someone for a business meeting here on a Thursday morning. There was more than enough seating inside and out and the servers were very kind. Both were super tasty and went particularly well together. However, definitely not the cheapest latte and croissant of my life! We sat outside on the patio, which was lovely. There is also seating along the wall inside the coffee shop. There was only one person making coffee on a Sunday morning, so it took a while for our drinks to be ready. Came here in the morning to grab some breakfast while I work. The place is very cute and I enjoyed the nice jazz music that was playing. I ordered an egg on brioche sandwich and a coffee. The salad was good and the egg on brioche tasted decent (added a little Cholula to give the sandwich a bit more flavor). The ladies working there were nice. Emissary is a quaint coffee shop on 20th Street NW in the DuPont Circle neighborhood of DC. If it wasn't for their bright blue door you'd easily pass it by while walking down the street. However, this is DEFINITELY not a coffee shop you'll want to pass up. I was welcomed the moment I stepped through the door. Most of the seats were taken, but the place felt welcoming and comfortable. I hate to give a biased review of a place, but I was looking forward to visiting this coffee shop and just had a poor experience. The coffee was nice, the menu was fairly similar to other coffee shops and the place is very much the DC coffee house vibe. Also I love the neighborhood. My complaint however, is that I came on an early Saturday morning and for 45 mins the staff was yelling to each other from the coffee bar to the back room, hanging out at the bar talking loudly and just being extremely disrespectful to the few of us in the place. Something has changed here. I don't know if it's management or their response to inflation, but it's not the same. I've come here once a week (minimum) for the past year, and regularly in years before. 1. They are frequently out of things now. For the past week there has been no chai. Today, there was no tea at all. No arepas (the only gluten free offering). 2. They raised prices, as they did at the other Emissary location. I get it, inflation, margins are low in places that serve food, fine. But at least for some of the items (like the avocado toast) this has resulted in a reduction in the actual food provided. A latte and sandwich easily is about 30 dollars now. It's unreasonable. 3. Much power to the staff, but the person behind the register when I come feels like they need a bit more support. There's been a lot of noticeable turnover over the past few months and it hasn't benefited the experience here. Me and my writing partner have discussed meeting elsewhere now, though we've been quite comfortable to set our weekly meetings here. The location is convenient and we've come to look forward to certain items and offer regular patrons. However, I no longer suggest this place to others because the inconsistency in service and the rising cost just means I can't expect others will have a good experience here. There's opportunity for them to improve but things have been noticeably going downhill. read more

A+ for ambiance, but service was a little slow. Had to ask for the bill multiple times and then a 25% tip was autoselected on the terminal and I hit continue since I rarely see a tip autoselected on the Toast terminals. Also, the burrito was kinda bland and clearly made with reconstituted eggs which would be fine if it weren't nearly 20 dollars. Overpriced and poor service but the vibes are nice. read more
