"Shrimp w/lobster sauce"
Tonja M.

I order from here all the time but today I'm not sure what's up.... it was supposed to be shrimp with lobster sauce.... but it looks regurgitated. It smelled as if it was mixed with oil that had been burned. It smelled and looked like cat food. I called to report this and the woman who answered laughed as if it were comical. When the driver arrived he told me the reason the food was wrong was because there were so many orders at once.... ok, we'll try again with another dish maybe.

Kung Pao bean curd
Diane M.

Went on the hotel recommendation! Visiting DC and late night hunger pains. It was pretty good with very fast delivery. The hot and sour soup was piping hot and full of flavor. Rich and thick the way I like it. Spring rolls were spring rolls, lol. The fried wontons were soggy. But the main dish, Kung Pao bean curd was very good. Packed with bean curd. More bean curd then veggies and what I liked is the veggies were sliced so thin. Really full of flavor. We also had the Pad Thai. Stir fried with dried bean sprouts, egg, sweet turnip, red peppers, and chicken. Didn't disappoint!

No chicken in my General Tso's Chicken I paid an extra $2 for batter. Just a waste of money. Don't order this.

Classic chinese carryout. I got the shrimp & broccoli and it was great. Arrived quickly and was under $10. Would definitely go again.

Chuck... that's the owners name, everyone who came in knew his name. Parking wasn't an issue at…read more3ish. Cute little carry out. Stopped here because of the ratings and the cleanliness ratings on Yelp. I met a few Neighborhood patrons. I love DC. I love the culture. I used to live in DC but it seems as though my Texas accent is making me stick out like a sore thumb but the DMV is home. So many regulars come in and you know that it has to be a good little spot. We got the cheese steak, it came with American cheese not the white cheese... we got the beef and broccoli and also the orange chicken. I wouldn't give it 5 stars but definitely worthy of 4 stars. Customer service was great even though he had so many customers in and out who had called in orders. There are lots of carry outs off of this street so I'll know soon which is best!

The food is not inviting and bland in taste. I ordered two basic entres from the menu- shrimp fried…read morerice and peppered steak. The shrimp fried rice had more than enough rice -One eighth of the container contained a few shrimp the remaining 7/8ths of the container fried rice. The rice had plenty of brown color, lacked flavor, onions and eggs. The pepper steak had plenty of onions and gravy, very little peppers and steak. One had to search for the steak in the sea of gravy and onions. In general, both shrimp fried rice and peppered steak were very skimpy with respect to the main ingredients-shrimp and steak. The wait for the order was the best take away. The carry out needs a face lift to make it more inviting. The Carryout is along a strip of other small food business and vacant storefront buildings. The kicker is the business does not take credit cards- accepts cash only. What a bummer! The food is so bad the business only accepts cash.

When you're hankering for traditional Chinese-American style carry-out, you're not expecting…read more"authenticity" or "gourmet" or anything "fusion." No, what you're looking for is fast, no hassle, inexpensive, decent portion sizes, consistency across visits, and flavor. I've been surprised at how mediocre most Chinese-American carry-out -- or, frankly, the sit-down as well -- in DC is, but Hong Kong Carry-out hits all expectations. They don't deliver, but you can order via delivery services. But Hong Kong Carryout is so freaking fast I just usually order pick-up over the phone. When you order over the phone they end the call with "Okay, ready in 10 minutes." It takes me just about 10 minutes to drive from home to their location, and my order is almost always ready by the time I get there. I've tried a lot of dishes on the menu and the combos (smaller portion, but comes with a pile of fried rice and an egg roll) are a good deal. My regular order varies between the kung pao chicken, hunan beef, General Tso's chicken, szechuan beef, or lo mein. The egg rolls are the best I've found in DC, but the soups are just okay. The sleeper menu item is the Cold Noodle with Sesame Sauce. Again, if you're going here expecting something "epic," don't. If you're going here because you love traditional Chinese-American take-out joints and you appreciate fast, inexpensive, reliable, consistently above average dishes, you'll be satisfied.

Let me start with the best part-- the customer service. I called in my order. John had great energy…read moreand had no problem accommodating my request for light sauce on the sauteed broccoli. The restaurant is well-it and clean and they have duck, soy, and mustard on the counter so customers can grab as much as they want. SO much better than the spots that charge per pack. A really nice touch! The food is good. I got shrimp egg foo yung and hoped that it would have been more flavorful. It seemed to be lacking seasoning. Not salt, but something to add a richer flavor. BUT the gravy was not super heavy and cloying like it is at other places. So it does taste fresh. Same with the broccoli. It was a tad too crunchy, but that also made it seem fresh. A little more seasoning on the egg foo yung and a few more minutes on the broccoli and this spot could become my go to!

The service was great, and the restaurant itself was really pretty and had such a nice atmosphere. We all got the mango frozen cocktails, and they were AMAZING; so refreshing, and honestly the perfect pairing with the food. Everyone in our group ordered something different, and everything we tried was so good. I got the Thai vermicelli, and it was absolutely delicious! I also got to try some of my friends' dishes, and everything was flavorful and really well done. I'm usually pretty nitpicky when it comes to coconut curry sauces, but it was so perfectly balanced and flavorful. It was easily some of the best Thai food I've had in the DMV (honestly!). No complaints whatsoever. I'll definitely be returning next time I'm in the area! :)

The khao soi had good flavor, and it came with rice. The chicken wings were for my son, he said they were the best wings he's ever had. The beef curry had good flavor, but the beef was a bit overcooked. Service was a little bit of a miss. When the waiter first came, he asked us for our food order. However, we wanted to order drinks first. I was able to order my cocktail, however, the waiter left before anyone else at my table could speak to order a beverage. Food came out very quickly. This is not the type of place where you would want to enjoy drinks and food over a period of time. However, if you are super hungry, your food will definitely get to you quickly. Restaurant was crowded, but not super loud. Overall, I would come back for the food, I just wish that I could have more time to enjoy my restaurant experience.
