Made a reservation for a Saturday night and we got seated immediately. They sat us right next to the curve of the staircase so A LOT of people including wait staff kept bumping into the chair so we both ended up sitting on the other side next to each other rather than face to face. Even after this I noticed many of the wait staff would grab or bump into the chair while going down the stairs. I don't think there should be a table there. It was extremely loud, crowded, and cramped. We ordered enchiladas and quesadillas which was delicious and very filling and good for the price. We had enough to bring home as leftovers as well!

The perfect neighborhood Mexican spot! It's a massive restaurant so a great spot to go with a group of friends but they also have a lovely patio and rooftop! They do margarita pitchers, frozen margs, and have a lot of flavor selections (the strawberry is the best!). Their Guacamole is awesome and their Mexican red rice is amazing! The best, most authentic I've been able to find in DC. They have a big menu so there's lots to choose from. The portion sizes are also huge so really good prices! The Fajitas are awesome and come with lots of side. The Shrimp Diablo Platter is my fav by far! Really any of the food is a solid choice. Our waitress was lovely and our food/drinks all came out so fast. Truly a staple spot and really fun place to be on a nice day!

Came in recently on a Saturday with a friend. Had read the reviews before and was a little wary, but I was pleasantly surprised. We actually came in at a great time without realizing it, it was a happy hour, even on the weekend, that started at 9pm I think. Drinks were half off so that was amazing. We each got two margaritas which were great sizes. My only complaint here is that I wish they had more flavors for the on the rocks margaritas. They only have flavors for the frozen margaritas. I ordered the tacos Al carbon which comes with two tacos, but they are big tacos and are white hearty. I got the beef and it was very flavorful. The salsa was mild and didn't seem so authentic, but it was still good. We sat outside and typically I'm nervous about service quality outside, but here, the servers went above and beyond. It was a little chilly the night we went and even then, the staff was super attentive. I think this is a good fun place to go to locally and would be open to trying other menu items on my next visit!

It's about $45 per person. Is it worth that. Maybe? The food was hot, the steak pieces were cut too thick so you had to tear it with your teeth. The drinks were not strong. It was clean and bright. The rice and beans were not fabulous. The staff was great.

It was really amazing. My parents love coming here and I am just visiting so they bring me here since it's just the place to get yummy food. It didn't disappoint at all! Thankful for Mikaela!

Fantastic food and service. Table for one outside on a busy Friday evening? No problem. Chips, salsa and water almost as soon as I sat down. Friendly and attentive server. I sat outside but look forward to coming back for the rooftop. The best part was the ceviche tropical - served with talapia, mango, avocado, sweet potato and peppers. It was so good I'll probably have it as an entree next time. The portions were also very generous and the prices were fair.

Everything at Lauriol Plaza was absolutely phenomenal. I had been here once back in 2015 or 2016 and completely forgot about it,honestly, I don't know how. Either I wasn't old enough to fully appreciate it back then, or it has somehow gotten even better, because this time I was completely blown away. This is hands down some of the best Mexican food I've had in DC. You can find good spots in places like Hyattsville with the same quality and authenticity, but the service, portion sizes, freshness, and overall experience here really stood out. We came during late-night happy hour and ordered a pitcher of margaritas to split between three people, perfect choice. I got the enchiladas with a side of chorizo, one friend ordered the fajitas with chorizo, and the other got the burrito, which was MASSIVE. Truly huge--we were not expecting that at all. We started with plátanos as an appetizer, which were delicious, and the chips and salsa tasted incredibly fresh you could tell the salsa was made in-house. The margaritas were margariting, the rice was fluffy, the beans were flavorful, and the chorizo was cooked perfectly crisp. For dessert, we shared the tres leches cake, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Everything, from the food to the drinks to the service, was on point. I would absolutely come back without hesitation. A great spot that deserves way more appreciation.

I went to Lauriol Plaza on a Wednesday evening. Ever since some changes in the area, I've noticed the restaurant has gone downhill. I ordered a chicken fajita, and unlike usual, it came cold with no sizzle from the skillet. Normally, even if it's crowded or not, food comes out hot and fresh. I also noticed a lot of orders were messed up that night. Another table even received beef when someone was allergic to it. but it was all the tables with the skin tone as me. (if you know, you know) The ones that had different skin tone, food came out with no problem . I've spent a lot of money here over the years, but this experience was disappointing. I will not be going back anytime soon. I hope the restaurant can get back to the quality and service it used to have.

I went to this restaurant for a celebration and my expectations wasn't met. The service was good but I was expecting better, compared to my first visit here which was a few years ago. Let's start with we picked indoor seating because it was kinda cold outside, will definitely visit again in the summer and pick outside seating, my experience a few years ago outside was excellent. I chose the filet mignon ask for it to be cooked medium well with shrimp. The food was good but my steak was pink and the bacon wrapped around it was not done at all.I actually had to take the filet home, and put it back in the oven to my liking. I enjoyed the drinks I ordered Cadillac Margarita. The inside is dark and a few of us did not like how dark it was . The atmosphere is nice, I will return in the summer and sit outside for a different vibe. Overall I give it a 3, staff could have been more attentive and aware that when we initially made reservations, we stated upfront, this was a celebration.

Skinny margarita and tacos were top tier! Very basic looking, but packed with flavor. Upon receiving the taco platter, I was concerned it may not be enough, but the meal was very filling. Went on a Friday evening and there was no wait. I've heard that there is usually a line, but the outdoor area was filled when we left. My only suggestion would be to have mosquito control for the outdoor area (citronella candles/torches). Other than the mosquitos this was a great place! I'll be back to try more of the menu.

I hadn't been here in years since this most recent visit but the nostalgia was overwhelming and I finally made it back with a crew of friends who also hadn't been to this place in years. The interior ambiance is still exactly the same which doesn't feel particularly dated but it also doesn't give that current DC vibe (whether that's a good or bad thing, I'll leave that to others to assess). The food is still good and the service is kind of classic and that is also good thing. I'll support them as long as they exist. I'm glad they're still around.

I feel like you really can't go wrong with Lauriol Plaza. We came like 45 minutes before they close, and we still got great food and great service on a Sunday night. It was my second time here, and honestly, I haven't been disappointed either time. I feel like the service is usually pretty quick, and the food is good. I randomly tried the stuffed salmon this time around and it was super good. We also got the guacamole and ceviche, both which were very good. The ambience inside is a hodgepodge. You see some people super dressed up and you see other people in sweatpants. It is what it is. What I appreciate most is that they have Miami Vice's, so it reminded me of Vacation. I can't wait to come back.

Food is delicious! We had Mussels as appetizer. Beef Fajitas, Lamb Fajitas and Carne Asada. Everything is delicious! Service was an issue because their credit card system wasn't working. So we're here waiting for them to figure it out...

When we moved to D.C. in 1989 Lauriol Plaza was a favorite neighborhood restaurant. After 32 years there is still just this location. So, my guess is no!

Again I must preface by saying I didn't dine here or experience the place. I was invited to a dinner here that I couldn't attend, and as a birthday surprise I wanted to send that table a bottle of champagne. I intended to order a Dom Perignon (for which they charge ~$400 per bottle). But the staff was on amateur hour -- instead of taking my order, they altered the reservation, then alerted the birthday person who made the reservation (ruining any potential for a nice surprise gift), and said they would have to cancel the original reservation because the number of people changed. Birthday person had to call them and me to smooth it all over. Then, another person called me to get my email address to send me a PDF to fill out (which I had to then send them on WhatsApp) for my order - a comically silly added bureaucratic/administrative load. Just take the credit card over the phone on the first call/request, like 99% of businesses around the world. This place takes 3-4 steps just to order something... This person had absolutely zero idea that I made the request as a surprise, so it suggests there is pretty poor coordination and communication amongst staff. I'm sure people come here regularly and have great meals and great times. But at their prices, wine/champagne mark-ups, and promise of an 'elevated' experience -- staff need to get their act together.

El Cielo is located in the vibrant Union Market neighborhood, surrounded by restaurants, coffee shops and clothing stores. The restaurant itself is elegant without being opulent, with comfortable chairs spaced generously apart. A large garage door next to the entrance looks like it opens to the outside in warmer weather -- a nice touch we didn't get to experience. El Cielo holds the distinction of being the first Colombian restaurant in the world to earn a Michelin star. That alone makes it worth a visit for anyone who follows the culinary world. Our server Carla was excellent. She took her time explaining each dish carefully and patiently answered every question. The meal is a journey in every sense -- nine courses, each a small surprise. We began with cocktails. The Don't Give Papaya was fruit forward and satisfyingly alcohol forward. The passion fruit toddy that opened the tasting menu was not too sweet, with fresh fruit juice added to the spirit already in the glass. The truffle buñuelo was the first revelation -- a warm liquid center encased in a delicate corn vessel, eaten in one bite. The texture alone was remarkable. The caviarmañola followed, a delicate crispy croquette, beautifully presented with caviar and sauces. The Tree of Life, a pull-apart bread baked around mild melted cheese, was warm, satisfying and genuinely fun to eat. The tuna was exceptionally fresh and fatty, its sauce a perfect complement. The hiramasa, a kingfish new to me, was served with quinoa that added texture and visual beauty. The Hanami dessert closed the meal with just the right touch of sweetness. The birthday experience -- an edible white chocolate candle with a surprise filling -- was a delightful gesture. And the rose petal hand cream that ended the meal was an elegant final touch. Two caveats worth mentioning. The ambience leans pretentious -- El Cielo takes itself too seriously. And at $600 for two with service included, the price is steep even for a Michelin one-star. I've had equally memorable meals elsewhere for considerably less.

I walked a little back and forth, but.. no. Across the street, I saw another Mexican restaurant on the corner, but it looked closed, or even shut down. Maps told me it should be there. Looking across the street my eyes were drawn to the second floor, and a series of neon lights for a tarot card reader and psychic. Taking this as a sign, I crossed. That's when I found Benito's and realized that it's neon sign was out. Walk too fast and you might miss it. A narrow door aside a bay window lit from inside. It's a small place with a warm, cozy feeling. Benito's is very much a neighborhood Central American restaurant, but FYI: no alcohol. Started with guac and chips, usual fare, delicious but nothing that singled it out. I ordered the Pollo a la Plancha and it was rather good. The chicken was grilled through but not tough, it still had moisture and you could cut it. Rice, greens, etc. and the small 2oz solo of black beans, all standard fare. The corn tortillas were interesting, not your usual thin tortillas, so it took my mind a moment to consider what I was holding. It had the thickness of a pancake, maybe a sope base, and reminded me of thick, handmade tortillas when you don't have the press. Curiously, the tortillas were not the same that my friend got with his Mole Poblano, which were thin. Granted, it was a cold Tuesday evening, but in two hours only two other individuals came in to eat. Seems like they do brisk take away business. I expect on a warmer night with higher foot traffic this place fills up quickly. The service was great, did not want for anything. We were served with two containers of sauce, green and orange. Ostensibly green chili, and habanero, I did not learn specifically however. When I dine in DC I can't help but confront the blunt question: Was it worth it? Yeah, it's good food, good people, and a good place. You'll feel comfortable there and leave full. But the price of dining out is too damn high, and this meal is on the higher side of what, ten years ago, would have been $15. I fear that prices will continue to be pushed higher and places like Benito's might disappear, so get over there because the food excellent, the people are nice, and it's just a warm space to hang out for an hour or so talking to an old friend.

I've only ordered this to go using the Uber Eats app, which I wish allowed the option or better…read moredescription of the items, including the various sauces packed with the order, because although generous, the 2 types of sauces provided are too spicy for me! Of the dishes I've had: champurrado (yum, except not securely packaged for delivery); chips & salsa (the salsa did not agree with my tummy); sopes carnitas (pork chunks were more fat than meat); tacos fritos de pollo (super dry despite the salad that's lauered on top -- needs sauce!), and the baleadas, my favourite is the baleadas sencillas (good portion, nice flavour, perfect texture).
