They're sitting at the bar and the tables. I noticed the bar seats have those little purse hooks under the table, which are nice for those so inclined. Jamaican music playing at nice volume that permitted conversation while keeping a bouncy vibe. Service was quick and friendly. I ask for recommendation between two drinks and he recommended the purple dolphin. GREAT choice, I mix a bourbon elderflower and Plum infused syrup. Headed nice flavor profile of sweet with still the bourbon kick. Jerk chicken rasta pasta was OUTSTANDING with plenty of creamy, peppery KICK. Glad they served us close to closing time BUT better service practices need to be displayed. Greeting hostess was friendly. Bartender said he was the manager as well but did not act as so. Left the bar for several minutes while fetching "free" food for friend. Meanwhile my guest and I were still waiting on to-go boxes we requested. I did order a second drink but never got it. Ordered to go food as well was told "rice & peas" would take 25min to make I agreed to take to go along with cabbage and coco bread. Oh I also witnessed an off duty worker come in to assemble his marijuana at an open view table. Worker from the back noticed and told "manager/bartender" he was busy with other customers. I was visiting in the area and needed to get away from the downtown options. We ended up here and I was so happy we did. I ordered the jerk chicken bowl with greens, rice and plantains. If you're craving authentic Caribbean flavor and good vibes in DC, Bammy's is the spot. I guess if I went back for brunch two weekends in a row, my attendance can speak for itself. Both times I've visited Bammy's, I've been, first and foremost, so impressed with the staff. They genuinely go above and beyond to make sure you're comfortable, even starting with table placement. During my first visit, my group wanted to sit across the walkway near the bridge, and the team didn't hesitate. They came out and set everything up for us, including a speaker so we could still vibe to the music. On my second visit, we tried to sit outside again, but the sun got the best of us (even after the staff worked hard to adjust the umbrellas). Once again, they graciously moved us inside without any issue. Major shoutout to Captain Dre--he was thoughtful, attentive, and brought the energy both times. As I sit here writing this, I'm tempted to place a pickup order just for those. They're that good. People in my group also tried the seafood omelet and wouldn't stop raving about it. The dancehall and soca music was very inviting, so I thought that was good. However, I didn't feel invited when I was sat down because my waiter didn't give me a menu. If you know Caribbean food, proceed with caution - the food here is a bit diluted to suite the taste of the gen pop. I can appreciate the twist of my fav dishes but this is a disclaimer to those that think they're getting the real deal. For starters - the doubles. Edible but cringey if you've had real doubles. Chickpeas have a bite to them and aren't thoroughly curried. Small amount of peppa and chutney. The roti is soggy from the liquid so you're better off using a fork here. The shrimp (or crawfish) was huge! Only 3 but we shared and only ate two. So much flavor here and the coconut was profound - I really enjoyed this dish. The oxtail was a bit of a rip off. One piece of oxtail for $18 that tasted like BBQ atop. The festival and Escovich was a bit random to pair with the oxtail but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Then again, I was hungry. I had red strip my date had rum punch. He seemed okay with it but I think I would've wanted some more Wray (If that was even at the bar). Service - now listen, historically you can't expect white glove service at a Jamaican restaurant. Just being honest. Is it nice to have? Yes. But I don't need a chippy waiter at these type of places I'm here for the food. Curry chicken was good. The chicken was falling off the bone and so juicy. What really made it was when my friend asked for some pepper sauce. Added that to the chicken and made it really good! I think it could've used more curry flavor though. The stewed beef was tender, but my friend said the rice and peas were just ok. I had the sorrel ginger to drink. Unprofessional & Unapologetic - A Complete Disappointment I had one of the most frustrating dining experiences at Bammy's and will never return. From the moment we walked in, things felt off. The staff squeezed us through a maze of tables and sat us all the way in the back, which was uncomfortable and unwelcoming. We started with appetizers--jerk wings and a salad--which were fine. However, when we tried to order the oxtail rasta pasta, we were told they were out of oxtails. Disappointed but understanding, I switched my order to the curry goat instead. After waiting 20 minutes, my friend's food arrived while I continued to wait... and wait. Ten minutes later, I was finally informed that--out of nowhere--they were now out of curry goat, too. Frustrated, I asked to speak to a manager, only to be told there was no manager available and that "there was nothing they could do." I then asked if I could get a simple side of macaroni to go with my wings instead, and they refused. The best they could offer was a smaller portion of curry goat at the price of curry chicken, which was only a few dollars cheaper--not exactly a fair solution. Then, another server finally admitted the truth: my original curry goat order had been given to the wrong table. No apology. No offer to make things right. No complimentary drink, side, or anything for the massive inconvenience. Just hostility, unprofessionalism, and a total disregard for customer service. If you're in the DMV and looking for quality Caribbean cuisine with good service, do not go to Bammy's. Do yourself a favor and visit Jerk at Nite instead. All of the sides listed on the menu for the jerk brisket were not available. The peas and rice was replaced with white rice. The cabbage was replaced with collard greens. Unfortunately, my visit to this establishment began with a bad taste in my mouth. Upon entering, there was a couple who were 30 mins late for their reservations. Due to their tardiness, their table was given to someone else. In the seconds that my friend texted the rest of us to see where we would like to be seated, the couple was seated at our table. We started off with the rum punch mimosas ($14) which were very delicious. For appetizers we had jerk wings ($15) and conch fritters ($12). You HAVE to get the wings. They were seasoned to perfection. I thought the fritters were just okay, but my friends really loved them. After we finished our first drinks, we got a big bottle of rum punch ($55) which filled all four of our glasses almost twice. For entrees, a friend and I got the curried goat ($18), another friend got the jerk chicken ($20) and another ordered the Escovitch ($50). All of the entrees had heaping portions and were amazing. This is the most tasteful, seasoned, and perfectly cooked Jamaican food that I have ever had. The rice and peas were so flavorful and the goat was incredibly tender. I tasted some of my friend's fish and it was heavenly and perfectly cooked. We all have plenty to take home. For sides we ordered plantains and macaroni pie (both $8). Whewwww. Those plantains were amazing. Slightly crispy on the edges and the perfect amount of ripeness to where there still was a little bite. Omg just amazing. The macaroni pie really amazed me. It had such a nice smoky flavor. I almost wanted purchase another order of it to take home. Lastly, for dessert we had none other than rum cake ($11) It was a small bundt cake with a white icing on top. It was decadent yet very light and not too sweet. The rum balanced out the sweetness nicely. Besides the hiccup in the beginning, the service was pretty good. Our waiter, Firas (this is a different person than the one in the beginning) was very attentive and had a lovely personality. I will definitely return to Bammy's in the near future.
