My expectations were high on Tiger Fork, and I won't say we were let down, but I certainly didn't leave impressed. Overall it's not a bad spot, but it just didn't exceed where I hoped it would, and while the food didn't really shine, neither did the service. The space is really awesome, and the menu gives you a lot of hope. But fewer hits than expected. The Crab Wontons were out, the jeau lanh (sp?) was not bad, but not that great, the char siu pork was my favorite, but the fried rice and noodles were not cooked at a high enough temperature to taste remotely authentic. Tiger Fork is nestled in an alley and the entrance isn't very obvious because the restaurant signage is written in orange and Chinese. And the door is a little heavy. But once you enter the location, the decor immerses you into the restaurant's Chinese/Hong Kong cuisine cultural elements. There are a number of drink options to choose from and I tried the aphrodisiac and another mezcal-based cocktail, both of which were amazing. We ordered the crab appetizers and the calamari for the table to share, and then we got a few more servings of them. For my main I had the brisket chow fin which was very delicious with great portion. And then the dessert. I believe it was some kind of bread, it was phenomenal but note that it's quite rich and can be shared with 2 or 3 other people because there were lots of rich flavors that might be heavy for one person. The location is a bit in the cut with a very heavy door. The service was prompt and the venue has very nice ambiance. Cute for light bites on date night. Everything was prepared well, good portions and tasty. The cucumber salad was crisp with a balance of sweet, zesty and spicy marinade. The calamari is tender with a light crisp batter, more salt than spice, very good. The pork belly was meaty, tender and flavorful. The shrimp and crab wantons are more of a shrimp steamed dumpling on top of radish and some crab meat. It's made well but know what to expect as it isn't similar to Americanized crab Rangoons. When we first arrived the front door appeared to be locked and we thought they were closed. Also it doesn't say Tiger Fork in English on the outside. So as we were walking away I called to see if they were open and they were but they said the the front door has somewhat of a vacuum effect and that you gotta pull really hard to open it. Had such a wonderful dinner here! The atmosphere inside is great; not too fancy but not too casual either. The service was lovely, our waitress had great recommendations and our food came out SO fast. Their cocktail program is also great! I enjoyed the Monkey King and the Three Kingdoms. There's zhacai and small cute cubes of fried tofu in the fried rice, which both add fun textures. The side salad to the duck was well made and had lychee, which was very interesting. I do like that the food menu was on the simpler side, so I didn't get choice fatigue, but they do have a nice big selection for drinks. For fun we had the "juice box" lucky dog sake, tastes like a nigori, feels a bit smoother/creamier, and a non alcoholic drink (ginger beer base but forgot the name). We were surprised to be able to get a reservation for 6pm on a Saturday as in past years they were pretty booked! Two of us shared the BBQ Combo Platter, which includes char siu, crispy pork belly, roasted soy chicken, pickle plate, Tiger salad, crispy spring roll, chow chow, ginger scallion sauce, steamed rice. For the best service, I would recommend the chefs counter!!! It is a really cool experience but probably good for a party of 2 or 3 max. We got the cucumbers, crispy eggplant, calamari, fried rice and a few drinks. Both the fried eggplant and calamari had great crisp to it. I'm a huge fan of hole-in-the-wall authentic Chinese cuisine, and I eat a ton of it, but sometimes you want to have a more upscale experience. Tiger Fork is the place to go when you're craving the good stuff but want to dress up a bit and feel like you're on a date. We came here for my birthday this year, I wasn't feeling like doing another fancy steakhouse but wanted something a little different. I'm happy with our choice. The vibe in here is really nifty, there are cool murals, the space is fun and unique and it's location in an alley also gives that "Chinatown" feel even though inside it's not hole in the wall in the slightest. They have a large and creative bar menu; my only complaint on the drinks that we got was that they were very small for the price. Delicious, but a bit tiny. I had the Wax On/Wax Off milk tea based cocktail and it was delicious but only a few sips. My husband liked his drink too, I didn't try it since I don't like whisky based drinks, but he said it also was pretty small given the huge ice cube taking up most of the space in the glass. A little more generosity with the portion sizes on the drinks would be appreciated. As for the food, we ordered the jah leung, crab chili won tons, char siu plate, and had complementary Monkey Bread that they gave me for my birthday. All of it was good, my personal favorite were the crab chili wontons and my husband's favorites were the jah leung and monkey bread. The jah leung was the most unique to me; I've never had a dish like that anywhere else and I loved the combination of slightly sweet and savory flavors. I'd definitely order it again. Though the char siu plate was good, it was probably the most mundane item that we ordered, and I'd probably order something else next time just because there are a lot of good char siu places out in Rockville/Silver Spring area where I live. Although I had issues with portion size on the drinks, the monkey bread portion was pretty huge. It was not only sharable but probably about twice as much as we needed for the two of us. It was really tasty though, I particularly how liked the apple complemented the dish. I'm not usually a caramel fan but the sauce, though caramel adjacent, was a bit creamier and less burnt tasting and worked really well. I do want to try the poached pear next time as that sounded amazing, but I am glad we got to try this one and would eat it again too. We sat at the chef's counter so got to watch the food prep and see all the dishes go out, and so many of them looked good. I'd love to come here with a larger group so we could try more items like the green beans, fried eggplant, and some of the rice/noodle dishes. Once you find Tiger Fork trust me you will work up your appetite. The door to this place is so heavy that you will think this place is actually closed. You got a put some oomph in it when pulling to get this door open. It makes you feel that you need to get back up in the gym. This was a place I picked out to try on a Saturday afternoon. There are plenty of options for food and bars in this area near Logan Circle and the Mt. Vernon Square metro stop. Very clean place and the staff was very nice. If you are looking at Yelp pictures ask exactly what comes with your meal. I only say that because in many pictures it looks like some time ago that rice came as an automatic side but not so much anymore. If you want to come in just for drinks the bar is a nice place to sit as there was a gathering of friends having drinks. Either the drinks were real good or they were slow drinkers. They were there when we got there and were there when we left. For the entrée selection I went with the pork belly and I really wish it would have came with some rice. I could have ordered some but decided not to as the spouse got some noodles (beef chow fun) I was nomming on also. The pork belly did come with a hot mustard sauce, a mild green sauce, pickled veggies, and lettuce. It kind of worked out wrapping the pork belly in the lettuce. You can lie and say it is a healthier version this way. No disappointment in the selection and I have no problem coming back. Although it is an appetizer the crispy calamari stood out to me. The sauce that came atop was a nice addition but it was fried and seasoned perfectly that it was not needed. I have been waiting to try this resturant for awhile and it did not disappoint. I won't say the staff at the front was as warm and welcoming as I would like for a resturant of this caliber but I guess they also don't have to be warm just help me be seated. My waitress was great she was super sweet and super quick with assisting us with our meal and breaking down what we were thinking about ordering! We started with the crab wontons they were really good and the main attraction for everyone when I posted it on social media. I went to Tiger Fork as a recommendation from my son who used to live in Washington DC to be honest I was a little disappointed. The menu was very limited compared to the photos that had been posted on Yelp. Most of the noodle dishes were not there and none of the Bahn mi dishes were on the menu. A few apps were good braised rib noodles cauliflower and calamari were just ok most were not super hot in temp which I wanted the dish to be served hotter and with some spicy dipping sauce. Even two plates alone a lot of food, quite honestly. The best dish was the chow fun with beef brisket. The pork plate the meat was nice and tender, but the sauce was bland and overall the dish needed more flavor. The calamari was an insane portion and fairly standard. The Peruvian chef and a Chinese kitchen cocktail was fairly watery but was very drinkable. I've had far better meals at more affordable places so for that reason I have to get it 3 stars. OUR FAVORITE OF THE TRIP! Tiger fork was one of the stops I wanted to make on our trip to DC and I'm so glad I made it. This casual but very well put together stop in Blagden alley was a great place to meet with friends, take on a date or stop for a quick drink on a night out. We sat at the chefs table which was great to watch them work and a pop in once in awhile to see how our food was for us, excellent chef! Our server Angie was very attentive and incredibly kind, thank you for your input and made sure our drinks weren't empty! For the drinks they were very tasty, however if you want spirit forward I would suggest asking for your go to, their "spirit forward" selection wasn't quite there for me. But, still tasty! Pretty cool place for Chinese food. Though pricy, the combo fried rice was delectable. A little on the oily side, but it was delicious and had a wonderful flavor. We ate at the bar and were able to order from the happy hour menu - we tried jah leung and it was really good! The crispiness of the youtiao paired nicely with the soft rice noodle and the sweet sauce. Finding the restaurant was a bit confusing, since the signage is not in English. The building is red with Chinese lanterns and Tiger Fork written in Chinese. The service was good and the ambiance was swanky, but I wasn't blown away by the overall dining experience. Tiger Fork is a "solid 4" for DC, but compared to other coastal cities like NYC, SF, and LA, this would be a 3 and would probably struggle to survive against other delicious Asian/HK competitors. First off, the reservation policy is pretty strict about the two hour dining window. My friend was running 30 minutes behind due to the horrendous parking situation in the neighborhood and we were cut short of our dining experience. Not the restaurant's fault at all, but if you're going to dine and drive here, just be aware that paying for parking is wildly expensive (even if you were to use SpotHero) and most of the parking spots are in the rougher side of Mt Vernon square area. Onto the food: solid Cantonese fare, though scaled back on the portion sizes. We ordered the beef chow fun, smashed cucumber salad, jah leung, grandma's chili crab wontons, and crispy eggplant. What confused me was the "jah leung" dish - never heard of the name if it's a HK dish - but it's basically the wide rice noodle (cherng fun). As for the crispy eggplant, it was delicious but not what I expected since everything was DEEP fried to perfection. The best dish was the grandma's chili crab wontons - although the dish was very pricey at $18 for the small portion size, it was delicious. I'm glad I got to experience Tiger Fork as an upscale Cantonese restaurant, but due to parking difficulty, prices and portion-size, I don't think I would go out of my way to go here. read more

Caught up with a friend at Tiger Fork and enjoyed the fun fusion cocktails! Their incorporation of TCM was really cool and unique so I went for the 8 O'Clock Light Show. I'm usually not a rum person but it worked with the yuzu/citrus vibes in conjunction with the bitterness from astragalus and ginseng. My friend's Bee Sting had a nice juxtaposition of the sweet honey/lemon flavors vs the bitter absinthe/angostura taste. For apps, we got the spicy crab dumpling. The shrimp component actually stood out to me the most because it was really fresh. I liked the douban sauce, crispy garlic, and onions. Its also just a touch tangy from the vinegar so it was a great app! I liked the Chinese-influenced decor with modern elements and the dim, intimate lighting. Lots of references to Hong Kong so it reminds me of home. Drinks/apps came out quick but we also visited close to closing time. Our server came by with the regular and the cherry blossom menu, but we opted to order off of the regular menu. Their beef chow fun is great but I wouldn't say it's an elevated dish. Everything was so great but my two standouts were the pork belly plate and the green beans. Honey........ok so those green beans. I am ready to give up my life savings for those things. Served in a peanut butter sauce, perfectly cooked. Super duper good! I even caught myself eating what was left of them at 2am in my hotel. I went to Tiger Fork for dinner during DC Restaurant Week, though I ended up ordering off the regular menu since nothing on the Restaurant Week menu really jumped out at me. First thing worth noting is the location. When you Uber there, you kind of have to loop around the corner and approach it from the back. It took us a minute to actually figure out where the entrance was. Not a dealbreaker at all, just a small annoyance and something to be aware of if it's your first time. Portion sizes here are no joke. I went with a plus one, and between one appetizer, one entrée, and one drink, we were more than satisfied. To be fair, we had brunch earlier that day, but even still, the portions are generous enough that sharing is very doable. We started with the salt and pepper calamari, which was easily my favorite dish of the night. Great crunch, solid flavor, and overall really well done. My only critique is that it leaned a bit too salty, but that's a small fix. Next time, I'd honestly ask for no added salt and season it myself. For the entrée, we shared the beef brisket chow fun. Another big portion and very filling. The beef was tender and the dish overall had good flavor. All in, we spent about $70 including tip, roughly $35 per person, which felt reasonable for the amount of food. I'd come back again, probably skip the drink, and definitely run the calamari back. From the moment you walk in you are welcomed with a warm smile into a space that feels chic yet comfortable, and the experience only gets better from there. These Michelin stars are earned because their food is absolutely exquisite many dishes. Many dishes have a good heat on them so be prepared for that. Love the Michelin restaurant Tiger Fork! Even if it is an obscure location in Blagden Alley. Hint: it's next door to the La Colombe coffee shop and has a big black hexagonal window. We came early on a Thursday evening and though we were the first diners, Tiger fork was filling up by the time we left. Tiger Fork is family style with dishes intended to be shareable. Portions are generous and prices reasonable. The best dish of the evening was dessert, the Monkey King Bread. Outstanding! This milk bread had a most amazing texture and it comes with a wonderful caramel sauce, nuts and slices of fresh banana. This is what life is all about! Next best, but still absolutely amazing was the Jah Leung. These are stuffed circular rice noodles. Delicious! The stuffing has a delightful crunchy texture. The green beans were great, accompanied by a peanut butter sauce, scallions and fried shallots. We really liked the Crispy Pork Belly plate. The crispy but moist pork was masterfully seasoned with just a tad of five spice. You eat the pork belly nestled in a lettuce leaf with a dab of ginger scallion sauce. The portion of Salt and Pepper Calamari was huge! The calamari was seasoned just right and came with bits of aioli and garnished with finely sliced scallion. JP had a can of Double Dagger pilsner beer. It has a pleasant flavor and a nice astringent bite. Music selection was great and played at a pleasing level. The only room for improvement would have been for the young and respectful server to ask if we wanted refills. But in short, our experience was great.
