The service is getting worse. My main reason for visiting is the banana milkshakes. Hubby likes the burger deals. The cashier did not clarify my order. In spite of having a receipt, I didn't receive what I ordered. It shouldn't take an awkward conversation to get items paid for. Even with four or more employees, the process is slow. The area is sketchy. I only visit during the day. There are other places that have milkshakes. We can purchase checkers fries in the frozen section of grocery stores. read more

I used to always love checkers fries way better than McDonald's, but the checkers on New York Ave in DC is the worse of the worse. The fries taste like they been fried in old stale reused greased. Today 12/22/22 I ordered a 3 piece chicken tenders and the garlic Parm loaded fries..... I am beyond done with checkers now I was giving them a chance after all these years because I thought oh they have some new employees....but not the service is still the slowest ever and poor customer service and my food looks and taste like trash. read more

My name is Meredith and I stopped by Checkers to grab some food to go. This has been one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever experienced. Lonshahnda (Manager) greeted me with friendly smiles, professionalism and extremely prompt amazing service! All the food was was outstanding, super fresh and mouthwatering. Her dedication to excellent customer service and professionalism is second to none and reflects great credit upon herself and the Checkers brand. My overall rating undoubtedly is 5 out of 5 stars without hesitating. Lonshahnda (Manager) deserves a big raise and the biggest recognition/honorable mention for her amazing friendly service, attentiveness and professionalism. Thanks Checkers for hiring this jewel of an employee to represent your magnificent restaurant business! :o) read more

Checkers is good when it's craved. Otherwise it's just like all the other fast food chains - sometimes good sometimes bad sometimes gross etcetera etcetera etcetera. Well when it comes to DC's drive thru options, there aren't many so of course they'll be busy or slow or whatever. Fine by me. Can't win em all. I was at least greeted by a lovely gentleman at the window and I wish everyone were as happy as him :) read more

The food is really disappointing. I got the checkerburger with cheese and it was small with such a thin piece of meat and literally 10 shreds of lettuce (yes you can count how many). This is at the same price as MickyD, but worst in terms of appearance and taste. My boyfriend got 2 mushroomswiss burger deal and that was also small and unflavorful, when Mushroom Swiss burgers usually has blooming flavors of taste. read more

Worst Checkers Ever! Was stuck in traffic traveling downsouth when my wanted to stop here. No Hi! Welcome to Checkers...nothing, just how can I help you, we ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and received an uneventful, lazy and very uninspired sandwich. Gave us the food and just closed the window wtf. I included those uneventful, lazy and uninspired spicy chicken sandwiches in the photos. I know they make the most of their money during after club hours however, what about the folks who come during normal day hours smh. If I could give it zero stars and rate I would. Its 2 am early Friday morning, and I was hangry!!!! Before heading on 50E, this was a must. I wanted a greasy burger. Lines were long. I was in the drive thru for 20 minutes. I got 2/$5 mushroom swiss burger. That was good enough for me. If I got fries or a shake, I would regret it later. My burger was good. A little small but with lots of flavor. Service was good. Wait time was long but worth it as everyone there was playing gogo and good vibes all around. Friends got milkshakes, fries and a fish burger. No compliants. Food was fresh for everyone in my car. This will be my after club spot if Im in NE. read more

Have fun waiting 30 minutes for mediocre fast food. Better off going to the McDonald's across the street

On my way home from Costco I decided I would treat myself to a fast-food cheeseburger. Checkers burgers are consistently what checkers burgers are. What is not consistent is the rudeness at the drive-in cashier. She said something that was inaudible. So then I waited a little bit and then said hello and she said can I help you and I said oh I'm sorry I didn't realize you were waiting for my order. She said I wasn't waiting for your order (with an attitude )I told you to hold on. I apologized and proceeded with my order. Her attitude remained read more

I need to put an end to my french fry cravings. I always thought the french fries at Checkers are quite flavorful, and it's a good option when I don't want to have McDonald's french fries (which is next door). However, despite it being a drive through and there is also a walk-up counter, I have always had to wait over 10-15 minutes just for my $1.75 value fries. I have tried the drive through (there is always a line in the evenings), and I even decided to park my car and walk up to the counter because there were many cars on both of the drive through lanes. Even when you are pulling up to the speaker, sometimes the operator tells you to wait, and you have to wait for several minutes until they come back. I'm not sure what is going on and why they don't process orders more efficiently. There is definitely a demand, and I feel bad for those who have to wait so long for their orders, to include myself for sole order of french fries. Also, if you order french fries, don't forget to ask for ketchup. They don't include it unless you ask. read more

This was by far the worst fast food experience I had. I left the club at 1:30ish am and got to the drive thru by 1:42am, there were 2 cars in front of me and they took literally 15 min. With each car !!! I did not get to place my order until 2:16 AM & then I didn't receive it til 2:32 am ! I will NEVER go back to this place, the whole time the staff was talking amounted themselves and joking around. I would've pulled off and left 10 min. In but I was blocked in. (It's suppose to be FASTFOOD, it's far from FAST!) Terrible service and the food was not even fresh. They need a whole new management and service staff. read more

Today is Good Friday so I can only have fish today. The location is right where NY Ave and US-50 meet. I pulled into the parking lot and walked up to the window and was greeted by the order taker/cashier. I ordered a #8 again which is the double fish meal. It didn't take long before my order was ready. Since it was kinda warm today I decided to eat at Checkers. When I opened my order I was excited because they got the order correct and both the sandwich and the fries were piping hot....YES! The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because NY Ave is extremely loud with a considerable amount of traffic so having a conversation was very difficult but all in all I had a good experience compared to my last Checkers experience, not at this location; this experience was 10X better so I will definitely be back. I had no problem entering or exiting the premises...thanks Checkers NY Ave for restoring my faith in your company (Arnold Schwarzenegger voice) I'll be back read more

This place should just be shut down. I just wanted a large fries and I was greeted with "Take a minute to look at the menu and we will take your order". I ordered my fries. Same response. I said I did not need to look at the menu. Same response. After about 6 minutes a lady takes my order. The staff is consistently rude and incompetant. We arrived late into D.C. and needed some place to eat. So why not go here? It looked like it was poppin so we wanted to drop by. Turns out, that the drive through service is a bit spotty. We waited in front of the intercom for a good 5 minutes while the person on the other end kept telling us to wait... WAIT FOR WHAT?! WE WANT TO ORDER DAMNIT! Anyways, the menu is pretty extensive, the food is not bad at all, their fries are pretty good though. So I'm giving this 3 stars based on the service of the night. But I will say that their food is pretty darn good, especially the fries! read more

I didn't have any shady experiences with the drive-thru, but can't the Checkers chain expand in this region?! Their fries can't be beat, their burgers are better than the other fast food options, and its cheap. And seriously, these are the BEST fast food fries you will find: battered, seasoned, delicious. My best memories of Padres games as a youth was eating Big Buford burgers and Rally's (Checker's) fries while watching the Padres go on to a 100 loss season. This location is located right where 50 turns into New York Avenue, and is a good pitstop if you are cutting through the city. Geographically, it's the closest one to Arlington, although I've been known to drive to the Richmond Highway location in Alexandria also... Seriously, the fries are good enough to drive that far. read more

Long story short: check that you have everything you ordered before you leave, and don't let any of the cashiers pressure you into giving them a tip. Details: My wife and I ordered several things off the menu including a double checkerburger and a XL order of fries. When I pull up to the window the cashier tells me my total again and I hand him my credit card. Once he's got my card he then says "And I just want you to know we do accept tips and they are appreciated." Afterwards he stares at my wife and I for a few seconds which was long enough for me to pay him a dollar to stop making me uncomfortable. We have our food and leave, only to find out once we get home that our fries aren't in any of the bags he gave us and the double checkerburger I ordered is just a checkerburger. Thanks Checkers for conning me out of $5+ and paying gratuity for doing it. read more

I actually loved this checkers. When my mother in law was in the hospital we would come here and the food was so fresh and the food was really good. It did take a while though. But it was nothing outrageous like the others were saying. However today, I had a horrible service experience. This man was extremely angry and rude. It didnt help that the pa system is horrible. This is the worst Checkers I've ever visited. The customer service sucks. I mean u would think that when a customer approach the the walk up window they would say I'll be with u in a second, but instead they just look at u like ur crazy. The managers aren't any different let me take that back I'm not sure her name but the manager that works the late night shift she's dark skin and wears glasses. After I said something about there customer service she got a attitude like I did something wrong, and I go to this checkers about 3 or 4 times a week bcuz I'm a sucker for there fries. But they have got to do something about the service or every time I have bad service I'll be right back on here or calling corporate. IF U DON'T LIKE UR JOB FIND A NEW ONE. But I will give an employee name Tony 5 stars for good customer service when ever he's there no matter how busy he is he looks up an acknowledge u, and I think he should be rewarded for that read more

The staff was cool, and prompt so I give them 3stars.

The women that work here never give you eye contact when there taking your order. They never say hello or welcome they just look at you in your face until you start making your order. They'll never say have a nice day and they even carry on conversation with other employees while your trying to get there attention about something they missed. Just totally rude it's worth it to burn the extra gas to go somewhere else to eat I promise. read more

The most ghetto fast food place in DC. The burgers aren't cooked fresh. The employees are rude as hell they don't give a shit about your food or nothing. Michael B. was wonderful! We arrived in the drive thru and he promptly greeted us! Upon ordering he told us specials and other deals to match what we had ordered! Will definitely come back next time we're in DC just because of Michael B! This man deserves to be a store manager if he isn't already! Keep up the amazing work!! read more

You know what the food is like if you've ever been to this chain. It's also the same thing as Rally's if you've ever been to one of those. Burgers, chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, fries (crispy and covered in pepper, they're so yummy), it's your typical fast food. Checkers is either drive-thru or outside tables which is what really makes this location suck. Place right where 50 ends and NY Ave begins, if you sit outside you'll be breathing in massive amounts of exhaust as you listen to cars honk and tires squeal. Also, with all the traffic, it can be difficult to get in and out of their lot. read more

Oh man Oh man. This location has to be the MESSIEST place ever! I mean that in a good and bad way. Good as in the staff is definitely the local type to where it could either cause some to question them or you'll just enjoy them as you get to experience how they interact with each other and the customers. Bad in which you'll be waiting forever for your food. Doesn't matter if you're in Drive Thru or standing in line. The wait is there. And the location isn't the safest place to be. All kinds of stuff goes down there. Yet and still I LOVE this place! read more
