    Solis Molcajete

Came in on a Saturday night for dinner with family and was surprised to see that they weren't packed... Reason I say that is the food was AMAZING! Seriously, some of the best Mexican eats I've had in a very long time! They food they make and serve here isn't the typical Mexican stuff you get from many locals, neighborhood joints that cater to the typical American... the food here would 100% be appealing to everyone, including the bland, typical American... but it's also unique in style, preparation, and flavor! Their ceviche was incredibly fresh and tasty. The basic chips and salsa they provide when being seated consists of a nice, smokey red salsa as well as a spicy verde which was loaded with heat and flavor. Their queso fundido was incredible and came out bubbling and piping hot! The best thing was their Solis Molcajate was OUTSTANDING! It's a protein buffet served in a mortar (Molcajete) along with some other garnishes, cactus and onions and cheese and it's truly incredible! It comes with sides and their most amazing homemade corn tortillas too. A few of us shared this and it was definitely enough for 3 - 4 people! Overall, we tried many items on the menu and all were great! Highly recommend stopping in for great Mexican eats! And like I said at the beginning, not sure why they weren't packed on a Saturday night for having such great eats!

    Beef Lengua Burrito

I ordered the beef lengua burrito for delivery and received it on-time and still warm. I liked that cost was very reasonable, the portion size was good, they left the sour cream on the side, and the burrito had good heat. Additionally, I appreciated that the burrito came with chips, salsas on the side, and a good amount of well-cooked lengua. However, the burrito was way too salty, overwhelming most of the other flavors, Additionally, the Mexican rice and beans needed to be seasoned better, and the tortillas were too doughy. Mezcalero is better than a place like Chipotle and more reasonably priced; however, it has a ways to go before being on par with a California burrito place.

I previously went to the Mezcalero on Rt 1 and wasnt terribly impressed. In a random comversation someone was saying to try the place, I gave my expdrience, and he recommended the DC location. Not one to discard a good recommendation, I put it on my list and finally went. Parking at this location isn't great. But if you can find a spot its worth checking out. I decided to break from my typical Al pastor and birria tacos to try something different and got the chicken mole. The mole was far better than I expected it to be. Part smoky, part sweet, all good. The onions add a little extra activity, then add in the rice and beans and it was an all around great meal.

I was recommended by a colleague to try Mezcalero and I definitely enjoyed my visit. I visited on a Friday night, no reservation, and I was seated quickly. It had a decent number of people but wasn't super packed. The place is right on 14th street, it's pretty small but lively. The server was very kind and attentive. I loved the salsa verse that came with the complimentary chips and salsa. I got the tacos de mole which came with yellow rice and black beans, my partner got the enchiladas de mole which came with yellow rice and refried pinto beans. I loved my meal and my plate was definitely clean when I was finished with it! I love that the tacos come on corn tortillas with cilantro and onion because that is closest to authentic tacos. My partner enjoyed their meal as well! I got the horchata which I really liked, my partner who is Mexican didn't like it as much. The agua de jamaica was good but a bit more on the sour side not sweet. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and definitely want to come back to try some other dishes and cocktails!

I'd rate them closer to 3.5, but I just moved to the neighborhood and walked by here the other night. I wanted to check them out, so I came back last night for dinner. It's seat yourself seating, so I sat outside which was a nice view for people watching. They have a pretty solid menu with an array of options although, to me, their entrees seemed to be on the pricey side. I ordered the Maracuya, a passion fruit cocktail with rum in it and that was pretty good. They had complimentary tortilla chips with guacamole and red salsa. I liked the chips. Those were pretty good. For my main course, I did three different tacos--carnitas, carne asada, and the fish taco. I feel the tacos are authentic--they were very simple without all the extra stuff. It was the protein, some onions and cilantro. They had red radishes and cucumbers as garnishes on the side. This is how the tacos were in Mexico when I visited years ago. They were very good. Where they could improve is with service. The servers were nice enough, but it took way too long to get my check. The man who was serving me either left or went on break after I asked for my check so I had to ask someone else. That was a little annoying, but other than that, it was pretty good food. I'd probably come back.

I love this place! I have been here at least 5 times. The restaurant is in union market so the ambiance is nice and busy if you like to people watch. The food and drinks are good. I have had their flautas, tacos but my favorite is the seafood molcajete! It looks spicy but it's not. It's delicious. There is free parking in the garage for 3 hours. It's located behind the restaurant.

the enchiladas were pretty standard and good. wish my food had come out warmer, but overall service was kind and the horchata came in a huge cup. the restaurant was pretty empty in the middle of the afternoon so there were a lot of open seats.

This place has a good size menu and with pictures! Which I feel like all restaurants should have bc it sure does help. The staff was super nice and the place is a decent size with indoor and outdoor dining. The neighborhood is a tad bit sketchy though, but I guess thats a give and take. Overall the food was good! Here's what we ordered: 1) strawberry & mango Agua Frescas & Horchata- the size of these drinks are large! Also super refreshing and not too sweet. 2) Guacamole & chip- they know that they are doing with the flavors. It was bomb!!!! 3) Queso Fundido- it comes with what taste like homemade tortilla and all I can say is, "where has this been all my life!?" This combo was amazing! And If you are lactose intolerant, plz be careful lol 4) tacos: Al pastor, pulpo, Baja California fish, Pescado, Camarones- my fav was the Al pastor out of the bunch. But all others were good too. I can do without the chipotle sauce though as it can be a bit overpowering. Overall, it was delish and I'll def go back!

If I lived a little closer, I could see myself dropping by much more frequently. T he only downside that felt apparent to everyone I came here with, was the strong smell of fried fish. I personally wasn't too phased, assuming it as part of their menu. But the longer we settled in we realized it was coming in from an adjacent business which is incredible hard to control. With that being said, we smelled like fried fish when we got into my friends car and the smell followed us everywhere for the rest of the night. Dinner at San Matteo, yes please and thank you!…read more Good food and service was memorable adding San Matteo to the list of favorites. The front patio is cute and a nice spot to sit on a nice day. We entered the restaurant, pasted the bar and made our way to the back. We were pleasantly surprised with a nice outdoor feeling to dine at. We were immediately greeted by our waiter, given water and warm bread with olive oil. To kick off our meal everyone had different ideas of what they were craving so we went with three starters. PROSCIUTTO E MOZZARELLA for one. It that had the usual meat and cheese board with nuts, mini bread crackers and jam. I liked how pistachio pieces were found in the meats and cheese. [5/5] BEEF CARPACCIO which is a family favorite of ours was a must try. The tender slices of beef with arugula, with sliced capers and celery. It reminded us of our trips to Italy. [5/5] FRITTO MISTO came next. This mixed lite battered bowl of seafood goodness with a little spice delight. It had calamari, fish, shrimp, garlic, zucchini and chilies. I really liked how the batter was lite which says a lot because I love really crispy anything. [ 5/5] On to the main courses, we proceeded with different pasta noodle dishes. BUCATINI BOLOGNESE one of my favorite pasta noodles was my selection. The noodles were al dente and the sauce and meat were excellent. [5/5] PAPPARDELLE CINGHIALE was my husband's pick. The pappardelle noodles were al dente and nicely accompanied the meat with the tasty sauce. Topped with ricotta; the dish was full of flavor. [5/5] CHICKEN ALFREDO was the last pick. Not an authentic Italian dish; however, hats off to the chef for making this for our picky eater in the family. The sauce was creamy and delicious. Noodles were cooked perfectly. [5/5] Surprisingly we had just enough room for a sweet ending - an Affogato. Whoaza! The espresso was yummy; put some hair on our picky eater's chest. It had a hint of licorice flavor that was unique. Let's not forget the San Matteo Spritz. Smoky and highly enjoyable. I loved it and will order again when I return. Overall, San Matteo hit all the check boxes for our lovely family dinner. The staff were attentive and never left us wanting more water, food or waiting long. The food was tasty. It seems upscale with a casual feel. Some people were dressed for date night while others were having a casual meal with family or friends. The seating options of areas were all unique in its own way. Front patio for a nice day, from the front indoor dining area for maybe a more intimate feel, bar and table top area for a drink and appetizer going solo or with a friend; and lastly the back dining area for a a bigger group to enjoy your meal. Mixing up the dining options that suits you. I'll be back to try other dishes.

Yelp helps me to discover this place, and even though there was no happy hour at the time, it was a nice stop. The menu is primarily mexican, but I see some Salvadorian on there too (mainly pupusas). I didn't see an option for single tacos, so I opted for just one loroco pupusa. The event I was going to was food, so I wanted to keep it light. I wanted to try a drink too, and just opted for a regular margarita. When I was given the option of either a regular or a large, I had to go with the latter. The margarita came in one of those delightful chalices, and I got a tajin rim. The pupusa was delicious, but this was one of the few times I had to eat it with a knife and fork because it was so hot, and a sauce made it kind of messy. It was great otherwise! It was the perfect amount of food for me at the time. While I was there, a few parties came through and mainly sat outside. I was the only one inside, and the staff were lovely. I don't find myself up there very often, but I would return. Some of the items are pricey -- $4 pupusas are a perfect example.
