This place has changed hands recently and my experience is a severe dip in quality. It's carry out Chinese so I'm not expecting Michelin level quality but I do want my dish to be palatable. I recently ordered shrimp with hot garlic sauce and it tasted like someone accidentally spilled a whole cup of salt in the dish. Honestly, it's exactly what you are looking for when you want take out Chinese. It's fast, varied menu with all your favorites, ample portions and fine prices. We got General Tsos chicken, pork lo mein and egg rolls (2 per order). We called ahead and the order was ready within 15 minutes. The place is small but that's totally fine, it's just for pickups! The chicken was not overly breaded or poor in quality (chewy/fatty) which often happens with this dish. It was very saucy too and had a surprising number of broccoli pieces and a few carrots and green peppers! Lo mein was not cheap on the meat and the container was busting at the seams. Super love this place! I have been wanting to try for awhile based on the positive reviews and I finally had the chance when I was in the neighborhood to run some errands last Friday morning. After I picked up a preorder from a downtown bakery, I called to place a large order for takeout: Singapore rice noodle, happy family, beef lo mein, large combination fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, shrimp with lobster sauce, an order of steamed dumplings, and an order of fried dumplings. The man on the phone repeated the order and told me it would take 15 minutes, which I was both pleased with and skeptical about. I walked into the poorly lit restaurant and a woman greeted me. When she was finished with the customer in front of me, I told her I was picking up and started to rattle off my order. She instantly recognized it and told me they were in the process of finishing up. She started to pack my order and included free white rice, sodas, and fortune cookies. She asked if I needed any sauce or utensils and I declined. Meanwhile, at least six other people came in to either pick up or place an order. Mind you, this was within the first 30 minutes of opening. I love how they were ready to go. The one negative is that my chicken did not include sweet and sour sauce. To be fair, I placed a massive order and there were other customers placing their own orders. Other than that, everything was carefully packaged and tied up. The prices remind me of when I was back in college and honestly, the quality was reminiscent too, which is to say that it was fantastic. I didn't care for the dumplings because I thought the skin was a bit too thick but everything else was delicious. They overpack the containers so by the time I arrived home, the Singapore rice noodle was busting out of its plastic/aluminum vessel. That dish, happy family, and the fried rice were filled with various protein. The happy family had big pieces of imitation crab. I also agree with other reviews that their portions are satisfying and not too greasy. The beef lo mein was also bursting at the seams of the takeout box but I loved the texture of the noodle and how the beef was cut into strips to facilitate eating. The shrimp with lobster sauce is another favorite and was super consistent with other places in terms of quantity and quality. Actually, it's a little better. I ordered the seafood delight. Contrary to the description, there's was not a single scallop in sight. Instead, the price was a dollar higher than what was on their printed menu and they had substituted fake crab meat for the scallop. Shrimp was fine, but the one piece of lobster was tough and inedible. Dumplings were ok, but very thick wrapper and very little meat filling. My husband said the chicken and broccoli was bland. After reading the reviews, I decided to give this place a chance. I hadn't eaten all day, so I was ready to try a few different things but wasn't sure what to try. The lady that answered the phone to take my order was very pleasant & helpful. I settled for the shrimp & string beans, shrimp lo mein, and spring rolls. The shrimp lo mein was decent and packed full of shrimp to the top, as a previous yelper mentioned in their review. I requested to have it spicy, but it was pretty mild. The shrimp with string beans had a really good flavor to them, but the dish was very lackluster in my opinion & nothing memorable. Now on to the spring rolls; they were my least favorite. They were extremely greasy and tasted like days old grease so I tossed them to the trash. To some if up, this was my first and last visit to this establishment. I wouldvd given this place two stars, but they have me a free soda. read more

Probably my favorite fast and cheap Chinese food in DC. Literally everything I've had has been super tasty (and I feel like I've had a decent selection of the menu by now). Some of my favorites are the beef lo mein, singapore rice noodles, and Szechuan style chicken and beef. Everything is always served piping hot and is usually ready for pickup ~15 minutes after I call to place my order. I generally wait till I have a lot of people over so we can order a ridiculous amount of food and try a little bit of everything, and I highly recommend this method (here and at every other restaurant too haha). Not pricey and it gives large portions for the price that can last you well into the weekend. My go to at any Chinese takeout place is the sesame chicken and lo mein. The sesame chicken came with broccoli and a yummy slightly spicy sauce - definitely will get again! The chicken lo mein is ok, it needed a bit more salt but I bet it'll taste great as a leftover tomorrow. The service was quick and the lady out the counter was super nice! My go to meal is the 4pc wings, fried hard with French fries and Mambo sauce. The chicken is crispy and flavorful. Not overly greasy like some other places. They have dinner/lunch specials that will come with less food but also come with a drink and spring roll, so its still a good deal. The Location/Space: Tucked away in Mount Pleasant, you could easily walk past this restaurant. It is pretty small and unappealing on the outside. There is very little seating in the inside and you order up at a counter. There is usually a short wait but I suggest ordering ahead because the food can take a bit. Your search for the best Chinese ends here. Best mumbo sauce in town. It's sweet, tangy, gets all over, and yes it's deep red. A 2 piece over fries or rice gets you around $4.50 including tax. That's a steal, just make sure you have cash as they have a credit minimum of $7. It's okay, just order an appetizer to get you over the hump. There's a small mom-and-pop that's been long gone in San Jose called ABC Diner and they made some spicy and tangy orange chicken. This place has to be the East Coast cousin of it. The Orange Chicken is worth flocking towards as the portions are massive yet they're able to pack it in such small containers. They clearly have some hook-up with Chinese spies or at least IKEA's top secrets. The depth of color, bits of orange peel, and red chili peppers scream this is the one. It is. It's really impressive that this place is trilingual. I've ordered in Mandarin before. You'll see the locals order in Spanish and the family does a wonderful job. read more

As a Chinese food snob, I can vouch for China Town Carryout being one of the best places in DC to get egg food young. My partner prefers general tso's chicken which I'm not a huge fan of.
