Tacos al Carbon with double rice
    Clarence B.

Came over with a group for dinner and they sat us almost immediately. The service and offerings were fine. Everyone commented posit on their meals. I had the tacos al carbon with double rice. It was a good and flavorful. Portion sizes are pretty good. Each taco had a good amount of seasoned meat. The guacamole and lettuce could have been a larger quantity. Good dinner good night.

My dad used to bring me here as a child so it's a little nostalgia for me. I said let me off the food is as good as I remember. The food was actually amazing I got the meal with steak chicken and ribs. All tender and flavorful . Service was quick it's not a big place. The only down side the Cadillac margarita I got was sub par. Other than that I recommend going just for the food.

It's a neighborhood restaurant, serving delicious hearty Tex-Mexican food., the restaurant has Mexican villa feeling, food is very good, full of flavor, staff are sweet and efficient. The plates are big, pretty shareable, great place for families. I highly recommend it

    Shrimp Fajitas

For a small restaurant, I was blown away by the taste of the food. I came with a group of 10 and immediately they were accommodating. I ordered the shrimp fajitas, and the non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri. I was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. The shrimp fajitas came out sizzling and they smoked infused sauce on my shrimp and the grilled veggies were heavenly. I would highly recommend more people check out this gem in DC

    Marinated Beef Tacos

Food was very tasty. Guacamole was made fresh and tasty. The marinated beef tacos were stellar. Regular margarita pitcher was good. Mango frozen margarita was phenomenal & strong. We were the only table in the restaurant so service was great. And we got free tequila shots!! Great local spot.

Food is authentic Mexican for sure. Atmosphere is great and authentic. Food is excellent. Service is great and fast. This was thickest quesadilla I have ever had, purely delicious.

    Seafood enchiladas

I ordered La Lomita via Uber Eats. The food arrived hot and was tasty. I was very happy that they were not stingy with the dressing the restaurant sent along with the salad. The seafood enchilada had a seafood mix where I wasn't sure what seafood was used but I'm sure it was seafood because I'm pescatarian and didn't get sick. The refried beans were salty but mixed with the rice I was able to stomach it. I will be ordering again and would recommend this restaurant!

I stuck to the late night happy hour menu and ordered the Frito pie. It was REALLY good. The portion was smaller than I expected, so I'd definitely order two next time. I nibbled on my wife's shrimp fajita and it was delicious. The drinks were very nice. I ordered the spicy margarita and it was delicious. The ambiance is warm and cozy. It's not a large space, but I did not feel cramped. There is an outdoor heated seating area as well.

However, the waitress was excellent with providing order recommendations and ensuring that we were taken care of. Drinks: I ordered the ranch water which wasn't anything spectacular. Just a simple non-sugary drink to enjoy while dining. I opted out of the fajitas but the rest of my party loved the steak and shrimp fajitas, which were part of the fajitas 2 deal. Plenty to share and I heard that the steak was cooked to perfection and the shrimp was seasoned well. I ordered the taco salad and that dish was PHENOMENAL! There is something to be said about a wet salad which manages to hold some crunchy texture to the taco strips. Also, it was perfectly chopped and all ingredients were mixed together so well. To complete the dish, I ordered a side of rice and chicken. Both were delicious but the chicken portion could use some work. Overall I'm curious to try their breakfast tacos so count me in on returning! They also offer a great happy hour so I recommend stopping by to enjoy their bar or even their cute outdoor seating.

The irony is that the name of the place is deceiving because they also have Salvadoran Mexican food. But if you're in DC eastern market area, I highly recommend trying the Tapsilog with some Gulaman and Sago drink. I was so full that I did not get a chance to try the halo halo. I will have to come back for my halo halo next time. I enjoyed talking to the owner of Tortilla Cafe and asked her to truly market this amazing restaurant. Their pupusas are always hot, fresh, and cooked to perfection. We love the cheese pupusas and the pork & cheese! 1/4 chicken with veggies and plantains: the skin on this chicken is so flavorful. I got light meat (trying to be healthier), but I'm sure the dark meat is even more so! And I absolutely love their fried plantains. Bonus insight: our first date was Tortilla Cafe in 2021 :)

Happy Hour Alert!…read more First, why did I take so long to check out this gem?! Well, I'm glad that I finally did because my Happy Hour experience was fantastic!!!!! No reservations made, we made the decision to visit at the spur of the moment and the hostess was very accommodating. Shoutout to our incredible waitress Maria! Thank you for your recommendations and hospitality. Happy Hour- the prices and the portions are beautifully matched in that they were affordable and generous in serving. Drinks: I ordered the passion fruit margarita which was AMAZING! The liquor to passion fruit juice ratio was spot on and the drink had a little smokiness to it, thanks to the dried fruit added on top. My next drink was the white sangria which was okay but I think that my experience with the margarita made it hard for me to enjoy this drink right after. It wasn't bad, just wasn't my favorite like the margarita was lol My last drink was the espresso martini (not on the HH menu). This drink was worth every penny and now added to my top 20. Food: Spicy creamy shrimp- a dish so delicious, we ordered another one. The crunch on the shrimp set the tone for the burst of flavor to follow. The shrimp was fresh and the flavors combined so well. Mejillones en curry, which came with a slice of blue corn bread, was absolutely delicious! The curry sauce was such a hit that we talked about it long after dinner ended. Using it as a dipping sauce for the blue corn bread was also a good touch. This dish was creamy and the mussels were delicious and fresh. Brussel sprouts- a fun play on roasted Brussels with a delectable peanut butter sauce added. This was another fav, pretty much all of the food was phenomenal but this dish left you wanting more. Lastly, we had the Tostada de Cangrejo which was perfectly topped with crabmeat. The crabmeat was sweet, I cannot explain but the sweet succulent taste was complimented by the creamy guacamole. To conclude an amazing time, we tried their Tres Leches cake and I would say that I didn't like the whipped cream topping but I loved the cake itself. Overall, I had an incredible time. The ambiance was simply beautiful, grown, and sexy. The food was impeccable! And the drinks were divine!
