Small store but a lot of variety. I am on vacation from San Diego so needed a screw top bottle of wine. Plenty of selection at decent prices for sure. Plenty of hard alcohol as well. Great selection, but the prices can be high. They had a lot of sought after bourbons (Weller, Blanton etc.), but at secondary market prices so there's dust on the bottles. Most of the regular bourbons seemed a dollar or two within regular prices. Beer wise they had a cooler with several doors of choices all the way in the back. They had a few doors of local and national craft brews with some rarer bottles on a shelf close to the cooler. I scored some old Stone Barrel Aged Imperial Stouts, but they were a few years old. (In my opinion and experience aging beers like this although optional and sometimes recommended is not always best.) I was happy with my craft beer purchases and returned a second time for more of the Stone Barrel Aged brews. The staff was nice enough and somewhat helpful. Seemed like a family run operation. Overall I can't complain, I found what I needed within walking distance from the hotel. That's a win. read more

i called myself being proactive and having my food delivered. I was told my groceries would be delayed because the trucks didn't come in yet. So I gave them benefit. Only for them to finally pack my bags and leave and when I called I was told they didn't have someone to deliver my food and I should order door dash to pick up my food. Them I spent way over an hour to get through to customer service and I still have not received my refund. This store is beyond terrible I will never shop there again in person or online. I have not had an alcoholic beverage in over a decade so I didn't expect to be reviewing a liquor store, however, I was walking with my kid on a sweltering summer day down K Street after a kid festival and our water bottles were empty, so we popped in this store to buy cold bottled water. The inside of the store was clean and quiet, which I appreciated. The staff was friendly and helpful. They had a wide selection of non-alcoholic drinks, including a couple options for cold bottled water. I bought two bottles of Deer Park water and was surprised at how inexpensive they were - I think CVS charges more which is normally where I would have thought to go. read more

Much higher than it looks with a good selection of wine from $15 to $200/bottle. Liquor area also looks good with a good selection as well. It was nice to find this close to our hotel to enjoy a glass of wine at night. The staff seams nice and helpful as well. Prices are marked up from a Total Wine but location is everything. read more

A-1 Wine & Liquor is a bigger than you'd expect for one of the only wine stores in downtown D.C. Quaint from the outside, the store goes deeper back with many rows of all kinds of wines, beer and liquor. They have a section of cold white wines and a row of fridges of beer in the back. The staff are helpful. I grabbed a bottle of zinfandel for $12 after work for a party. read more

It is a great liquor store, with a big variety of single malt that are hard to find in other stores, I drive all the way from Alexandria VA where we only have ABC, because here we find all the single malt scotch that I like. Moreover, they offer great services like lottery, check cashing and Western Union. I totally recommend this liquor store. read more

Nothing to rave about, nothing to complain about. I agree that location is key to customers, and on our way from my bf's office to the metro, we stopped here to pick up some wine and beer to bring to a presidential debate viewing party. (How DC are we?) Disclaimer: I do NOT drink and know almost nothing about alcohol, but that said, the store did appear to have a large selection of wine and beer. My boyfriend found Sam Adams' Octoberfest. It's a big hit in the NE. For a 6 pack of Sam Adams and a bottle of wine, the price came out to a little under $30. The cashier, and I presume owner, was friendly enough and wished us a good night. read more

I stop here regularly to pick up stuff for work. This is a solid place and has almost anything you could possibly need for a work meeting - vodka ranging from cheap-o to fairly fancy, decently priced champagne/sparkling wine/regular wine, big things of beer. I have made two exciting finds here: 1. Seadogs Blueberry Beer! and 2. Grape-flavored Smirnoff Ice! Seadogs Blueberry is an incredible beer and isn't too common around here. And I can NEVER find Smirnoff Ice in the flavors that I like: Grape. This was an extremely exciting find and I bought it immediately. Right about location being key, but even if I were farther away from here I would still choose A-1 over the other close liquor store on 12th and E. There is a clear difference in selection and store layout/brightness making shopping here a joy as opposed to a pain/chore. read more

Stopped in here the other night again. Have to give them another star to the rating. The staff was knowlegable and incredibly helpful on my last visit. They also keep a couple 12 packs of Coke in the cooler in case you're looking for that immediate rum and coke when you get home. read more

This liquor store isn't bad, but it isn't particularly great either. The selection on certain items, like single malt scotch and vodka, is only middling and the prices are about 10 to 25 dollars more than what I would pay elsewhere. They seem to carry a few rare items, seemingly randomly, like cask strength whiskey, or unusual gems. The staff is polite, but not exactly friendly. They do a pretty good job of creating an atmosphere where you're free to browse. I'm not an expert in wine by any means, so I can't really comment on their selection there; but for liquor, you'll find the basics and maybe one or two interesting things beyond that, but don't expect much more. I suspect they rely heavily on their proximity to George Washington University, and also maybe the government offices surrounding the store. That said, its not a bad little neighborhood liquor store, and will do in a pinch. read more

It looks small and dingy from outside but they've actually got a pretty sizable selection for your beer, wine, and liquor needs. I myself am a beer man, but none of that college stuff, so I was pleased to come inside and find some pretty good craft brews at a reasonable price. They also have a wide range of tobacco products if that's your groove too. read more

The wine selection is actually pretty good for a small downtown liquor store. All of these type of stores downtown are expensive and have a poor selection, but theirs was decent. Bought a 2014 Willm Alsace Pino Gris and the bottle had gone bad. Not sure how a 2014 from a respected producer could have gone bad, but it did. The bottle was obviously not cared for correctly. Maybe they should consider laying their bottles horizontally, rather than vertically, because the cork had eroded and the wine was oxidized. Don't think I was offered a receipt, so I will just eat the $14 bucks. read more
