Stumbled upon this cute winery right at navy yard and had to check it out. We showed up without a reservation and was able to get a few seats at the bar. The place was very busy! There was a wedding AND a bridal shower occuring at the same time. There is upstairs to the restaurant and the wedding was happening up there. There is also an outdoor porch area where the bridal shower was occuring. Most of the seating inside was high top seating. All the wines are made in house and there was a large selection! Our server (who may also be the manager/owner?) was very kind and explained some of the wines for us. We got 2 of their flights and they were all excellent. The Library Collection has some unique drinks. They do sell most of their bottles to go (pic of pricing in this review!). They also make food and they all smelled great. I'd rate this a 3.5 if I could. It was definitely better than a 3 but not quite a 4. Great vibe. The staff were all great. The views were lovely. We got a Chef's Whim board which was fun and filling. We also got the Winemakers and Library flights. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wines. I'm not giving them 4 stars for a few reasons. I wish I could build my own flight because each flight choice had wines I didn't like. I also wish there were more menu items. And, the bench seating cushions were worn through almost to the stuffing which was really surprising that they would let them get that bad at a restaurant like this. That said, we had a great meal with a great server. I don't think we'll be back though. read more

We've always enjoyed District especially for the brunch. However when we visited this past weekend we showed up at 1130a on Saturday only to find out they didn't open until 12 and no longer served brunch. We were definitely disappointed to hear this, even more so that they stopped serving "meals" and moved towards small plates for sharing. This visit was focused on getting a couple bottles to take with us and to enjoy a few glasses at the bar so we did not order any of the food. We've always loved specific wines from here which will continue to bring us back, but wish we could bring friends and family here to enjoy a full meal again. read more

What a disappointment. Imagine my shock showing up here for dinner only to find that the menu has been completely scrapped!!! The current menu is a fraction of what the restaurant used to offer. Allegedly the same chef as this past year but damn everything was so disappointing and lackluster. We did a tasting/tour prior to the meal, so we enjoyed a 10% off, but not worth it. Enjoyed pupus and beverages upstairs in their private hall, which spilled over onto their lanai with an amazing view! The pupus were healthy and delicious, with flavorful crackers, hummus, nut bars, charcuterie board, and server shared mini crab cake bites, skewers, mini PB n J bites, and stuffed dates. The bar servers were quick and always served with a smile, as I refilled the same soft drink several times. The bartender remembered my drink order, heh heh! The private room is spacious with lots of windows, the restrooms are well appointed - with the normal helpful female offerings, and then some! There are a bit of stairs to climb, but if you need it, there is an elevator to ride. One day I'll return for a regular meal, for sure! There is an Astroturfed mini park right outside, with lounge chairs and picnic tables, which many children and families enjoyed. The district winery is such a beautiful wedding venue. It's a working winery and restaurant but was closed due to the wedding and they transform the upper level into a beautiful event space. The staff was friendly from opening doors to the check coat person to the servers. It was wonderful getting to try different wines special to them. The surrounding area is beautiful for pictures. The upstairs has a beautiful view of the city and makes for great pictures especially as the sun was setting. They have a heated outdoor patio type place where you could hang out and feel like you were outside but without the bitter cold. I came here with a group of fellow Social Workers to celebrate Social Work Month. I've always walked past this place in the Navy Yard and assumed it might be expensive, but to my surprise, their brunch and wine tasting prices are pretty reasonable. We did both. The tasting area is separate from the dining room. You can't do tastings in the brunch area, but you can order food in the tasting area. One thing I liked about brunch is that they allow you to taste up to two wines you may be interested in pairing with your meal. I chose to wait until the wine tasting portion, though. I ordered the DIY mimosa, they bring you a bottle of champagne and a small pitcher of juice so you can make your own mimosas. I really liked that and think all restaurants should do the same, especially when ordering bottomless mimosas. For food, I ordered the apple butter milk pancakes. Instead of butter, they were topped with vanilla bean gelato, so delicious I didn't even need syrup! I also ordered a side of bacon. Our server, she was great! She allowed us to split the check rather than making the whole group pay on one tab, which worked much better for us. The wine tasting portion was also pretty much DIY. I really liked that they provided note cards describing the flavor profile of each wine, and space to rank them and note whether the taste matched your expectations. I highly recommend this place and would definitely come back to try more food and wines. read more

I really wanted to give this place a 5, but I don't like businesses that charge service fees on top of gratuity. Keep in mind they charge mandatory 20% on groups 6 or larger (pretty normal). This location has in small print on the menu they charge a 5% service charge for the benefit of their employees (fair wage and well-being). I thought their staff were great and the service was awesome, very attentive. However, i believe the business owners should be providing a fair wage regardless of the service charge as their menu prices are very much competitive for the area. $48 for a charcuterie, $21 for a burger, and $14-18 for a single glass of wine. We absolutely loved the food. The charcuterie had a delicious orange compote, Parmesan and Brie cheese and 3 different types of meats (shared between 5). I had the brunch burger which was delicious and i loved the side potatoes, very crispy and packed with flavor. For wine I had a house made blanc de blanc which was fabulous. Overall, I would totally come back. Services charges always just make me question the integrity of the business. Raise prices if needed but if your prices are competitive just pay your employees fairly, versus charging your customers after they're already paying a higher end for your services/food. read more

We stopped in for a tasting and dinner one afternoon and it was okay. The establishment has a nice ambiance but service was a bit on the slow side. The wines were a bit underwhelming. There wasn't anything we tasted that was worth purchasing a bottle of. The menu offered small plates but a lot of the items had a focus on green peas for some reason. I rarely leave reviews like this, but improvements come with honesty. Firstly, I will mention all the things great about this place. The decor and music added to the lively ambiance of the restaurant. It has a modern, chic vibe with high top and low top seating overlooking the waterfront view of the Anacostia River. The music selection for the day was excellent; a mix of R&B, pop, and old song bangers. The mocktails were the best items ordered from the menu. Exceptional flavors and nice presentation. The table agreed the drinks and chocolate chip cookies were the best things consumed that night. Now moving on to the service. As our party was on the larger side, we were able to be serviced by both the manager and a waiter which was a plus. The manager noticed we had been waiting for a while for get water and to be serviced, so she stepped in and addressed our questions. However, this is where things took a turn for the worst. Everyone was interested in partaking in the Indulge Experience and we made sure to alert the waiter to the food allergies and intolerances in the party. We were assured that the chef could accommodate, so we went forward with ordering. The first dish had items that were not previously noted that someone at the table could not eat. The waiter noticed that the food item was touching the others, and promised to bring the individual their own plate, but it took 15 minutes to bring the non-allergenic plate. The order dishes came out sporadically with little to know explanation of what was being served, which an explanation was expected since the Indulge Experience serves items " based on the mood of the chef " as it was explained to us. Majority of the items had spring peas which the table was tired of as it was served in the charcuterie board, dumplings, and " hush puppies ". We informed the waiter that we did not want any more peas and was responded with " these are not peas, these are fava beans ". As you can see from the photos, peas were everywhere. More variety should be offered in the experience. The meat served seemed unseasoned, especially the beef served with potatoes and brocoli. The chicken had a mambo sauce inspired feel, but was extremely tangy. The avocado toast was unremarkable, and was left uneaten as the presentation was horrible. The straw that broke the camel's back was being overcharged by 2 menu items. The party noticed the mistake after cards were charged and when we brought it to the attention of the staff, we were met with hostile attitudes. I am giving it a 2 star review simply because our palates were satisfied with the drinks and cookies. I would go back if real changes are implemented. Recommendations: have the staff become knowledgable about the dishes they are serving, be more accommodating to allergies, make sure service is provided promptly, and work on the attitudes of the servers. read more

Where do I begin? I booked the Chef's Call Feast experience with District Winery to celebrate a milestone birthday, and looking back, I truly wish I had chosen somewhere else. What was meant to be a special evening turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. To be fair, the planning process started off well. The events team I worked with in advance was excellent responsive, helpful, and communicative. At their request, I shared dietary restrictions and preferences for myself and my party ahead of time. Unfortunately, those details seemed to be applied to the applied to the whole table rather than accommodating individuals. The chef (or kitchen team) restricted the entire menu based on that input, which wasn't what I asked for. There were also limitations communicated early on, including the fact that I could not bring in an outside dessert if it required refrigeration. I respected that policy and assumed dessert would be handled thoughtfully by the restaurant. Unfortunately, it wasn't. When we arrived, there was no real welcome or hospitality from the hostess team just a cold, disinterested greeting. The bartender we encountered was rude and unprofessional, which immediately set a negative tone for the evening. Once the party was seated, we were given no explanation about what to expect from the Chef's Call experience no menus, no mention of how many courses, no pacing or context for what was being served. For a curated dining event, the complete lack of communication was surprising and frustrating. The first course or what seemed like it consisted of pita crisps, grapes, orange slices, salmon dip, and hummus. Not only were these items left sitting for over 30 minutes, but we were never served any actual charcuterie or cheeses. For a dinner billed as a feast, the absence of even a basic cheese board was baffling. The second course was a serving of wilted, warm salad, burnt, flavorless artichoke hearts, followed by salads that were wilted and clearly prepared too far in advance. Next came a round of breads. The focaccia was the only real highlight of the meal it was fresh and well like but then came a strange "pea bread," which was essentially a purée of green peas spread on toast. It looked like avocado toast but was far from it. I don't eat peas, so I didn't try it, and I still can't understand how that made it onto a celebratory menu. After another long wait, we received a few scattered plates of cold asparagus and deviled eggs--unexplained, unseasoned, and inconsistent in quantity for the group. Finally, well after 10 PM, the main courses came out: steak with burnt broccoli and fingerling potatoes, and a chicken dish with parsnips. Both dishes were lukewarm and completely lacking seasoning. The chicken skin had become leathery, which made it clear it had been sitting too long before being served. As we were still eating, we were informed that it was last call because the restaurant was closing. It was frustrating to be rushed out when the kitchen itself had poorly paced the evening from the start. The final disappointment of the night was dessert: a tray of oatmeal raisin cookies. I had made my preferences clear in advance, and under no circumstance is that an appropriate birthday dessert. It felt like an afterthought, and not at all in line with what was promised or expected for a milestone celebration. I reached out the next day to share my feedback with the events team (after the fact) and I appreciated the willingness to listen, unfortunately, it doesn't undo the experience itself. District Winery was a major disappointment for what should have been a joyful and memorable occasion. While the pre-event planning team was strong, the service, food, and overall execution on the night were severely lacking. read more

Food: the Chef's Whim was fantastic. After work, I am definitely suggesting to the ladies we go here and getting the Chef's Whim. It's the perfect amount of charcuterie for four girls and has all the cheeses, fruits, and meats your could want. Absolutely fantastic. The crispy large crackers are also such a great addition. I wish there were more of those too, and I don't even like crackers. The Caesar salads were good, Caesar salad with trout was good, and my friend also liked her braised chicken. Ambiance: Very cute, I wish we took pictures there. Inside bar area, tasting area, inside dining, and patio very cute. Wine: Showstopper of the night. You get two tastings per person at the dining area. They gave me one more because I was curious about the Fiona since I've never had it before. All wines were 4.4+ out of 5. Absolutely excellent variety and quality. I got a glass of the Albariño my favorite white. And also tried the two sparkling which were great. If I lived closer I would join the Wine Club. I'm not a fan of repeating restaurants and places since there are so many places to go in the DMV but I will definitely come back to District Winery a bunch of times. read more

My sister and I stopped into this winery after dinner, and it was such a great find. The location is new, modern, and very inviting, with beautiful water views and even a sleek rooftop area where guests were enjoying themselves. Booked a last minute New Year's Eve dinner at District Winery and overall it was a good experience. There was a private event in the upstairs but the downstairs was surprisingly not full which allowed for chill, quiet experience. The menu was prix fixe, which we knew ahead of time, and the food entree options appealed to meat and fish eaters and vegetarians. The appetizer consisted of one oyster, some truffle mushroom balls, and cold meats with crackers. Everything was ok, just a bit too salty. The salad was a mix of greens, fruits, dried fruits, and a very yummy dressing. However, the greens were a bit bitter and we ended up leaving most of it. For the main dish I had the halibut and my partner had the steak. The fish was almond crusted and super tasty, unfortunately it was cold when it came out. The steak had to be sent back as it wasn't cooked as ordered. Once they got the temperature right, he enjoyed it. The dessert was a blood orange crème brûlée and a brownie. I was so full at this point that I only had a small bite of the crème brûlée and it was ok, a tad cold as if it had been sitting in the fridge all night. We got two bottles of wine and both were mid, we opted for the Malbec which I'd rate a 3/5 and the Cab which was a 4/5. We appreciated the staff, they were very friendly, welcoming and festive. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. It had beautiful views. The music is nice and the furniture gives a very modern luxe feel. My server and the trainee that accompanied greeted me kindly. Explained some of the options given my dietary restrictions. However as soon as I placed my order I never saw them again except to deliver the food. They never once asked how my food was. If I needed salt or pepper, nada. I had the burrata to start. Not much burrata on the dish and lots of beets, golden and red. While I love beets, I think the proportion was a bit unfair. The dressing on top was the real crime. Think a super lemony thousand island dressing--it totally overpowered the beets and the burrata. Way too acidic and creamy. I previewed the trout that will be on their new menu for spring/summer. The fish was dry and unseasoned on a bed of salty faro. The asparagus and snap peas were good. The dish is small and sits on a huge plate making you feel something is missing. Other than salty faro there is no flavor at all on this dish. The wine was not my favorite either. I tried the dry Riesling and it had a really buttery finish, which I did not like. I then got the Sauvignon blanc, which may have been one of the worst glasses of wine I've ever had. I could not place it. It did not taste like Sauvignon blanc or any white wine. It tasted like very light white liquor, that is not strong at all. I left hungry, disappointed, and annoyed. Someone who worked there, not my servers, asked me about the trout and I told them. To his credit he offered me a takeaway dessert, but I didn't need to try anything else. read more

This business could not be located in a more picture perfect spot. All the wines at District Winery are vegan!! It is so hard to find guaranteed vegan wine as not all wineries disclose their filtration method. District Winery does not use egg or isinglass for filtering so all their wines are vegan! I enjoyed a glass of the unoaked Chardonnay with their oyster mushrooms and cabbage with peanuts dishes. The wine was superb! I loved every sip of this drink. The food was presented beautifully. The mushrooms were a major winner! They were charred and extremely flavorful with a light gremolade and squeeze of lemon. The cabbage was just ok. I liked how the peanuts were so filling but the flavor was not as impressive as the mushrooms. Overall I left with a wonderful buzz, great customer service from the bartender, and a full belly. The heartier food options are the steak with cauliflower and the fried chicken bites. The steak was tender and juicy with a nice olive on the cauliflower. The crab dip was disappointing as it was runny and not as flavorful as other popular places. I attended an event at District Winery that was a nonprofit fundraiser, Wednesday, October 29, and unfortunately the experience did not meet expectations given the cost and purpose of the event. While the venue itself is undeniably beautiful and the wine flowed generously, there was a clear imbalance in how the event was organized. The food offerings were extremely minimal, especially for an event that spanned several hours and was intended to encourage community support and generosity. For guests attending a nonprofit fundraiser, the lack of adequate food felt dismissive and poorly planned. Nonprofits work incredibly hard to create meaningful, polished events, often stretching limited budgets to provide attendees with a memorable experience. When they choose a venue at this price point, it is reasonable to expect exceptional service, thoughtful coordination, and balance across all aspects of the event. In this case, the setting delivered visually, but the execution fell short in key areas. Beautiful space aside, the overall experience did not reflect the level of care or value that nonprofit partners and their guests deserve. I hope District Winery takes this feedback seriously, as venues hosting nonprofit events play an important role in supporting missions beyond aesthetics alone. read more

Two girlfriends and I were in town and near District Winery. A glass of wine sounded like a perfect stop before some massive storms hit the area so we ducked in. Thankfully District Winery has a full tasting bar with some yummy wines and a gorgeous restaurant where we got a huge assortment of takeout to enjoy with our bottles of wine during the storm. Doing the wine tasting was very fun- Sarah took great care of us and knew so much about the different wines! A deceptively large winery space in the Navy Yard area. The main level is mostly bar and restaurant space, and they have event space on the upper floors, including a very nice outdoor seating area. If you haven't been to District Winery before, you MUST put it on your to-do list! What an amazing experience my wife and I had there celebrating her birthday! I'm not even sure where to start, so let me just start by saying THANK YOU! Special shout outs to Camille (our wonderful, attentive server), Gerald (the manager on duty) who checked on us several times throughout our experience, Chef Steph, Chef Joel, and Chef Nick--who all checked on us several times during our visit. The aforementioned staff couldn't have been any nicer and genuinely cared about our experience and their culinary preparations!! The attention to detail started upon our check-in. The host greeted us in a warm fashion and genuinely seemed pleased we had decided on District Winery to celebrate my wife's birthday. She allowed us to choose our table and we found a beautiful table on the covered outdoor patio overlooking the water. We reached full zen upon sitting down. We were then greeted by Camille, who was exceptionally pleasant and helpful. We ordered two glasses of wine at that point and they were delivered with a complimentary glass of champagne for my wife's birthday! We ordered a few of their starters, and were blown away by the delightful and beautiful presentation of the boards. We had a charcuterie board that looked like it was prepared for a king and queen. We also had a smoked butter board that was wonderfully presented and took our palates on quite a tour. The crunchy focaccia chips sealed the deal with this unique treat! We also ordered a brassica salad that was made with such care I felt bad digging into it! Chef Joel dropped that at our table and explained how it was made. Chef Steph brought us our chicken bites and also explained how they were prepared. Chef Nick then came by to check on all the food, and also dropped off our spring toast, which was topped with a delectable fava bean hummus. Not to be overlooked was the delicious wine we sampled throughout our visit. I believe we tried the unoaked chardonnay from the Finger Lakes region of New York as well as the Verdejo out of Clarksburg, California for our first round. Perfect wines to complement our charcuterie board! We also tried the Rose (Ro-zay) and the sauvignon blanc, both perfect, delicious pairings with our appetizers. I finished with a glass of the red zin. PERFECT! We were also brought a birthday dessert by the staff with a beautiful personal touch added! We spent about three hours there and the staff treated us like we were the most important people in the world. Compliments to the amazing team! WE WILL BE BACK and we will be telling our friends where to go the next time they are looking for a great day out! The venue is gorgeous and the surroundings are breathtaking! Get down there if you haven't been already. They do a ton of group events as well. I wish I had known about this place before I got married five years ago. Food was terrible and super overpriced. My boyfriend and I alone paid $120. I will say the only thing that was worth the money and had some kind of decent flavor was the half chicken. read more

The atmosphere and venue is quite nice but is all the restaurant has to offer. We felt the seasonal wine tasting was mid at best until we tasted the Zinfandel which was heavy on the tannins. The share plates were average and overpriced. Wouldn't go back. read more

What a cool place. This is one of those places where the sum is possibly greater than the parts. I attended a private corporate event here. The hosts were knowledgeable and friendly, leading us through both a trivia night and wine tasting in a well orchestrated ballet. Wines: I was honestly shocked to not hate the Chardonnay from the finger lakes region. I dislike most New York wines. I dislike Chardonnay. But this was actually pretty good. I very much enjoyed the rose but who am I kidding when do I not. Food: the chicken was BLISS. 10/10 get whatever is on offer with the fried chicken. I enjoyed the crab dip as well. Space and vibe: we held our event in a private space with the wine making equipment, while out front was a proper restaurant and bar vibe. Everyone there was at least ten years younger than me, but it was a weekday evening so that made sense. Very relaxed and lots of chatting. Thanks for hosting us! I went to District Winery for a birthday celebration, and it was a great experience. We did the tasting at the bar, where, for $20, a wine educator guided us through the winemaking process while we sampled and discussed five of their signature wines of our choosing. While we didn't try their main menu, we had the Chef's Whim, which is a charcuterie board featuring a selection of vegetables, fruits, cheeses, and meats. It was delicious, with especially tasty spreads. The ambiance is beautiful, with elegant decor and stunning waterfront views. It's the perfect spot for a post-tasting stroll, making it an ideal choice for a night out with friends or a romantic date. I recommend this place. read more
