Mulan Dumpling is a dumpling food truck that uses organic and fresh ingredients, offering 4 different types of dumplings (Pork and Cabbage, Curry Chicken, Shrimp and Chives, and Crunchy Vegetarian), a mixed green salad, an Asian noodle salad, veggie fried rice, miso soup, and drinks. We were a little nervous, as I noticed that they can sometimes close during rainy weather, but luckily, they pushed through the rain, which eventually tapered off! We ordered the Pork and Cabbage Dumplings (pan-fried and steamed; these had a more cilantro-like flavor to the filling) and the Crunchy Vegetarian (pan-fried; these were more flat and elongated; I actually really enjoyed these, as they were great with the Ginger Soy Vinaigrette; I first thought that there was some meat inside, but I'm thinking it's either tofu or soy protein?). It was interesting that the Pork and Cabbage had more of a stronger herb-y taste rather than the Crunchy Vegetarian. The Asian Noodle Salad didn't look like the picture on their menu; however, it was still simple and fresh, made with rice noodles, sliced carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, and crushed peanuts; much better dressed with the peanut sesame sauce! The Veggie Fried Rice was tasty, especially adding the Ginger Soy Vinaigrette to it! I also tried their Lemon Ginger Tea, which I appreciated it not being too sweet. The staff here are super friendly, welcoming, and honest! They serve it up around various places in the NoVA area, so just check their social media to locate where they're at for the week. I had the opportunity to try Mulan Dumpling at Dulles Corner during Food Truck Wednesday. The dumpling combo consisted of veggie fried rice, Asian noodle salad, and an assortment of their pan-fried dumplings. First, I tried the veggie fried rice which consisted of carrots, cabbage, and corn - pretty good. The Asian Noodle Salad with carrots, cilantro, and cucumbers topped with crushed peanuts is a refreshing salad that won't leave you bloated during the workday. Make sure you mix it well with the sauce! Lastly . . . the dumplings. What a satisfying lunch! Decently sized, nice flavors, and left feeling full. Yum! I had the pork & cabbage, shrimp & chives, and curry chicken. All are good but I really enjoyed the aroma of the curry and pork & cabbage combo paired with the ginger soy and peanut sauce. The Mulan Dumpling truck stopped by our office the other day, and upon exiting our office I decided impulsively to give it a try. I'm not a huge food truck fan, but I was really impressed! I ordered 12 dumplings - 6 shrimp & chive/6 pork & cabbage. The dumpling wrappers were amazingly thin (almost transparent) and while the edges were a little dry they were delicious! A few housemate dipping sauces are offered. The dumplings are definitely on the smaller/more delicate side, but I would go back again without hesitation. I think 12 dumplings would be enough for most people, but I regretted not getting their combo option. read more

I decided to try this food truck for a quick lunch and I was not disappointed! There were quite a few people in line, which I took as a really good sign. I ordered the six piece pork dumplings fried. The dumplings are about 3 inches long and come with a dipping sauce that I believe was ginger soy. Enough for a small lunch if you're not feeling particularly hungry. Next time, I'll probably try the combo lunch for a few more bucks. I only waited about ten minutes for a food and there were over ten people in line. The staff was very friendly as well. I LOVE their dumplings. They are all ORGANIC and super fresh. Their combo with 10 dumplings and 2 sides is more then enough for me and I also have leftovers for dinner. I had their lemon ginger green tea, it's to die for. I don't like ginger that much because is spicy but it was a perfect amount of ginger. I live in Tysons they don't come here too often :( but sometimes when I'm in Reston or Chantilly I try to find them and treat myself with some TRADITIONAL and delicious dumplings. read more

I really enjoy Mulan Dumplings. I am a big dumpling fan but not everyone can prepare them the way I like them. Mulan's dumplings were Awesome! Before I go into my review, I want to say something positive which is the service of the lady taking the order, she was very nice and personable. I bought 10 dumplings combo ($13) yesterday and the dumplings were decent, on smaller side but fresh and organic so basically okay value. The reason for my lower rating as if on dumplings alone, I might even give it four stars, but the sides were what I feel like a complete waste. The noodle salad was super bland, a little better if you add the sauce, otherwise, it was not good. It meant to be like a Vietnamese noodle salad (bun) that usually served with grilled meat except the noodles were cut up and mealy and wrong choice of noodles (bun hoi) for the purpose to really hold up as a side, I would suggest bun noodle instead of rice vermicelli so it doesn't feel mealy in the mouth. The cilantro and cucumber were fresh but overall, I would not call it a noodle salad as needs a little more to hold up as a side dish. The thing I was shocked about was the rice which was touted as vegetable fried rice. I don't know if it was an off day but rice were uncooked inside, and it had 3 kernels of corn (hardly constitute as veggies and nothing like in the pic in front of truck, bait and switch). I left the whole thing as it was truly inedible. I can't believe they actually sell that as separate side dish for $4-$5. Overall, I might get the dumplings as stand alone and not the combo if I crave for dumplings and happen to be near the truck, but stay away from the side dishes. They need to do better quality on these to at least match the pictures that they show. I wished I had taken a pic to show what was shown and what I got. Overall value is poor as in same food truck fest in South Riding, there is the Big Red Halal which for $8, you get wonderful grilled lamb and bigger portion of basmati rice, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and a nice salad that is good and almost 60% of the price. So have to step up the side dish and lower combo price in general as that rice left a poor taste in my mouth. I can only hope this was an off day but my advice is that if you don't have time to make rice properly cause time ran out or whatever, say it is sold out instead of trying to pass off something to ruin the brand name. It's not worth as food truck is all about words of mouth. Also the service in giving out the food, look at others in the same parking lot, they all give you napkins, fork and a bag or at least napkins and fork and not just the container and then I have to eat with my fingers. I am sure they may have napkins somewhere and forks somewhere but other trucks made sure we have everything we need. It's the little thing, food truck is small business that I love supporting but you have to do your part also. read more

Awesome food! Really fresh and very flavorful. My 3rd grade daughter had some of their seasonal mixed green salad and exclaimed it was the best salad she has ever had, and she is not a lover of salads! We had it with a maple ginger dressing (I think that was the name). Dumplings disappeared quick they were so good and the dipping sauces were so yummy we poured them over our fried rice too. The 1st time I tried this food truck, the dumplings were fresh and delicious (especially the shrimp + chives; although it doesn't taste like shrimp at all!). I figured I would buy some again as it was one of the options available on a day I couldn't decide what to have; and boy do I regret it. I loved the chive dumplings so much - I decided to get a bigger portion (9 or 10 pieces) which practically came out to $1 per dumpling. I even tipped an additional $1-2 dollars, and once I got back to the office and opened my order - the dumplings were completely dry, and black on the bottom and didn't even look completely cooked as most of the edges were still hard. Super disappointing, as they claim they 'always serve fresh'. I don't plan on buying from this truck again. A complete waste of $13. read more
