Lauriol Plaza is just how I remembered it to be...the food was tasty. Was definitely excited about the valet parking lot which is literally connected to the restaurant. When it comes to hanging out in DC, the parking situation will make you reconsider your plans hahahaha! For me anyway... One of my girlfriends suggested this place & made reservations but I don't think you really need them here. We arrived on time and was greeted by the hostess and opted to sit outside since the upstairs was closed. The lime and mango combination swirl was delicious...we ordered a pitcher and it was plenty for us 3 gals. The seafood quesadillas was seasoned very well. Full of flavor...I enjoyed these with a garden salad minus the feta cheese and corn. My salad was fresh and the house dressing was perfectly distributed throughout my salad. My girl friends enjoyed their meals as well. One ordered the same as me minus the salad and added rice and beans and the other ordered the salmon with the stuffed crab...can't remember what it was called on the menu but it also was served with broccoli and she added a side of Spanish rice and beans. The maduros were also delicious! Sitting outside was cool but the birds flying all around was kind of annoying lol next time we'll just sit inside lol. I don't think you can go wrong coming here...tasty well seasoned Tex Mex cuisine... Our server needed to be reminded of a few things...maybe it was just an off day for him... I remember a few months ago, my makeup artist recommended I check out Lauriol Plaza and that they have really good food. When she first said the name, I actually thought it was a some short of shopping plaza and never would have associated it as a Mexican restaurant. I'm not sure it's history, but seems like a staple in the neighborhood as every time I drive by since that conversation with her, I notice how packed and busy it is. I recommended to my friends who were in town that we check it out and we were able to get seated outside relatively quickly for a Saturday evening. Our table started with their drinks. Half of us got the pina colada and the other half had the margarita swirl. I'd say the pina coloda was pretty good; not too strong and the ones who ordered the margarita seemed to enjoy it. We all had eaten before arriving, so we didn't order too much. They also served complimentary tortilla chips with salsa so that was pretty good and gave us something to nibble on. I ended up getting the shrimp tacos and their tortilla soup. The shrimp tacos were good, but the tortilla soup was the highlight for me. It was very flavorful, and full of vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, and corn. It also had shredded chicken and cheese in it, and was so delicious. I would definitely order it again. Our server was also very friendly and regularly checked in on us. The reason for one star off is just due to the cleanliness of the cups and plates on our table. They sat us right next to the curve of the staircase so A LOT of people including wait staff kept bumping into the chair so we both ended up sitting on the other side next to each other rather than face to face. Even after this I noticed many of the wait staff would grab or bump into the chair while going down the stairs. I don't think there should be a table there. It was extremely loud, crowded, and cramped. We ordered enchiladas and quesadillas which was delicious and very filling and good for the price. Lauriol Plaza has good solid Mexican food. I ordered chicken quesadillas and my husband ordered chicken nachos. The food had a good taste, but the plating of the food was nothing special. The restaurant has a lot of space for big parties and it offers upstairs, downstairs and outside. The perfect neighborhood Mexican spot! It's a massive restaurant so a great spot to go with a group of friends but they also have a lovely patio and rooftop! They do margarita pitchers, frozen margs, and have a lot of flavor selections (the strawberry is the best!). Their Guacamole is awesome and their Mexican red rice is amazing! The best, most authentic I've been able to find in DC. They have a big menu so there's lots to choose from. The portion sizes are also huge so really good prices! Came in recently on a Saturday with a friend. Had read the reviews before and was a little wary, but I was pleasantly surprised. We actually came in at a great time without realizing it, it was a happy hour, even on the weekend, that started at 9pm I think. Drinks were half off so that was amazing. We each got two margaritas which were great sizes. My only complaint here is that I wish they had more flavors for the on the rocks margaritas. They only have flavors for the frozen margaritas. I ordered the tacos Al carbon which comes with two tacos, but they are big tacos and are white hearty. I got the beef and it was very flavorful. The salsa was mild and didn't seem so authentic, but it was still good. We sat outside and typically I'm nervous about service quality outside, but here, the servers went above and beyond. It was a little chilly the night we went and even then, the staff was super attentive. Experienced the good, the bad and the ugly. The good was the waitress very attentive and responsive. Also my drink, made well and a good price. The bad was the special lunch dish. The crab meat was overly fishy and inedible. I could not eat it! Maybe it was a special because they needed to get rid of old crab! The rice was dry and lacked flavor. Everything at Lauriol Plaza was absolutely phenomenal. I had been here once back in 2015 or 2016 and completely forgot about it,honestly, I don't know how. Either I wasn't old enough to fully appreciate it back then, or it has somehow gotten even better, because this time I was completely blown away. This is hands down some of the best Mexican food I've had in DC. You can find good spots in places like Hyattsville with the same quality and authenticity, but the service, portion sizes, freshness, and overall experience here really stood out. We came during late-night happy hour and ordered a pitcher of margaritas to split between three people, perfect choice. I got the enchiladas with a side of chorizo, one friend ordered the fajitas with chorizo, and the other got the burrito, which was MASSIVE. Truly huge--we were not expecting that at all. We started with plátanos as an appetizer, which were delicious, and the chips and salsa tasted incredibly fresh you could tell the salsa was made in-house. The margaritas were margariting, the rice was fluffy, the beans were flavorful, and the chorizo was cooked perfectly crisp. For dessert, we shared the tres leches cake, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Everything, from the food to the drinks to the service, was on point. I went to Lauriol Plaza on a Wednesday evening. Ever since some changes in the area, I've noticed the restaurant has gone downhill. I ordered a chicken fajita, and unlike usual, it came cold with no sizzle from the skillet. Normally, even if it's crowded or not, food comes out hot and fresh. I also noticed a lot of orders were messed up that night. Another table even received beef when someone was allergic to it. but it was all the tables with the skin tone as me. (if you know, you know) The ones that had different skin tone, food came out with no problem . I've spent a lot of money here over the years, but this experience was disappointing. I will not be going back anytime soon. I hope the restaurant can get back to the quality and service it used to have. read more

I went to this restaurant for a celebration and my expectations wasn't met. The service was good but I was expecting better, compared to my first visit here which was a few years ago. Let's start with we picked indoor seating because it was kinda cold outside, will definitely visit again in the summer and pick outside seating, my experience a few years ago outside was excellent. I chose the filet mignon ask for it to be cooked medium well with shrimp. The food was good but my steak was pink and the bacon wrapped around it was not done at all.I actually had to take the filet home, and put it back in the oven to my liking. I enjoyed the drinks I ordered Cadillac Margarita. The inside is dark and a few of us did not like how dark it was . The atmosphere is nice, I will return in the summer and sit outside for a different vibe. Skinny margarita and tacos were top tier! Very basic looking, but packed with flavor. Upon receiving the taco platter, I was concerned it may not be enough, but the meal was very filling. Went on a Friday evening and there was no wait. I've heard that there is usually a line, but the outdoor area was filled when we left. My only suggestion would be to have mosquito control for the outdoor area (citronella candles/torches). Other than the mosquitos this was a great place! I hadn't been here in years since this most recent visit but the nostalgia was overwhelming and I finally made it back with a crew of friends who also hadn't been to this place in years. The interior ambiance is still exactly the same which doesn't feel particularly dated but it also doesn't give that current DC vibe (whether that's a good or bad thing, I'll leave that to others to assess). I feel like you really can't go wrong with Lauriol Plaza. We came like 45 minutes before they close, and we still got great food and great service on a Sunday night. It was my second time here, and honestly, I haven't been disappointed either time. I feel like the service is usually pretty quick, and the food is good. I randomly tried the stuffed salmon this time around and it was super good. We also got the guacamole and ceviche, both which were very good. The ambience inside is a hodgepodge. You see some people super dressed up and you see other people in sweatpants. It is what it is. What I appreciate most is that they have Miami Vice's, so it reminded me of Vacation. After an amazing tour of the art inside the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, we continued our date night at Lauriol Plaza. I love the architecture inside the restaurant. The dim lighting and large windows served as the perfect backdrop to our evening. Our waitress Abenet was great. She immediately came over with chips and salsa and took our drink order. I moldy say that the salsa is super spicy and was served warm which kind of threw me off. I love spicy foods but it was almost too spicy. We ordered the steak and chicken fajitas, the chicken and steak street tacos which came with a serving of beans and rice. We shared a half pitcher of red sangria. We enjoyed the fajitas and the chicken taco. The steak was flavorful but really chewy. The beans and rice were delicious as well. When I first arrived to this restaurant I was surprised that they have on-site parking. It is $5 per car but it does help with not having to fight for parking in Washington DC. When I entered the restaurant I was greeted immediately and sat fairly quick. My waiter was very attentive and did a great job with offering some recommendations. For starters they give you salsa and chips. He recommended trying the cheese which was very tasty. For my entree I had salmon stuffed with crab meat which was amazing. The sauce that they put over it was the star in my opinion. The salmon was cooked very well and was a good portion. I also tried their Margarita/ sangrita which I can tell is a popular drink. If you are into a fruity flavorful drink then this is the one for you. You can order it by the cup or by the pitcher. For dessert I had tres leches cake And it was to die for I'm glad to finally find a tres leches worth $10 a slice. Overall my experience was great. Ambiance: 4/5 From the outside to the inside, lots of seating, beautiful decor, excellent mood lighting, and multiple floors. However the proximity between neighboring tables is so close it feels like you're sharing it with strangers. The lower quality ingredients used in each item I ordered was noticeable and although I hate wasting food, I couldn't bring myself to finish the meal. Hard to believe Ive been coming here for at least 10 years and never wrote a single review. Lauriol is a steady eddie so you will rarely be disappointed. My favorites are the steak fajitas and the salmon - always good and hot. For some reason, no matter how many times ask for tortillas de maiz, they still bring out arena - its the strangest thing to me and a bit wasteful. Frozen margaritas are def top tier, and the salsa is good and chips always fresh. I cannot give five stars is because for some reason, with large parties, they have a lot of challenges with getting the drinks and food right the first time. A bit frustrating. All in all, a solid place so definitely drop by but expect a bit of a wait if you dont make reservations. read more

The food here is great. Very large portions, and of course complimentary chips and salsa. Multiple flavors of frozen margaritas as well as on the rocks, beers, and na drinks. There are vegetarian options but not a lot for vegans except salads. Service is excellent. No pressure to rush to order or clear your table. The location is fairly convenient to a number of downtown neighborhoods, but it's also not too hard to find street parking. Inside there are huge windows, and there's also outdoor dining space. Actually, I think this might become one of the go-to Tex Mex spots when I'm in DC. First, the service is exceptional, and our waitress was an absolute joy. For entrees some of my table mates got steak, chicken tacos, salmon fajitas, tostones, or the taco/enchilada/tamale combo. I got the tortilla soup which came in a big bowl! Delicious! The ingredients were odd. They had a third of a carrot and a huge chunk of zucchini in my soup. And the fajitas also had the same veg and even celery along with the peppers. Interesting touch. There was so many red onions that it took from the soup. Not quite an onion soup, but almost. I had asked for no onion but the waiter said it was already inside the soup. I still ordered it with the warning. Upon receiving the dish it didn't appear that the onions were in fact in the soup already. Definitely looked like they garnished the soup with cilantro and onion. I took most of the raw onion out and I ate my modified version so definitely edible. Wouldn't ever order this again though. Tacos - I pan fry my taco shells the old school way so when I saw my dish and saw Taco Bell shells it made my BIG heart ache. I was hoping for authentic Mexican food. I have passed this restaurant multiple times and never visited. I was amazed at how large the restaurant was and the service was extremely fast. The menu is quite large and the portions are pretty big unless you specifically order a small (which is really a normal amount of food) as listed with some entrees on the menu. I got the chicken quesadilla and it came with a side of guac, sour cream, veggies. It was fairly solid, but not mind-blowing. A friend I hadn't spent time with invited me here for dinner because she loves the restaurant. After eating and drinking, I certainly know why now. We were greeted warmly upon our arrival and seated by the window. Well lit and engaging atmosphere. Our waiter was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. My friend chose her favorite, the Seafood Enchiladas, and I chose the Combo Fajitas. When they brought the food out, I was first overwhelmed by the portions' size. Then, after taking the first bite, my senses went into overdrive with an explosion of different tastes and seasonings. As I dug into the bottom of one area, I saw fried plantains and potatoes in addition to all the vegetables and meats. Who does that? I'm sorry, guys, there was no way I could eat this in one sitting. So, I probably ate at least one-fourth of a portion and had to box the rest up and take it home. In my defense, I didn't realize how many chips and salsas I ate before the food came out because they were so damn good. Beware of them; in a good way... Before the waiter came with the boxes to inquire (like a great waiter does) whether we wanted to order dessert, we both had to give the side-eye and say, "No, unless they had a wheelbarrel to roll us out of this restaurant."
