This is part of a small local chain or restaurants. that is know for its variety. There is metered street parking out front of this restaurant and within a reasonable walking distance. They have a decent sized out door patio out front and a modest dining area. inside. The inside was not the cleanest. The floor was sticky, dirty and had a lot of trash on it. The staff there did their job, nothing more, nothing less. This place has two counters to order one looks like a shake bar and the other is where the food is prepared. This restaurant has a little bit of everything. They have burgers, phillys, hotdogs and chicken sandwiches. Oh, and they have the largest selection of floats and milkshakes that I have seen. I ordered the bacon philly with a side of fries. It took about 8 minutes for them to prepare my food. It was made fresh. The food was really good. The fries were hot and well seasoned. They gave me a ton of fries. They loaded the bag up like they do at 5 Guys. My sandwich was delicious. The meat was fresh and it was packed with flavor. I was very happy with my meal. They would have easily gotten 5 stars if the place was cleaner and teh staff was more welcoming. read more

Washington, DC (Capitol Hill) - I was staying at the hotel across the street so this was a super convenient option for food and we popped by a couple of times. I was skeptical at first maybe because the restaurant has tinted windows so looked kinda closed, but boy was I wrong...and whaddya know, they're actually open from 10am-midnight most days! (Only Wed they close at 10pm.) We ordered a burger, chicken sandwiches, cheesesteak, and fries, and everything was fantastic and came out hot and fresh. The chicken sandwich is massive and superb value at $7.79! I had a spicy chicken sandwich "loaded" with the recommended toppings - the chicken is tender, flavorful, with a crispy flaky crust. The bacon cheese burger was excellent as well. I only tried a bite of the Philly cheesesteak but it was pretty decent. You can tell the fries are made from fresh-cut potatoes not frozen. There are a great variety of complimentary topping choices including sautéed mushroom & fried onions. They also offer kosher hot dogs, a few vegetarian options, and 75 flavors of shakes & malts, which I'm bummed not to have tried but it was too much on top of our already gluttonous meals. The inside was clean, with 2 ordering counter when it gets busy. The guys behind the counter were all hardworking, and one even brought our food to us on the first day when it was slow, which he didn't have to do. Was visiting DC and staying across the street so stopped in to Z burger for a quick dinner. I agree with previous reviews that it's on par with Five Guys. Food is made to order. I had a cheeseburger which I thought was good and quite filling. Ordered the onion rings which were gigantic and had a large amount of fry batter. I ended up only eating from the bag. Z Burger in the shadow of NASA is a pretty good, New York style everything-place. The pizza is good, not too greasy. The milkshakes were a bit thick and took a LONG time to make. Fries aren't the best. Limited drink selection otherwise. Still, the Philly Steak and Cheese was good. All that to say: the food is good, the prices not so much. You're captive because of the location it's kind of all there is in the area, so taking that with a grain of salt and into account, it's a solid bet for the neighborhood when you need a filling lunch. read more

I was in Washington DC on business & asked a local where to find great cheesesteak sandwichs. He said Z Burger had great cheesesteak, but their burgers & shakes were great as well. The closest Z Burger,500 New Jersey Ave NW, was a little far from where I was but I was set on finding & enjoying an east coast cheesesteak. I was told there might be a line so be patient. When I entered the a/c felt so refreshing. I changed my plan & decided to eat there. The wait was minimal which allowed me time to choose from the 4 cheesesteaks on the menu. I ordered The Original & got to choose from a large list of free sandwich toppings. Watched the chef cook it...Oh my! Not the baby Subway portions. Did not think I could eat it the whole thing but after my first bite I couldn't stop eating. As I ate, I glanced at the 40+ flavors of hand scooped shakes they make. Wow! Maybe tomorrow. Yes, it was so great that I caught a ride across town the next day as well & ordered the same. This time I had fries. My second day I couldn't eat the whole sandwich by it was cool enough to eat out on the patio w/ locals who work at a nearby hotel-they were funny. Another great experience. Took the other half back to the hotel fridge & ended up eating Z-Burger cheesesteak 3 days in a row & wish i could have made it 4 days, but I had to catch a plane. No way I will find this yumminess in CA. I don't know about the other Z-Burger locations but this one was a hit. The manager/owner person & the master chef were kind & helpful. Forget looking elsewhere. If you're close, bring the fam. Split the sandwiches & shakes so you can eat here 3-4 days a week. I would. Free a/c & great atmosphere. Visited Z burger based upon a recommendation and they were good. It was very bright and welcoming and the staff were extremely nice. I placed my order via UberEats and my food was still extremely warm after my short 5-10 minute walk back to my hotel in the cold. Overall the fries were the best part and very delicious my chicken Philly wasn't anything to brag about it was bad nor the best one I've had just average. It is nice to see that this neighborhood is starting to fill out a bit. Prior to moving to the area and working in this specific neighborhood, I have seen a lot of restaurants come and go. It's like the New Jersey Ave Corridor through here was becoming devoid of anything. Since I had moved here a little less than a year ago at this point, I have seen my fair share of shutterings. To see one space come back to life is a delight and hopefully will spark some interest for this area once again. With the completion of a nearby new hotel, and for that fact all the other hotels in the area, it was nice to see this space reused. For those of you that are unaware, this used to be the Billy Goat, where I spent a good amount of time at during my visits. The space inside really hasn't changed. All that made the Goat is still within, they just did a bit of a reconfigure to accommodate for eating. Where the food was prepared prior has been revamped to work better. That area was always a little weird, but with Z coming in, they made it work to the point that getting your burger or what not is a seamless endeavor. Where there was once a busy bar serving up libations you will now find a milkshake bar. It's not alcohol, but it is still a delight to go. I will say that the addition to sturdier stools and updated tables/chairs makes this place feel bright and useable. I'm sure when the weather turns warmer you will see people outside this place enjoying their meal. You can order your meal at the counter. Your basic 'build-your-own' burger establishment. I'm sure there are endless combinations to make your burger your way, but I got mine down. I ordered my burger, with a side of fries, and a milkshake. It took a minute or two to place my order because of how noisy it was in here. In the area where you place your order there is a television and sometimes that thing has the volume all the way up. Once they got that television under control I was able to hear the employee and make sure my order was correct. When you order your food, the kitchen staff go into an almost synchronization. They combine their efforts to make sure that your order is correct. Meanwhile at the milkshake bar the staff member there goes into a fury to make your milkshake. Out of everything experienced here, I have to say that the milkshake was the biggest disappointment (if that is really a thing). I ordered the chocolate cheesecake milkshake and was expecting to get some sense of cheesecake in this shake. All I got was pure chocolate. I mean, it was delicious, but not what I ordered. It feels like your order takes forever to be fulfilled, but that isn't a complaint either. Your food is made fresh when you order and you get to watch a show of the staff preparing your food. A bit pricey, but I feel it is worth it. I am extremely happy to have another option in the neighborhood for lunch and appreciate the fact that it is a short walk for me to get here. read more

If you don't like getting nickel and dimed to death then avoid this place. They charge a 6% "service and packaging fee", and that fee then ends up getting taxed at 10% along with the rest of your order. Taxes + Fees for a takeout order end up making up 16.5% of your order. read more

This place is ridiculous! I walked in 3 people working. I stood at the register for 20 mins before they even came to help AND only helped after a crowed walked in. No sorry for the wait, not even an acknowledgment that I was there even though I made eye contact with each of the employees. I wouldn't recommend this place just on service alone. Like you see a customer standing there say we're sorry we're a little backed up or something. Don't just act like I'm not there when you keep looking at me. Went to try this new place out on New Jersey Ave. Ordered a double burger and fries and was hit with an extra charge for "service and packaging". I asked the people at the register what the extra charge was for and they could not explain it except that it was standard policy to charge it. I told them I was taking my lunch to go and did not require any "service or packaging" and they said I could not avoid paying the extra fee. This company should charge people what they actually want for the food they are selling versus hitting people with a random fee at the pay screen for seemingly no reason. Did not make the purchase and will refuse to eat there as long as they continue this practice. read more
