First time ordering from Bartaco. Decided to go in and place a takeout order of two rice bowls, chips and guacamole. The service was very friendly. The hostess greeted me and asked if I'd ever been to the restaurant before. She directed me to the back counter where I was able to review the menu and place my order. The server at this register was also very nice. I liked the texture of the rice bowls and everything was cooked well. However, the portions for everything were smaller than I expected for the price. Bartaco offers items with mushrooms, falafel, and cauliflower. However I think it would be great if they could offer something with tofu as there is not a protein option for vegans. The chips and guacamole were decent but nothing special. Interesting that the chips come as large pieces instead of as individual chips. I'd maybe stop in again if I was nearby but I'm not sure I'm eager to return. read more

The patio is nice on those warmer days. Drinks, food, and people watching. I've been to many of these types of places in DC. Sophisticated tacos were good but smaller. My half of chicken was ok. Just grilled and needed lots more seasoning and maybe a side should come with it. The trio was good. The drinks I had weren't strong enough. We go to Vida fitness at the city center location. We often eat at chipotle or rasa post workout. We decided to try this place. Great ambiance and service. It wasn't too crowded after 2 pm. Everything in their menu is decently priced. I was very hungry so I ordered the half roasted chicken with brown rice and some seasonal fruits. The chicken tasted delicious. The chimichuri sauce complimented the roast chicken very well. I am going to come back again to try that tacos. read more

My friend recommended this place, and I was very happy with the experience! We didn't have any issues getting a table even on a Friday evening, and service was quick with all the food arriving in rapid succession within 10 minutes of ordering. We each got 2 tacos and shared 3 sides (large guac/chips, plantains, and the corn) and were full from that! I got the falafel (easily made vegan without the tzatziki sauce) and the pistachio cauliflower (vegan as is) which were both very flavorful! The falafel, which looked simple, had a nice hint of spice, and the herbs with the pistachio cauliflower were very fragrant. We both enjoyed the guac and plantains, but the corn had a strange aftertaste so we didn't finish it. Overall though it was a delicious meal and I would be back! read more

Bartaco is a chain that I've sampled in the Atlanta area and now, in the DMV. Located on K St above Chinatown in downtown DC, Bartaco has a specific ambiance that evokes a coastal surf town in Southern California. This location had that ambiance and does a great job with it. The food is consistently good and decently priced ($3-$4 per taco) and this time I tried some drinks as well, all of which were pretty good. Enjoyed the experience at this location and will definitely be back. My companion and I started with mojitos which were very tasty and not too full of debris like mojitos are prone to be. Rating this a 4/5 because they definitely could have been stronger. Later, my companion got a spicy margarita which I sampled and thought was very good (no picture attached unfortunately) and I got a caipirinha (also not pictured). The management and service staff was very helpful throughout and even answered some questions we had regarding the caipirinha's origins. Drink was 5/5, as was the service. We also sampled the Reviver cocktail, which was a gin and cucumber drink that was pretty good and a refreshing way to end the meal; rating a 4/5 because it promised mango, hence the yellow color, but really just tasted like cucumber. For food, my companion and I got two tacos each and these did not disappoint. These two tacos, the Baja Fish and the Cauliflower are my go to tacos at Bartaco. The Baja Fish is always fried to crispy perfection and the cauliflower taco is covered in a romesco style salsa that is nutty and delightful. Both were a 5/5. We also started with chips and salsa, which are enjoyable especially because Bartaco's chips are large and round so you decide how big of a piece you want. They were definitely on the saltier side this time but I just brushed them off before eating. By the end of the meal, our bill came out to about $90 total, which was not that high of a price tag for 5 cocktails, 4 tacos, and chips and salsa in a downtown restaurant. Ok, if you want a quiet dinner, wrong place. However, if you want an upbeat place and and some good tacos, this is the place. The Guac is good. I had the Baja fish taco, the pork belly taco and the Duck Taco. I enjoyed the duck, I liked pork belly, but the Baja fish taco was kinda overcooked and bland. (I Added some green chile sauce, Viola, much better) The service was excellent. This is definitely a margarita place, the beer selection was ok. I was pleasantly surprised by a hazy IPA my server suggested, (Session IPA). It was great! Adding it to my favorites list. I will come back k and sample some more of their creative menu. The ordering app was a bit finicky for a couple of us and wouldn't let me load the tip option so it ended up automatically tipping a certain amount which was kind of annoying. We had an amazing early dinner here. Everything was great. I got the vegetarian tacos - mushroom and cauliflower. My carnivorous counterpart got the chicken, ribeye, and fish taco. We also got elote, the kids meal, and a side of rice and beans. For drinks we got a classic margarita and the green margarita. I am going to be raving about the margarita for a while. It was so good. The fresh lime juice and the proportions of everything were absolutely perfect. The veggie tacos were amazing. I will also rave about those. The ribeye and chicken tacos were very flavorful. We got the kids fish taco. It was simple. Our kid ate the fish and not the breading. He love the rice and beans. The kids plate is a good deal. They are very kid friendly. The booths are always great for pinning in toddlers. And the little stools in the bathroom are also a nice touch. The atmosphere is modern and bohemian. The service was excellent. I've been to this bartaco three times now, I absolutely LOVE IT! It's a nice taco place with a bar. The tacos are amazing! Super flavorful, especially the pork belly taco. I could eat that every day of my life. The staff are super nice and attentive. The two managers that I've seen are also super friendly. The only down sides are that the alcoholic drinks weren't to my taste (I like sweet drinks) and they don't have a lot of sweet options. But that's just my preference and I'm sure you can ask them to make something to your liking (I didn't). My partner really liked his drink. And the portion sizes for their tacos are pretty small. But they aren't expensive, so you can get like four and be good. First of all, the tacos were amazing. They have such a wide variety. Our group had the following tacos, and all of them were outstanding. Shrimp, pork belly, roasted duck, and Baja fish tacos. We also had the plantains which were very delicious and the gelato had a beautiful texture and taste. Above all was the service. We felt welcome, people were so kind, especially the manager and our server Wyatt. We love the ambience and vibe of the restaurant. Great for date night, friends, or even family dinner with teens. Even though we were there until closing time other 11 PM. They were friendly and did not rush us at all. My boyfriend recommended trying this place. It's a chain and they have a new location in DC. We came here on a holiday and it was pretty crowded. We were able to get a seat at the bar. The drinks are freshly squeezed which elaborates the drinks. 5/5 for drinks. The food was well seasoned and yummy. Taking over the old Busboys and Poets space in Mount Vernon Square, here are my thoughts: 1) Food: The menu offer diversity of tacos from chorizo to shrimp to duck. The tacos come with an option of corn tortilla (though it had the texture of flour) or bib lettuce. I ordered two shrimp tacos and one chorizo taco. Both were tasty with good spice levels, but the shrimp were the winners. However, portions are small so order a side like the corn. My friend ordered the fish and really enjoyed them! 2) Price: For a four pack of tacos, it's around $11, which isn't bad in an expensive place like D.C. Single tacos are around $3 per taco. 3) Space: It's massive! There's an outdoor patio and a large dining room and bar inside. Love Bartaco. First visit to this location but service and food is just as I remember from the Atlanta location that I visited a few years ago. Perfect for dinner with friends or date night. This same experience at other places is horrible because other places cut their staff.
