Black owned business I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and I'm glad that I finally did. First, don't expect table side service, you have to use a QR code to order your meal and put in an "order" to speak with someone. While this wasn't the best, it worked for what we needed which was to ask questions about the menu. Next, you cannot get a glass of wine during the weekend brunch/lunch but you can purchase a bottle and take the rest home. Lastly, there was nobody at the front door so we simply walked into the restaurant and sat ourselves. Beautiful restaurant however, more on the speakeasy/rustic side. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let's get into why I gave this place a good rating. Well, the wine selection and pasta were enough to make me beyond happy. But the cost was a bit questionable. Pasta- shrimp and caviar (can't remember the sauce) but know this dish was hearty, bursting with flavor, and freshly prepared. It was absolutely delicious with every bite. Wine selection- I ordered a remarkable bottle of 2022 white wine and the citrus and stone fruits made it perfect for the shrimp and caviar. The prices for both the bottle and pasta were really expensive but honestly, I didn't feel bad because I enjoyed both. Now, I do plan on visiting during hours when I can order a glass of wine because with the cost of the food and the cost of the bottles, it wasn't cost-effective for a single diner at all. The wine is good and the food is good. But I find the fact that they don't let you order wine by the glass (or even by the half bottle or carafe) in much of the seating areas to be extremely irritating and obnoxious. It's a wine bar! God forbid you'd like to try something without spending at least $50 on a bottle. More annoyingly, I think they do offer wine by the glass but you can only get it from the bar. Now, you can order cocktails from the bar and you can order food from the kitchen, but somehow wine by the glass is an impossible ask. I understand it's probably a business decision to maximize revenue but there are plenty of wine bars in the area that aren't this annoying and I'd encourage people to go there rather than here. read more

We sipped on the Strawberry Night in São Paolo and French 75, then shared the bread service and Duck Croquettes to start. The Lobster Bucatini was the standout of the night--absolutely fantastic. TL;DR: Excellent food and wine, but an extremely disappointing hospitality experience. A mandatory 20% service charge for what amounted to almost entirely self-service, followed by being pushed out of our table while we were actively drinking and planning to order dinner, made us feel less like guests and more like cattle being moved through a system. The food was good enough to overlook a lot--but not that. Great Food, Great Wine--Then Everything Fell Apart I'm a DC local with 10 years of experience in the restaurant service industry, and this was my first visit to St. Vincent Wine. I came with a friend and her husband, who had been before, after seeing the restaurant on Instagram. The evening started wonderfully. The food was genuinely delicious, the wine was excellent, and everything we ordered--the four meats and four cheeses, halloumi, charred eggplant dip, and truffle curly fries--was great. We were planning to stay for dinner and at least two more bottles of wine. I had already decided on the smoked wagyu brisket bolognese. We were settled in, enjoying ourselves, and fully intending to keep spending money. The 20% Service Charge Is Hard to Justify The service was, frankly, almost nonexistent. We were charged an automatic 20% service charge, yet practically everything about the experience was self-service. We ordered everything ourselves through a QR code on our phones. Our champagne and wine were brought out in a large white paint bucket, already opened. There was no wine service whatsoever. And yes, the white paint bucket was particularly fitting in retrospect. Our table also wasn't bussed. Dirty plates, glasses, and silverware accumulated throughout the evening. I eventually moved everything to the end of the table to make it easier for someone to clear, and still nobody came. I ultimately had to ask someone to bus the table myself. I can appreciate a deliberately casual service model. What I don't understand is charging 20% for service when the actual service provided was so minimal. As someone who worked in restaurants for nearly a decade, I found that particularly difficult to justify. Then We Were Treated Like We Were in the Way The biggest problem, however, came about an hour and 40 minutes into our visit. The hostess, Sula (apologies if I'm misspelling her name), politely told us that we needed to give up our table because another party was waiting for it. To be fair, Sula was kind, and I don't blame her for delivering the message. I also understand that restaurants have reservations and table-turn expectations. But context matters. We weren't sitting there after dinner nursing one drink. We ordered the Umamu Rosé and at least two bottles of expensive bubbly, along with multiple dishes, and were still planning to order dinner and more wine. I had already decided on the smoked wagyu brisket bolognese. Being told to give up our table under those circumstances made us feel like we were simply another number that needed to be moved out of the way for the next group. Honestly, I felt like cattle being herded through the restaurant. That might sound dramatic, but that's genuinely how the interaction felt: move this table along, make room for the next one, keep things moving. The Manager Was Kind--But the Solution Didn't Fix the Problem I voiced my frustration, and Allison, the manager, came over. She was extremely kind and courteous, and I genuinely appreciate that she tried to resolve the situation. My issue is not with her personally. Unfortunately, the solution was to move us upstairs to a corner of the veranda, where we would essentially sit overlooking the table and patio we'd just been asked to leave. At that point, the experience was dead. We had been looking forward to dinner. I was excited about the bolognese. We were planning to drink more wine and enjoy the evening. Instead, we were relocated because another party needed our table, and the entire mood was gone. We lost our appetite and left. That's What Makes This So Frustrating The frustrating part is that I could have overlooked almost everything else. The QR-code ordering? Fine. The lack of traditional wine service? Fine. The dirty dishes accumulating on the table? Annoying, but fine. The 20% service charge? Already questionable, but I could have swallowed it. The food was good. The wine was excellent. The company was great. I was having a good time. But the combination of paying a mandatory 20% service charge for extremely limited service and then being told to surrender our table while we were actively eating, drinking, and planning to order more was too much. Hospitality isn't just about the food and wine. It's about how you make people feel while they're spending their money with you. read more

St. Vincent is a absolutely gorgeous. It has a cozy, warm cabin vibe that you might expect at a ski resort. All it's missing is a fireplace. The highlights were the mac and cheese and the fries especially when they were hot. I would definitely come back just for either one of those. You can purchase wine tastings, wines by the glass or bottle. They have a huge stock from their wine store downstairs as well. My only complaint is I arrived about 15min before they opened and I was unaware. As I was outside struggling to figure out how to enter a man watched me and finally told me in a rude tone that they weren't open yet. I found him to be unnecessarily rude. Updating my review based on a recent visit and was surprised at what a different experience I had this go around. I am in the local Petworth family group. They organized an outing of parents to come here on a weeknight and arranged a table on the back covered patio. I think what I found frustrating, as others have noted, was the only way to order here is by scanning the QR code. It is so impersonal. But what is even more difficult to believe is that this is a wine bar. Yet, you can't order a glass of wine from that QR code. You can get a cocktail... A full bottle. Oh, and you can even order a tote bag. But a single glass of wine? Nope, it says you have to go upstairs inside at the bar if you want one. There were single parents joining that night since they were splitting duties to allow the other to be out that night. It was a Thursday night and while it would have been a wild night to drink a bottle solo, most of the solo parents opted not to get anything to drink at all since they didn't want to leave the group. They came to socialize, not split from the group and weren't feeling a cocktail or tote. The service was bad this recent visit. As soon as we sat down, rather than any type of friendly exchanges, the server said we had until only 9 PM to order food and they were strict on that so we should get the order in now or we wouldn't get anything. Also the bar closed at 9:30 PM. Really? Is this DC or Salt Lake City? I think the final straw for me (and everyone) was that at 9 PM, they turned off the back patio heat. And turned on the ceiling fan inside. It was in the low 40s that night. This is just bad service and we all agreed that we didn't feel welcomed. We all closed our tabs and headed to another nearby establishment, and had a much better time and they kept the heat on for us. I'm sad to write this. I love having a nearby wine bar. My previous experience was great (though it was just me and my partner and we sat inside at the bar). Would I go here again? Maybe, but I'd say it's no longer at the top of my list. I certainly wouldn't recommend it for a larger outing or even a small group since the current way this bar is set up is not ideal. I had dinner here recently with some friends. We made reservations for the patio, which is lovely and huge! The weather wasn't too hot so it was perfect. Once we sat down we were immediately brought waters. They don't have traditional servers though and you have to order on the app. We decided to share a bottle of rose and for starters we got the cauliflower and Caesar salad. Both were good. I really enjoyed the Cauliflower. For dinner, I got the wagyu brisket bolognese. It was good. I wasn't blown away. I enjoyed it but was expecting a little more "oomph" from the wagyu brisket. Cute date night spot or just a night out with friends! I remember hearing so much about this place during the pandemic. They have a huge outdoor space, and this was very important during those times. Visited here this past weekend for the first time. We had a reservation and initially sat at a table by the window upstairs. It was cold so we were inside. There's a QR code to scan and pay and your orders come to the table. I like technology for the most part but sometimes I prefer to interact with a server. We asked to have someone help us with some recommendations. Someone did come up to help us and she was very nice. We still ended up moving to the bar and the night went much smoother from there on out. We were able to engage with the bartenders, Ashley and Allison, who were amazing by the way. They have very unique wines and there's a cocktail list. There's even a wine shop on the first floor. They don't offer flights here, which I think they should. There's just a few wines by the glass and everything else is by the bottle. Our fave of the night was a red - Two Sheperds Carignan Old Vine. Definitely recommend that one. St. Vincent's has been on my list of restaurants to check out for some time. It's not very far from me, and I could even walk there if I wanted to. Looks are deceiving because the space seems small from the outside, but there are two floors and my boyfriend and I were seated in the upstairs bar which is a bit more quaint. The aesthetic is dark, intimate and has rustic features, so cute for a date night. I would say the service is ok, but not exceptional in the sense that it's not a traditional dining experience where you get checked in or asked how the food is. You scan the QR code, and then the food is promptly brought to your table. I think our food came out within 5 minutes of us ordering it which was very surprising. We expected the food to take a while to come out so we finished it rather quickly. I ordered the lobster bucatini which was a great dish and very savory, while my boyfriend ordered the macaroni and cheese that had breadcrumbs on top. That was also very rich and creamy. For dessert, I had the coffee creme brûlée which definitely had a strong taste of coffee. The brûlée was very light and almost creamy. I prefer when it has the firm crust before you break into it, but this didn't have that. If I was to go back, I'd probably wait a bit before ordering so I can appreciate the music. I specifically came to see the live jazz performance, but from where we were seated we couldn't actually see the band. They were around the corner in a smaller section with a few people watching. I assumed they played in a way where they were visible to all. I think I went in expecting one thing, and experienced something different. I've been wanting to go to St.Vincent Wine for soooo long and I finally got the chance to stop in with friends after a yoga class. The front of the shop makes you think that the space is very small and will have limited space. When you walk into their back outdoor space you quickly realize that that is not the case at all. There were at least 20 tables in their outdoor area and it is the perfect place to be on a beautiful Sunday. Here are the things that we loved, + Live music on Sundays, yes and yes! Such a nice touch + The mimosas were pretty good and I like that you can request as many glasses as you need and can share the bottle with multiple people + Order from your phone and close your tab. This feature makes it very convenient when eating out with friends or if you're hungry and don't want to wait for the waiter it makes it so easy + Truffle fries were great, I just wish the portion was a little larger And the things we didn't love as much, + I wasn't really a fan of the waffle and chicken and it was pretty pricey but my mom enjoyed it I will definitely be back. That said, once we ordered, the food came out blazingly fast. - the bolognese was delicious, the pasta was cooked well with a solid sauce to pasta ratio and a good peppery undertone. the black miso cacio pepe had a different pasta shape in the photo so that bummed me out but these noodles were so soft and almost melted - the homemade potato chips and horseradish dip to me was everything and more. We had a very disappointing experience at St. Vincent Wine Bar. We made a reservation for a friend's birthday and initially were slated to be outside, but it quickly became clear that it was extremely cold and windy. Because of that, we went upstairs to the bar area, which is first come, first served. The bar was completely empty, and the bartender explicitly told us it was fine to stand while waiting. Shortly after, a staff member named Kirsten approached us and told us we could not stand at the bar and that everyone needed a seat, directly contradicting what the bartender had said. She was rude and inflexible, despite the fact that the bar was empty and our group had just arrived. We were then forced back outside to a tent that staff claimed was heated. It was not. The tent was cold, very windy, and honestly felt unsafe due to how exposed it was. They should not take reservations there in the winter. We tried to make it work but left after about 30 minutes because the conditions were so uncomfortable. Before leaving, we checked the upstairs bar again and it was still empty. On our way out, we calmly shared our frustration about being turned away from an empty indoor space, especially on a random Monday night when the place was clearly not busy. Kirsten responded rudely again and showed no interest in resolving the situation. They ended up losing our entire group's business, and we would have happily stayed, ordered drinks, and celebrated if we had been treated reasonably. Poor communication, unnecessary rigidity, and unprofessional service made what should have been a fun birthday outing a letdown. We will not be returning. read more

I am so glad to have stumbled upon St Vincent Wines Instagram profile! I decided to visit on May 2nd for a few relaxed sips with family. St Vincent had a vast selection of wines and a versatile menu of food pairings to match. I prefer white most days so I tried a couple different varieties. The Sauvignon Blanc Being my favorite. The young ladies behind the bar were knowledgeable and helpful. Majority of the wines are for purchase by the bottle so bring friends! I ordered the ricotta and warm olives to share and it was creamy, salty goodness. I also had the fried chicken which was crunchy and well seasoned. A few truffle fries and it was a feast! I truly enjoyed the low light, dark wooded vibes they had. There was a back patio and garden area with small lights lining the patio. There was a nice sized crowd outside so I didn't get many pics but it looked like people were enjoying a breeze and bites out there as well. I will be back.
