Extremely disappointed with my experience. I placed a takeout order, but they rang it up as dine-in and added almost $50 in gratuity without my consent. A tip should always be the customer's choice, especially for takeout. I've been to all kinds of restaurants, and this is the first time something like this has ever happened to me. It's a decent local Mexican place, reasonable to average prices, plenty of seating, and diligent but not overbearing service. Our two dishes were out in about 5 minutes, so it can be a quick lunch. My dad used to bring me here as a child so it's a little nostalgia for me. I said let me off the food is as good as I remember. The food was actually amazing I got the meal with steak chicken and ribs. All tender and flavorful . Service was quick it's not a big place. For a small restaurant, I was blown away by the taste of the food. I came with a group of 10 and immediately they were accommodating. I ordered the shrimp fajitas, and the non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri. I was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. The shrimp fajitas came out sizzling and they smoked infused sauce on my shrimp and the grilled veggies were heavenly. I would highly recommend more people check out this gem in DC read more

I ordered La Lomita via Uber Eats. The food arrived hot and was tasty. I was very happy that they were not stingy with the dressing the restaurant sent along with the salad. The seafood enchilada had a seafood mix where I wasn't sure what seafood was used but I'm sure it was seafood because I'm pescatarian and didn't get sick. The neighborhood message boards kept recommending La Lomita, and I decided to stop in before a recent (pre-COVID) Yelp Elite event. I have to say that it was totally on-par with DC Mexican food! The interior is a chaotic delight, with Christmas lights and piñatas and more. I had the fajitas, which arrived quickly. They were served with flour tortillas that tasted like they came from a bag. The marg I had was strong, but good. I had to wait quite a while to get anyone's attention so that I could pay, but it did appear that they were understaffed and they seated me in a weird corner where perhaps early on it was hard to see. That said, they didn't really check on me or refill my water or really pay attention to me even before I tried to pay. I did just go right up to the cash register to pay eventually, and even then it just took a while. Which, again, is understandable when a restaurant is understaffed, just overall not a great impression-maker. read more

Nice patio. Good food. But check your bill. We had a nice meal with a large group outside. Food was classic Mexican. It's a nice spot to sit outside in the evening under their awning, and there is nearby grass for kids to play. However, the tax line of our bill was 20% of the subtotal. I asked about it, and they said "it's the tax." But I pointed out the percentage, and they said "oh it's gratuity too." Perhaps it's an intentional 10% fee, but they did not advertise it as such. read more

I used to eat here all the time until a few years ago after a snow storm. The chips did not taste right--maybe rodent urine. I projectile vomited in the bathroom. It was horrible. One, the quality of the food was OK. I'm sure eating inside the restaurant is cheaper than delivery. Many things I requested didn't happened and I had to pay extra for tortillas when they placed them on the beef tacos. The crispy shells were so soggy they fell apart and was uneaten. For what it is, La Lomita is fine: ok-ish Tex-Mex, not authentic by any means Mexican food. This place is around the corner from my apartment and I've been wanting to check it out because I love tacos and also divey locations. I got a gift certificate on Restaurant.com that would've given us $25 off if we spent at least $50. Pretty fair deal! I scoped out the menu online beforehand so I knew this wasn't going to be a super amazing experience or anything. So we go last night and the place is just as divey on the inside as it looks from the outside, but I in no way mean that as a negative thing lol. We were sat right away and I started to tell the guy about the gift certificate when he cut me off immediately and said they don't take them, that they stopped taking them over a year ago. I told him I just bought it a month ago and pulled it up on my phone and he said nope, they wouldn't honor it. I was like well wtf am I supposed to do with this and he's just like I dunno. He said he didn't know why they were still on the website to which I told him they probably had to communicate that with Restaurants.com to get pulled. So this whole thing was a little frustrating but whatever. Service was nothing amazing as there really wasn't even a set server. There were a few people floating throughout the room that would take orders, drop food off, etc. No interaction really from the service staff at all. But I mean, you don't go here for that. The chips and salsa were pretty good actually and the salsa had a nice kick to it! My friend and I ended up getting the same thing - margaritas and tacos al carbon. The margaritas were good, nothing amazing, but good. I was a little disappointed with the lack of taco options on the menu but I knew that going in here. I do love me some tacos. The whole plate altogether was what you'd expect at any Tex-Mex restaurant. We were surprised though because the menu said 2 tacos and we each got 3. Not sure if it was a misprint or mixup or if they changed the menu. In any case, 3 tacos with sides of rice and refried beans, as well as lettuce, sour cream, and guac. The tortillas were on the large side compared to the types of tacos I usually stuff my face with lol. The meat was actually seasoned very well and I enjoyed it! It was a lot of food and I only ate about half of it so yay for leftovers. It wouldn't be my first choice for tacos or Mexican food in general, but overall it was fine. And on that gift certificate, I was able to get my money back from Restaurant.com and I sent them an email as well making them aware that La Lomita will not honor the gift certificates... and it looks like they're no longer listed on the website. read more

Love this local restaurant! The food here is amazing and portions are definitely worth the price. We've tried the burrito, tamales, enchiladas and fajitas and all of those dishes are great. The meat is cooked to perfection and seasoned generously, so nothing is ever dry or bland and I love their vegetables options for the fajitas and burritos. Ask for a hotter salsa and they will really spice it up! The salsa still has a smoky, fresh taste but with a lingering kick that I love. I was not sure on how take fajitas would be, but this place has fantastic. They give a large portion of chicken and fajita vegetables that more then enough for 2 people. And everything tastes fresh and on point. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

They don't have Mexican street tacos or a solid al pastor, but that's not why you should come here. You should come because they have free unlimited chips and salsa, half-pitchers of margaritas for $18, and those sizzling fajitas. The high points are the fajitas and the tacos al carbon. Whatever marinade or MSG-laden spice they cook their fajitas/steak in is absolutely delicious and I wish I could make it at home. I warn you, the fajitas are monstrously large. For $20-25 you could probably make a solid case that the fajitas feed two, especially if you throw in a flan or tres leches or perhaps some chorizo/queso/guacamole type appetizer. Or more margaritas. Oh, and their margaritas come in adorable "cactus" glasses. read more

Coronavirus review! We were craving some Mexican grill kind of food. Our usual place was unavailable on Uber eats so we looked for other options and found this place! We had the chicken and steak fajitas, cheese and bean nachos, chicken tacos, a cheese quesadilla and chips and salsa. Everything was SO good! The portions were large and well packed - everything was hot but still crispy and not soggy! The salsa was awesome - very fresh tasting and spicy! Guac was excellent and great chips too! Will definitely be ordering this for delivery more! Wish they would have some margaritas for delivery as well read more

Despite the look on the outside, inside is clean and well decorated. Service is spot on. Staff is fun and attentive. I read other reviews and saw mention of the AMAZING fajitas. I tried them, but I really only think the food is okay. It's good. My mom enjoyed the enchiladas but we both feel we've had better. The patrons next to us said that the quesadillas were really good, but then again I feel like quesadillas are hard to mess up. Overall it's nice. The service is great and the food is tasty. Oh, last thing--maybe the tacos al carbon are the true hit here? Maybe next time I'll have to give em a try and update the review! read more

The margaritas were watered down, the salsa was blah, the refried beans were sweet (blech), the rice had frozen peas in it (!), the enchiladas were soggy, and the tacos were bland and boring.
