Everything at this place is so unbelievably BOMB. The menu is killer and has something for everyone. The service is so kind. They have a very cool coffee selection. Everything is priced exactly the way it should be. There's seating outside for small parties. This place is the embodiment of DC cuisine and I highly recommend it for everyone.
Had brunch here with a DC local, recently. It really is a diamond in the rough and feels like a NYC bodega. The staff were very friendly and I liked the decor inside, feels really unique. I ordered the ETHIOpian STYLE X (Sambosa) with the eggs and injera. It was very cooked very well, and I enjoyed the spices and flavor profile. I wished the particular dish came with more options, although this place has plenty of choices on the menu. Heat Da Spot a fast casual experience, unlike a late-night dining experience at somewhere like CherCher. However, place is bustling with locals for great reason. It works for meeting up with friends or grab-and-go meals. I'd highly recommend to drop by for a visit!
When you walk into Heat Da Spot it automatically feels like you've stepped into your grandma's kitchen--homey and filled with love. There's highlight menus everywhere on the wall with things that they offer. What stood out most was the sign above the register that says, " Do not rush the chef. We're not fast food. Your food is made with love. Place your order and sit on the throne kings and queens" lol I loved this sign so much. It reminded me to chill out so I sat down and enjoyed a soursop drink while my to go order was being made. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. Unfortunately I was not really a fan. It seemed like a small portion for the price. The egg tasted weird and microwaved and the bagel tasted like a Thomas bagel you would get from the grocery store. The bagel also came with a special spicy green sauce that I wasn't too fond of. I think the next time I will just go for the Ethiopian breakfast. Service was great, I'll return to try something else.
I happened to be in Washington DC for work and stumbled across this spot close to the Howard University Campus. I went with the Sausage Omelette and added bacon. This thing was AMAZING. It was packed with green peppers, tomatoes, red onions, potatoes and cheese. The toast came with light butter and a honey drizzle. If you are OK with somewhere where the decor is not so fancy, this place is a GEM. The owner was so accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure I enjoyed the experience. Their honey cinnamon iced coffee with cream was a winner. Oh, I was also able to log onto my laptop to get a few work items done due to the free WIFI. Please check them out.
What a cute spot for breakfast! Shoutout to the DC CM Sydney for bringing me here while I was visiting DC! It's a great local business with the friendliest staff and a large menu of breakfast and lunch items - mainly specializing in Ethiopian food but they also have just about everything you could think of. I ordered a sausage egg and cheese on a biscuit and swapped the hashbrown with a side of home fries. My plate came out with 2 sandwiches! I was so full after the one I couldn't even dig into the second. There's limited indoor seating and some great seating outside. All around a very flavorful and friendly place for sure!!
I can't believe how long I've lived here and haven tried this place yet. Heat da spot is an Ethiopian cafe that has a large menu of Ethiopian and American breakfast items. I didn't come for lunch, so I'm not sure what's on their lunch menu. I came around 11 am and got the Ethiopian-style breakfast, which came with injera, a lentil sambusa, scrambled eggs with Ethiopian spices, tomatoes and onion, and their "secret" green sauce. The eggs were some of the best eggs I've ever had, they had so much flavor, and the secret sauce that came with it added a sharp, herbal flavor (i don't know what's in it- it says there is no cilantro or avocado on the bottle). It was $25, which was a little expensive for breakfast, but it is enough for two meals. The inside is really cute, with lots of antique items. They have seating on the inside and outside in a covered patio. My food came out very quickly and the service was friendly.
This was our best meal in DC, by far. The eclectic Ethiopian breakfast menu was wild (and maybe a bit overwhelming), but amazing. The injera and egg dishes were unreal, but it was clear you could not go wrong here. The seating felt like someone's home, with various couches and coffee tables filling the restaurant. The coffee was one of the standout things they served; I'm not sure what they're doing with the coffee, but it was one of the better quality coffees I think I've ever had. I stopped by this Ethiopian spot just outside DC and was blown away by how flavorful everything was. The injera was some of the softest bread I've had perfect for scooping up all the different dishes. Every item we tried was packed with flavor, and there were plenty of both vegetarian and meat options to choose from. Inside it's a bit on the cramped side, especially if you're coming with a larger group, but there is additional seating toward the left side once you get inside which helps. The woman working there was an absolute sweetheart and helped me a ton when I felt a little overwhelmed by all the menu options. She was patient, kind, and gave great recommendations. Overall, really delicious food and a welcoming experience. I would definitely return. read more

So this place is fascinating -- great food, chill vibe, toddler doable-ish with some creativity... Food/drinks: veg platter (works for two - fyi), Ethiopian breakfast, smoothie, and tea were all fantastic. Gluten free injeera is available for surcharge. Well seasoned. And enjoy the spicy homemade green sauce as well; it's worth it! Service: Fine but you do have to do some work. You stand in line, order at the counter, and then they bring the food to you wherever you're sitting. Comes quick-ish. Ambiance: quirky. Main room has traditional furniture with royal-like chairs; it was crowded and people were working from there. Outside there's a heated patio situation; it's all bumper to bumper but we snagged a perfect space for a toddler. Lingering is not the norm for group meal/date. Kid-friendly? Saw no high chairs, would not want to bring stroller in, did find seating space that let her move more freely. Best part: this place is not precious. I'm not mad at it. Would do it again! read more

3 years later and Heat Da Spot remains one of my favorite spots in DC. I love their traditional Ethiopian breakfast, but literally everything on the menu is delicious! And the service is amazing--you can really tell the love and care they put into every meal they make. read more

The first thing that jumps out about Heat Da Spot is the homey vibe of the space, which feels like you're in a friend or family member's living room. There are lounging chairs for conversing, vintage antiques, wifi for remote working, radio playing in the background, and even a printer. Matching the ambiance, the staff makes you feel like you're at home with their friendly service and hospitality. The menu provides a wide array of American and Ethiopian food. I ordered the Ethiopian breakfast, which provides a more-than-filling hearty meal. Served with eggs, onions, pepper, lentils, injera and secret sauce, the dish is full of flavor. It also comes with sambosa, which adds a little bit of sweetness to the plate. To emphasize the great service from my experience, the workers noticed that I was soon running low on injera while I was eating and gave me extra without me even asking. read more
Yelp helped us find this cute little corner restaurant with great decor and a never evening menu! It's easier to navigate with the help of the friendly staff! We had no idea what to expect, having only eaten at an Ethiopian restaurant once before many years ago. We didn't know if we should eat more traditional breakfast, so we went with a blend. My husband ordered the Honey Iced Coffee and really enjoyed it. I had the Iced Chai and it was also good. It's not super sweet chai. For breakfast, one of my sons went traditional and had a French toast bacon egg and cheese sandwich. He loved it! My husband, son, and myself split the beef tips with spinach and the Ethiopian breakfast dish. Both were very flavorful (and a little spicy). What made everything special was the *special sauce* that tasted like everything it wasn't (nut, cilantro, avocado). The sauce is a gem. 4 STARS! Parking on the street wasn't too bad, they had decent outdoor seating, the wait wasn't long, service was great, and servings were large. I'm not a fan of spicy, so the flavor profile was definitely unique to me. It's a little pricey, but it's the city. read more

The food, the service, the atmosphere, completely amazing. I found this gem via Apple Maps, they were featured on theinfatuation.com, and IMPT Must Black Owned Brunch. Timi gave us the best service, mind you we arrived at 2:11 pm and they close at 3:00 pm. We didn't feel rushed, she actually told us to take our time with ordering, and when It came time to place our order; she gave her seal of approval, and OMG, yes this food was/ is delicious! read more

Was recommended this spot by a friend and was intrigued to try because I've never had Ethiopian food! My husband and I decided to share the Ethiopian style breakfast, which was soooo good. I honestly was not completely sure what I was eating but flavors were incredible. What made the meal was the special green sauce. So tasty! Will definitely be back. read more

$30 for what you see in the picture. A small plate with ground beef, feta cheese, spinach and injera. The beef was spicy, the spinach was just plain sautéed spinach and there was plain feta cheese. Injera was cold and flavorless except for a little sour taste. Also a latte. I would say the total should be $15 but it was $30 for lunch for one person. Prices are not posted on the wall, so be sure to ask before ordering. read more

I came here for the second time with a friend and I got the same thing as last time, the Ethiopian breakfast platter. My friend ordered the waffles with fried chicken platter. We both koved it! We even had the same Server as last time and I'm sure that he remembered us. He served us remakably fast, and even checked on is mid-way throigh our meal. This ethnic restaurant is quite unique for the city, and it's sort of hidden, actually located around Petworth. Serveral other folks had the same plan this morning, and there were only abdew tables left. All of their seating is located inside of their enclosed patio, it's almost like a greenhouse. The breakfast platter was just what I needed. This restaurant has fast become one of my favorites, and I would highly reccomend it. read more

High rating for a reason! Good spots with TONS of options to choose from. We enjoyed our food a lot and will make this place a regular stop. I wasn't the biggest fan of their coffee. I got a chai latte and it had way too much milk in it. Food wise...amazing. read more
I enjoyed my breakfast here. The Ethiopian aspect was enjoyed however the majority of their menu seems to cater to the domesticated aspect of food. I read many great reviews but I was on vacation & indulged in something I couldn't get at home. The dish was huge to say the least & actually was pretty good however I wanted something more complicated. I'm not sure what I expected. Don't mistake this for the dish being bad I just suspected that Etonian food was more exotic for lack of a better term. The staff person was extremely approachable & warm. My quest for the holy grail as far as breakfast in the D.C area continues. read more

I've been meaning to get to Heat Da Spot forever and finally made time for breakfast yesterday. When I arrived they had a good number of people enjoying their food on the patio, and I was so impressed by the cozy decor. Their cafe chairs look like thrones! Their menu (both breakfast and lunch) are all listed with pictures around the front counter. I wish they had a compiled list on a menu (either in hand or online) to get a better idea of the options. I wanted something on the go, so I opted for a veggie and cheese breakfast wrap. The wrap itself was delicious: perfectly cooked eggs, melted cheese, the veggies were cooked just right, and the seasoning/sauce was delicious. My main issue was that the wrap was *wet*. It ended up being easy enough to eat but much messier than it needed to be. I will definitely be back to try out other options, but will probably avoid the wrap next time. read more

Ordered a sausage egg and cheese online around 9:30 on a Sunday morning and it was done within about 7min. I remember thinking "Damn, $10 is kinda expensive for a sandwich". When I came inside to pick it up I realized I forgot to order coffee. So I asked if I could get the "honey cinn. iced" that was on the coffee menu (didn't have a price next to the menu), but I asked if I could get it hot instead. For the sandwich it's definitely worth the $10. It was a very thick sandwich and they didn't skimp on the egg. Came with a spicy green and flavorful sauce on the side which was delicious. However, the coffee was not worth the $11 I paid for :( Idek what made it that price. I didn't order any substitutes and aside from the $1 I gave as a tip I was confused but decided to pay for it because maybe it was some type of special Ethiopian latte. Boy was I wrong. It just tastes like regular (and veryyyy light) drip coffee with a splash of milk. No honey or cinnamon taste. I was disappointed enough to take two stars off since this is suppose to be a Café afterall and coffee is a huge factor in that. read more
Came here for breakfast on a Tuesday morning soon after they owned. I was served right away and had the best seat in the house. However seating is super limited and pretty tight. They seem to be going more for to go/delivery business, but if you can swing a seat and don't mind being comfortable with strangers, I highly recommend giving this spot a try! I had the Ethiopian breakfast combo which has firfir, scrambled eggs, kinche with injera. The firfir was the absolute star of the meal, super flavorful with just the right amount of spice. It mixes very well and adds a nice flavor to the other items, so I'd recommend mixing all of them together before digging in I did try some of their secret sauce on the eggs/kinche. It was quite tasty and you'd be well served to douse anything like eggs/kinche that are lighter on their own flavor wise with it, but I enjoyed the firfir more without the sauce personally Overall I think this is a great spot to give Ethiopian breakfast a try! But it is a roll of the dice if you're looking for a sit down spot read more

This place is unique because... its hard to find good breakfast and it's hard to find good Ethiopian food in the mornings. The options are few and far in between worldwide. Heat DA SPOT provides both. They have kind of infused their Ethopoan Culture into the American-culture and created a masterpiece. And did I mention the food is exceptional! I've been wanting to eat here since before the pandemic, at the time they had a buffet, but it was always hard to get my wife to go. BUT THIS WAS MY BIRTHDAY WEEK and I was able to convince some of my Ridas to go and THIS PLACE DELIVERED! Tips Get the vegan omelet vegan not with real meat even if your not vegan; Someone at the table needs to order the traditional breakfast so everyone can try it Plan your visit, it can get busy on Sat Mornings and other peak times read more

THIS IS IT! THIS IS THE ONE! THE BEST BREAKFAST I HAD WHILE IN DC! The whole experience was delightful. We went on a Friday morning and they had a full house! Small amount seating inside and a few spots outside. The food was so So SOO flavorful! You can tell that they truly care about the food they are preparing. The owners were there preparing the food and bringing it out. When I tell you they were so friendly! The food had the right amount of spice to it that kept you wanting more. My coffee was delicious and made how I like it! I literally have no complaints, besides that they aren't in my city lol read more

Found this cute little spot on Georgia Ave when craving a homemade breakfast sandwich on my way to work. Google came through and I was there right at 7:30am when they opened. The decoration inside is super cute and antique. It is also a cafe with access to a printer so you can also stay a while and work. The food options are endless along with fresh fruit options, yogurts and various beverages. They even have some Ethiopian influenced dishes. I opted for a breakfast wrap and a hot chocolate. Both were amazing! Not sure what they put in their cocoa but it tasted like pure milk chocolate! The wrap came with a side of a green sauce. Not sure what it was exactly but it added a get taste to the wrap as well. The food and venue were amazing but the highlight for me was the amazing customer service! The staff was extremely pleasant and patient. They were kind and friendly and I had an overwhelming sense of feeling welcome. Truly found a gem and excited to be a frequent customer! read more
A well-deserved five stars. I first attempted to come during their 'winter break' last month, Im glad i remembered to circle back to them. Place is small, not many seats, but looks like half the clientele took their food to go anyway (and for such a small place, they seem to get good business and regular customers). The cashier/owner was soooo so sweet and friendly, and engages her customers. They have many different offerings of drinks. Various lattes, homemade sodas, flavored iced teas, etc. I tried the Golden Tea, it wasnt quite as sweet as i hoped but delicious nonetheless- i didnt end up adding any sweetener cuz it was good enough. My blueberry iced tea was good too, not too sweet like some places. THE FOOD THOOOO!! I had the Ethiopian Breakfast with sambusa and also added hash browns since i read good things. Every bite was PACKED with flavor, the green hot sauce even made me skip the ketchup for my hash browns. They need to sell that! I have to add this to my list of go-to breakfasts in the city! read more

Came here for brunch and it was soooo delicious!!! We got the Ethiopian breakfast and a couple other dishes to split. Our favorite was the Ethiopian breakfast!! It was so flavorful and seasoned and their secret sauce with it was soooo yummy!! The owner is super nice and he treated us just like family!! He offered us more bread and was so kind and welcoming!! The seating area is a little cramped but everything else more than makes up for that. I will definitely be returning this was one of my favorite places we ate at!! read more
