The staff was accommodating to our large party. They informed us how to order so we could maximize our time. When we arrived, we found out that we placed our order at the wrong location and they quickly helped us to ensure we were able to make it back to our meeting on time. My entire party enjoyed our meal. The bbq chicken sauce and skin was delicious. The meat was a little dry but I would rate the chicken 4/5. The green beans and cabbage were seasoned to perfection. The serving was large. It's small in size but functional to drop by and pick up your meal and enjoy it at home.

They still have some of the best Mac and cheese I've ever tasted. Compete with my mama's. The staff is friendly, responsive and open. They don't have seating but the takeout was efficient.

I had one of those days where I was craving soul food and missing home in the South. While searching, I came across Henry's on Apple Maps and decided to give it a try. When I walked in, I was greeted right away, and it immediately felt like a place that's been part of the community for years. There's a warmth to the space that tells you a lot of people have enjoyed meals here. After looking over the menu, I ordered the catfish dinner with two sides -- fried okra and mac & cheese. The fried okra was a pleasant surprise. It was crispy, lightly breaded, and most importantly, didn't have that heavy grease smell you sometimes get with fried foods. It was flavorful without being overwhelming. The mac & cheese was good, though a little saltier than I would have preferred. I was hoping for more of a rich, savory flavor, but it was still enjoyable. The star of the meal was definitely the catfish. The seasoning and flavor were spot on, and the fillets were well cooked. I did find the occasional bone, but that didn't take away from the fact that it was the best item on my plate. I learned Henry's is actually known for their sweet potato pie, which I didn't try this time but will definitely be ordering on my next visit. Ratings: Catfish - 5/5 Mac & Cheese - 3/5 Fried Okra - 4/5 Overall, Henry's is a spot I would return to. If you've been here before, I'd love to hear your recommendations for what I should try next time.

I haven't had soul food in DC in years because most of the places have been hit or miss with food quality. Henry's gets a 10/10!!! Crispy fried chicken like my grandma would make in Tennessee or down south at my alumni college Jackson State. The portions are large and the food is yummy!!!! Tip: Call to order your food in advance or the wait can be long. There is no seating only carryout.

Longtime DC native and always wanted to give this place a try. It's a classic hole in the wall with good food. I first walked in and there is a stinch that chose to ignore so I could give the food a shot. Glad I did. The server is a bit short with her responses but she knows her stuff when it comes to the menu and pricing. She's Henry's granddaughter and appears to be running the whole show now that Henry is gone. My wife and I both ordered the Fried Whiting with Mac & Cheese and Greens. I also ordered a side of yams. I received my order and the bag was heavy. I knew this was a good sign. I got to the car and the food was piping hot. The cornbread is A1. Greens are delicious. There is a healthy portion of whiting which I surprisingly couldn't finish. The Mac and cheese was mediocre. Overall the food was really good and I'll definitely return. I ended up calling my mother and aunt and ordered food for them since I knew it was pretty good. Classic hole in the wall with good food. If you're looking for soul food this will definitely scratch the itch.

After trying places like mid atlantic, vibes cafe & other "soul food" places, this seems to be the only one that's nailed it down. The ribs fell off the bone & the mac and cheese had me hooked. The ladies who took my order were patient as well. I will be back.

Tried Henry's Soul Cafe for the first time and everything was delicious. You know it's good food when it puts you out for the night. The staff is very friendly as well. Definitely going back and would recommend it to anyone. I'm glad I don't live near by because I would eat here everyday.

I was in the mood for a plate of some good food before I left DC . This place did not disappoint service was fast and my food was hot . I ordered the catfish meal which comes with two sides. I got yams, and potato salad. I also had to be greedy and got some sweet potato pie.Now when a place says they are known for something I order it ,and yes I'm glad I did the pie was everything I just wish it was a tad bit bigger .I thought the slice was small. Other than that I would recommend to come here. A great takeout spot .

Our reservation was for 730 on a Saturday night and the restaurant was happen but not crowded. We were seated in a beautiful banquet table upstairs and could admire all of the original molding and the skylight. Keep in mind that ordering Still water will incur a charge of $7.50. Apparently I don't eat at nice enough places to realize this lol. You absolutely must order the bacon jam, deviled eggs. I could have just eaten this for my entire meal and been happy. Our server, Maria was very attentive, friendly and made some excellent recommendations. I ordered the dirty chicken my husband got a steak and our friend ordered the shrimp and grits. The dirty chicken was two legs and two thighs. The fry was wonderful, but the gochujang sauce was way too heavy for my taste. The flavor was very good and the blue cheese added some great contrast to the spice, but the sauce was incredibly overpowering, and I would not order this again. Our friend reported that his shrimp and grits was tasty but very spicy. We also ordered a mac & cheese for the table because at $10.50 for a side we thought we would just share it. It was an excellent mac & cheese, but the old bay flavoring was not noticeable. Since I don't love Love old Bay. This suited me just fine! After dinner, they brought us a complementary dessert: taster of bourbon, pecan pies, and hummingbird cake. Everyone enjoyed having a taste.

Surprisingly, it wasn't very busy for a Friday night near Navy Yard, which, in hindsight, may have been a sign. The service got off to a rough start. Valet parking was advertised, but no valet was present when we arrived. We waited about 15 minutes before anyone showed up. Once seated, it took quite a while for our server to introduce himself, check on us, and even offer water. We opted for the $30 unlimited drinks, which sounded like a great deal. Unfortunately, the bartender struggled with an Old Fashioned multiple times. The first drink had the wrong liquor, incorrect ingredients, and even the wrong ice. After another attempt, our server explained that the bartender was new, so he ended up making and pouring the drink himself. The food was a mixed bag. The jerk steak bites were disappointing, several of the six pieces were mostly fat, making the appetizer feel like a waste. The Brussels sprouts, which are cooked with okra, were anything but crispy. Instead, they were extremely slimy. The lobster pasta had good flavor, but it was swimming in so much oil you could have fried a batch of chicken. On the positive side, the chicken and waffles were delicious and easily the best dish we ordered. The sea bass, however, was just mediocre. To end the evening, we experienced another long wait. It took about 15 minutes for the valet to return, and then another 10 minutes to bring the car. Overall, Hen Quarter has a beautiful location and a lot of potential, but the inconsistent service and hit-or-miss food made for a disappointing experience. I really wanted to love it, but based on this visit, I wasn't impressed. I hope they can work through these issues because the restaurant truly has the potential to be something special.

I must say Tupelo Honey Is such a beautifully crafted place that pulls you out of the everyday hustle and bustle and places you within the southern comfort and warmth that oozes through the ambiance with smiles when they great you. It's natural unforced southern hospitality from A-Z. Also of note If you're able to please ask for the (Chef's Table) and thank me later! Now to the food I started off with the famous fried green tomatoes as an appetizer then I ordered a fresh squeezed pineapple juice that was just delicious after that the amazing shrimp and grits that's so delightful and the creole sauce is blended to perfection. Here's a little food hack for ya, add pieces of your fried green tomatoes into your shrimp and grits I promise you won't regret it!! for dessert you absolutely have to try the strawberry butter pecan cheesecake!! I love a good chicken and waffles so I was eager to try them out. I got to try the regular classic, peach ,and sample the Mac and cheese waffle. They were decent and I enjoyed what I had but it didn't move me to chorus. The fried green tomatoes were delicious. The biscuits for a cause were incredible. Hands down my favorite. Warm, fluffy, and paired perfectly with the jam and butter. The roasted half bird dish was a item on the special menu. They had a special on mimosas and had a few different dishes that weren't on the regular menu. The chicken was juicy and seasoned well. The green beans were nice and savory. Though the Mac and cheese left a bit to be desired. They complemented the dish but the green beans were definitely the standout. All in all, I'm not disappointed that I went but I can't say that I would return on my own accord. It's a very popular restaurant but I found the food to be a bit mid unfortunately.

We were seated at our reservation time and had great service all evening-our server answered our questions, asked about dietary restrictions, explained each dish, and even provided complementary champagne and a delicious layered dessert to celebrate our anniversary. The manager on duty also came by at the beginning and end of our meal to ask about our experience and to answer questions. The food came out in a well-timed manner, with courses spaced out appropriately. A huge shout-out to all the Marcus DC staff for above and beyond customer service! Marcus DC's ambiance is nice-understated and elegant. Due to recent weather in DC, the restaurant was warmer and stuffier than normal; however, Marcus DC sent me an e-mail earlier in the day explaining the situation and how they were remedying the air quality, which I appreciated. My wife and I ordered a la carte (I would recommend), and shared the following dishes: Blue Cornbread: The star dish of the evening and one of the five best dishes I have had at any restaurant this year. I loved the unique blue corn flour, providing an excellent color. The cornbread was not sweet, which was great, and had an unexpected and delightful small kick. The Yassa butter with honey was perfectly creamy and spreadable, and provided an excellent complement to the warm, soft cornbread (topped with the right amount of salt). Two pieces come with each order and I would advise ordering enough to make sure everyone in your party gets at least one piece-it's that good. Snapper Crudo: While I wish we had gotten a little more fish, the citrus and sauce provided excellent acidity, the avocado great creaminess, and the sunflower seeds great crunch. A great dish. Seared Faroe Island Salmon: The salmon was perfectly cooked medium-rare with great crispy skin. The sauce was the perfect accompaniment to the salmon, providing lots of good flavor. Charred Heirloom Tomato: A nicely grilled tomato with good umami from the mushrooms and smokiness from the onions. Crispy Potato: The potatoes were perfectly baked, with a nice crispy skin. I wish there had been more creme fraiche, roe, and dill but Confit Heirloom Carrots: The only disappointing dish of the night. The carrots were significantly undercooked and the salsa verde was way too salty. In addition to our complementary dessert, we split the corn cremeux and the praline cake. The corn got lost in the berries, custard, and ice cream, and the praline cake was a bit cloying, although the apricot ginger sorbet was fantastic. I would highly recommend Marcus DC for your next special occasion!
