I'm a creature of habit and tend to get the same things once I find something I like. I did the same at their newer, Anacostia location. The smoked wings just have that "it" factor and I alway come back for them. Don't get me wrong, the other BBQ is good as well! Get a sampler id you can't choose. The ribs and brisket are solid too. Now one thing that stands out at this location is the whiskey bar! The other location serves alcohol as well, but the whiskey bar has a different vibe. Come sit next to me real quick foodie family. Let me tell you about this place. I've been smelling their smoke in the air whenever I'm in that area for a couple few years now. For those of you who follow me know I'm from Chi-town - arguably the best foodie city in the country, if not the world. *winks* Like our pizza, we take our barbecue SERIOUSLY and there are rib joints literally all over the city. Needless to say, that ain't DC. The DMV in general suffers significantly from a lack of even decent BBQ spots, forget about good ones. Other than 250 BBQ (and that "dino" rib) and one or two others there really aren't any places that I would recommend - until today. A partner I work with wanted me to meet the owner to talk a little business so I decided to stop in and check out the food, you know killed two birds sort of thing. He wasn't there, but I still decided to try the food. Had a good conversation and laughed and joked with his nephew and a couple of the guys there behind the counter... Who of course were talking smack because they claim to be quite familiar with the Chicago BBQ tradition. They even sell rib tips here... Another of our BBQ traditions. Immediately felt dubious at their bravado though, lol. Then they let me taste the beef rib. Smokey fatty well seasoned deliciousness. Took two fat boys to go. I also ordered some pork spare ribs to go. They let me taste the collard greens (I told him they had waaaaaay too much sugar in them but otherwise seasoned). Tasted like Christmas candy. They also let me taste some jalapeno grits. Super well seasoned and creamy like they put Philly cheam cheese or crème fraiche in them (they wouldn't tell me what they actually put in them, lol). Super unctuous... And you can see the bits of jalapeno in every other spoonful. Very nice interpretation. Speaking of spicy, these spare ribs are dry rubbed (which I love) and smoked for 4 hours (they said). In their seasoning there's something hot because these Jokers are spicy!! Yep there's a **kick** in them there ribs... That may just kick YOU in the ribs if you're not careful. My tongue was definitely tingling. Sauce served on the side. The ribs are soft enough to slide off the bone although there's a little bit of resistance so I think they're smoked perfectly. The ambiance is comfortable, the service is warm and friendly and this is a good spot to go for some good barbecue in DC for a change. Parking is MLK packed as usual so be mindful. read more

Craving BBQ and didn't want to cook. DCS has been on my radar for about a year so decided to let the SO drive me into the city while traffic was decent. We arrived soon after opening and the smell of smoked meat hits you when you enter, in a very good way! I opted for 1/4 pound pulled pork (my fav), 1/4 pound moist (I think that's what it's called, idk) brisket (2nd fav) and 1/2 pound of the half smoke (least fav). I also opted for the spicy collard greens, perfection. - Pulled pork: moist, hint of sweetness and light smoke, which is perfect. - Brisket: moist, melted in my mouth, good smoke, but wayyyy too fatty and a tad salty. I'll have to try the lean next time. - Half smoke: smoke was good, flavor tasted a little like old bay, a tad spicy. Nothing was "wrong" with it, just wasn't for me. - Collard greens: nice bite to them, garlicky, bit of a kick and a hint of sweetness. I should have ordered the large! Will we order from them again? I got the BBQ sampler platter that included rib tips, brisket, spicy greens and bbq beans. I also got a side of pulled pork. The rib tips and brisket were DRY and FLAVORLESS. I've never had rib tips served that way. When I checked my order I told the lady she gave me turkey by mistake! The brisket was pale! Smh The spicy greens had no spice and had a hint of a sour taste. I really enjoyed the ambience of this place and the vibe. They had some high table seating and TVs in there. The people working in the counter were super friendly and very helpful with the menu. I cannot wait to get home because the place smelled amazing. FYI, if you don't want to smell like Smokey barbecue, you should probably order pick up. I ordered the rib and wings combo. It was about 24 bucks or so. Everything tasted amazing and the barbecue sauce made it a little bit spicy even. I loved it! I highly suggest going here. The food was good. We went later at night, so wasn't as packed. The ambiance was dim-lit but rustic so it gave an authentic smoke house feel. The food is a bit pricey compared to other smoke-houses/BBQ places especially like "ma & pa" establishments. The sides are as high as the entrees. I wish they did meals that include a side or two. Their food has unique tastes to them. Not how they would taste traditionally. Especially the baked beans- which they used like cannellini beans or something. The Collards also had a unique taste, as if some type of vinegar and sweetness was added. Those, were a little strong for me. The brisket was on point there were no complaints or modifications for that. They know how to smoke meat. All in All, i'll give this spot a 4/5. With accolades of being among the "best BBQ" spots in the D.C. area, this location in Anacostia is their second in the city. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-8 p.m., I picked up takeout around 6 p.m. on a Friday evening. Here's our experience. 1) Food: The menu is full of items from smoked wings to ribs to pulled pork sandwiches. They also have twelve different sides. The pulled pork sandwich was tasty and has the right ratio of slaw to meat. It comes with BBQ sauce in a small container. The Mac and cheese is good, but wasn't as spicy as I had hoped considering there are jalapeños in it. The baked beans were great! They are not runny at all, but rather very thick. 2) Drinks: They have a refrigerator with bottles of Coca-Cola. 3) Service: The staff were super friendly and efficient. There are two cash registers and one person who makes the food. 4) Space: There are four high top tables that sit four each and a few stools at the front window. I'd probably order the Brisket Champ next time just to compare. So many sides and all priced at $7 for the small. I went with spiced fries and they were great. When we first got here, there were several police cars with sirens on in the area. I was like okay...I may be willing to risk some danger to get good barbecue. Indeed, we had a great dinner here. The barbecued meats were seasoned well and marinated in a sweet sauce -- full of flavor. We got brisket, pork rib ends, and beef ribs; we loved everything. The beef ribs are not on their regular menu, but they have it occasionally. For sides, I especially liked their fried brussels sprouts and spicy pickles, but the coleslaw and jalapeno-cheese grits were good too. The mac and jack cheese was not to my liking, but certainly not bad. Prices are high, but the price-to-portion ratio in on par with other restaurants in the area these days. Service is friendly but still problematic due to poor sanitation practices. I observed the attendant at the register repeatedly wiping her nose with her fingers and then handling food and instruments. I was not surprised when I developed a sore throat and a runny nose about 30 minutes after eating. (Yes, my immune response is that fast.) It sucks to get sick the day before the start of a work week for a preventable reason. I'm cutting what would have been a 4-star rating in half due to the thoughtlessness and negligence required to make their patrons sick. read more

It was very cold at the time of serving, the BBQ spice was one kind only which was ok, but a place only serve BBQ must have at least 2-3 kinds as well as hot levels. Last but not least, it was very expensive compared to the value that I get ( Fries for $9) and sandwich only for $18. This is by far the worst place you could eat at! Went sometime last week in the middle of a snow storm and yes they were open!!! We ordered pork ribs,brisket smoked wings , beef ribs , Mac n cheese and beans. The ribs were a bit tough for me. I recooked it the next day to my tender liking. Brisket and beef ribs were tender and perfect. My bf liked the smoke wings. Mac n cheese was pretty good, not spicy but had a nice taste and texture. I loved the baked beans ( I don't usually like baked beans) but these were really good. Customer service was A1. The guy behind the counter helped me order. Got our food fast and easy. I went to the smoke house this past Tuesday and the worst experience. I have been there several times before without any issues. I normally get the wings and I had the beef short ribs before which were good. This day I ventured out and got the combo with the spare ribs and wings. The wings were okay but the ribs were not tender and had a rancid taste. I took a bite out of one had a bad taste and took a bite out of another still had that rancid taste. I just put the food in trash. I didn't have time to take it back was going to call but I did not. I'm definitely skeptical of coming back to this place after this experience don't know if I can trust their food. read more
