This is one of my fav places on the east coast! I frequented a lot when I'm in ATL, so glad to see they have one at the Wharf. It's the perfect spot for a casual meet up, business meeting or just for drinks. If you like tacos but South American style, then this is a great option. We went to a show across the street and stopped by here for a late night dinner. Around 10p or so there was plenty of seating yet still very lively! You get a great view of the wharf and people activity. We sat at a booth and placed our order right away using the que cards. You write your order on a slip, then put it in the holder to signal you're ready. We started with the trio (guac + rosa + verde + chips) which was really good. I assumed the menus would vary slightly because I had my mouth set on a duck bowl! No bowl but they did have duck birria which I wasn't in the mood for so I opted for the Ahi Tuna + crispy rice bowl which was perfect! 5/5! The tuna was delicious and seasoned perfectly, the rice had just the right amount of crisp to it and the cucumber mix was refreshing. My date ordered both variations of the chicken tacos (1 Tinga + 1 verde) and a Baja fish taco and loved everything. 5 stars across the board! Went to bartaco for a date night. Service was okay, our server was very nice and helpful with suggestions but maybe due to staffing wasn't stopping by often. Took a while for her to show up to take order and after that we only saw here one time after the food came. I waited a while to put my drink order in. In hindsight there's a QR code on the table we saw later we could've used to order. Ambiance was pretty and relaxing. Food was really good, 5 is average for me so 7s are pretty good vs 7 being average. Would definitely come back! If you'd like to have your meal and drink with a view, this is the place to visit! The wait time can be tedious and that's because the area is very popular. The area, as mentioned earlier is incredible and the restaurant has a fun seaside design to complement the surrounding area. Service was good, nothing out of this world. However, some of the staff, including our waitress, could use a little more time in hospitality training because we had to ask for too many restaurant essentials. Food: while I do think that the tacos are painfully small. They are delicious! My favorites are the pork belly and fish tacos (both shown in my pictures). I used to visit a bartaco location in Nashville on occasion when I lived there, but a friend and I stopped at this DC Wharf location when we found ourselves hungry and thirsty with about a half hour to kill before a matinee show at Arena Stage (which is just a couple of minutes away on foot). We walked in, grabbed some seats at the bar (their bar is huge), and grabbed the menus they keep at the bars/tables. We ordered some corn dip, ceviche, and a couple of drinks. The ceviche was good. The corn dip was a surprise (I was expecting something more like esquites, but it was a pureed corn dip) but was still tasty. Our drinks were great. I loved my Paloma Fresca (libélula joven tequila + grapefruit + lime + peychaud's bitters + grapefruit bitters + sparkling water), which was delicious and refreshing on a warm day. They make their drinks from scratch for real - we watched our bartender juice the grapefruit for my paloma! The views from bartaco are great - you can look out the Wharf, the water, the boats, the people walking by. And the service was very friendly and fast. As I was just browsing the city I went to the wharf with the intention of the "Fish and Chips" spot but the Happy hour sign caught my attention. As i sat at the bar I was shortly greeted by Madison she was super sweet but seem very confused and maybe like her first week or something. Located at the Wharf and let me tell you we had a time! The bar was moving a little slow and the bartender kind of disappeared on us which had my friends at the other end of the bar giving some serious side eye. BUT. Terri or Terry swooped in like a superhero and saved the whole day. She wasn't even supposed to be behind the bar and still showed up and showed out. I love that you can order individual tacos so that way you can try the different types without having to order a whole bunch. I tried the chicken and the duck and they are both really good. So good I ordered a 3 duck taco. They have a different style when it comes to the chips and salsa you have to break a big tortilla. The salsa is free refills but you have to pay for more chips. I have been coming here for years. They have a huge bar when you enter and there usually isn't a wait when you enter. I usually get the duck Birria quesadilla, guacamole, tuna poke, tuna tartare and their passion fruit margarita. For the tacos I usually get the pork belly, carne asada and sesame ribeye. Some of the tacos have Asian fusion influence and they do offer some vegetarian options. The food is always fresh and I am a big fan of their seasonal menu. They do offer a happy hour menu throughout the week. The tacos are average in size and I usually recommend ordering 3-5 per person to get full. When the weather gets warmer they do offer outdoor seating. The light here is dim and the noise level is low. They have great seating options for large parties. Came back to bartaco for DC Cocktail Week, and this visit confirmed everything I loved the first time and then some. Brooke behind the bar was an absolute standout. We went on a Saturday evening without a reservation and had about 40 minute wait. The Wharf is so pretty to walk around, so the wait didn't feel that long. We sat in the outdoor space, which we were really happy about since the music is quite loud and it's usually difficult to hear each other inside. Started with a large guacamole and then ordered 2-3 tacos each. After receiving our food, we were a little disappointed that the menu didn't describe the items very well. For example - Cauliflower Taco - Mediterranean inspired with hummus, smoky paprika, and pomegranate. It was okay, but we were thrown off with the flavors since the menu is pretty poor at describing their tacos. The ribeye one was Asian inspired and topped with kimchi. Most traditional (and we thought delicious) were the carne asada and verde chicken. We jumped from Asian to Mediterranean to more traditional Mexican flavors in a couple bites. Just weren't expecting it. Also note the street corn is on the cob. So be aware if you're not a fan. We ended up ordering likely close to 45 tacos as a table and being able to have so many options was a treat. The pork belly and the duck were my favorite but everyone had their own as we enjoyed the street sized tacos. Bartaco is located on the wharf. We stopped in cause we were bar hopping and just checking out different places. We sat at the bar and were instantly greeted by one of the bartenders that explained how it all works. You fill out a sheet with what you want place the dragonfly card on the holder and they will come over to you. We ordered street tacos (fish, chicken, steak). They are small but really good. From left to right, I ordered the chili lime shrimp, the Baja fish, the crispy shrimp and belly pork taco. This order came out to about $28. To do it with that information, as you wish, out of all the food tacos I ordered, I will save the crispy. Shrimp was my favorite. The slaw shrimp combo was done perfectly in this taco. I was a bit disappointed with the chili lime shrimp. It wasn't as spicy as I would like it to be. The yellow hot sauce tasted like Scotch bonnet to me, which I enjoyed, and I enjoyed the Reds hot sauce that they have on the table. I ordered the berry colada. It was so good, but I am disappointed with how much I was in my drink. I know that the drink was probably 3/4 of the cup, and the rest was ice. 2nd time at Bartaco. First time was in Nashville. The tacos were a decent size, kind of on the pricy side, but were flavorful and yummy. We got different choices and tried 5 of them, then ordered some churros, key lime and tres leches for dessert. My fave was the key lime and the tres leches was pretty good. They weren't too sweet. Really cute place for a girlies night out! We came and loved the decor and how we could see the water and when they opened the garage style window made our night. We sat down and our waiter Tyrique was super friendly kept checking in on us and we always had our drink and foods. Now while he checked in the style is a QR code so you scan and keep a tab open. The tacos we got were crispy duck, crispy shrimp and fish and also the chips and salsas. The drinks were tasty could have kept drinking all night. But the taco that stuck out to me was the duck. The spice was what made it unique and I wish I could eat a dozen. The chips and salsa spicier and mild def get for the table and if you need more chips they will happily give you more.
