This is a very unique place that we stumbled upon while visiting the area. We enjoyed the nachos, the chips were tasty and the sour cream was delicious! Service was limited because it wasn't many people dining in but the one server we had made sure we had everything we needed. The wings were pretty good, I'm not usually a huge fan of bread chicken but these were quite tasty. I do believe the chicken could have been fried a little crisper but they probably didn't want to dry them out! The fries were also really good, I didn't order any but my friend allowed me to try a few and I regretted not getting any! To be completely honest, this was such a disappointing experience. I've heard great things about this restaurant so I had high hopes, but those hopes were not met. Our server, Sama, was the best part of our experience. He was attentive and made many suggestions. However, the food did not live up to any expectations. To start out, we ordered guacamole. Simple, plain guacamole. The guacamole came out covered in bacon. We're pescatarian. The server put it in properly, but the kitchen messed it up. After another 15ish minutes, someone (I'm assuming a manager) brought out the corrected item. It genuinely tasted like premade, store bought guacamole. Next, the pound of Buffalo shrimp that we ordered came out. It was extremely soggy. No crispiness at all. We also ordered an order of fries. When the shrimp was brought out., the gentleman who brought it out asked us if we wanted bacon on the fries (he didn't have any fries with him). Now this is the same gentleman (not our server) who brought out the guacamole with bacon that had to be sent back. After waiting almost another 7-8 minutes, fries finally came out. Now again I say, our server was amazing. He offered to have the shrimp remade because as soon as he saw the shrimp, he said, "That's not what I promised you." We declined as we'd been in the restaurant almost another hour and really just wanted the check. Although our server attempted to make a small bit of the many issues that came with this experience better, with the extensive amount of challenges not one time did management come back to the table to attempt to make anything right. Okay we went here after going to the miracle theater across the street. Now the service was slow, I ate like 2 1/2 helpings of free Salsa & Chips before we actually got our food. But let me tell you the food was Sooooooo Gooooood once we got it. Because I ate so much before my main course that after I finished the main course which was three Jerk Chicken Tacos.... I had the meat sweats + we had drinks too of course. Overall the food was delicious as well as the Salsa that came with the Chips. It has an upstairs dining room as well, and part of it is outside which was pretty cool. But like I said; The food & drinks was bomb, So you'll definitely be doing your stomach some justice. A fun spot with a rooftop! Unfortunately, we weren't able to enjoy the rooftop because it became very crowded by a large party. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the lower level. Happy Hour drinks prices were under $10, a steal! They offered HH bites but were limited on what was available. However, the menu was also under $10. Our waiter worked really hard as did the busboy, but sadly some of the food came out extremely late and some of the drinks were forgotten. And while this part of the service can be improved, I would say that their drinks and food were enjoyable. This place is good but not great. Overall the food the decent and it's a good mellow place to watch the games. The upstairs was very warm on a summer night and didn't have good ventilation at all. Our server was a bit of a space cadet, forgetting orders and needed constant remaining on things that were pretty basic like bringing silverware for our food, napkins and what not. It may have been his first day but he was definitely struggling from the start when we asked for a tv change. I had the Birria tacos and the plantains both of which were pretty good. read more

I was culture shocked with the smoked bbq birria meat which usually you have the dipping sauce that's called consume but they didn't have it with this taco. Came here with a friend for Happy Hour (4pm to 7pm btw) and really enjoyed it! They have frozen Margaritas for $5 all day until Oct 31st. We have been sipping on those since we've been here. The service here is great. Wait staff is very attentive & kind (our server is Dan/ Daniel). The ambiance is pretty typical of a Mexican restaurant. But I do love the nod to Mexican professional wrestling (lucha libre). As a wrestling fan, I greatly appreciate it. We only ordered the Ceviche. My friend wasn't a fan but I did enjoy it a bit more. I think if it was less sweet (without tangerine in it), it would be awesome. It's walking distance from Eastern Market metro station so it would be ideal to go that route. Families stay away! This place is basically a frat house for middle aged people, with frat house-esque health standards, and treats children terribly! My family and I went there for dinner and while we were eating, a woman in her 60s threw up in the fountain 5 feet from our table. While this was bad enough to ruin our meal, another woman from a different table came up to my child a few minutes later, got in her face, and yelled at her for "making a face" (at someone puking next to her). When my child, who was in tears, stood up and asked to leave, someone yelled at her, "don't disrespect my aunt" (who was still actively throwing up all over herself within feet of our food.) And someone else in their party told us to "go get your tacos somewhere else" as if we were at fault for wanting to eat dinner that wasn't surrounded with puke or with adults verbally abusing children. The restaurant staff was milling around the entire time, and no one ever came over to apologize to us, or move us away from the puke within feet of our food, which I'm guessing is a health code violation. I had to hunt down someone from the restaurant staff and when we informed the server that someone was puking next to us, they got the check but never apologized and did nothing to make the restaurant sanitary or comfortable for other patrons. I eventually found the owner whose first response when I told him multiple drunk adults yelled at my child, was, "yeah, they shouldn't be served anymore." No acknowledgement that the patrons had already been overserved (they each had multiple massive empty drinks on their table) and no apology or promise to prevent this sort of behavior in the future. Needless to say I will be staying away from the Flying Mexican from now on and informing anyone else with children to do the same. Despite being in a neighborhood full of families and surrounded by restaurants that go out of their way to accommodate families, this place is catering to a different crowd - older adults who are drunk in the middle of the day and find it acceptable to yell at stranger children. Edgar was fantastic!! We had such a great meal and the service was excellent. We brought our two kids and they loved the Mac n cheese and chicken tenders. Drinks are served well, strong and the food gets in quick. If he likes you, you are good. On game days, it gets packed and there is an eclectic mix of people coming in. We had the Old Bay wings and Corn Ribs for appetizers (Both are VERY GOOD). For the main meal, we had beef quesadilla, Jerk chicken tacos and smoked beef birria tacos. Let me tell you .....GET THE SMOKED tacos!!!! The jerk chicken taco was very flavorful, but it was only chicken, sauce, and avocados. I was expecting a little more inside (onions, cabbage, etc.). The quesadilla came out covered in pico, cream, and cilantro. Looked more like a salad to me, lol. This restaurant is a very nice spot and the overall atmosphere is not bad at all. We visited The Flying Mexican on Tuesday evening for a taco Tuesday outing. We arrived at 5pm to a fairly empty restaurant. We were seated immediately at a small half booth in the front. There were only two servers and it took a long time to put in our drink order. We said we wanted tacos but she never came back, I had to flag her down. While we waited I noticed the small plates on our table had hair on them so we asked for new plates and when those came they had food stuck to them ... definitely not a good impression. My partner then ordered a double on the rocks the double came with no rocks and no lines and we never got to order. By 6:48 we made the decision to take our food to go and close out. We went with the shrimp fajita and jerk chicken tacos to go, both weee excellent buuuuuut probably would have been better in the restaurant! I would return for the tacos but be sure to order everything at once. They had a pretty extensive happy hour and the place gets packed! read more

He had to charge me guacamole or queso and I had been there multiple times and always got one free tips and prior to ordering my entrée. In addition, I ordered off the hour menu and then he charged me three times the amount and thought that I wouldn't notice. I just felt like he was being extremely shady throughout the time at me and I'd make eye contact that my son needed a refill and he'd look be on his phone. If they replace the waiting staff, I will return as the food quality in atmosphere is good but this particular waiter did a very poor job then was upset that I still even though he did a poor job left him only 20% the manager should take this information and do something serious before there's repercussions for a business quality and outcomes. read more

Service at the bar was atrocious - one bartender was making drinks for the whole bar, the whole dining room, and taking orders from people at the bar. From the beginning, the service experience was thoroughly horrible. It started when we walked into the restaurant. My wife and I stood at the host desk less than 5 feet away as the host played on his phone for a solid 5 minutes before he even looked up. Several employees came and went to the front desk but the host just stood there on his phone while no one helped us. Finally, he looked up and saw us and had the nerve to act surprised like he didn't see us there. At last we were seated. It was another at least 5 to 7 minutes after that before the server came by to even greet us, let alone get app and drink order. We did get water and chips served by the food runner or busser though. While looking at my menu, I found food squished on the inside. So I used my napkin to wipe it and asked a server walking by if they could grab me another napkin. He apologized and said he would. He passed by several times but never brought the napkin. I later asked our server as well, but he never brought one. I ended up having to take another roll up from a different table. When our server finally did come to take our order, we ordered the whole order since we had plenty of time to look at the menu. We got a total of 3 apps and two drinks, as well as two entrees. We clearly explained to the server we wanted the apps out first as appetizers. Several long minutes later, the drinks came out. Several longer minutes after that, the entrees came out with one of the apps (esquites). Can I say, those esquites were extremely salty. We couldn't even eat them. Thoroughly horrible. When asked where the other two apps were, we were told they would come soon. They finally came after we were completely done eating and ready to go. Like we both ordered another round of drinks but still no apps. Every time the server came to the table, we knew we wouldn't see him for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Without exaggerating, we spent far more of our disjoint experience waiting for service to happen than we did enjoying the visit and eating. The server at this point knew we were frustrated and offered to get the manager, to which we replied yes. The manager, whose name we later learned was Mike NEVER came! We waited for about 20 to 30 minutes. The server felt so bad he comped a solid half our bill and gave us complimentary tequila shots. While the atmosphere was pretty cool with the lamp covers being masks an overall nice ambiance, the service was HORRIBLE! The server seemed to just have too many tables, which left little time to take care of any of them well. And the manager was clearly too busy to think about customer service. I had the Portobello Mushroom Fajita, Hibiscus Margarita, & a La Pina Loca Margarita (I think I spelled that right..feeling the drinks) & everything was absolutely delicious. Have a feeling there's no going wrong with anything they offer. The customer service was outstanding as well. I had such high hopes for this place, but it looks like the curse of this location is catching up. Service today was horrible for some reason. The salsa that came with the chips was piping hot? Ordered the queso as an appetizer, but it came out 15 minutes after my wife's entree (who to be fair asked for it immediately) and was not good at all (chalky is the best word I can use). My entree came out about 10 minutes after everyone else's entree came out and they were about finished eating. I ordered the fried fish tacos, which were decent, but no where close to being worth $11 each ($22 for two). Server never bothered to check if I wanted a refill on my soda that sat empty for the duration of my meal. It's because of things like this that I absolutely hate places that automatically charge 20% tip. Where's the incentive to provide good service? Why should they get rewarded for horrible service?
