My coworkers and I are on a quest to find the best fried chicken in the DMV. Horace and Dickies off of H St. used to be our spot. INSERT SAD FACE HERE... On our way to another location on H Street last Friday, one of my colleagues pointed to H & Chicken (H&C) and said it should be our choice for the following Friday. So, we made our way back to H Street this Friday to check out H&C. Let me get to the point and say we had absolutely no serious regrets about anything we ordered. Although we had to park about two blocks from the location (IYKYK), it was worth it. When we arrived, there was a small line. But, it was moving pretty fast. When we got to the counter, the person taking our orders was very helpful at offering suggestions. If you don't want to go to the counter, there are kiosk where you can place your order. The one negative comment that I have about this location is that people who came in and placed their order(s) long after we did, received their order(s) before us. So, I don't know if there are any specifics into how they manage getting their orders out Outside of that, the food was really good. Each of us ordered just about the same thing which included chicken and fish. Where we differed a little bit was on the sides. Just about everybody ordered the M&C. Some of us ordered, french fries and greens, or potato salad, and greens. When you order the chicken, you automatically get a biscuit. Unfortunately, that is not the case when you order the fish. (OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPROVEMENT) So, some of us had to order a biscuit on the side. Overall, everything we ordered taste really good. However, I will say the noodles in the M&C were slightly overcooked, and there were a bit more stems in the collard greens than I would have preferred. But, the taste for both the M&C and the collard greens was on point. The fish and the chicken (including the mumbo sauce) gets a thumbs up. Everything was seasoned and fried well. It is my understanding H&C is open until 5 AM. So, if you're having a good time at one of the local establishments on H Street and it gets a little too late to go to a traditional fast food location or one of the restaurants on the corridor, I wouldn't hesitate to give H&C a try. The only thing I would be mindful of is there is limited space for dining in. So, you will probably have to order, grab, and go. I do want to note one important thing. If you are going to H&C for the Thursday and Friday chicken wing special, the H St. location does NOT honor that promotion. You will need to go to the Hyattsville location for that. Everybody in our group agreed that we will be returning. Happy eating! read more

This was the only late night food spot open near us. If you eat meat, particularly chicken, you'll be fine. People like their whole wings or tenders. Personally the pricing is crazily inflated. $22 a person for an entree and side. The collard greens are surprisingly decent. Inside there's no seating, just space to wait for your food to come out. The service is average timing, without a crowd it's pretty quick. read more

Quite possibly the rudest employees I've ever seen in my life 11 people are waiting for their orders and four people are standing around talking nobody cooking it's absurd. Cat food cold and it taste horrible. I would never go to this place again. I wouldn't even send my enemies here. read more

Best fried chicken in DC. Don't be fooled by Instagram. I'm from Memphis so this is the closest I have come to a hometown staple Jack Pirtle's. The Mac and cheese is good but the greens can use a revamp. read more

I went to this place around 1:30am on a month day night technically Tuesday morning, and let me just say I was pleasantly surprised. I was surprised they were still open that late, and I was surprised there was a crowd buying food. I was also surprised that the chicken was good and it tasted like they brined it in buttermilk. The mac & cheese was surprisingly delicious although I wish they would've put some pepper in it, but at least it wasn't soupy. I didn't really care for the collard greens. I think it overcooked a little bit on the top being under the light. I will definitely come back for the chicken. I also saw just about everyone in front of me ordered the chicken sandwiches so the chicken sandwich must be good and I will try that next time. Lastly, the guy who took my order which had to be a manager because he looked like he was in charge was very very nice and personable. read more

I order here from Uber Eats and let me tell you this place really surprised me . The chicken wings were small but very delicious and crispy. The waffle left syrup all in my beard and I guess that's my fault it was so good . I would def order chicken and waffles from This place again being that there open in the middle of the night. It's a great place to order when it's a big back emergency.o and the Mac and cheese was good read more

My flight landed later than expected on Sunday and I was way too tired to go anywhere, so I decided to order H and Chicken through DoorDash. Let me just say I am very glad I did. That waffle and those chicken wings were exactly what I needed after a long travel day. The waffle was sweet, the wings were flavorful, and together they definitely made my stomach happy. It was one of those meals where you take the first bite and immediately know you made the right decision. Next time I'm in DC, H and Chicken will definitely be on my list of places to eat again. read more

Tried to call to cancel an order when the address defaulted to the wrong store, but they don't have a valid phone number. Frustrating because I selected the correct store at check out, and then I couldnt even call to get it fixed. The website just redirected me to a bad phone number. read more

It's a nice late night spot after you drink, bye I ordered today and uuum the only reason I'm taking a star away is I didn't expect to have so many big pieces of chicken. lol ok no I added the star back because I love the Mac n cheese. However...there is no phone number to call. It's all good bc the food was good, customer service is good, and nothing was missing. So...h and chicken is on point. 5 stars!!! Customer service is very bad. The Guy taking the order refused to make eye contact with black people. No one says thank you, the staff doesn't greet you when you enter the store. Food is decent late night option if everything else is closed read more

This restaurant is more of a fast casual spot that serves chicken, breakfast, & Mexican plates. I had the best meal here for just arriving to the area. It was exactly what i needed and i went home so happy after eating here. My chicken fajita came out steaming and had all the toppings and sides. It lowkey felt like a plate my mom would make me which was super nostalgic. The service was friendly & the food didn't take too long. I would def check out this spot. From the outside view, it doesn't look too promising but i promise it's worth it ! read more

I ordered through DoorDash with a special on the advice of a student. The chicken was well cooked and the variety of sauces available is sure to be helpful. I tried out the H sauce and it tasted very familiar. I couldn't place my finger on it but it was great! The fries were good as well. I received my order on time and SEALED. The best part to me was the fact that there was no blood on the bones of the chicken. My next order I'll upload pictures, lol. read more

Possibly the worst food I've ever tried in my life. I came in hungry looking for some fast food. Ordered their "chicken sandwich" w fries. Took a bite and literally threw up. The smell itself was weird, felt like cancer. One bite and couldn't handle (mind you I was hungry). This is an absolutely disgusting place. Please don't spend your money here. Absolutely disgusting. I will be requesting a refund. read more

I ordered chicken & waffles online, picked up and came back to hotel. Zero syrup for the waffles and no hot sauce for the chicken. Instead they gave me honey mustard. My daughter shared her mumbo sauce with me. There was too much traffic for me to drive back. Chicken and waffles were decent. Syrup and hot sauce would have made a huge difference . Employees were friendly though. read more

One of my favorite late night spots. The food hits!! I usually order on DoorDash for pick up. Always have a good deal!!

We tried this place and had the food delivered. This is the only picture I got. The food was still hot when it was delivered. The waffle was not as fluffy due to the packaging bit was tasty. I will try again when I have more time. read more

Good late night place to get fried chicken and waffle combos, gyro combo, salads, and cooked food. But don't order delivery because it's pickup during late night. We ordered on their website at 1:10am after the storm and hurricane got us into town past midnight. The website app says delivery was available until 3am. I paid for the order, including $3.99 delivery fee, then suddenly I get a text from Door Dash that the order is a pickup...I WAS SO FRUSTRATED. We had to get into another Uber/Lyft just to pick it all up. This is a small place with 10-12 person capacity bar-top eating tables, ambiance is a quick and fast dining spot. They had a whole bunch of fried chicken already fried and available on their food heater counter; looked delicious. The owner went to a heated closed case to get my order (there were 2-3 other orders in there) and he was cool. There is a homeless man out front, directly in your walking path, asking for "a little help". It's 1:30am so I don't know if he is there during the day. My order was ready and so we paid and ordered another Uber/Lyft to take us back to our place (15min away in car and 39min by foot). My daughter suggested Uber Eats next time. Waffles are delicious, chicken was good, mac & cheese tasty, and drinks were cold. Pricey adventure and we will try again during ideal dining hours. read more

Wanted to try this place out since I had a take out coupon. My friends tore up the chicken tenders and waffles. I deduce they were good. They raved about the generous portions. My fried chicken was good and crispy. The batter was good. The chicken wasn't dry. The collards were ok. Mac and cheese was ok. Needed some salt but otherwise one of the better Mac and cheese's I've tasted in the city. I'd order from here again. read more

While visiting DC, I was in my hotel room and got hungry. I placed an order via DoorDash at 6:37pm on a Friday night. The order had an estimated delivery time of between 7:34pm and 7:44pm. I ordered Waffle and 4 Chicken wings for $13.99. The dasher picked up the order at 6:55pm and I received my food around 7:05pm. With my order was 3 packs of hot sauce, 2 syrups, and 1 fork. There were no napkins, unfortunately. I enjoyed the food. I liked the powdered sugar on the waffle and the chicken was crispy. I was definitely glad it arrived sooner that expected. read more

Late night in DC......... Not in the mood for IHOP, or checkers, or McDonalds. A buddy ask me...... You ever been to Crown Chicken (H&Chicken) 1 Star = Its not good 2 Stars= Something's missing 3 Stars= It's ok 4 Stars= It's good 5 Stars= It's Bangin! There are many places that serve chicken and waffles. .........I take that back. There are many places who wish they could call what they serve....chicken and waffles. H&Chicken has done something special that I do not believe can be replicated. The sweet....soft.....powdery sugary waffle is second to none. The chicken, not the best chicken wings in terms of size, however they are Mighty tasty. It's like sweet and salty but not to salty....it's.....its....it's........its a party down in tummy town. It's not a meal by far, it's a satisfying snack. I've ordered there other food before like greens, baked Mac and cheese, and fried chicken. It was a solid 4, but that's not what this is about. I'm from Chicago so I'm fine with going there around 2 in the morning. Still, I suggest going there during 9-5 business hours. H&Chicken Chicken and waffles are Bangin! I am Critic. read more
