Man what can I say? They really came through for me with a great meal! I ordered the turkey wings with collards and cabbage via UberEats because it was crazy hot outside. The food came really fast. It was hot! It was flavorful. Great portions too! For a decent price too! It was outstanding! I'd order from them again. If the weather stays like this it may be sooner! read more

Overall: 5/5 - Will be back! Def top 3 soul food spots for me. Food: 5/5 - Wings (w/ mumbo sauce) was BANGINGGGG. The crunch was just how I like them and it was the perfect amount of sauce on the wings. The mumbo sauce was really good as well, because as we all know...everybody do not have good mumbo sauce lol -Whipped yams was A-mazing because this is how I like to eat my yams. They were not too sweet to me and I don't really eat sweets anymore, so I was expecting them to possibly be overly sweet for my palate but they were perfect. -Collard Greens were great as well. Really good flavor. They do have a small kick to them though, but it's manageable and I ate them all. I really don't like spicy foods so on the spice level I give it a 1/5 which is a good thing. If you do like a kick to your greens then you will love them, but if you do not like spicy at all I'd say skip it. Service: 5/5 I had my food delivered and everyone's order was correct when it arrive and was neatly packaged read more

I was thoroughly impressed by the taste but the inside looked too hole in the wall unclean for me to return. The baked chicken with hot honey sauce on the side on a bed of rice with veggies on top, Mac and greens as sides was delicious! It was not salty and this is rare and also appreciated! Black ppl this is an approved level of salt usage for food right here! It was all cooked very well, balanced and flavors blending well together, nice cheese pull and not too oily. Nothing was salty it was perfect! Chicken was falling off the bone a bit nice and juicy baked to perfection. The hot honey sauce was pretty good that perfect sweetness. Wanted to support this well known black owned restaurant but they need a deep clean and proper upkeep. I did just hear after going that this location has rats so I fear that adds to my reason for not wanting to return. Go try this meal and I hope it's as good as the day I tried it! read more

YouTuber LaTryGuy went to this location and tried a few items and raved about it. So when I knew I was going to D.C. This was on the list of places to try. This location is on what I call a busy street and parking was sparing. But I was able to find a spot. When I walked in it gave me a diner style feel as they only had counter seating. I was greeted and I I Tried a few things the Fried Seafood Platter fried hard which included 6 Fried Shrimp, 2 Catfish, 3 Lump Crab & Shrimp Fritters with Four Cheese Mac & Cheese, and Whipped Yams. 8 wings Fried Hard all flats with a side of BBQ and Mambo Sauce. I got also got a side of Potato Salad and a Yellow Cake with Chocolate Icing. The Fried Seafood Platter wasn't fried hard and had a lot of grease at the bottom of the container. The Shrimp and Catfish were seasoned perfectly and had great flavor. The Fritter was good but wasn't my favorite. The 8 wings also weren't fried hard and I didn't receive all flats that I paid extra for. The Flavor on the wings was good. I couldn't tell the difference between the BBQ and Mambo Sauce but both were good. The Side stole the show as they were amazing. The Yellow Cake with Chocolate Icing remind me of something that my grandmother would make. Overall the experience was good and the food was good. I would come back and maybe try the grill items. Pricing was average for what I purchased. I will be back the next time I'm in D.C. read more

Hands down one of the best seafood macs I've ever had. Even though this location doesn't have seating, they made up for it with quick service and phenomenal food. The Lump Crab and Shrimp Mac & Cheese wasn't short on flavor, cheesy mac, or seafood. You could taste the freshness and seasoning in every bite. read more

A few days ago my friend from Houston can to visit and we were hated some soil food so we ordered. We had the smothered turkey wings with rice and gravy and collard greens. I was extremely disappointed. I could barely chew the turkey wing there were SO overcooked and hard! The rice and gravy were really good but that's it honestly! The greens tasted almost identical to glory greens which I hope is not the case. The portion size was great! So much food especially since it's kind of pricy to be served buffet style. Idk what the ambiance or customer service is like because I ordered delivery from an app but I don't think I'm going to try again unfortunately. I really wanted to love this place but this is like my 10th time trying their food and every time I'm disappointed. read more

Came by to check out and experience some soul food from this restaurant. Ordered 2 dinners salmon 2 sides of mac and cheese and collard greens and fried catfish with mac and cheese and yams. OMG from the 1st bite we knew we hit the right spot for dinner. The mac and cheese was nice and creamy, yams perfect sweetness and the fried catfish season and fried to perfection! The salmon was moist and flavorful. Also enjoyed a side of rice. This was a pick up take out order which was packaged properly and traveled well. We had some while in DC and the food traveled well and we enjoyed the leftovers the next day. Staff was full of smiles and very friendly when walked in to give our order and kindly answered all our questions about items on the menu. Stop in and order up at this take out location and they have a few other locations in the DMV area. FOOD IS FIRE, CHECK THEM OUT ! read more

I am thoroughly disappointed. Look at the chicken, it looks and tastes like it's weeks old not an ounce of flavor besides OLD. And, $10 for the banana pudding, which is just a glob of jello pudding with 6 cookies. The shrimp n grits was mid. This place should be ashamed of themselves. I spent $70 for this mess. read more

Ok so you're not coming here for the decor. Think of this more as a stop off of a two lane highway through rural South Carolina. We shared catfish fried with yams, mac and cheese, and grits. I might add my dinner companion may or may not have been under the influence of marijuana, and I certainly cannot attest to having less than 2 martinis so .. it's possible that influenced our decision. It's a narrow, tight place. Don't think about eating there, get it to go with some corn bread and go outside. read more

Update bc it's been a while and the quality here has gone way downhill. ordered my usual fried chicken breast - the chicken was small and pounded so thin, had 0 texture on the fry, the batter slid off the chicken and had no flavor. the mac also had no flavor, tasted like plain noodles with salt. and the collard greens were not savory but sweet, cooked with lots of sugar. even the buffalo sauce is sweet, more like a buffalo/mumbo sauce. can no longer recommend after tonight's meal read more

Traveled from Georgia to DC to check out the museums and of course we had to have some soul food while in the area. The tour guide for our trip kept going back each night because he said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Why? Because this restaurant was consistent in offering crispy delicious fried chicken wings, creamy macaroni and cheese and delicious collard greens. I agreed this was good. Some of the others had the fried whiting, grilled turkey chops, and fried catfish. Food was yummy! If you looking for souls food give them a try. Yep the store is small it's pick up only no dine-in, parking sparse but you can find a spot. Management was also very friendly. When I go back to DC I'm definitely hitting them up again. Oohh's & Aahh's - Outside waiting for food. - Soul Food Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

We came in around 8pm on a Friday night for dinner, and unfortunately, the night started off a little rocky. They were out of shrimp for the shrimp & grits and crab for the crab & spinach dip -- two items we really wanted. Disappointing, but we decided to go without them. During happy hour, they list a few select mixed drinks (Rum Punch, Tropical Margarita, White Peach Seabreeze, etc.), but the one I ordered they didn't have the mix for. I switched to another, only to find out the drinks were premade in pitchers. A little unusual, but I let that slide as well. For entrées, I ordered the "2 meats for $37" deal and went with the Beef Short Ribs (3 ribs) and the Hot Honey Old Bay Wings (10). The waitress mentioned I'd get the full portions as if I'd ordered them separately, which sounded like a good deal. My partner ordered the Catfish & Grits. The food itself was excellent. The catfish was crispy, well-seasoned, and flavorful. My short ribs were tender and fell off the bone. The wings, greens, and mac & cheese were also seasoned well and delicious. The issue came at the end when the bill was higher than expected. There were upcharges for both the ribs and the wings that weren't explained by the waitress or listed in the menu. On top of that, a 20% automatic gratuity was added -- for a party of two -- with no mention of this on the menu or posted anywhere. That was a surprise, and honestly left a bad taste after what was otherwise a solid meal. Bottom line: Food: Great Service: Okay Pricing/Transparency: Needs serious improvement It's frustrating to be hit with surprise charges, especially when the food and atmosphere are otherwise enjoyable. Please do better with communication and transparency -- it makes all the difference. (3/5) read more

In my honest opinion, Oohs & Aahhs is just okay when it comes to soul food. I've heard about this spot for years since being in DC, and a lot of the hype seems to ride heavily on the name and reputation. I've tried a good amount of the menu, including the mac and cheese, yams, collard greens, turkey wings, and chicken wings. Out of everything I've had, the chicken wings were easily the best item. They were actually pretty good and the one thing I'd recommend ordering. The rest of the food was fine, but nothing really stood out. The sides especially didn't impress me enough to justify the price. Paying around $20-$25 for an entrée with two sides feels a little steep when the sides themselves are just average. If I were to come back, I probably wouldn't order a full plate again. I'd just grab an order of wings, maybe six or ten, and keep it moving. They do that well enough to make it worth it, but beyond that, I don't really see the value. Not bad food by any means, just not as special as the reputation might suggest. read more

I found out about this place from Tik Tok and decided to give it a try for Mother's Day while out in DC. Tik Tok wasn't clear on the location so I just took a gamble and tried the Georgia Ave location. It's a nice quaint place. I made a reservation online. When we arrived, we were seated immediately. There was a brunch option, but I opted for the dinner because it came with 2 sides. I ordered Oxtails with a side of Mac N Cheese and Yams and a lemonade. We waited about 30 mins. before our order was ready. The order came in to-go containers with plastic utensils which is a neat idea. Everything I ordered was delicious. I got full rather quick so I took the rest to go. Our waiter was nice and pleasant. He seemed to be in his element. read more

Oohh's & Aahh's really lives up to the name, every bite had me doing just that! I ordered the 2-piece catfish and it was fried to perfection, crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. The mac and cheese was a standout, rich, creamy, and full of cheesy goodness with that perfect baked top. The whipped yams were sweet, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth smooth, honestly like dessert in disguise. The medium fried was just the right level of crisp without being too greasy, and the three hot sauce packets and remoulade sauce took everything up a notch. The cornbread was soft, warm, and slightly sweetperfect for sopping up every last bit of flavor. And I can't forget the house-made strawberry lemonade--fresh, not too sweet, and super refreshing. You can tell they don't cut corners here. It all tasted home-cooked with love. The portions were generous, the service was friendly, and the food was absolutely worth the hype. This is real-deal soul food, and I'll definitely be coming back! read more

This restaurant was highly suggested by others that had visited. However......! We arrived for our 1:00pm reservation to the restaurant on Georgia St. We tried to order several items on the menu and they were sold out. How do you even run out of French Fries or lemons for the ice tea! Then, at the end of the meal we ordered our desserts to go. Both were given to us straight from a very cold refrigerator. The peach cobbler was practically frozen. I had to ask that it be heated, which it was, too hot to be touched, let alone eaten. Will we return, NO? Will we recommend this restaurant WTH to others ,NO? Very disappointed! read more

The food was so good, we went back two days later! It was fresh and very seasoned that I didn't even take pictures. The first order was the fried whiting with greens and Mac n cheese. The greens were on point! The Mac n cheese was missing some flavor. The second order, I got the veggie plate and tried out the whipped yams and potato salad. I don't know what they put in the potato salad but it was AMAZING. We visited the U St. location so it was not a sit-down restaurant. Very poor customer service. There is a light-skin girl with dreads, very bad skin and a very bad attitude who will not hesitate to curse you out and claim she has brothers and cousins who will come up there to fight you for looking at the bags to see whose name is on the ticket if you touch them. Never in my life have I been disrespected so bad at a take out spot where I was spending my hard earned money. Even had her coworker coming outside like he wanted to fight and both being extremely rude. Then they have the nerve to belittle you for looking at the bags when they have you waiting outside for your order where you can't even hear what names they are calling out for the food. I will never go to this location again and both workers should be fired IMMEDIATELY. This place use to be a neighborhood staple. Quality food and great environment. This place is a sad reminder of what happens when the passion for delivering fresh soul food is lost or overshadowed by long jeopardy. I had 10 party wings and two sides $25 is ok I guess... Had the pleasure of visiting this place when I visited DC. I loved the food! The definition of soul food done right! You get an incredible portion of food at a reasonable price: my whole plate was about $32 dollars, and clearly there is enough food here for two. However, I would order for one and save the rest for leftovers since i enjoyed the food so much. I appreciated the staff. They were all very friendly and helpful in advising on what to order. The restaurant gives you the vibes of a traditional, small, family owned business. The only drawback I had was the inside ambiance wasn't necessarily the most appealing in the sense that most of the establishment looks dated or a tad rundown. Therefore, I personally wouldn't be inclined to dine in when I come back. I would rather have my "home cooked" meal at home :) read more

I love this place when they first opened, I been coming here for 20 years, the manager or owner was crass/rude. I don't care for the other locations. Doesn't taste it as great as U st used to but their newer places you can order as U st no longer has dine in service. I had to dine today on the street corner with the unhoused which was not communicated on the website that take out was the only option. It's a take out only: if. You wish for a bar setting for the other places sure but the quality of food is terrible anywhere but U! Looking for a late night meal or snack? Then this spot's for you. It's a small hole in the wall shop with not much room to stand around in so you order and wait outside until they call your number. It was a bit of a wait, especially for the fried food, but it was tasty and the service was nice! I got the fried whiting with a side of mac and cheese and collard greens. It came with 3 pieces of the fried fish that remained crispy even after 15 minutes of transporting it back to the hotel. It was slightly fishy though. The collard greens were a bit sweet which I found interesting. But my favorite was definitely the mac and cheese. It was so cheesy and gooey and just delicious.
