Looking for a happy hour fat and Navy yard is always a hit or miss but luckily we made this one just in time and the waiter was super informative about getting our order in before happy hour Ended. to make sure that we were good and can still get the same price. It was pretty disappointing overall and lacked the quality you would expect from a place at this price point. On top of that, the portions do not match what you are paying. Drinks are almost always strong, but have enough juice that it's good even to those who don't drink alcohol often. The service is pretty often average to poor, which is surprising. Usually a smaller place has better service since waiters are always walking by, but it's pretty easy to be ignored here. Music is usually great and overall ambiance is fine. After a long day of traveling from CA, we were hungry and ready for dinner. Just steps from our hotel in Navy Yard next to the Nationals stadium is this super cute and bumpin' place with exceptional service. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and yuce fries with an Atlas Pilsner (local brewery). The soup was super flavorful and hearty with a lot of chicken. I was surprised how large of a bowl it was. My spouse ordered the birria tacos and he thought they were above average (we come from East San Jose, where birria is everywhere). My kid loved the mashed black beans and rice. Yeah... this was a disappointment as for someone visiting from San Diego to Washington for the first time. I decided to sit at the bar. And the bar was full, but everyone was taken care of. I'm not sure if it's because I was sitting in the corner but I just didn't receive the full attentiveness as the other guests. I did get greeted right away. I did get a water. My order was put in quickly and put out quickly, HOWEVER I never received utensils. The bartender even saw me eating with my fingers and didn't even offer anything. Our wait was about 10-15 minutes, I didn't like that the entrance/exit was very tight with no guest seating if you are waiting. The patio isn't the best to sit at so I wouldn't recommend anyone to sit out there. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. I am very particular on my Mexican food and they passed my tastebuds test. The food was fresh and packed with flavor. We got the 8 ounce frozen margarita, but they offer a bigger sized option also. I've never seen or had Blackberry flavor so we got that mixed with mango. It was really good, and reminded me of Sangria . It was really lively inside with up best music and laughter/conversation throughout the restaurant. Our bill was almost $100, we spent more than we planned to but with the service charge and DC tax the cost was raised a bit. The manager dropped by to check on us, which was nice. It's very limited options. And perhaps I'm spoiled but I'm used to chips and salsa being free but here it's included on the hh menu. I got chips and guac which wasn't on the hh menu. The good: the service was fast and friendly, able to help with modifying drink orders and quick to get everything to the table. The food here was solid. The smoked tomato salsa was great and my beef enchiladas were a standout. The mediocre: the drinks are available in large portions and our margaritas were pretty good but a word to the wise that their base tequila is Cuervo which may or may not offend you.
