To put their menu in simple terms, they offer Chinese food and wings. Their wings have limited sauces. I got the 6-wing meal with fries. I got Mumbo sauce on my wings and fries. You can also get the sauce on the side. It took about 15 minutes for them to prepare my meal. This restaurant is a strictly carryout joint and does not offer dine-in. My food was decent. I've heard all the great stories about this place and was always on my bucket list. As someone who has lived in the district for over 10 years, I've tried mambo sauce at various places and was never really my thing. But hearing that this spot was one of the OG spots for mambo, I got it with my wings and fries and I gotta say, I'm turned. I'll have their mambo wings/fries any day. Solid Chinese. I paid 13 dollars for 5 wings with shrimp fried rice. When I first received the box the chicken was hot and the fried rice looked on par with most Chinese places. I bit into the chicken and proclaimed it as the best meal that I've ever tasted then realized that I was really intoxicated at that moment. I took the rest of my meal home and ate it the next day when sober and can understand it's cult following. Hochi has been a staple to the Howard University community for yearsss!!! As a graduating senior I have come to admire their hard work, and their service. The food here is affordable, with 5-7bucks I dare say you can get a meal. There's not too many places like hochi anymore, if you're in the area stop by and get literally anything on the menu. I know thanks to my cousin's facebook reminder. In between visits I pretty much stopped eating Carryout. I did a few times here and there but no nose dives. Just enough to get my feet wet. I had even been back a few times to get a bottle of water. I do know that because most carryouts sell 12 oz. bottles of water for a dollar. Howard China is not about heatstrokes so they sell 23 oz. bottles for $1.00. Hey, I love the simple things. So this last particular trip was like my previous ones. Wings and Fries, all saucualted. What sauce???!?!? It goes without saying on Georgia Ave. Quit playin! With Howard China's corner lot location and the amount of windows and the lack of A/C, I felt like I was in a broaster. I guess, I could have waited at the bus stop under the tree. But then, how would I know when the food is ready. Critical thinking in the Carryout named after but not affiliated with Howard University. Anyway, I spent only a split second admiring the renovations, cosmetic renovations. New sign with a nice logo and a new floor. I don't know how you live your life but I came prepared with wipes for my hands. There are tables in Howard China but, I mean, the cool kids don't eat at those tables. The food is made to order so it was hot enough to make it over to Girard Street Park. I'd never been but it was closer than Malcolm X but you might even live nearby so "nothing even matters at all." I give my most recent visit Four Stars. I had the chicken wings, fries with mambo sauce on the side. I requested some salt, pepper and plenty of ketchup on the fries. Wouldn't you know it! They fucked my order up. The gave me only two packages of ketchup with the fries, unbelievable. I'm glad that I requested the mambo sauce on the side because it was trash. I had to wait until I got home to enjoy my fries, which REQUIRED ketchup and my then, they were cold. Over all, the experience sucked. Typical Chinese restaurant that lacks respect for their black customers. Will never return, but I will give them one star overall. The service tanked one of the stars, which would have been two stars overall. Service is very important. Ambiance? There was none, unless you take in consideration the broken window in the waiting area. I tried to place an order for the lunch special and add noodles instead of rice (usually $1 upcharge) they told me it'll be $3 so i said ok I'll take it with rice instead i go to pay and he informs me they don't take credit cards!?! What modern buisness doesn't accept credit cards...ok so then he says there's an ATM outside and I ask if there's a fee and there is. Save yourself the headache and avoid this place extremely rude.
