It has been nearly nine years from my initial review, and it is possible I have visited about 50 times since, so an update is in order. This is still one of the go-tos in Navy Yard despite about 1,000 places opening around them. They are the true Navy Yard OGs. Post-pandemic, they have greatly enhanced the dining experience with a very large patio that includes standing areas, a nice seated streatery, and even heaters for colder nights. They have also greatly improved service in recent years, at least in my experience. 8-10 years ago, staff was consistently rude, which really downgraded the experience, but I have had nothing but positive experiences recently. What hasn't changed - the beer. Their line of stouts, including the mexican radio and its offshoots like the AM radio, remain some of the best beers being brewed in the city. I love that it is becoming easier to find them in stores, but nothing beats getting it on draft. I also love the reserve beers, which are truly exceptional, and the fact that you can order small pours for easier sampling Also, the food is top notch. The pretzel is a solid started, but the big train burger is my fave. Great flavors, cooked to perfection, a real standout burger that honors its namesake. read more

I feel like I robbed the place getting a $10 Stein during happy hour! Came by before a Saturday baseball game. It was easy to make a reservation (and change the reservation); we arrived and were seated early! I think I'd call this an upscale brewery. The indoor space is big and open but not so loud you can't hear the person across from you. They provided spare plates, paper and cloth napkins, and real glasses with ice and a bottle to refill at your leisure. ~$15 a liter + $17+ for a main is a bit steep for casual dining. We had the pretzel with beer cheese and the tots to start. The tater tots are more like mashed potatoes that have been cubed and deep fried -- and they are delicious. The pretzel wasn't my favorite (it was a bit dry and didn't seem as fresh) but the beer cheese was unique and flavorful. I also love that they give you plenty of sauces. A place that doesn't skimp on the sauces deserves extra stars!! I also had the crispy catfish sandwich with greens. The sandwich was maybe a bit too saucey (is that acceptable to say?!). Great indoor & outdoor spaces with a strong beer list and consistently the best chicken sandwich in the neighbourhood. The good: the indoor space is large but manages to be pretty cozy on the cooler months while the large patio has outdoor pet friendly space for the hotter months. The locations is a few blocks off the main path between the stadiums so it also gets less hectic than the places closer to half st. My first time at BlueJacket and I will be back. Firstly, our server Ash was amazing. Incredibly attentive and explained all the gluten free things on the menu. Friends: THEY HAVE A DEDICATED FRYER!!!! Tell your celiac friends! So naturally I tried the tots. They were magical. I got the bbq sauce and the herby mayo. I didn't like the sauces. But the tots were strong enough on their own. I got the beet salad and wasn't really feeling the beets. I love beets but didn't love them in this dish. You scan a QR code to view the menu, order, and pay. You indicate your table and a team member brings your food and drinks. What I like about this ordering process is if you're in a group, everyone can place their own order without worrying about splitting checks. To each their own ordering, tracking, payment, and tipping. They have a decent lineup of food items on their menu such as starters, handhelds, and homestyle meals. The ambiance is very casual, with rustic seating and decor. The interior has a classic midwest brewery vibe, with wooden high-top tables, booths, and metal stools. My experience at Bluejacket Restaurant in Washington, D.C. was nothing short of amazing. We arrived around 9:19 p.m. after spending some time looking for parking. I was there with my wife, our kids, and a good friend. Even though the kitchen was scheduled to close at 9:30 p.m., we were welcomed warmly and made to feel comfortable right away--no rushing, no attitude, just genuine hospitality. We quickly reviewed the menu and placed our order, including two bread pudding desserts. There was a small mix-up where the bread pudding came out before our meal, but the manager handled it flawlessly. He apologized, took it back without hesitation, and even comped the desserts, which was a classy and appreciated gesture. Now, the food absolutely incredible. I ordered the eggplant parmesan, served in a cast iron pot with sauce on the side--rich, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. My wife had the catfish, which she loved. My kids and my friend ordered the chicken and waffles, and they couldn't stop talking about how good it was. Everyone at the table agreed this was one of the best meals we've had in a very long time. What really stood out was the service. Too often, when you arrive close to closing time, you're met with poor attitudes or rushed food. That was not the case here at all. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and genuinely happy to serve us. By the end of the night, everyone kept asking me, "How did you find this place?"and they were all thankful that I did. Came here after a work function (I am an out-of-towner visitor). The kitchen was closing in 30 minutes and I just had to try the Tots. You get a bountiful of options for dips, I went with the beer cheese. The tots are large, square shaped, and were perfectly done. Crispy outside, moist and flaky inside. You could use a fork or fingers, which I find a huge bonus in any appetizer. I was also served a pretty average old fashioned, however this place is probably more known for its beers. Usually I am all over that, but at 10:00pm I was looking for more of a night cap. It wasn't super crowded and the bar/waitstaff was attentive. I saw the bartender provide some shots to a team of two ladies celebrating a birthday - nice touch! If I lived in the area I would definitely come back to check out the full menu and compliment of beer offerings. We held our wedding reception at Bluejacket in Navy Yard this past weekend. The planning process with Daisha was incredibly smooth and she was an incredible partner in the months and weeks leading up to it. The entire staff went above and beyond for us and all of our guests who traveled far and wide for the wedding said the food was amazing (especially the tater tots and crab cakes!), the drinks and beer were top notch and the ambiance was awesome.
