So, I'm brand new to DC. From NYC, by way of Hampton Roads. This isn't the first Chinese Restaurant I've tried. This is my first time here. The hospitality was immediately welcoming. She acted like she'd known me for years. The ambiance...? It's a "take-out" restaurant; there IS no ambience. I went with something safe... chicken wings & French fries. Just ordered and picked up my food from here. Fries HARD like they reheated the fries. Chicken SMALL & also seemed to be reheated up. Chicken wings had a nasty taste to it. For $20 not worth it! And I was starving ain't eat all day, and still wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I'm not from D.C. so I was skeptical about ordering what I had a taste for. I wanted some yak-mee (Gwat Mein), Us Bal-da-moorians (Baltimore) call it Yak or yok-mee. I asked the lady @ the counter do they have it, and explained to her what it is. She said yes, but once I received it... It was wasn't what I was expected. Their version is a soup. So I already knew Bal-da-moor has food that other places don't, but I took a chance, and was left feeling dismayed and crestfallen... We all have had carry out many times in our lives. This place just made my top 3 in the DC area! The customer service here is great! They are so professional over the phone and in person. My food was made quickly but accurately. The food taste sooo good and fresh. To be fair I only had there chicken wings, shrimp and broccoli and egg rolls but that was GREAT! Keep up the great job and great taste! I will be back. read more

The name may be China Wok but I would say most people are like me and order something that wasn't cooked in a wok. To quote David Byre...."How did I get here?" I rarely visit Hechinger Mall, especially since the Radio Shack closure but here I was. A friend was visiting Pizza Hut and I was in the mood for a light snack so I ventured over to China Wok. I had been a few times before but it's been a minute. A few years back I found a hair in my lunch special and settled on Wings & More Wings on Benning Road for my Carryout moments. I had the same issue with China House across the street so both went on isolation. I thought, it's been a few years, and forgiveness is fulfilling. Let me order some fries with M(a/u)mbo Sauce. As I mentioned, I hadn't been here in a minute so I was shocked that my order only set me back $1.75. A pleasant surprise indeed. Then it was time to scope my surroundings. An interesting mixture of people came in and out. Some of everyone was seemed to there on this weekday afternoon. A man with a tie ordered a Steak and Cheese Egg Roll, a West African lady ordered soup. No one played the number though that's something you could do at China Wok. They also selling lil snacks and cigarettes. Pass. When the fries were ready I met the cashier at the register. Since there is no bulletproof glass, a plus, she asked what I wanted on the crinkle cut fries and I asked for Pepper and M(a/u)mbo Sauce. I think I ended up with Salt, Pepper, Ketchup but that's that. There were no hairs and only dollars were spent. read more

Finally!!! Yes finally! This is probably the best Chinese takeout in the Northeast! We shouldn't be judging where this shop is located!! I know "China Wok" is a chained but hey this food is pretty good! The fried rice is cooked perfectly no undercooked rice!! You musttttt try their cheese steak and shrimp egg rolls!! Delicioussss!! Wonton soup ha I find it funny only small meat stuffed probably a size of a small M&M peanut in a big wrapped wonton but the broth is good, tho wish the meat is double size of M&M peanut. ‍ Lo Mein beef is pretty good. read more

Many people will either miss this place or write it off for one of several reasons; they don't deliver, it's in "Hechinger Mall" so it's not on the street (and it's in "Hechinger Mall" on Benning Road), they'll see China House or Danny's across the street. Sucks to be them. This place rocks in my opinion. The reason? They make good Chinese food (to me). I get the special #2: Chicken and shrimp with broccoli and fried rice. The food tastes fresh and flavorful and comes hot and ready to go in a few minutes for a decent price (under $10). Now be clear, this is a "hoodish" spot because it is in "Hechinger Mall", some of the associated characters will be out and about - but there's no bulletproof glass; the store's next to a Subway sandwich and a decent fish fry, and they have a variety of other foods too, but the fact that the name is "China Wok" should mean they do Chinese pretty good. One of the best places to get Chinese food!!! Don't be fooled for it to be a "hole in the wall" place, so much to choose from at reasonable prices. Favorites r the shrimp egg rolls, garlic shrimp w/fried rice, curry shrimp w/fried rice, shrimp fried rice & the shrimp lo mein. They give u large portions as well. This is my usual goto quick Chinese place since it close to home. The food itself is okay. I would say it's pretty average. I always get the shrimp lo mein and usually wonton soup or dumplings. The shrimp lo mein is decent, but could use a little more flavor. The wonton soup is standard and the dumplings are mostly dough. I wouldn't choose this as my first recommendation for Chinese, but it'll do if you're limited on options. read more

China Wok is one of those hole in a wall places that I went by tons of time and never went into and one day I felt adventurous and said heck why not. I was pleasantly surprised by the food, and its pretty cheap. Granted the place looks a dump but the food is not too bad. China Wok is what it is. Some of the dishes are delicious - Hunan Chicken, Chicken and Shrimp w/ Garlic - others not so much - Bourbon Chicken, General Tso's chicken. I think what hurts this place is the fact that it's in the middle of an aggressive area in DC, Hechinger Mall, where you're more likely to run into shady characters, some asking for money, others just walking by, but I've never had an issue. Staff is nice and remembers you, and it is reasonably priced. read more

Your average greasy carryout around the way. I mean if your ever craving a 3pc and fries, why not stop here. The food is usually pretty decent even though I try to limit my Chinese food intake. Im craving wings and fries and happened to be in the area. So I decided on fries with salt-pepper & ketchup, because I have wings in the fridge marinating and waiting on my deep fryer. I-called it in, get home all excited and immediately I am disappointed. I mean my fries were luke warm, and kind of soggy....yuck. Idk maybe it was because they don't have heat inside the carryout. This place is what it is... a fast Chinese/American cheap eats place. The food is pretty greasy but I guess its edible once in a blue moon.

3 and a half stars for what it is! Cheap greasy AmeriChinese. Open late and orders are up quickly. I get tofu with broccoli. Have been satisfied with my food so far and I will be back... the amount of food you can get there for like, 5 or 6 bucks is huge. Especially for what I get that's bargain- a ton of fresh broccoli and tofu :) Nothing fancy, kinda in the cut too, but good for an inexpensive late-night Chinese fix. Unfortunately they don't have brown rice. They do have lottery tickets & candy, though. read more

The first time we ordered here a few months ago, it was stellar. The last 2 or 3 times, they have been dropping the ball. The Szechuan shrimp looked like soup, they sent sesame shrimp instead of General Tso. Everything is well made. I just suggest double checking your order before digging in. read more

I've been to this place for the last time!!! This is the reason I started using my yelp account. I ordered Singapore rice noodle, got home to eat it and there was a roach cooked in. The food at this place was sub par at best but it was close by an accepted credit cards. I'm from Jersey you get the best Chinese in the hood this ridiculous that down here there are no standards of service unless its a nice area. This place will never get my money again!!! read more
