Honestly, this establishment needs to be shut down and boarded up. However, if that happens the men of Drew Hall will be greatly affected. They don't really have any other options. Sorry guys, Georgia Ave have failed you. The facility is grimey and the food is ...grimey. I don't understand how anyone can crave it. The food is (cough) and is not worth the risk of being shot and robbed by locals for. Yeah, every night the HU police wire release information about students being robbed for their iphones and computers at gunpoint while waiting for their neanderthal sized wings to finish frying. The place is well-lit and spacious, with tile floors, bench seating along the walls, and the usual panels of scarred bullet-resistant glass to put you at ease. Their Gen'l Tso's special is typical of their offerings: good but eccentric. It comes in a big portion, with plenty of glossy, thick sauce mixed in with the chicken. They ask if you want it spicy when you order, which no one else around does, and it has a nice kick to it if you do. But the traditional broccoli and hot peppers that would complete the dish are absent. It's partly made up for with the bits of bean sprout and onion in the fried rice, but this place really could be a contender with a tiny bit more effort. The special comes with a can of soda, which, unless you are explicit, defaults to whatever house brand flavor they have too much of that day. You don't get a vote by default. Despite everything, this carry-out is still better than virtually all of its bretheren in the area. More so than the others, China House is not afraid of a little spice. As with most places, you have to ask for hot mustard and duck sauce if that's your thing. Parking is easy on the block next door or the lot across the street.

No, what you're looking for is fast, no hassle, inexpensive, decent portion sizes, consistency across visits, and flavor. I've been surprised at how mediocre most Chinese-American carry-out -- or, frankly, the sit-down as well -- in DC is, but Hong Kong Carry-out hits all expectations. They don't deliver, but you can order via delivery services. But Hong Kong Carryout is so freaking fast I just usually order pick-up over the phone. When you order over the phone they end the call with "Okay, ready in 10 minutes." It takes me just about 10 minutes to drive from home to their location, and my order is almost always ready by the time I get there. I've tried a lot of dishes on the menu and the combos (smaller portion, but comes with a pile of fried rice and an egg roll) are a good deal. My regular order varies between the kung pao chicken, hunan beef, General Tso's chicken, szechuan beef, or lo mein. The egg rolls are the best I've found in DC, but the soups are just okay. The sleeper menu item is the Cold Noodle with Sesame Sauce. Again, if you're going here expecting something "epic," don't. If you're going here because you love traditional Chinese-American take-out joints and you appreciate fast, inexpensive, reliable, consistently above average dishes, you'll be satisfied.

The chicken had a little too much general tso sauce on it, so I might have to tell them to make it with a little less sauce next time. The fried rice was pretty much standard when it comes to some carryout's fried rice. Nothing extra was added to it like onions, bean sprouts, or eggs, however it was delicious. You know the fried rice is good when you don't need any soy sauce to go along with it. I also got a pork egg roll and 3 whole chicken wings along with my order. The pork egg roll was meh. Nothing extravagant about it. Their whole chicken wings are pretty good, but they're definitely overpriced. 3 whole wings (that's the minimum count) for $4.65 is a ripoff. Their mambo sauce is not the greatest though. It has a nice consistency that's a perfect match for your wings or french fries where its not watered down or too thick, but it failed to meet the connection with it's sweet, tangy, and spicy taste. They also have a mini bar which is cool and I really like their old fashioned cash registers. If you need an ATM, use the one at the gas station or the one at the convenient store that's like 3 stores down.

While the shrimps were a nice size ( nothing like most smallish shrimps I've seen in these carryout boxes ) and their egg rolls are healthy in size as well... Wait. Do i like a carry out place?…read more I didn't even know this was just a 'curry out' store. The general tso's tofu was SO GOOD. Perfectly crispy. Good sauce flavor. The Szechuan shrimp was not what i expected. But was a great mix of shrimp, peppers and onions. The lunch special comes with either white rice or fried rice. The portion was very good and I thought it was a good value for less than $10. There was only one employee working there and she was doing everything like taking the orders and cooking in the back. It seems like an efficient operation and my beef and broccoli was excellent. It's located a little north of Mount Pleasant but it's easy to find.
