A black owned liquor store? Yes!!!! I don't even know if you can even call this a liquor store, because it also sale gourmet pre packaged meals, and bread, ice cream and slew of other things that you wouldn't expect to find in a liquor store. The alcohol that they sale is something that you won't be able to get at your local run of the mill liquor store. Think Trader Joe's, but for liquor. They carry liquor from black owned distilleries as well. You're also allowed to do some taste testing as well. This is a cool spot, and it really does feel like a House Bar. The employees are friendly and helpful, nice tunes while you shop, and an array of different types of liquor and food. I'd would visit more often, but visiting liquors is how bad habits are formed lol. But in all seriousness, check this place out next time you're at the Yards. You won't be disappointed.

This place is more than just your average liquor store. Housebar is a one stop shop designed to help you create the perfect drink in your home. It's also Black-owned! I live in the neighborhood so I stopped in one day to feed into my curiosity. Kevin did a great job at explaining the concept to me and highlighting some of the great selections. They have a pretty nice selection of spirits, wine, beer and snacks! I prefer whiskey and they had a lot of my favs in there. They even have individual canned cocktails from California if you need something small but necessarily an entire bottle. I stopped in NYE to grab a bottle ring in the new year and also add to my collection. Kevin did a great job of offering up some recommendations. If you need help crafting a cocktail they will help you pick out all of the ingredients. I even saw some good items for mocktails. I love that they partner with local businesses so if you're looking for a local product, this is your spot. If you don't see something you're looking for just ask and they'll let you know if they have it or if it'll be coming soon. They have tasting events and you can even taste some of the spirits in store. The snack section is pretty solid. Boozy ice cream is definitely a plus. This is going to be a neighborhood staple whenever I'm in need of some liquor.

They have really great bread lol. So I don't drink, but my friends do. We dropped in to pick up a few things for a get together. They carry a unique selection of alcohol that you won't find in regular grocery stores. The staff was helpful in picking out liquor that my friends would like. Me, on the other hand, was looking at snacks and bread. Not sure if they bake the bread there, but everything I've had has been fresh and delicious. I recommend their brioche buns, sourdough loaf, and baguettes.

Walked by Housebar after leaving a restaurant down the street. I had no idea it was open and love the vibe inside. This is a store and not a place to grab a drink. A couple of folks asked about opening their beverages their and that had to be clarified. Kevin was managing the store and he did an amazing job welcoming everybody in, highlighting a few brands, and answering questions. I love that they highlight women and minority owned brands. They also provide chilled options if you need wine or beer immediately. I ended up buying a bottle of vodka from a local DC brand. Excited to try it. If you are looking for a bottle before heading to a party or restocking your bar, this is the place to do it!

10/10 recommend! It was so welcoming and felt like you were at friends gathering that had stacked bar! They really offered everything you needed to create the perfect cocktail and mixers. It's snacks, books and they carried a lot of small business owned products as well! This is my first visit to a black owned liquor store!

Not impressed. Place is ok, prices are high and selection is weak. Save some money and head to Harry's a few blocks away

I was pulling up Yelp to see what bar we wanted to go after and saw this on the list. We were initially going to go to the karaoke bar next door but when we walked inside, it was wayyyy too loud and obnoxious so we were like perfect let's go across the street! We walk into the ramen spot and ask where the speakeasy is and the guy led us to the back and showed us to some stairs to go down. Seriously, how COOL is this place??? The neon lights were so fun! We walked into the bar and immediately loved it! Good amount of bar seating plus some comfy couches and whatnot. There was music but it wasn't too obnoxious, we were still able to have conversations - it was surprisingly chill and exactly what we were looking for. Chatted to the bartender who made some fancy shots for us, had a few drinks. It was not busy at all on a Sat night which was nice. It is very dark inside even with the neon lights so it does make it hard to read the menus (had to use flashlights on our phone). But super fun spot, fun drinks, not too expensive, and a neat and chill experience! It was an excellent find for us for sure!

Trouble Bird was the answer to my prayers on a recent trip, where I was looking to have high quality drinks and a laid-back NON-commercial vibe with my team. We liked it so much, we came twice in one week, and I was impressed at their ability to handle and be comfortable for a large group in a space that can feel intimate. The lighting is nice and moody, the menu available via QR code, and the WiFi free and listed with password for patrons to use. We had excellent service both times, by the two folks working each night for a groups of 6-8 each time. There was something for everyone from the nondrinkers to the beer enthusiasts, to cocktail aficionados like myself. There's an amazing happy hour deal, with discounts on drinks all Monday and reduced prices for a couple of hours on other weekdays; it almost felt criminal how generous the happy hour was when I've gotten used to paying $20 for a mediocre cocktail at other nearby establishments. And the cocktails here are really very good, probably the best in the area, except for their immediate next door neighbor. The group favorite cocktail was the Midori sour which was incredibly well balanced and refreshing, and the surprising crowd pleaser was the Hamilton Dry Float, which came in a creepy tiki mug presentation that we really loved. We had a couple of the bar bites - the spiced peanuts were well loved across the group but my person favorite food item was the blistered shishitos, which came with a great chipotle aioli. The bathrooms are extremely clean and overall this was a bar favorite for the group for our week of going out and socializing together. Overall this is a gem of a neighborhood hangout with really excellent cocktails and service! Will absolutely come here next time I'm in town!
