I recently stopped by the waffle shop for breakfast with a close friend. I've seen this place being advertised for many years and this is the first time I've tried it. They have a pretty straightforward menu. I got the breakfast waffle that came with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and three waffles. Definitely filling. Customer service was great as well. It has a real diner feel inside. Great breakfast spot that I look forward to trying again.

Came in for waffles and got blessed with a free pizza! The staff are super kind and the food was fantastic. Probably the best waffle I've ever had and the pizza was right up there with it.

This was a great experience! Burger with a waffle for the bun.

The space itself is bright and airy and a bit on the noisy side. But the service was very good, and the food was served quite quickly. I've been on a shakshuka kick lately, so I opted for the the Sweet Potato Shakshuka, which is described as: Sweet Potato Curry, with Chickpeas and Sunny Eggs with a the chicken add-on - gotta get that protein in, after all. This was one of the most unique shakshukas I'd ever had... It literally tasted like a curry dish you might get at your local Indian restaurant, with a bit of a brunch flair to it. The curry itself had a wee bit of spice and was a bit sweet - but that could have been from the sweet potatoes. The chicken was served in a bowl on the side, which felt a bit... odd... I would've expected it to be incorporated into the main dish. It was kind of bland and a bit lukewarm, so I don't know that I'd order that again... but I would definitely order this again!

The Tikka dish with fried egg was tasty, but wish paneer or larger protein option was built-in (not an upcharge)! The creamy red Tikka curry sauce, caramelized onions, crispy brussel sprouts, and fried ere tasty and paired well, the dish felt incomplete and something was missing, maybe some paneer or naan? I paid $5 for a side of zesty naan topped with different spices and really wish it came with the dish just came with it. While I was tempted to order the falafel, I couldn't justify shelling out another $5 for another upcharge and spend $10 on them for a total of $26 for just an entree - when these 2 upcharges should have been included in the entree by default. Wish there were more fun vegetarian dishes on the menu. Might come back for drinks and to explore the menu!

Chicken and waffles meal was really delicious! The farmer's scramble was really nice as well, and it had a ton of vegetables. Really loved the vegetarian options! Breakfast is available all day. The second time I got the brunch pasta (with maple breakfast sausage- such a unique offering) and washed it down with a downright heavenly Cinnamon Toast Crunch-inspired boozy milkshake. Love the food so much that I insisted on bringing some out-of-town friends here for brunch on a Saturday. I noted the 75-minute dining limit in the OpenTable confirmation, which we had every intention of respecting, so I was a little miffed when the host came by very soon after we paid (about 45 minutes into the reservation) and asked if there was anything else they could do for us (the polite way of saying "get out, we need your table"). We definitely got the message, kind of laughed about it, and my friend got up to use the restroom before we left. On his way back he saw some of the staff pointing at our table and referring to us as the ones who refused to leave. I would understand if we'd sat there yapping for two hours, but 45 minutes was too soon to put on the pressure. Being made to feel unwelcome immediately after taking the last sip or bite cast a pall over an otherwise fantastic meal.

Although probably first established while Friends was still on the air, Tryst has kept up with the comings and goings of Adams Morgan, reiterating itself with changes in the local culture and the arts, which are often on display. The building itself has a narrative to it, but it's the centrality of this respite from 'everywhere else' that makes Tryst stand out, lets it occupy memories of comfort and hospitality in my mind, keeps pulling at me to visit time and again. If it wasn't for Tryst, I doubt professional and personal lows would have turned out so rosy, in the end, for me.

Personally, I've visited Tryst more time than I can count, and at literally all time of the day. I've definitely taken full advantage of Tryst's extended hours to fuel many, many late-night study and work sessions. I love how cozy the space is, with their slightly worn but super comfy couches and armchairs, dim lighting, and ambient cafe music. The staff is super friendly; you can either order from the counter if you're taking your order to go or just snag a spot and wait for the servers to make their way to you.

Keeping it short, waffles aren't rocket science, but most others cut corners and serve up cheap, reheated frozen waffles - and not even good ones. In contrast, this truck does it right. They serve up freshly made belgian-style waffles that have the slight crunch on the outside and soft and smooth texture inside. Taking a page from the crepe trucks, these guys offer up both Sweet and Savory waffle dishes. Sandwiches and platters on the savory side, and hot, sweet waffles piled with sweetness on the dessert side. I had a Croque Monsieur (Ham & Cheese) sandwich and a Caramel Waffle. Both complimented each other well as the sandwich was just salty enough and the caramel waffle was just sweet enough...not too sweet. They have so many options to choose from, it will take a while to get through the menu...but I will try! I will definitely be back for more. These guys know what they doing and care about offering quality food. If they could add a traditional chicken & waffle to their menu (they offer a couple of variants), that would be icing on the cake...or, in this case, syrup on the waffle!
