The hubs and I tried their Hickory Smoked Ribs with their 'secret sauce,' their Creole Fried Whiting, mac and cheese, potato salad, and the cornbread. The fried whiting was also freshly-fried and had some creole spices mixed into the batter; this was okay, too, but I wished they had some homemade tartar sauce that comes with it! The sides were pretty tasty, as the mac and cheese was nice and cheesy, and the potato salad had a nice relish-y kick to it. The cornbread that was freshly-baked was absolutely delicious - fluffy and just the perfect amount of sweetness. I literally drive past this place anytime I leave my house and finally decided to try them out with my family. My mother enjoyed the ribs and beef brisket. My brother and I loved the creole fried whiting. My dad tried the smothered pork chops which honestly looked like pork chops in gravy. Then he had the smoked chicken, ordered 5 but they only 4. That's one of the problems with this establishment. They run out of food fairly early. For a business that closes at 8, how do you run out of food at 5 o'clock? Now the side dishes were..... pretty bad. The collard greens had no flavor and were somehow dry. The baked mac and cheese was lackluster but doable. The rice, is literally minute rice that you can make at home. The string beans were severely overcooked. The potato salad.....was AMAZING!!!! What can I say about this place? I've passed it so many times. Finally, after years of drive-bys, I decided to stop in and try some of this amazing barbecue. As most hole in the wall restaurants, this place was fantastic!! So much so, I called my mom and aunt to join me. I ordered the brisket and although delicious, if you're a brisket-eater, you may need to order a double order as the portion is not large. For sides, I chose the Mac and Cheese and Greens, which I loved because they were cooked in turkey and I am not a pork fan. The Mac and Cheese is ok, no complaints. Needless to say, my mom and I visit Orleans twice to three times a month. So far I've tried the Southern Fried Chicken wings, the BBQ short ribs, and the Grilled Chicken Breast with Sweet Peppers and Onions. Everything is great! The ribs are always a winner, and the brisket is decent if you are a fan. I am convinced the BBQ sauce is homemade. The coleslaw is okay, the mac n' cheese would probably be great for kids, but I like mine a like more "more". Just look for the smoking smokers out front and follow your nose, you'll find it. Plus they have a big red and white "open" sign out near the curb. I disagree with my fellow yelper that this is a bad neighborhood...it was 20-30 years ago, sadly the perception remains even though those days are long gone. As long as you don't speed through Morningside or do something really stupid, the police and the locals are not going to be an issue. Besides unless it is a nice day, you won't be there long...there is a small bar type seating area inside that I have never seen anyone use, and a couple of picnic tables out front, other than that, it's take-out or catering...and you get your food very quickly even though it is sliced and packed while you wait. Great food and some of the nicest and down to earth people you will meet. I had their food before when they catered a small get together I attended. Ever since then it was my intention to go back. I pass this place all the time when going to Andrews AFB and if you drive too fast you will miss it but the smell from their smoker will still catch you and make you do a double sniff. The couple who run this place are from Louisiana but don't get fooled by the name. The food is good but you will not find a great deal of those tasty Louisiana dishes. Still if you talk to them they can let you know when they will be offering etouffee and boudin. Those of you who spent time on the Gulf Coast know what I am talking about. I ordered the rib plate dinner with coleslaw and Mac and cheese. It was great. In fact I am looking to getting a full rack one day. In my opinion they need to start selling that sauce on its own. Stumbled on this take out BBQ place and decided to try them out today at the behest of the little people who insisted this joint was the bomb. Overall, they were right, these guys rock. This BBQ shack is quite literally (and self admittedly) a "Hole in the Wall" and hard to spot from the road. I initially drove by it and wound up in someone else's parking lot but after some creative driving I managed to get in the right spot. Yelp had this categorized as a caterer which they also do but no oone reviewed it. When you walk in, the deep smoke hits you like a brick wall. It's obviously family owned and run as evidenced by the friendly staff, teh 20" tube TV sitting on top of the Frigidaire freezer and the generous free sample which was large enough to fill a small child. The chef let me taste the brisket and ribs. I ordered a combo with both plus collard greens and potato salad for ~ $15. The sauce was very smokey and had a deep sweet hickory flavor, similar to how the Texans cook. The meat was very tender and fell off the bone--perfectly cooked. Slightly fatty but that's the way I like it because I'm trying to celebrate my new low cholesterol levels with some nice juicy fat to go with the red meat! The potato salad was good and very different--tangy. Probably from pickles. I ordered the collard greens because I've never had collard greens before and I was curiously hoping they tasted like cabbage. They don't. I don't like them. But I can't hold it against Orleans because I don't know what they should taste like... but I doubt I would like them anyway. I also got a can of Coke with a straw (rather unnecessary) and a slice of bread in a baggie. The bread was store bought bread. I didn't eat the bread because I thought it was silly. The only cons I see (besides the lack of homemade bread) would be lack of advertisement, higher price tag compared to their local competition and poor location. It's located across the street from Subway in a known bad neighborhood. Recommend going when they open at lunch time because in continuing efforts to dispel rumors that cops eat donuts, the PG Police Dept has been eating at Subway. Just found out that an event I attended this past weekend was catered by Orleans Catering, so I decided to give my 2 cents. My first observation would be about the theme or style of food that is being advertised here. From some of the reviews it seems that most people thought this place was supposed to be a New Orleans, Cajun type deal, but just by looking at their menu and tasting their food my opinion is that this is all soul food. No other way to put it. Now, lets get on to what yall really wanna know about...... The menu consisted of short ribs (w/ sauce on the side), salmon, grilled chicken, yams, mac and cheese, green beans w/ potatoes and dinner rolls. I had the salmon, green beans, yams and mac n cheese at the event. I was completely satisfied. The mac and cheese and yams were ON POINT (this coming from someone who makes a mean version of both). I took home a plate of grilled chicken, yams, mac n cheese and a roll, which I ate for dinner last night and BOOM whadoyaknow... STILL ON POINT! I just have 2 complaints: I almost died when I got stabbed with a bone that was in the salmon. Blood and salmon don't mix well together. Every bite after that was with extreme caution. The green beans were over cooked and seemingly 2 different kinds... Seemed like canned food to me, but the flavor was on point. read more

Today was my first visit to Orleans Catering and I was not impressed. They do not offer discounts for military members or senior citizens. The wait was too long, 30 minutes. A vehicle drove up after I placed my order and they received their food first. I ordered a rib platter with two large sides of collar greens and macaroni and cheese, along with a small side of yams. I also ordered two corn breads and two slices of cake. Total was $30.04 with taxes. The yams were delicious. The collard greens need more seasoning. The ribs required more cooking and the portion of the ribs were skimpy. The BBQ sauce was delicious. The lemon slice cake and chocolate cake was delicious. The smoked ribs were very good... they tasted as though they had been marinated in smoke all week. The flavor emanated through and through. However the mac and cheese was soooo disappointing . It was very oily and a poor quality of cheese was utilized. The side had absolutely no taste at all. It was an oily slippery slimy suspicious mess....were you able to capture my disappointment ?!?! . The greens were pretty good but nothing dynamite. If I were to go again I will just settle with getting a rib sandwich. My boyfriend loves comfort food and I can't cook, so he always stops here to get his fill. The food here is consistently delicious and tastes like Grandma is cooking. We typically order barbeque ribs, smoked chicken wings, collards, Mac n cheese, green beans, mashed potatoes and corn bread---and we never have leftovers. All of the protein was OK. The beef ribs were dry and chewy. I find the meat portions for ribs, brisket and pulled pork to be small for the price. The yams and string beans tasted overcooked and under seasoned from a can. Collards had a great texture but no flavor. The mac&cheese tasted like it was lesser quality processed cheese food and the noodles were overcooked. The potato salad was pretty ok. Nothing about the quality, taste, portion size, or offerings gives me a Orleans vibe. The meats are decent. Sides suck. The service is good. The wait is long.
