I went to their champagne class, and it was so well executed! Honestly, as a person who's background is business with a MBA, I could not suggest they do anything better. Started off, I walked in and the owner was swamped with being on the phone, working the computer and was courteous enough to acknowledge me with a smile, asking as he slightly removed the phone how he could help. Then asked my name to check me in. That was probably the best handled "swamped with work" situation I've seen in a long time. Needless to say, the owners are a class act. Both professional and helpful. The class they offered was very insightful, providing heavy duty booklets and tastings of very expensive champagne. Well worth my time and money, and something I hope to do again. Please note the class actually was instructed by sales reps from LVMH fashion house, which sells KRUG, Dom Pérignon and Veve Clicquot. Now on to the other part... Store is very clean, organized and well stocked. They offer a huge variety of wines, in particular champagnes. They do a great job of classifying according to region, and if you need guidance or information, the owner actually comes from a family of wine producers in the champagne region (so he definitely knows his stuff!). Overall, this event exceeded my expectations and I will be looking forward to other events they host. read more

Was in the neighborhood and walked in looking for a good reisling from Alsace because it's reislings offer tremendous caliber and value. Well when I told the owner what I was looking for, rather than tell me he didn't have a good selection and only had one bottle in the store, he told me what he had was out of my price range. Without knowing what I could afford, he assumed that the $49 bottle of mediocre wine he had was out of my price range. While I never found the customer service good, I wasn't expecting that it had deteriorated to this insulting level. A bit of advice for you- When a customer walks into your establishment, never assume anything about them. Your job is to provide the best service you can. If you have a problem doing that then maybe you shouldn't be in a business that depends on public consumers. read more

Most bizarre shop I have ever walked into. I was touring the 14th street neighborhood and happen to stumble upon what appeared a very cute shop. I love checking out wine stores to see what they have in stock. I stumble upon Vin De Constance 2013 a family favorite. Great DESSERT Wine!! I went on wine scavenger a web based wine Encyclopedia if you may. Great source for viewing other professional and nonprofessional ratings. The owner proceeds to tell me you do you know that wine apps and wine websites are a waste of time and are usually completely wrong. I tell her thanks for your opinion. Awkwardly... I am in the wine business .... and review wines myself. As I go to grab the bottle, the owner actually takes it from my hand and takes the price off the wall. She tells me this is the wrong price it's priced too low. . Granted I agree I was surprised to see a 2013 for under 60 bucks. But the bottle was in my hand .. and I told her I was ready to purchase it. Oh it gets better .... she then tells me have a great day. ..... like what??? So my response ok then you too... Best wine store in DC, no questions asked. Very unpretentious prices for an excellent and wide ranging wine selection. I bought 4 bottles that are typically priced at 20 dollars each for only 48 dollars! Another plus is that whoever is manning the cash register knows about every single bottle of wine, and if you have a question, they will know the answer and provide an honest and friendly opinion. Any negative reviews of this store are from people that seem to be mad that the owners of a wine store know more about wine than they do, go figure. We stumbled across this store on the way home in October. I had just presented to the board that week and was feeling a little under the weather. After a long week, I left work a little early, got some oysters, and on the way home saw a little sign for wine tasting. We came in and this nice woman was giving tastings. She didn't notice or rather didn't include us in the tasting at first so we had to muscle our way in a little. We started our tasting and she was very friendly and charming which made up for the earlier moment. We made some jokes and even liked one of the wines enough to buy a bottle. We checked out and the owner was actually from France. We chatted about which arrondissements we lived in (#sorrynotsorry for my humblebrag) and I checked his joke that the baguettes he sold were less than baguettes in France (not true but that's okay). I would probably go for more wine. I like supporting local businesses and, of course, tasting wine so keep em coming and I'll keep buying bottles! read more

She was incredibly flexible in working out a time, extending the usual tasting hours to accommodate our members. Cork & Fork specially ordered several bottles of Bulgarian wine for our event after we mentioned we wanted to focus on less-commonly known wine regions. The sommelier was very knowledgeable about the wines, and our group had a lot of fun learning about this unique wine region. The space was perfect for socializing as we went through the tasting, and convenient to get to (right of two different metro lines). The tasting Cork & Fork arranged for us was one our best-reviewed events of the year. Many of us are already planning to return for their regularly-scheduled tastings! read more

The girlfriend and I were strolling down 14th St from U St. Cork & Fork was one of the stops along the way. C&F is a decent-sized wine shop, but what it packs inside is definitely the good stuff. They do wine tastings on Saturdays at 3PM. This week, they were pouring various Rosés. Truth be told, Rosés are not my favorite wine. That said, since C&F carries quality wines from quality producers, they were actually very good. The staff is exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable about their product. They carry a solid selection of wines both foreign and domestic to include Virginia. Prices are competitive with other wine retailers. While they may have some ultra-pricey wines hidden somewhere in the backroom, I thought they're selection was largely priced to be accessible to most wine drinkers without sacrificing quality. Cork & Fork is definitely one of my favorite wine shops in the DMV. read more

Great wine and beer shop, and as Rebecca F. mentioned, there is no fork! We wandered in for the first time during a rose tasting with the owner. I love a crisp and full flavored rose in the summer, so it was a nice treat. We picked up two rose's and a nice priced bottle of Cava - everything was priced well, and the selection is strong and varied. The owner is pleasant, funny, honest, and appreciates guests opinions about wine, food, and life. I feel so comfortable buying booze here, and asking for advice, and I trust the staffs recommendations. (Aka you can ask a question and not feel stupid regarding booze!) Firstly, the name is definitely a little misleading since they do not have food. Not sure what the "fork" part of the business name stands for, but I digress. This was by far the most disappointing wine tasting I've ever been to. I hesitate to complain since it was a free event if you reserved your space ahead of time (I believe they charge $5 to walk-ins the day of) but I don't see the point of hosting wine tastings if you only plan on offering a *drop* of wine without explaining anything. We were really excited when we first got there because they had at least a dozen wines out that seemed to be part of the tasting, but they were actually only pouring from a select few. Again, I can't really complain about that because the event was free, but it was just odd the way they had everything set up. I definitely would have felt ripped off if I had paid at the door. I got the impression that the staff there does not enjoy doing these tastings as they seemed pretty bitter about it. It seemed like they were intentionally giving us tiny pours because we had reserved spots ahead of time on Eventbrite. Might I add, we were the only people there in the beginning, so it was not like they needed to be stingy to accommodate a large turnout. I saw one group of four in front of us, and two more couples came in as we were leaving, but overall there were not very many people. Both the women working had bad attitudes and were just generally unfriendly toward us. One made some snide comment about my friend "speaking for her husband." Cool. The tasting took all of like 5 minutes since they gave us like 4 drops of wine and didn't explain anything, so we left and headed down to Barcelona Wine Bar for a much better time and delicious sangria. read more

Absolutely great place to shop for wine and get to know it better. Wonderful experience every time I go there. A locally owned place by very knowledgeable family, that carefully chooses every single bottle and can always recommend you something you will enjoy. Owners are always happy to tell you everything about the wine and where/how it's made, they mostly sell it from small vineries that make craft small batches and you won't find this wine in big shops. No matter what kind of occasion we need wine or champagne for I know that I'll get the best for the budget (whether it's $20 or $40 or $60 or smth totally exclusive). Well Disappointed today. I've consistently spent a couple hundred dollars a month. Today I walked in ready to purchase a case with a small $25 Groupon in hand to help supplement the purchase. Unfortunately coupon was 1 day expired (totally my vault) Owner would not make an exception. Kind of left me feeling disenchanted, unappreciated and silly for being loyal. Really impressed with the new kid on the block! I wasn't familiar with Cork & Fork and really, its all Cork and no Fork. C&F is a boutique wine and beer merchant specializing in smaller vineyards and breweries. My husband and I just returned from a trip to Sonoma and visited several smaller, somewhat obscure wineries. We were completely impressed to see many of these represented on the shelves at very reasonable price points. Its a notch up from the wine selection at the nearly Whole Foods, and an entirely different realm from the vino at Cork Market down the road - C&F has considerable domestic representation (lots of California vintners!) and a nice variety of beer as well. The staff is friendly and helpful and the selection is diverse and interesting - its a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. read more

I have never in my life been treated so dismissively and rudely. I had the misfortune of attending a wine tasting here, and it was one of the most unpleasant experiences of my adult life. I walked in with my mom, was told there was a wine tasting, and approached the back. One employee was a kind young American woman; the other was an Argentinian man. The woman welcomed us and poured the first glass, a chardonnay. Multiple bottles were lined up for the rest of the tasting. After the first wine, we waited expectantly for the man behind the table to tell us about the next wines, usher us forward, or, really, acknowledge us in any way. He did not. A couple was standing next to us, blocking the rest of the wines. We waited for a few minutes. I politely asked the couple if they could scoot down a bit so that we could access the rest of the wines. They shuffled a millimeter to their left. This seemed the best we would get, so we turned to the male employee. We were ready to taste the next wines. The employee deliberately and determinedly looked past us, and kept talking to the other couple. We gave him the benefit of the doubt, assuming that he was just finishing his conversation with them, and that he would be with us shortly. Nope. They finished speaking, and he stood behind the table, looking away from us and ignoring us. I conversationally asked him whether we could sample the next wines. (Why did I, the customer, need to ask him, the employee, to do his job?) He unenthusiastically poured the next drink. My mom asked a question about the composition of the wines. She was in the middle of her sentence when the employee interrupted her. A new customer had entered the shop and approached. The employee proceeded not merely to greet the customer but to launch into a full conversation with her over our heads. My mom and I looked at each other. Her mouth was still open from not having been allowed to finish her question. We looked at the employee in silence for a full 30 seconds, shocked. When he deigned to return his attention to us, I told him that my mom hadn't been finished talking. He didn't seem to care. The next few minutes were like wrangling a bobcat. The employee made no attempt to introduce us to the next wines, and we had to ask him multiple times to pour the next ones. Nevermind that this employee looked like he'd rather be having open-heart surgery without anesthesia than serve us. Look, we all have long days; whatever. But this clearly wasn't the case with him. He was happy talking to every other customer but us. All of the other customers were white. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out what was going on here. I don't know or care what was in this person's mind. If you are prejudiced, keep that to yourself. But here's what I expect: I expect that when I enter a store, I am treated with the same decency and respect that every other customer is. I certainly expect not to be blatantly ignored or even talked over by someone soliciting my business. This establishment has lost a potential customer. And if equal treatment matters to you, spend your money elsewhere. read more

Best wine shop in DC. I've been going to Cork & Fork for a couple of years and have never bought a bad grape. Dominique and his staff are the least pretentious per ounce of knowledge in a connaisseur that a customer could ever want. They don't push the more expensive wines and have a superb, unique mid-range collection. True story: I parked my car (illegally) outside the store (no, it wasn't by a fire hydrant, it was a real parking spot that was marked no parking because of weekday construction), so I could run in and grab a case of wine. The whole excursion took less than 10 minutes and I peeked outside twice to see if a meter agent was stalking. The last time I peeked, the meter police had just put a ticket on my car. Without being bummed out because I knew it was my fault, I shrugged and casually told the guy who parked behind me (also running in for wine) that it looked like we got tickets. One of the staff members overheard me, asked me how much the ticket was and handed me $30 as I checked out. The store had about 3 minutes of register issues that delayed my checkout, and he apologized for the delay. I had already thought that Cork & Fork was the best wine store I'd ever been to, but that gesture was above and beyond what a neighborhood store can and should do for its customers. We picked up the Silverado Cabernet Sauvignon for $45, the Kanonkop Pinotage for $35 (maybe?) and the Boschendal Sauvignon Blanc - they were over $100 and we received a raffle ticket for a draw in September. read more

My daughter's 21st birthday was coming up the next day so I wanted to arrange a surprise delivery of a couple of nice bottles of champagne to her before she went out to celebrate with friends. I called Cork & Fork and Dominique answered. I requested a particular bottle and he suggested another. Unbeknownst to me at the time, my daughter was to be out at an event almost all day and ended up giving me changing return times. Consequently, I reluctantly had to call Dominique at least 5 times to re-arrange the surprise delivery. Finally, I got a time and he delivered chilled bottles to her doorstep at the perfect time! She was so excited about getting the bottles in time to toast her 21st with friends! Dominique was such a trooper! He was always patient, kind and understanding with each of the annoying calls from with this crazy mom trying to coordinate this delivery from San Francisco. I even got a call from a Cork & Fork staff person confirming the delivery! Wow, what exemplary customer service. She loved his selection and told me she'd be his next loyal customer! Came here for the very first time to check out their Tour de France Wine Tasting Series: Stages 10-15, and had a very pleasant experience! The event was free, and we registered on Eventbrite just to secure a spot. We arrived a little later than the event start time, but the friendly and upbeat speaker welcomed us as soon he saw us, promptly pouring us a glass of the first wine. I noticed he also did the same in acknowledging others who trickled in much later. We were able to sample a good selection of 6 wines. The speaker was well informed of each of their origins, open to answer any questions and making pairing suggestions. Previous reviews have complained about only being served drops, but this speaker was very generous in pouring out our samples- close to half of a standard serving. We browsed the store afterwards, which was very clean and organized. Every bottle was clearly labeled, with prices and descriptions. There seemed to be a good mixture of affordable and more high end wines from around the world. The man at the cashier also offered his assistance. Overall, I was pleased with the customer service and the welcoming atmosphere I experienced, and can definitely see myself coming back here. read more

I really cannot believe that anyone would give Cork and Fork anything less than 4 or 5 stars. Their convenient location on 14th Street NW stocks a great selection of beer and wine -- both domestic and imported. Their staff is incredibly helpful and Dominique, himself, is a great, down-to-earth guy despite having been a winemaker in France in the past. On Fridays and Saturdays, they offer tastings of many of their wonderful wines. I've found their tasting selections to be well thought out and the atmosphere inviting. And their prices are pretty good too. If you haven't yet been to Cork & Fork, go on a Friday evening so you can experience some great wines and great people. read more

I visited this establishment for a Sunday wine tasting event. I paid for tickets on eventbrite and the description said that we will have 5 to 8 wine tastings and they were going to have speakers talk about wine and wine pairings. I assumed it was a restaurant that sold wine due to the name (cork and fork) but it appears to only be a wine store which is no issue for me but the name was somewhat misleading. I walked in the door and I saw a table with about 5 or 6 wines and another table with cheeses. I waited to show them my tickets but the clerk told me to go ahead and get cheese and then proceeded with the wine tasting. Other people started coming in as well, so I wondered if I even needed to purchase tickets which was 5 dollars and don't get me wrong I think it was worth 5 dollars but I just wondered if it was actually free. Anyway...the cheeses were great and the DROPS of wine was good while the clerk/server poured herself twice as much to taste the wine in order to answer the questions I asked regarding the pairing choices. After that you just left and they didn't really talk about the wines other than the name and where it was made. I thought it was going to be more involved than it was compared to other store wine tastings I have visited. The owner seemed nice but I did not interact with him. All in all, the wine tasting was okay but it was not what I thought according to the description on the tickets I purchased. read more
