It's a good balance: you'll build your skill set and learn the practicalities of metalsmithing, but also learn to understand your own creative vision, which you can work on during open studio hours. The vibe is really chill (Dan plays great music!), all the teachers are kind and helpful and supportive, your fellow students are all interesting and fun, and overall this is the kind of space where you feel like you're able to make mistakes and still learn and grow from them. If you've ever wanted to learn the true craft of metalsmithing to make fine jewelry, this is the place to do it.

It can feel like a real leap of faith to do something so personal and important in such an unconventional way, and to put your trust in a stranger and in your own ability to learn something you have never even considered before--but I am so glad I took it. I have an experience I will remember for the rest of my life, my fiancée (she said yes of course!) has a beautiful, truly one-of-a-kind heirloom she adores and values beyond measure, and we have a story we will tell over and over again. She is already getting questions about where I found her ring, and her friends are already gushing about how amazed they are I made it. Honestly, I am amazed too. I wasn't sure I could make a ring that looked better than a beginner's craft project!--but that was before I met Dan. I had a personal design idea that not only do they not sell in stores, they don't even really sell jade cut how I needed. As far as I can tell, no one had done this before. Well, now someone has, it turned out incredible, and it's all because Dan made it possible. He went above and so far beyond. As a craftsman he is not just skilled, but meticulous, and determined to make sure every product he works on meets his high standard of excellence. As a teacher he is patient, knowledgeable, and eager to share and show what he knows--which is a lot.  And to top it all off, he is a real man of his word--exactly the kind of person you want to put your trust in when dealing with precious metals, stones, and memories. Pool closures. This has been going on for years and Old City Swim hasn't managed to switch pools. There is no place for kids to change because they are forbidden from using the locker rooms (!!!). Old City Swim placed two tiny partitions by the corners of the pool, each can accommodate 1 child at a time resulting in wet, cold kids waiting 20 minutes for their turn to change or just getting naked and changing in the open. Scheduling staff are rude and inflexible. The fact that Old City Swim survives is mostly a comment on DCs paucity of kids swim options. ​

Typically, there is hardly family restrooms to accommodate a father and daughter. The person said ok, but did not send the address to began the lesson as she stated. I sent an email a day before the appointment she said she scheduled and asked why didn't I receive the address. She said very rudely, she needed confirmation if my son (again wrong gender) was potty trained. I responded, that I answered that already and if my answers was a problem, then she should have told me. Her attitude did not align with the reviews and I am very disappointed. In her previous swim class, she was required to wear a pull up underneath a swim pamper and she was a year old. Maybe this can be implemented if you don't trust the parent word.

I understand that it's a small business and that a hiccup back in the summer of 2024 had delayed all retro orders, but what I don't like is that they gave several dates of delivery of my completed shoes, only for them to drop the ball each time. Their last response was through a DM from March of 2025. I've been trying to reach out to them since then, but still no response. I would either want my completed product that I paid over $150 for the service on or my money back plus the cost of my sneakers. They need to spend less time posting shorts everyday on Social Media and more time on their customer service follow ups and providing a service we spend so much money on. They over promise and under deliver. I am very close to filing a lawsuit as this is theft.

His small studio on the 3rd floor of a brick row house right next to Cafe Saint Ex is as visually enticing as it is warm and inviting. It's also the perfect location to take a one-on-one art class - where you can learn about (and learn to create!) all different types of art! Miguel works with all mediums - from oil and encaustic to printing his own photography onto metal. A lot of his art pieces are for sale in his studio. He also does commissioned pieces, and recently created a 5 piece art installation for the front lobby of the "Church Place" condo building, located at 1520 16th St. NW, Wash DC. Miguel is also a very active member of DC's "Mid City Artists" collaborative, and regularly participates in their bi-annual Open Studios Tour.
