    Turkey BLT and potato wedges.
    Torya M.

I must say I love this place after visiting twice and ordering the same meal. I ordered the Turkey BLT wrap add cheese and dijon mustard. On my 1st visit I ordered the wrap only but now on my 2nd visit I ordered it with potato wedges. I enjoyed it all and the potato wedges were well seasoned. The staff are friendly and inviting, the restaurant is spacious with outdoor seating, and they serve alcohol. That's right ALCOHOL and some for $5! I do enjoy the personal touch the staff provides when your order is ready. They will bring it to you with an "enjoy your meal" when you depart. Will be my go-to when I'm in the mood for cheap eats on my lunch break and if I'm feeling a little spicy I'll order a clearwater margarita ($5) or a Tito's to go!

I have passed this place so many times on the weekend, and it has always been closed. I made a mental note to stop in on a weekday for lunch. The cafe is really spacious and rather darkly lit. There were not many people inside dining. About a third of the cafe was being used to pack box lunches, so I'm guessing they must do a decent amount of catering. The lady at the register was very friendly and offered suggestions. The price of the food was pretty cheap compared to other fast lunch spots. I ordered the Mushroom Florentine wrap with goat cheese. The flavor was great! But the wrap got really soggy almost immediately. I only had a 3 minute walk back to my office, but the wrap was already really wet and drippy by the time I got back. It made the wrap really messy to eat! This detail aside, the food was yummy and filling. It only cost $10 for a substantial lunch. I would come back again and try another menu item.

Catfish sandwich was great. Fries not crispy enough.

Impressively delicious catfish sandwich. Nice outdoor seating. Smooth service. Will go back!

This was catered for my work. First, I'll start with the highlights. The tomato basil soup was absolutely delicious. The flavor was very rich and it warmed your organs with the first spoonful. Perfect for the chilly weather. I was also very impressed with what came in the catering box. There is everything you need for a full meal besides the sandwich, such as the salad and the Blondie for dessert, as well as condiments, a napkin, utensils, and a hand wipe for cleaning. Even though I was very much looking forward to the sandwich, I found it a bit lacking. The pesto wasn't very flavorful, and despite it being on the sandwich, I found the sandwiches bread to be a bit dry. I also felt that there was a disproportionate amount of bread relative to the rest of the sandwich. I understand that this is a café and they're probably not used to such wide and large orders, but overall I probably would go to a different sandwich shop if I'm looking for a sandwich.

Knew I loved this place from the moment I told the cashier my meal was 'for here' and she said 'ok, I'll bring it to you with silverware, don't get the plastic' - I can't tell you how much I appreciate that as we all need to be a more cognizant of our waste (especially plastic) usage. Cloth napkins were a nice touch as well. Now on to the food.... I had the Egg and Smoked Gouda, add avocado, side of Fruit. What I really wanted was the fried chicken biscuit, add egg with home fries....but that will have to wait for another time. The sandwich was delicious. The Gouda was super tasty and the avocado set this baby off! Very high quality food, in the heart of DC, at a good price - highly, highly recommend this place!

Some of the highest quality food available for lunch in this area (west end to 17th street area). I work in the area and have tried much of the competition. They focus on higher quality ingredients and to charge for products that way. I will be back soon to try the coffee (another reviewer mentioned it was great). They emphasis things are made from scratch and in house. I ordered the Turkey BLT ($9.5) with 'in House Roasted Koch Farm's Turkey Breast, Applewood Smoke Bacon & Mayo'. This is a high end sandwich and it tasted that way (the care of ingredients, quality of bread). They put the sandwich with some salad in the container, I like that touch (see photos). Delicious and solid sandwich, enjoyed it. Pricing: As mentioned in some other reviews the pricing is to be discussed. I really enjoyed my Turkey BLT and would return to get it again, however is $9.50 the right price for it? I think $9.50 including chips is the right approach (I bought Route 11 chips with the Turkey BLT). You have to find balance - on the one hand we want restaurants to focus on quality (what they use, how they make it) yet this area of DC has extremely high lunch competition (dinner not so much). The pricing is not that far off, we joke that most lunches cost about $10 in this part of DC (no matter where you go) however if you grab a sandwich and chips (with tax this will push them into the higher end pricing. Either way I will return, the TBLT was outstanding.

The place is carved up into unique spaces, from dark private lounge areas to dining spaces to sun-soaked dining rooms. It is a visual treat! As for food, I tried several Starters and mostly enjoyed them. I started with the Tabard donut because why not start a meal with dessert right?! And when it's named after the establishment it has to be good. And it was! The sugar sprinkled cake donut was warm and tasty - a must try! I also ordered the corn soup. It was a small bowl of, you guessed it, kernel corn infused soup base with a crusty covering. The shell (reminded me of crème brûlée) was good, but I was a bit disappointed that the soup was only lukewarm. The best part of the meal was the hush puppies. They had a bit of a spicy kick and were slightly greasy, but they were a comfort food delight! I will definitely get more of them when I return! I consider this place a must try...you heard it here first (or third or fortieth...)

This was one of the most unique shakshukas I'd ever had... It literally tasted like a curry dish you might get at your local Indian restaurant, with a bit of a brunch flair to it. The curry itself had a wee bit of spice and was a bit sweet - but that could have been from the sweet potatoes. The chicken was served in a bowl on the side, which felt a bit... odd... I would've expected it to be incorporated into the main dish. It was kind of bland and a bit lukewarm, so I don't know that I'd order that again... but I would definitely order this again!

I've been a few times over the years, and here are some notes from my most recent visit. I got a last minute reservation for 4 people at 7 PM on a Sunday, thanks to Resy notifications. They sat us in the back, which is not the best seating area, but sometimes you take what you can get. The back area is not the most spacious or prettiest area. I sampled a carafe of red wine, a cheese plate, the delicious (free) bread basket, the black bass grenobloise, and trout amandine. The carafe was perfectly fine; I'm not into wine enough to judge. The cheese plate ($6.5 per piece) was an okay size and came with some honey, jam, marcona almonds, and four slices of bread -- the bread was different from the white and cranberry-walnut in the main bread basket; this one was a smaller loaf, sliced thin, with some grains and apricot (?) in it. There are apparently 11 different cheeses to pick from, which the waiter had to recite to us. A small, printed cheese menu would be welcome here. We only heard about 5 of the cheeses before we decided to just pick some, because who wants to listen -- and remember -- the spiels about 11 different cheeses? The Black Bass Grenobloise ($34) had pomme puree, capers, and lemon. It was ok but I preferred the trout. The Trout Amandine ($36) had toasted almonds (lots), haricots verts, lemon brown butter. It was a classic rendition and it was great. Service was friendly, if a little slow.

Novice was the bartender and recommended the Proper burger. I added my typical fries and a Diet Coke. The burger came out quickly. Right off the bat, it's visually amazing. A properly stacked Burger is hard to find. The 2 best things about this burger are 1. The taste , and 2. The form of the burger. The taste is absolutely fantastic. The Gouda paired perfectly with the red onions and the perfectly cooked, juicy beef patties. The aioli was just enough and not overbearing, like looking at a painting of a castle and noticing the subtle blurred background of misty forest. The arugula added another layer of flavor that helped kick this burger into the highest echelons of Burger superiority. And of course, the brioche bun was perfect for this style of burger. It kept its shape while I gently smushed it down in my hands. The entire burger kept its shape and didn't fall apart like some other Burgers will. As I sank my teeth into the first bite, the first thing I noticed was all the flavors blending together. Each bite afterwards just added to my mystified and puzzled bewilderment. The texture was moist and soft. As I chewed and swallowed each morsel, I began to think to myself, is this it? Is my search over? Is this the BEST burger in the country? Never had I tasted such a wonderful burger! (Sorry In-N-Out 2x1, raw onions, chopped chilis, toasted bun, you are no longer on the top of my list). As I neared completion of my newly discovered epitome of gluttonous desires, a feeling of sadness started to take over. I would be done with the burger in a few more bites, and with that, my journey would conclude. I sat there, staring at what would be my final bite. The last bit of pleasure in between my slender fingers, still dripping with the juices God had placed there after it was grilled to perfection in the Kitchen. I placed the final delectable piece into my mouth. I spent what felt like an eternity chewing this treasure before finally gulping down the goblet of wonder. What came after was a feeling of pure bliss. I had finally done it. All the years, all the time dedicated to finding the best Burger ever, is complete.
