A nice evening out ruined by shady characters and business practices. Beware of tourist trap activities! The Server added an automatic 30% tip and explained it was "management settings" on the point of sales machine. I'm sure it is often overlooked by unassuming victims. When approached and questioned the tip was added and then additionally taxed. The Server asked where are you from; as if that mattered when the customer is being ripped off. Horrible and untrustworthy tactics and individuals. NONALCOHOLIC DRINKS WERE CHARGED AS ALCOHILIC DRINKS. Utter crooks. Food - Well spiced and flavorful. Decent selection to include vegitarian options. Service- left much to be desired. Server was unenthusiastic to say the least. Every aspect of the experience lacked tremendously. Server was impatient and seemed bothered that he had to do any work besides being on his phone and watching the TV in the background; he mess up drinks, and when the food finally arrived he plated incorrectly and got an attitude when addressed in a calm manner. Ambience - slow. Not in a good way. Operations were at best lax and uncaring. Charged for a large party with only 3 people in attendance as a means to hike the overall bill. read more

Came to Los Caballeros for a quick bite after walking around DC. Walking in, the worker was very kind, and welcoming. He sat us down right away, and accommodated our big party. Also, the decor around the restaurant was very nice. They had a lot of neon signs and it was very mexican themed with a lot of sayings. The food itself was just okay. I ordered the flautas, but they just weren't the best to me. If you're looking for authentic mexican food, this is not the place, but if you don't really care for authentic mexican taste it's okay for a quick bite. I also ordered a michelada which was pretty tasty, a little spicy but tasty. Overall a nice restaurant with good staff and good decor. If you don't care too much for that authentic mexican taste it's okay, but if you want authentic mexican taste/food i'd definitely look elsewhere. I don't know if Los Caballeros qualifies as a hole-in-the-wall establishment, but it certainly exceeded my expectations. I will admit that I am not always a big fan of Mexican food. However, I had a rare craving and Los Cabelleros exceeded my expectations. I am from DC, so I am not an expert on Mexican, but everything here feels authentic. We enjoyed the chips and salsa, quesadilla, queso, steak flautas, and mango drink. I wanted to get the churros so bad, but we were too full. So, we'll get them the next time. The service was friendly and informal. I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe I like Mexican afterall and just hadn't experienced authenticity. A group of friends and I came here on a whim Saturday morning and this will absolutely become part of our restaurant rotation in D.C. Food was incredible. We got burritos, chimichangas, chicken tacos and all cleaned our plates. The steak burritos and chimichangas were the highlight because the meat was so so tender and flavorful. Solid Tex Mex spot on Cap Hill. They have daily specials/deals including all day happy hour on Wednesdays which is when we visited. We were able to get a table for 4 but just barely - the place was packed! Even with the crowd though, service was quick and friendly. The chips and salsa were good as was my chicken chimichanga which also came with rice, beans, lettuce, pico, guac, and sour cream. Chili rilleno was a complete disappointment. It was all batter and no chile or cheese to be found. They added an automatic 20% tip for a party of 4, we feel the tip should be based on the service received. Just like anywhere else, they start you off with chips and salsa. The chips were fine and the salsa had a good kick. The menu is really extensive with a long list of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, and more. I got the chimichanga and really liked it. It was a heaping portion that was really good. Let me say up front, I would highly recommend Los Caballeros! My wife and I spent Valentine's Day in DC and we really hadn't decided on a place to eat. My go to in a situation like that is Yelp. I looked for restaurants near us and, after some discussion, we chose Los Caballeros based on the previous reviews. Those reviews were spot on! Great food! My wife had the crispy tacos with a margarita. She loved it! I had the steak burrito & a coke (I'm driving!). The refried beans had some melted cheese on top (being originally from Wisconsin, that's a plus!) and the steak inside the burrito was well seasoned, which was a pleasant surprise as some places I've been cut that corner and the other places meat is bland. The restaurant is small but I did see a second seating area in the lower level that wasn't being used at the time. When we arrived, the main level was full of customers (a good sign) but it didn't feel crowded. The ambience was nice, the waiters were friendly and our food was brought to us very quickly! That may indicate the food we pre-prepared and then warmed up, but I'll say again both my wife and I loved the food! If it's being rewarmed, they're doing it right. If you're in that area of DC and looking for a place to eat, I would highly recommend Los Caballeros! read more

Poor experience. We are visiting and wanted good mexican food. This place had great reviews so we walked 2 miles to arrive at 8:25. Website and internet say they are open until 10. Neon sign outside says they are open until 10. They wanted to close early apparently so the waiter said they were about to close and that all the posted signs were "wrong". We said ok, we had a to go order for soup so should we order that with our food or at the end? He said he would put it in with the food. Fast forward 30 minutes and we have been sipping beer and chips/salsa and dude walks up with a to go bag with all our stuff. Nachos were actually cold so they had been sitting on those a while. I asked why he made the whole order to go. His response was that I had said everything was to go and what I said wasn't clear/confusing. Thats a load of crap, they kicked us and everyone out and within 60 seconds of us walking out the employees all left. Lazy, lying and cold food. Your experience may vary. Recently opened 11 December 2023 in the old La Lomita Dos location. Excellent Tex Mex food and drinks. Simple 2 page laminated food menu and the back page is drinks. Excellent food service and still has the coldest beer on the Hill; excellent margaritas. They have revamped the look and ambiance of the dining room and the downstairs is a lot brighter and cleaner.
